It's me... I can't believe I get to start this!

I'm due 2nd Jan 2005... Actually AF is not due for 4 days(!!) but have done 3 tests and all positive. I am only 11 days pregnant.

It's a bit lonely here on my own, I hope there will be lots of you joining me soon, especially from 'ttc thread 6'.

Hi Ladies - Sorry about your friend Artyjoe.

Im 27.5 weeks, and measuring 40 weeks!! So you can imagine how large I am. Have another scan next Wed to check reduction in amniotic fluid in Twin 1's sac. I hate waiting for everything...

I have got to the stage now that I'm ready to go, unfortunately the babies are not, so they had better hang on in there! I know I have a maximum of 10 weeks now, as they said they will induce me at 37 weeks. I'm not sure why? Don't know if it routine here, or if it because of the size of my bump!

I'm getting through a large bottle of gaviscon a week now, can't wait till I can eat properly again.

Started parentcraft classes yesterday, which went well, looks like it will be a busy group. We actually had a laugh - which is not easy with people you don't know...

Feeling better today and spoke to my friends mum last night who told me the baby has come off support machine and is breathing for herself, which is AMAZING!I know it's still early days but it was nice to get some positive news and my baby boy has started to perk up too. It's unreal how much they pick up on your emotions whilst still inside. Obviously i understand how alot of you are wanting early births as the waiting gets tougher but having my friend go through this at 24+5weeks i am more than happy for my DS to stay exactly where he is right now!

Bakedbean · 07/10/2004 12:50

that's fantastic news fufmum! Really positive after being born so early. I'll keep everything crossed. I know what you mean, it's tempting fate wishing for an early birth....I'm happy for my little one to stay put as long as it wants really ...(well sort of!). But would rather not be two weeks overdue if I can help it!

fufmum · 07/10/2004 13:05

Thanks BB and i know i will probably change my mind when they time comes but i am kinda hoping to go over my due date only because the further away from christmas and new yr the better! I am due 16th so a couple of weeks over i think DS will be thanking me for when his birthdays are a little further away. Like i said probably talking rubbish and will be screaming for him to be here 1st Jan, if not before!

BatLady · 07/10/2004 14:24

Hello at last! I've got half way through writing about 5 times in the last few weeks then had to quickly close mumsnet as at work! So here's a massive catch-up...

I'm so sorry to hear about all the things that a few of you have been through with friends and not feeling well. Hope things are just going to get better for you from now on.

I found out my baby's a boy! And I'm so glad I found out because it really did get me and Dad-to-be all excited as I thought it would. Bit tired of everyone (non-pregnant people) says ing "oh didn't you want a surprise?" YES! I Just wanted it NOW!...so, looks like I too am still pretty emotional then....

It's fantastic being able to talk to and about our baby boy! We love the name Joseph (Joe really) but are keeping options open..(oh he's kicking away now so maybe he likes it, or maybe not..)

I'm feeling miles better than was thank goodness, although new feeling of having very large lead-filled belly has started in last couple of days and starting to get more awkward to move about already! I had big swollen ankles last week, but cut the elastic top off of all my socks and that's all now! I've attacked my bra in a similar way as a temporary reprieve til get new cheap ones (see later...)

I know what you all mean about counting days, I have been obsessing over plans for Christmas for ages, then realised yesterday that it's still 3 months away...can't wait til baby's birth-day. I'm doing the weeks-lef thing rather than weeks-gone too, starting with weeks left at work....

Have also been very excited about my new find...the Boots Additions catalogue! Really need a winter coat that'll go over my tum but didn't want to buy an expensive one that (in theory) will be too big after January...I've ordered one for £25 from Additions! Also totally given up on maternity pants (WHY don't they make them stretchy? Even Mothercare size 16-18 were too flippin small now I've got a bump, before I was size 14-16 in normal pants)- so I have bought 10 pairs of size 20-22 normal ones from Additions for £6, and 2 bras for £4 each! Wahooo! ...I'll let you know what they're like when they arrive....

Phew, huge message that one! Have a good day all of you!
xxx Batlady

BatLady · 07/10/2004 14:35

After all that I forgot to say - I have also had a cold which has not got past the starting stage for the last week, so looks like it will drag on for ages. I read somewhere that this is normal as mums immune systems are busy with baby. Actually I read somewhere else that our immune systems are actually lowered during pregnancy, and that morning sickness is caused by our bodies being very vulnerable to toxins in foods...who care really, it's horrid whatever the explanation...

fufmum · 07/10/2004 17:40

Hi Batlady glad all is well with you and your baby boy! Congratulations!I too found out i'm having a boy and totally agree with you about the surprise still being a surprise but NOW!! LOL

pollyanna · 07/10/2004 20:57

Hello everyone! Congratulations on your boys fufmum and batlady! I found out I'm having a girl! I am about 27.6 weeks smelly and I look about 40 weeks too, unfortunately I don't have the excuse of twins! I'm not expecting mine to come early - none of the others have, so I fully expect to still be here on the 14th Jan (I'm due on 1st Jan).

How is your spd Smelly? Mine seemed to get a bit better (as long as I don't walk anywhere or sit cross legged), but last week my back gave in instead. It has been agony. I went to the chiropractor so I'm hoping it will get better - I don't think I can put up with 12 more weeks of back pain.

Good tip for Additions Batlady - I definitely need a coat I can do up - I'm alternating between a long knitted cardigan and a jacket I can't do up. As for knickers, I'm just letting mine stretch (sadly, some of them have been around since, and during, my last pregnancy).

fufmum · 08/10/2004 12:58

Thanks Pollyanna congrats to you too! It's so nice to come on MN everyday and be able to talk babies as all my friends in London are baby-less and have little interest about the real baby talk as they have never been there. I try not to mention it all the time but it's pretty impossible as it's all i think about. Wait till they have kids then they will know!

BatLady · 08/10/2004 14:48

Yep I agree fufmum it's brilliant being able to chat and chat about babies! I'd always heard about hom mum's brains get taken over a bit by baby and it's so right! But in a really nice 'would rather think about baby than anything else' way. I'm conscious of not making it the main subject with my mates too, it's funny though as I've often found that other women actually start the conversation and are dying to chatter about babies...especially ones who've got children, seeing my bump makes them pretty broody I think.
My cold has sent me back into the very early night regime (I had about a week of not being too bad and staying up til...oh...10pm at least ha ha). So bed at 9 again at the moment.

What buggy is everyone buying? Trying to choose now, looking to spend about £200, the 3-wheeler ones seem very heavy at this price. Travel-systems seem more of a bargain as get car seat in with it. Have just printed off the info from mumsnet but wondered on your views too...

Anyone live in or anywhere near sevenoaks by the way? Have a great weekend everyone.

xxx

fufmum · 08/10/2004 16:46

Batlady sorry i live in London but on the buggy front i have bought mine already. I got the Graco travel system from toys'R' us, it was on speacial price at £199, i think now it's still only £219 and it has everything. Car seat and base, raincover, bag for nappies, huge basket underneath and can be folded so easily. Putting it back up i can do with only one hand!
I did look at the 3 wheeler equivalent but as you said it was HUGE and weighed a ton. A friend pointed out to me when i dragged her to toysRus with me that the 3 wheelers can be tipped easier too, not a good thing.(sorry to all who have one but she had a point!)
I got most of of my stuff from there actually as it beat the prices of everywhere else i looked. I got a cot bed for £99 and the mattress was £60. It still has that cotbed in there too for the same price! Good luck with choosing!

Wid · 08/10/2004 20:17

Hi everyone! Just popping in for my monthly visit, or so it seems. Will have to be quick, as DH is on his way back with Indian takeaway and video.

Sorry to hear Joe and Fufmum have been having a rough time - hope things are getting better. I'm 27+1 weeks and had A/N appt. today - everything OK and feeling really well. Still think this pregnancy is going too quickly, but this is probably because we want to move DS out of nursery, into another bedroom and re-model kitchen/dining room before Christmas: PANIC!

I still have M&P travel system, but also want a straightforward pram this time, but finding it difficult to find one that doesn't do 1001 other things - can anyone recommend one? Whoops - DH back from takeaway - must go. Will visit again soon. Take care

fufmum · 11/10/2004 14:31

Hi Ladies, well my friends baby girl had a hiccup at the weekend and she is back on the ventilator and has an infection which they are giving her anti-biotics for But she is still fighting and we are very positive about her getting better and coming home after xmas.
I am ok but still not really getting any bigger from the outside, i can't believe how quickly it's coming round and i still just look fat! It's not fair. I am big enough to have problems getting comfy in bed and trying to fasten shoes but as soon as i stand up..... it bloody dissappears. I am too fat for my normal clothes and too small for maternity. Ok moan over, i know i should be grateful but i'm not!

artyjoe · 11/10/2004 15:38

Hi Fufmum, sorry to hear about your friends baby, fingers crossed all will be well. Easy to say but I'd try and distance yourself from that situation wherever possible and try and keep yourself and bump well.

I am fortunate in that I finally started to look pregnant a few weeks ago but this is aided by my wearing very obvious maternity wear! I haven't been able to tie my own shoes for at least two weeks and you mentioned comfortable in bed...I shall have to look that word up in the dictionary as it means nothing to me right now

Baby turned oddly last night and I am sure now has her feet on my spine and head in my belly button and is trying to force her way through to say hi...REALLY unpleasant feeling but good to know she's amusing herself!

Batlady, I'm buying the Mamas & Papas travel system, £350 I'm afraid but it's the only one I like where you can have the baby facing you when it converts to a stroller, rather than away from you...I did a wish list in M&P and am very surprised to see that the cot, crib, bouncer and changing unit have already been bought by friends & family...it was mine and DP's birthdays so we suggested the list for birthdays and christmas as well as baby present, not really expecting much to go except booties...this has made the pram seem more affordable!

Hope everyone is having a good week - Joe

fufmum · 12/10/2004 12:14

Hi and thanks joe, i know what you mean about distancing myself but it's a bit tricky as i have known the mum of the baby since she was about 2yrs old and i used to babysit her! I am going home for my birthday this weekend too and will be visiting her family to give her a gift and see how things are. My last birthday as no ones mum how excited am i??!!
Hope the baby has move into a more comfy position for you joe! You said you can't do your shoe laces, well who does them? I am single so just aswell i can just about still do mine otherwise i would look ridiculous going out in the rain in my flip flops
I am counting down the weeks now till i finish work, i can't wait to have some chill out time. I try and keep weekends fairly busy so the time goes quicker and it is definately working. I read some of the threads where they are due in may and june and some of the things they discuss seem like a lifetime ago for me. Have a good day ladies!

artyjoe · 12/10/2004 15:54

Hi Fufmum

Fortunately my DP ties my shoe laces! I'm afraid I only wear Sketchers but have bought a pair of black slip on pumps so I can do them myself if DP's gone to work before I get up! It does have its advantages as I can't carry the hoover up or down the stairs so DP does the hoovering every evening (rotweiller malting!) and I can't wash the dishes as arms aren't long enough to stretch past belly...although I now cook to make up for this. Amazingly DP has also figured out how to use the washing machine and tumble drier..I'm just hoping he continues after baby is born

Baby is in a much better position today, has been quiet though, probably knackered herself out after her aerobics session yesterday.

Hope you have a fab birthday weekend, Librans make fab mums

fufmum · 13/10/2004 12:39

Is anyone else posting on here these days or is it just me and you joe, lol
Thanks for the birthday wishes and the thing you said about libran mums ahhhh
Well i had a dreadful nights sleep last night, back ache has entered my world! I woke for usual toilet trip about 6am and then stayed awake till about 7.30am couldnt believe it when i woke up again at 10.30am it felt like i had only just dropped off
Not feeling too bad atm but i am sure i will be shattered by the end of the day today. I think the baby is in training for a jackie chan film as he is doing stunts, kicks and backflips in there that are making my stomach look like something is about to explode outta there any minute

artyjoe · 13/10/2004 17:08

Hi Fufmum, I'm sure everyone will join in again soon...apparently 6 months is 'pregnancy bore' time so I imagine most are bored with talking about the pregnancy...if mine was uneventful I'd probably feel the same!

I'm a Libran too which is why I know we make the most well balanced mums

I'm not sleeping too bad at the moment but my dreams are still vivid, had a nightmare that my sister and her husband were talking all through our wedding vows and the vicar asked them to leave and there was a big fight with her shouting saying I'd ruined her day so she'd do the same for mine...woke up in a real sweat as am getting married next year and she definitely feels I wasn't there to support her marriage last month...bit too near plausible for comfort!! eek.

I do have to somehow stop gorging on chocolate and cakes though, it really is bordering on glutony and I can't seem to stop...great intentions in the morning and afternoon then by 6pm I'm stuffing my face...anyone know if you can do slimfast at this stage in the pregnancy?

Take care - Joe

BatLady · 14/10/2004 12:18

Hello there! No you're not alone in here fufmum and artyjoe, I read regularly even if i have to shoot off before writing...

I've had a stinker of a cold all week, been in bed until today, I'm turning into a right heavy-breather, especially when I'm eating as nose blocked and mouth full, breathing kind of misses out ha ha.

Have you noticed that pregnancy seems to be on the radio news daily at the moment(mostly things to worry about)? It's ridiculous, awareness is good I know, but they leave me feeling pretty stressed which isn't. Funny how it happens that the news always seems to be going on about whatever's on your mind...I guess I've developed super-sense when it comes to the "pregnancy" word!

Something quite funny happens tp me which is similar to your head-in-the-bellybutton feeling Artyjoe. Can't believe I'm going to type this but it will hopefully give a laugh. Basically sex-life is suffering a bit from last 5 months of nausea/tiredness etc. and as a result I end up dreaming about it more than doing it! Whenever I do dream it, I'm actually woken right up by boy-bump pushing upwards as hard as he can! It's hilarious, I imagine him saying "Oi! None of that! Look where it got you! You've got me now so no need to go for another!" Ha ha ha.

artyjoe · 14/10/2004 16:28

Hi Batlady

Sorry to hear you've not been well, bad enough to be pregnant without having a cold to top it off with!

Know what you mean about sex life suffering, although we seem back on track now. I've got a two night stay at a hilton at the end of October so I hope to keep it going at least until then Probably going to be TMI but my partners upper arms are getting much stronger in pregnancy so as not to touch bump when in the sack. Normally baby is very quiet until I lie still, but just after a healthy bout over the weekend DP was gently resting his belly on mine when baby decided to make her presence felt and started kicking violently...good job she did it after rather than before because it definitely spoiled the sexy mood!

I know what you mean about everything in the news and GMTV news hour might as well be called the Baby Hour as every god awful story regarding babies seems to be on every single morning... heartbreaking stuff but stuff I really don't want to even contemplate whilst pregnant.

Have topped 18 stones this week so have decided to join Lighterlife diet as soon as the baby is born, I just hope I'm not 20 stones by the time she appears...French Fancies and M&M's are going down a treat at the moment

Joe

BatLady · 14/10/2004 18:43

I DON'T BELIEVE IT - absolute horror story on evening news AGAIN. Sorry - don't read this if it upsets you, I just needed to share it to try and calm down and get it in perspective. Awful awful thing, poor lady lost baby at 5 months because she was commuting and had no seat and someone whacked her in the tummy - it's terrified me. I commute to London every day, I'm lucky as do normally get a seat as am on empty trains mostly, but am now feeling quite worried at the risk of bumping baby, either on a train or anywhere else. Also confused as my friend had previously really comforted me that baby is pretty well protected in there and can withstand a bump or 2 if one happens. Surely it would take a really big whack to damage baby wouldn't it? My friend said people she knew had actually fallen downstairs and things were still ok (obviously definitely want to avoid a fall of this size though)....it's amazing how quickly I can get really worried about possible "threats" to baby! Never felt so much responsibility in my life.

Angeliz · 14/10/2004 18:47

Batlady, someone posted a story like that a few weeks ago on here. It certainly made me think as i thought the same as you freind, it's very well protected.
I am even more careful now.
All you can do is look after yourself and try to be as careful as possible, don't worry +++

(BTW, i've just popped in from the due in Feb thread

artyjoe · 15/10/2004 09:41

Hi Batlady

Absolutely dreadful for the woman concerned but it's on the news because it is so very rare, if it was a common occurence it wouldn't be newsworthy. All you can do it protect yourself wherever possible and let everyone see that you are pregnant.

When I travel the tubes or trains I hold the front of my belly with one hand and my back with the other hand and breathe heavily and within normaly 15 seconds someone has offered me their seat. I was jostled in Tesco believe it or not last week at 12 noon at the sandwich bar, you'd think people had never eaten before...all I could do was link my hands together and hold them about 4 inches from my belly, and I did have to bounce several people off with my hands, but rather that than bump. I think since I've been feeling the baby I've realised how terribly fragile its home is...if my skin jumps when she kicks(and I'm very overweight) then there can't be that much between baby and the outside world.

For about six weeks now I won't go up or down stairs with anything in my hands, nothing at all. DP has to take hoover, ironing, dishes etc to the relevant floors for me as I'm terrified of a fall without both hands free...I've also started driving at 30 miles an hour in the car and won't walk the dog after dark.

With regards to feeling responsible...this is just the beginning...bring it on

BatLady · 15/10/2004 17:16

Hello thanks ever so much Arty and Angeliz, what you said was great, and dad-to-be also said same thing about things on the news being rare. Great ideas too, will remember those. Am already like a hawk watching anyone in front of me swinging bags about etc. Also big alert is those suitcase-on-wheels that are very trendy now. If you're behind someone, watch out as they get to the top of the escalator and put it down, then pause, then walk, not realising they've created a pile-up as people try and avoid tripping over their suitcase which they don't realise sticks out for 3 feet behing them..yep, that's my current commuter-hobby-horse, .
Know what you mean about driving cautiously too, although partly tha'ts cos kids are right at teh front of my brain and i keep expecting them to jump out into the road! I'm going to try and remember this caution when driving past schools etc in the future, cos I now notice lots of mums speeding past pavements full of kiddies.

So, anything nice lined up for the weekend? Nice in my book now mostly means doing nothing but reading or watching tv with feet up! Nasty is cleaning or cooking (which is my husband's current hobby horse...).

I can't wait to finish work. About 8 weeks left, hope to work last 2 at home as expecting to be so big I'll need my own tube train by that stage

"See" you Monday - take it easy all you soon-to-be-wonder-mums!
xx Batlady

artyjoe · 16/10/2004 13:01

I'm fortunate as I work for myself so I go part time the first week in November and will only work two days, and then I'm off from 1st December...I know just stopping work will be too much of a shock to my system which is why I'm doing part time instead.

I hate to say I've already got the Christmas books out and in anticipation for having more time I'm looking at home made mince pies and christmas cake and fancies, garlands etc...it seems being pregnant has made me think I can do all these things when 6 months ago I'd never have considered anything other than M&S...I hope it doesn't fall flat on its face!!

I'm desperate to have some Stilton on Christmas day...does anyone think with only 4 weeks to go that this may be a problem? Any ideas?

This weekend I'm going to watch DP build a childproof fence in our garden, should be a laugh as he has never even used a saw before, never mind the piece of equipment he's hired which looks very dangerous to me!!

ONLY 13 WEEKS LEFT TO GO!!!
