tori congrats!!

shiny goodness you are going through it at the moment aren't you! Hope everything is ok at the Echo!

fluff I laboured last time with just a tens machine then birthing pool ( gave birth on the bed though) I'm hoping to do the same again this time but keeping an open mind, I know each labour is different and I may really struggle and need a lot more help this time... I think as long as you are open minded you will be fine!

applecore0317 · 31/01/2015 11:11

Tori Congratulations! :)
Shiny glad to hear it was nothing serious, lots of rest for you I hope this weekend

Costa I saw the primark maternity bras and wondered if they would be any good, will go buy some then :)

haven't thought too much about the birth to be honest, still don't know if I will have to have a c section, at the moment the consultant thinks natural but it could change. I did say that I am not going to be a hero and if I really dont feel I can cope will look at pain relief.

Would be nice to have a water birth

Snooky17 · 31/01/2015 11:49

Grrr feeling like I have thrush but without the discharge or the itchiness, how is that even possible?
I've had gas and air and pethedine for all 3 of my labours, not a fan of water, didn't get on with a tens machine and the thought of an epidural freaks me out.
Thanks for tip about Primark bras , my chest is ridiculous tho so depends how big they go lol

Titsalinabumsquash · 31/01/2015 11:55

I had everything for DS1, 2 tanks of g&a which I managed to make myself very sick with, epidural.
Just a whiff of g&a with DS2 no time for anything else and naff all with DS3 because selfishly they haven't installed and g&a in the lifts at the hospital Wink
I hoping it will be super quick again once pessary is in so I'll have the g&a for pushing and be done with it.
I didn't like the epidural, I like to walk around and get away from everyone as I see fit. Grin

Well done Tori on your result! Can you relax a bit now? Smile

Seems like I can't do anything right as far as DH is concerned at the mo...anyone would think it was him who had hormones all over the place!

longestlurkerever · 31/01/2015 16:58

I was supposed to go to ikea today but was thwarted by a puncture. Sounds like I may have had a lucky escape. I had tens machine, pool and gas and air last time. Hoping for similar this time as it's all the birthing centre have except pethidine which I don't fancy. I think it really depends on the position of the baby though and I won't rule out a transfer to the labour ward fir sn epidural if I need it.

Great news about the dissertation tori. Well done!

I have discovered that dd is now old enough for the creche. Going to take her on wed after nursery so I can mooch around and look at nursery stuff on my own. First timers beware. This is my idea of a pretty good afternoon these days! May even manage a swedish meatball in peace!

Mslad · 31/01/2015 18:25

snooky (and anyone else) how was your experience of pethidine? They don't offer Gas & air here in Holland so it's either that or an epidural. I've read a lot of women hated pethidine......

leanne963 · 31/01/2015 18:40

Bazza if you find out any information about it let me know! I'm finishing my degree in Journalism in May and will try and do some freelance writing in the evenings so fingers crossed I can do the childminding too, I like the flexibility.

fluffeh I'm grateful I have the opportunity to be a sahm too! I even had a big conversation with my partner last night asking him if we can afford it and he seemed positive we could, but as a first timer we will just see what happens!

Oh shiny bless you that doesn't sound fun! Hope you are having a nice chilled day!!

Well done Tori my Diss is giving me anxiety lol so you must be so relieved to have it out of the way!!

Rachey There was no offence taken Smile

I want a water birth. I love water and I don't want to be on my back giving birth, I want to be on my knees and hopefully gravity might help a bit not at all ha!

CostaLotta · 31/01/2015 18:45

Had a water birth last time and hoping for home water birth this time. As soon as I got in the pool the relief was immense, and I'm not a water baby at all, never go in the bath, but loved the birth pool.

We are about to order a Chinese. How bad do you think the heartburn will be after crispy shredded chilli chicken and salt & pepper chips? I'm thinking bad, but worth it!!

Sunshinesaz86 · 31/01/2015 19:05

I'm thinking it'll be well worth it costa I do love a Chinese! Grin enjoy.

Fluffeh · 31/01/2015 20:33

As lovely as water births sound I don't think I'd be comfortable. I hate wearing swimwear because my thighs are just cellulite City and I avoid baths as I hate sitting in my own dirt so I dont think I'd relax in that setting. I'm hoping gas and air will be enough but will look into pethidine too. I was prescribed it when I was at my worst with my brain issues but I can't remeber much of that time as I was so sick i slept a lot.

longestlurkerever · 31/01/2015 20:53

Fluffeh not to worry you or anything but you can't give birth fully clothed! Having said that I wore a beach dress thing in the birthing pool. It was made of swimsuit material.

I did find the pool a huge relief. Not sure I would have managed on just gas and air without it. But pain isn't the only factor, I get that. I wanted the birthing centre for the privacy aspect. That felt really important to me.

Actually that's what I did tori. I actually gave birth on the bed.

TwinkleTee · 31/01/2015 21:05

Evening ladies!

Been feeling super uncomfortable today in my insides. Cant quite figure out what's going on, but I have pain like I'm really constipated, but I know that I am not! Have also ruled out Braxton Hicks due to not having the classic "rock hard belly". Also ruled out a water infection as it doesn't hurt to wee. Just having weird cramping in my general innards region.

Am trying to avoid using Dr Google as it will just increase my anxieties! Any words of wisdom from the Hive Mind?

leanne963 · 31/01/2015 21:16

twinkle I had something like this yesterday and put it down to trapped gas and the fact I ate lots of bread and gluten the night before. I had terrible cramps and couldn't stand straight upright! Not nice! Try getting on your hands and knees and rocking back and forth....usually makes me fart lol

CostaLotta · 31/01/2015 21:25

Twinkle have you had a busy day? I get general cramps feelings when I've been on the go all day. Obviously if you are worried I would phone your midwife or triage number.

Snooky17 · 31/01/2015 21:52

Twinkle I've had lots of pain today too mine was definately poo related, drank prune juice and orange juice tho which resulted in what I have read being described before as "arse rain" Blush,
Mslad for me pethedine made me just space out enough to relax and sleep a bit, I know lots of people don't like that feeling and it can make baby a bit sleepy if given too close to delivery

Threesoundslikealot · 31/01/2015 23:32

Twinkle, I keep getting awful trapped wind too which is really painful.

Shiney, how scary. I hope you're recovering from the shock.

Tori, brilliant on the dissertation!

I believe I can win on childcare costs as we paid £910 for three days at nursery with DD. We now pay £1300 per month for two of them in a nanny share four days a week. I'd definitely recommend looking into nanny shares to anyone who isn't sure about finding a nursery place.

26 weeks today here. A real bump now, as you can see!

May 2015 - thread 6 - third trimester, here we come!
Threesoundslikealot · 31/01/2015 23:38

Oh, and with my first labour I used a Tens and the birth pool for the first 75 hours of labor (had a very long painful latent labour with regular contractions and no sleep!) and then G&A in the pool for the final six hours, which was easily enough pain relief. I got out of the pool to deliver as I was in full pushing reflex but she wouldn't descend till I changed position. (I was at home or I wouldn't have been able to get in the pool so early.)

Second time round I used the pool again but owing to silly things only got to have paracetamol instead of G&A (paracetamol was entirely pointless you may not be surprised to hear). I did deliver in the pool that time though which was lovely.

In neither labour have I felt that I needed strong pain relief but I know I experienced less pain than others I know, and every labour is different too. I'm not sure how much planning is possible but thinking in advance about the things you would want to try before having an epidural must be useful.

Fluffeh · 01/02/2015 07:01

Lurker that's what worries me too. I really hate showing skin anywhere. I'm one of those people who covers up even in summer. With my section last time I couldn't tell whether I was covered or not so it wasn't too bad but I did hate the constant checking on bleeding/stitches afterwards.
I'm hoping to wear pj pants until someone forces them off me haha.
I know I'll need to remove them to deliver the baby but hopefully between examinations I can put them back on.
I'm open minded to think I may not want to keep putting them back on but if I'm alert at all I probably will do.
I am dreading the internals during labour. I had one to check if I was going to into labour around 32 weeks with dd and hated it. I think it was more uncomfortable because I couldn't relax at all. It's one of the reasons I want the MLU, the doctors said in the birth centre they would do an internal hourly to check in progressing whereas the MLU try not to bug you with exams unless you ask them to check or they have concerns.
I wish I wasn't such a self concious person about my body as I know I'd relax more about the birth.
Maybe being off my face on gas and air will help haha.
