How far along are you guys? I'm only 4 + 3 so I don't think tiredness has properly hit although saying that I'm asleep as soon has head hits pillow ! I still have to carry on with my other 3 tho so many after school clubs etc etc, I'm probably behind you all think I'm due 30th sep so more than likely October! Grin

Maths88 · 24/01/2015 18:43

I told my head of department and he was so amazing about it. I feel really lucky to have had very supportive responses from him and deputy head. It's really taken a weight off of my mind.

Feels strange that I've told these people and not my family but I'm waiting until my scan on Thursday evening before I tell them.

I'm really nervous about my booking appointment on Thursday because I am very overweight - bmi in the 40s! I know they're probably going to make me feel rubbish for it but I've had a really hard weight journey (losing and regaining 8 stone) over the past few years which whilst I'm not using it as an excuse has involved real damage to my mental health. I know they will need to tell me about the risks and I am well aware that I am not in peak baby having condition but I hope that they aren't too mean!

Maths88 · 24/01/2015 18:44

Sorry for the essay just needed to get that off my chest!

ditzzy · 24/01/2015 18:54

Early scan this morning was perfect - in fact even the sonographer kept saying the word perfect Grin Should be 7 + 3 and measuring at 7 +6, good fast heartbeat, and clearly only one there (and in a sensible place).

She did make me and DP laugh though. She was still halfway through the sentence 'don't worry if it takes a while to find it, as it's very small at the moment', and there was already a perfectly good little bean clearly visible on all the screens Grin

Hopefully that'll stop me worrying about every little twinge for the next few weeks! Ok, ok, I know reassurance scans only reassure for as long as the scan lasts, but at least I can dismiss the ectopic paranoia.

I've told far more people than DP realises.... I probably ought to let on to him at some point. He's only told one chap, and that's only because he knew I'd told the wife of the couple and she'd just let on that she hadn't told her DH yet (we were all out together for a couple of days in a row).

Welcome to all the new girlies, and sympathies to all those worrying tonight.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 24/01/2015 18:58

Maths - I have no idea what I weigh at the moment. I know it's too much though. I really don't want to know how much I weigh. I lost a lot of weight before my wedding and then I ran the London Marathon, I then put a bit back on and went to a slightly dark place I don't want to go to again. It's the thing I'm most worried about; being weighed Hmm

TerrysNo3 · 24/01/2015 19:01

sorry poco I didn't read back earlier, I'm really sorry things didn't work out for you. Thanks Thanks

maths I have a high bmi, just under 40, I was overweight with my first 2 and nothing was mentioned about my weight. A good friend of mine has 5 children was 'obese' during pregnancy too and said weight was never mentioned to her either. I'm really hoping they don't mention anything this time, like I know I'm fat, I know it's not good for you, I am going to try to lose weight during the pregnancy too, yes I know I'm at risk of gestational diabetes etc.
I think as long as you eat as healthy as you can during your pregnancy, do light exercise and don't do the 'eating for 2' thing, take your supplements etc, there's nothing else you can do. I got up to 15 St 4 with dd1 and they said I'd likely develop diabetes, had the GTT test but was fine. I was slightly lighter with dd2 but still asked to test, I refused as I had no reason to believe I had it and again I was absolutely fine. I think this time, because I'm at a much higher weight in early pregnancy I'll do the GTT test. Although I'm determined to get to term and be lighter than my current weight....

alien11 · 24/01/2015 19:16

Glad scan went well ditzzy
No idea how far along I am! How did you work it out -from your last period? I'm getting a Digi test tues/weds to give me a better idea.
Just getting ready for my sober night out..

NatalieBee · 24/01/2015 19:19

Girls my BMI was 30 at my booking in appointment and the healthy range is about 25 I think? Anyway she talked me through the increased risk of being in the over weight category and different things like I'll need BP done more regularly and things and she wasn't rude by any means but she wasn't lightly running over it she spent about 15mins going over it :) I have lost 15kgs last year and intend to keep on going while pottering through this pregnancy :)

Poco, so sorry ThanksEnvy

SpamAnderson · 24/01/2015 19:29

doctor you are perfectly within your rights to refuse to be weighed! If weight is a thing for you (it is for me too after an eating disorder as a teen and being obsessed about my weight ever since), refuse it, there is no harm is saying no to that at all. I have refused to be weighed on several occasions with drs and midwives etc. if you eat sensibly, youre not likely to gain a ridiculous amount of weight. They do worry during pregnancy that you can develop diabetes, they do a blood test for this ( a blood test is dine, you drink a measured amount of lucozade then another test an hour kater and then another another hour later) so that's something they could suggest if during pregnancy they feel your 'size' may make you more likely to develop it.

Sorry I can't remember the name of the person who commented about refusing testing... I had the first blood test with dd1, refused the one for down syndrome, had the GTT test and that was it with her. With dd2, I had none of those, there was no way I'd developed any of the things they test for in the first blood test, I didn't need to worry about downs syndrome. As frankly, I wouldn't want the stress of a high result and I wouldn't have any tests done that would risk the life of my unborn child. I refused the GTT second time too as I was fine, had no symptoms and first time they made me have repeated scans every 2 weeks as my daughter was going to be 'a whale baby' (Yep consultants words!), all that extra stress and worry.... She was 8lbs.... The way I see it, f* em, it's your body, your baby, you do what you feel is best.

Evening ladies, I'm in a real grumpy mood!! We booked a holiday to Dominican Republic before we found out I was pg, but yes while TTC, and i completely forgot about the risk of malaria Sad I've googled but not found any definitive answers and I'm worried Dr will tell us not to go Sad.

In other news, told my parents last night but it felt so odd because its so early and doesn't feel real!

SpamAnderson · 24/01/2015 19:42

grrr squiish. The Dominican Republic is beautiful, we went a few months before I fell with dd1. Is it safe to have inoculations when pregnant? How far will you be if you do go? As obviously there is a limit on how late you can fly too etc :/ one thing about Dominican, they have a condition know as the 'peurto plata splatters' they're food doesn't have the sweeteners that our does, just the natural sugars so people tend to end up with diarrhea.... That wouldn't be great during pregnancy so if you do go, avoid the tap water, fizzy drinks etc ;)

Snowflake15 · 24/01/2015 19:43

alien yes u work it out from first day of last period, there's loads of due date calculators online even on here! I'm using the ovia and baby bump apps and they are really interesting and tell you how far along you are and you can track your symptoms Smile

ditzzy · 24/01/2015 19:48

Alien - I calculated just from my last period, but not surprised it's come out a bit different as I was sure I'd ov'ed early! It says it on the print out the sonographer gave me too "gestational age from LMP" 7 + 3, "actual age" 7+ 6 Grin

squiish · 24/01/2015 19:55

Haha spam that made me laugh. We are booked for May so roughly 4.5 months gone, which is okay for flying its just the malaria and mosquitos I'm worried about Sad. I'm also wondering if Dr and MW would have differing views Hmm

sauvblanc21 · 24/01/2015 20:03

snowflake - is your baby bump app very american or have you found a UK version? Xx

MisBit1 · 24/01/2015 20:03

Good evening ladies. Just wanted to reassure Maths and Doctor after having the midwife visit for booking in this afternoon. I have high BMI (38 it would appear) and she wasn't judgmental or condescending at all. I had already filled in the weight on my booking form and she and DH used a tape measure to check my height. She had a little wheel to work out my BMI and then very gently said I would need to go with consultant led care. She explained what this involved and also offered a referral to slimming world if I would like it (you can have free membership and 12 sessions free) she didn't question my diet or try to force the subject at all. It was one of many, many things we went through. Doctor would you allow someone to weigh you if you didn't have to hear/see the reading?

MisBit1 · 24/01/2015 20:07

Tbh I was most annoyed to find out I'm not even 5ft tall Sad DH has been teasing me ever since she left...he's 6ft2.

Snowflake15 · 24/01/2015 20:30

sauv they're all quite Americanized unfortunately xx

FlyingSpud · 24/01/2015 20:31

Oh the apps are SO American.

There is a one born every minute one which is quite good.

butterflycats · 24/01/2015 20:32

squiish if you're staying in the resorts (punts Cana/puerto plata) and not going near the Haiti border I wouldn't worry. I'm a GP and probably shouldn't say this but didn't bother with antimalarials last time we went as last reported case was in 2005 I think. If you go on trip advisor forum for Dominican the locals confirm they have no concerns about malaria. Obviously it's a risk. The other thing is, some antimalarials are safe during pregnancy, so you could always take that one instead xxx

sauvblanc21 · 24/01/2015 20:51

Oh man, need iPhone for OBEM app (I've got Samsung!) - thanks for rec though spud, it does look like a goodie. I'll just have to stick to our wonderful thread & googling nhs stuff Smile xx

squiish · 24/01/2015 21:06

Thanks butterflycats really helpful. I think I'm reassured, but might take some persuading DP and my mum who is now on overdrive since I told her 24-hours ago Wink

Poppytime · 24/01/2015 21:40

Hello - just wanted to join this thread, looks like I am pregnant with my second, due 30th sept (so just in here!)

Hi alien! See you have found this already Grin

Treaclepie19 · 24/01/2015 22:53

I'm a bit concerned about weight too. I'm just over 30. Would I still need consultant led care?
