New thread for us all. Smile

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think you're not usually consultant-led unless you have BMI over 35. Mine was in the 40s for DD and DS and I had no problems, no digs from the medical staff etc.

Jackieharris · 25/01/2015 00:03

alien I may have the same dates as dc1 too. He won't be pleased if he ends up sharing a birthday!

spam I refused for the same reason as you with dc2. They were awful about it and said the doctors may refuse to treat me in labour because of it! Shock

My BMI is high too. I've lost more weight so will have to recheck but it's in the 30-32 region. I'll probably refuse to get weighed. I don't want a 'high risk' label as we are considering a home birth.

monkeymoonpig · 25/01/2015 00:08

My bmi is 31 (not bad as i was 35 6mths ago), ive was 35 is when they put you to consultant led. As im on medication for BP ive been put on 'high risk' but as its being controlled they're not particularly worried. Planning on going to MLU unless im induced again!

monkeymoonpig · 25/01/2015 00:09

Sorry - should say 'i was told 35 is when they put you to consultant led'

Jackieharris · 25/01/2015 01:32

I've just done the calculator and my bmi is 31 too.

I was doing exercise and losing weight but I'm finding I'm too tired now I'm pregnant. I went swimming today and was finding it very difficult. I gained too much with dd, which is what made me obese in the first place, and I don't want that to happen again.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 25/01/2015 06:00

I'm fine being weighed just not knowing number myself. If they weigh me at the appointment wouldn't they put it in my maternity notes. I can think of many other reasons why they might decide to decree me high-risk: age, asthma, mother suffered from pre-eclampsia, history of depression. I think my notes will SCREAM extra monitoring required even without the weight issue.

MyNameIsSuz · 25/01/2015 06:10

Doctor, how are you with kg? That's what they measure in and will put in your notes, meaningless to me as I'd have to look up what that was in stone. Hopefully you'll be the same!

DoctorDonnaNoble · 25/01/2015 07:24

Nope. It's not measurement specific. It's numbers in general. I get very obsessed. I ended up anaemic one time. When I know the number I have to get it smaller. I'm happy to follow the Slimming World eating plan but I really don't want to know what I weigh. I may phone the midwife service in the week and discuss it with them. Basically I'm a mess.

MyNameIsSuz · 25/01/2015 07:27

Argh, I've barely been sick so far but am spending this morning hunched over the loo, trying to make my 2yo go back to the living room while he peers at me, loudly declaring that mummy's coughing in the toilet... at least he's not alarmed I guess!

DoctorDonnaNoble · 25/01/2015 07:48

Just come home to a letter from maternity services it says they have received a request for an appointment to be made for me to be seen by a hospital clinician from Maternity Ante-Natal.
That means I'm already getting closer monitoring, yes? It's not a very informative letter, just says they will contact me soon to agree an appointment date and time. Think I'll have to call them tomorrow, as I won't be able to leave a lesson to sort this out! Why didn't they just give me an appointment?!

alien11 · 25/01/2015 07:48

Something doesn't feel right :/ i swear I had a smear of red on my tissue this morning. Can't stop using cheapie tests and they look fainter now. Arrrghhh I hate it.
Want to get a Digi today but hd is adamant to wait until Tuesday. I can see why but still scary! I have no symptoms but am very very bloated. I felt nauseous last time but very mildly and apparently with 2nd you are less likely to suffer with any.
It's hard when the only people that know are dh and mn. That's why I love mn. Who else could I randomly turn too about this? Thank you all x
mynameissuz you poor thing, how far are you? Bless your little one. I hope it eases soon

brickiemum2 · 25/01/2015 07:51

Well just say that you are aware that your weight is too high and that you are taking steps to deal with it but you decline to be weighed. I'm not sure why it would be in any way essential?
Hugs suz hope it passes quickly x

Maths88 · 25/01/2015 08:05

Thanks for all the information guys. I have actually lost 7lbs since getting pregnant. I think I feel so lucky to be pregnant that I daren't risk it by eating poorly - does that make sense? Like you Spam I am hoping not to weigh more at the end of the pregnancy than the start and from what I've read that seems reasonable at my weight.

I walk about 30 mins each way to the train station each day. I normally cycle it but I'm not the most confident cyclist and I live in a city full of cyclists so after a couple of near misses I've been walking it since finding out I was pregnant. It takes more time but makes me feel happier.

ShootTheMoon · 25/01/2015 08:16

Maths, I have a road bike but the advice now seems to be not to cycle at all in case you fall. I'm not sure how I feel about the advice (!) but I think if you are not a confident cyclist then it is definitely sensible not to cycle.

Antenatal yoga might be an option - it's great to build up the strength needed in labour Smile

Maths88 · 25/01/2015 08:21

Thanks Shoot. Would antenatal yoga be ok even if I've never done normal yoga? I've always seen yoga as something thin and flexible people do and I am neither!

DoctorDonnaNoble · 25/01/2015 08:46

I've got a box set of pregnancy exercise DVDs. As soon as I've sorted the living room I'm going to get started.

Lauramum23 · 25/01/2015 08:50

Can any pregnant lady follow slimming world then? My bmi is 25 (just) so I'm not slim and I don't need much more weight on quite frankly!

Another thing for you girls I was just scratching my tummy a minute ago and it occurred to me as I went higher I thought about my ribs, I thought oh yes I remember invasion of the rib cage !enjoy your ribs whilst they last before baby plonks it's bum in there lol Smile

Quinandthem · 25/01/2015 08:55

I did antenatal yoga with dd having never done it before.

The instructor was an nct women as well so it was all about babies, breathing and positions.

I really enjoyed and will do it again this time.

I met a group of 10 women there that I still meet up with now (didn't do nct classes just nhs).

MyNameIsSuz · 25/01/2015 08:55

I second antenatal yoga - no previous yoga experience here but it was great and definitely helped in labour - I gave birth in a variety of yoga positions!

Jackieharris · 25/01/2015 09:02

Tpregnancy exercise DVDs? I've never thought of that. Will have a look tomorrow.

I want to book into some kind of antenatal yoga/ aqua natal class. I want to keep up the weight loss/ getting fitter I was achieving before Xmas.

doctor why would a history of depression make you high risk? I thought that was more physical things.

SpamAnderson · 25/01/2015 09:15

It's terrible isn't it jackie I just got a couple of condescending little comments and that was it :/ I'm hoping I get the mw I had with dd1 again as she was fab. I'm going to refuse weighing this time as I want to use the midwife led unit. I've had normal births (dd1 they injected me with pethidine against my will as I passed out on g&a' dd2 was completely natural and so much nicer so I'd like to repeat that but in the more relaxing environment of mw led)
Hi poppy congrats!
I'm getting DH to clear out our 'office' (converted garage) so I can get to my cross trainer and exercise bike again. I think if I can do a bit on those as well as the amount of walking I do, it should help keep the weight down. I loved yoga when I was younger and used to do it on the wii all the time. I might have to get the wii fit board out again :)

Lauramum23 · 25/01/2015 09:15

Bit rubbish round here there is no specific antenatal classes so ill just go to regular aqua fits instead with all the grannies! And my regular yoga class ill have to tell her soon tho. There might be a pregnancy yoga one in a town nearby tho??

DoctorDonnaNoble · 25/01/2015 09:23

With regards depression just think they'll keep a closer eye. Anyway, I think my age has been enough to refer on as I've got a letter implying I'm seeing doctor as well. Given my medical history and my mum's I'm quite glad actually.

brickiemum2 · 25/01/2015 09:39

What age makes you consultant led? Having checked the spread sheet I'm one of the old farts here lol.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 25/01/2015 09:40

I'm just assuming that's what's going on because of the letter. I'm 36.
