Great news on the scans! I had mine today and all good apart from having a low anterior placenta but they said it may well move up as the pregnancy progresses so not to worry too much at this stage. I get scanned lots anyway due to my type 1 diabetes so hopefully it will sort itself out! So relieved baby is okay so concentrating on that!

Good luck to everyone else with their scans coming up! X

Glad lots of scans are going well! Congrats all! I still have a 3 week wait! sulk

I would be really grateful for some advice...

Had bits and bobs in terms of cramps/stretching/sharp pains over the weeks and happy that these are normal cramps.

However, last weekend I had awful backache which lasted all night and so bad I was convinced I had a kidney infection and was ready to ask DH to take me to A&E! By morning it had gone so assume I was being wimp/overreacting.

This Saturday just gone I woke up to stomach cramps which felt exactly like an extremely strong period pain. No bleeding at all this pregnancy. They haven't let up and now I'm at a point where it's been 4 days of literally continuous strong period type cramps. They are slightly better today I think but still non stop.

I had my temp taken on Monday and normal. Urine tested last week at appt. was normal. Phoned midwife who clearly thought I was just moaning and told me it was normal.

Is it normal!?!?!?!?

bubalou · 13/01/2015 19:14

Too much to comment on all / catch up on.

Yuk at sexual stuff in labour! Confused I prewarned DH before labour with DS that I would be best just left alone and to be there but not to talk too much or ask me things as I was doing hypnobirthing and needed to focus. Plus I'm like an animal that likes to be left alone when in pain.

He was good as gold and did great despite not being good in emergency / medical type situations.

In regards to first photos that somebody said about - I love my first photo taken with DS when he was less then a minute old. Shows that minute after he was born where all the pain has completely disappeared and your baby is there after all the wait and agony of ttc and pregnancy and labour.

Definitely something to capture.

I'd check with the antenatal clinic midwives just to be sure as that doesn't sound normal to me. Not to worry you though; I mean it hasn't been normal for me but then I didn't get BH or anything last time or this time so far. Better to be safe and get checked out. I know people get aches and pains but if they're that strong I would.

JennyOfOldstones · 13/01/2015 19:24

Ooh bubalou how was hypnobirthing? Did it help? Did you do a class or just buy a cd? I am willing to try anything that might help!

Tryingreallyhard84 · 13/01/2015 19:43

Evening all. Just back from my grandma funeral. Lovely to read the good news about scans and appointments. Grin I've got two weeks til mine so reading about others is making things pass more quickly and is just generally nice.

Hope everyone is feeling okay despite Braxton hicks, cramps, itchy boobs, etc. I'm just tired so will probably slink off to bed early before the joy of work tomorrow where I need to magically fix a problem that someone else has created at the 11th hour. Angry

bubalou · 13/01/2015 19:46

Hi jenny.

I loved it. Smile

I did the classes and would recommend them a lot as I don't think a cd would have been enough for me. I know it costs money but for me a worthwhile experience.

I will get my head bitten off by some people who like to say that labour will be what it is no matter what you do but for me personally I don't believe I would have had the labour I did without hypnobirthing. That said of course if your going to be breech, need a cesarean etc that will happen no matter what but I know a lot of Caesarian mums that used hypnobirthing and loved it.

I had a very good labour, was having contractions all day but didn't really notice and handled them well - waters broke about 6pm. Contractions progressed quickly and I gave birth within 4 hours at the local unit with no gas & air, no pain relief.

That's not a brag at all, I was planning on using pain relief if needed but labour progressed quickly and by the time I got to hospital his head was coming out.

I'm defo doing it again this time and have already started my breathing techniques etc.

bubalou Thanks for the hypnobirthhing review - so good to hear 'real life' success stories. We're definitely signing up for classes - I'm excited as I love that kind of stuff. And hubs is super open to it too which is helpful!

JennyOfOldstones · 13/01/2015 20:14

Wow that sounds amazing! I will definitely look into it! Thanks Smile

katbags · 13/01/2015 20:19

And yay for good scan news! Congrats ladies Smile

Really counting down to ours now on 28th. Particularly as we had a sneak peak last week after the trouble finding the HB - I was dying to take it all in but it was just a 30 second flash to check the heart was doing its job. Which is obviously all that matters really but I just wanted to see the bub doing its thing - could have watched it all afternoon!

bubalou · 13/01/2015 20:52

No worries.

I am always happy to be positive about it as it worked so well for me. Well worth it. Very relaxing. I used to enjoy doing the CDs in the bath and practicing my breathing etc.

Everybody is different but I think anything that helps you feel calmer and more confident going into what is the scariest thing in your life is well worth the time and effort.

Been doing a little research, I quite like idea of water birth, as I am a first timer I wondered if anyone on here had good/bad experiences with one. I know there's separate threads but I feel better asking on here as I obviously "know" you all better than going on a new thread to ask.

Newgirl33 · 13/01/2015 21:34

Has anyone signed up to an antenatal class yet? Not sure when is the best time to book myself on to one. In my area they are just held for one day (Saturdays) at the hospital.

bubalou · 13/01/2015 21:41

Hey Elizabeth.

I wanted to be in the water for some of my birth but due to time limits wasn't able to.

From what I believe though is that it 'can' prolong the labor sometimes but maybe this is just something that I've heard.

Not sure how accurate it is.

My NCT classes were really good, I'd recommend them. We learnt a lot. Mainly it's to meet people in your area who have babies the same age though, the importance of this shouldn't be underestimated!!

We also did the free ones at our hospital which were also good.

I'm still good friends with the others who we met through nct and we're all doing a joint 2nd bday for our little ones! DH goes out with the men too for drinks on the odd occasion, meets them for Saturday play dates Etc.

It's the luck of the draw whether you get on with the others though of course!

Nct also run free 'bumps and babies' events Sunbathing so you could go to those in your new area?

It depends when you move but I did the classes 5 weeks before my due date. That felt like the right time for me.

Jackiebrambles · 13/01/2015 22:51

Plus doing it that close meant that the other mums to be were finishing up work soon-ish so we could get together before the babies started arriving.

AnythingNotEverything · 13/01/2015 22:53

We got a lot out of NCT classes, but we had a great, open minded facilitator who didn't push natural, pain relief free births as the only option. We did them over two Saturdays with a midweek bf class. I'd recommend them, but I do think a lot depends on your facilitator. I've also made a great bunch of friends, and the mutual support was invaluable at times.

Sunbathing - could you do NCT in your new area or is it too far? They do post birth classes, or if you plan to bf the bf cafés are often a good place to meet people too.

I actually feel a little sad I won't have an NCT group this time around.
