Afternoon Junebugs!

Had my 16 week appointment today, at 16+6. Got to hear the heartbeat which I wasn’t expecting but was very nice :)

Next appointment not til 28 weeks so yonks away but got 2 scans before then, anomaly and then placenta position scan a week after that.

She’s also made me an appointment with the consultant midwife to discuss ELCS vs VBAC. I’m edging towards a section I think, but I suspect she’ll be pushing me for a VBAC!

Going back to monitor talk for a second. We have the Angel care with sensor pad which is great but I must admit the one thing me and DH talked about was how useful a video monitor would be. When we were researching we decided ‘well what’s the point of that? If you want to look at them just go in their room!’. But actually sometimes you don’t want to go in and disturb them but you need to know if they are really, properly awake and upset/needing you or if they are just moaning in their sleep/about to drop off/settle themselves…

I’ve never felt less like snogging DH than in labour! But at my NCT classes they talked about it, it raises your oxytocin levels which really helps labour along. That’s why sex can bring on labour too I think.

Hi all, so scan went well this morning! Scanner took a long time thoroughly measuring and checking everything, and also was really good at talking me through what she was doing and saying that everything looked good.

Also found out (very easy to spot on screen even if I hadn't been told!) I am now part of team... Blue!

Feeling on cloud nine, though with a new kick up the backside because of a renewed realisation this bump is going to be a BABY, and WE have to be in charge of it, and ideally not have my own life/house/work in totally chaos when he arrives!

Jackiebrambles · 13/01/2015 13:46

Oh yay another boy! Congrats Perpetual!
Glad to hear everything looked good.

jazzyjenbo · 13/01/2015 13:48

Jackie, you can get sensor pad monitors with video too. We've bought one for DD and will use her current one for baby who will be in with us for 6 months anyway. Glad you got to hear the heartbeat.

Congrats perpetual!

Jackiebrambles · 13/01/2015 14:04

Thanks Cuphat, I wonder if we can add a video thing to our additional Angel case monitor...hmmm

Pasbeau sorry you are suffering with braxton hicks - that sounds painful! I only got them from about 28 weeks last time I think.

Thelovecats · 13/01/2015 14:07

I'm loving all the 20 week scan news too- looking forward to our turn (but not for 2 1/2 weeks yet!)

Rosie888 · 13/01/2015 14:11

speedbird17 I'm in Taunton, my Auntie lives in Street, it is so lovely. Wouldn't live anywhere else :)

perpetual huge congrats on the blue news!

cuphat · 13/01/2015 14:15

I'm not sure about angelcare - we've got the Tommee Tippee sensor pad/video monitor.

Chookford · 13/01/2015 14:38

perpetual congrats on your baby boy! The boys are still taking the lead!

jackie congrats on hearing the heartbeat.

pas sorry to hear you are suffering with Brixton hicks, I didn't get them until right at the end with my dd but they were uncomfortable! Hope they ease up soon

htf2 · 13/01/2015 14:40

Hi all, which monitor was the one with the green light for every breath? that sounds handy to me.. I will be wide awake if I am trying to listen. Don't think I need video with a 2 bed flat and baby will be in our room for 6 months so I can see a light (baby's own room is tiny and doubles as our wardrobe poor thing :))
I'd say no question about it, wanting to crawl off into the wilderness to give birth is just nuts! I don't even want a birth centre that's not attached to the hospital (i'm a long way from deciding birth centre vs labour ward , it feels quite different here from Australia)

cuphat · 13/01/2015 14:45

The Tommee Tippee one flashes green with every movement/ breath. I'm not sure if the other one does. Very addictive to watch in the evening and great at night as if you wake you can just glance up and see it flashing which is reassuring.

Tranquilitybaby · 13/01/2015 14:59

Great news in the appts and ?glad your scan went well perpetual. Team Boy! Wink

I'm in trouble if I'm not allowed to put xxxx, I put them randomly on here, texts etc without even thinking! Oops.

I went to the lifestyle clinic at the hospital today due to my BMI. She was pleased to tell me I haven't gained any weight at all which was a big relief. Phew.

Hi all:) it's not just snogging...... Nipple tweaking and inner thigh stroking really helps to speed up contractions too!!!
I have read lots of Ina May stuff and while it's not everyone's cup of tea, especially free birthing, optimal fetal positioning is well worth exploring. This basically means getting baby round the right way as back to back labours are long and painful for most so I'll definitely be sitting the right way and side walking up the stairs, anything to avoid the labour that I had first time round!

Smugnogplease · 13/01/2015 16:04

pasbau I'm also getting BH, especially when active too, this is my fourth dc and I've never had them this early before (19+3)

Tranquilitybaby · 13/01/2015 16:07

No nipple tweaking had been proven to great help labour to start and progress well, as it realises oxytocin. Grin

Tranquilitybaby · 13/01/2015 16:07

Now not no!

Jackiebrambles · 13/01/2015 16:30

I may have done some nipple tweaking after I had my sweep when I was 40+3 Blush

I went into labour that night!

AnythingNotEverything · 13/01/2015 17:11

I might try catch that program, if only to convince myself further than I want a hospital birth! The only thing that got DD moving was breaking my waters ... nipple tweaking certainly didn't help here.

Does anyone else have (or had in previous pregnancies) Carpel Tunnel Syndrome? I had it towards the end last time, but it's started early. Not helped I expect by my return to work and therefore use of a mouse. Any hints or tips? I'm not sure it's bad enough to see a Physio yet but I don't know how bad it can get.

In other news, I've got really itchy boobs today. Since I stopped bf at Christmas they've been a bit mental.

Sorry to hear about the BH. I think they're often a sign you need to take it easier.

I'm feeling a bit stressed today :( feel guilty for being stressed as not good for baby either. Went to work in a right huff as I've been moved to a new team a week or so ago and I'm finding it a challenge learning the new processes + I've got exams coming up and an assessment came out last night + I have prep to do for a workshop tomorrow + my fiance was nagging me about doing the washing up when I get home.

On another note, since I've been pregnant I've generally had a BIG appetite. But for the last few days my appetite has been low. This was worrying me a bit as it seemed like a loss of a pregnancy symptom. However this afternoon my hunger has decided to come back! :)

PregnantAndEngaged · 13/01/2015 17:36

(by the way, I work and I'm at uni as well, in case you were wondering what I was going on about. Can't wait til uni finishes.. just want to concentrate on baby now!)

ChatEnOeuf · 13/01/2015 17:40

Not a fan of 'hun', but more than happy to accept a few 'xx's :)

I had BH from about 20w last time and I've already had a few this time (17w) - not painful, just a touch disconcerting.

Appt went well today, bonus scan and everything looking good. Cervical length is normal, which is a relief (I'm considered high risk for preterm labour). Consultant covered up baby's bottom when it was on screen so we're still blissfully ignorant :)

I certainly don't want to give birth in the wilderness! I'd like a nice hospital, as normally as possible, with a tertiary NICU on site, just in cases... Grin
