It all sounds positive then, so glad to hear it. But yes scanxiety I can understand! X

I've realised enjoyed baby clothes buying so far. Love all the little clothes.

Emz1989 · 12/01/2015 17:48

Congratulations all on scan news!! aconda glad you're being so positive, extra scans and close monitoring can only be a good thing! Very true that scans are so detailed and precise now, how interesting that there may be people unknowingly wandering around with more than 2 kidneys!!
I've had my 16 week mw appointment today (hard to believe we're all on the same bus - feeling very behind!!) the mw was great, very reassuring and we heard a lovely strong heartbeat of 137.
Went for a look at prams and travel systems in mothercare on the way home - now that's a whole minefield of info! How do you know where to start with buying one?! We feel totally baffled!

Congratulations Jazzy on your baby girl news, lovely.

Lovely to also hear today about everyone else's successful scans and midwife appointments.

I had a bit of a stressful day as I woke up feeling odd with really sore abdominal pains (had none so far this pregnancy and highly unusual for me). I then projectile vomited all over myself in the car when driving to work today :(. Didn't even have time to pull over. Didn't expect morning sickness to start at 19 weeks when I had escaped it so far.... Decided to ring midwife who told me to call GP. They got me in for an emergency appointment. Heard heartbeat and baby is fine. I also have no infection. They reckon I have just caught a stomach bug. Relieved but a bit stressful today. Shame as I had had a lovely weekend, ordered my pram, carry cot and car seat. Also started pregnancy yoga on Saturday which I loved. It was all going too well....ah well, we all have off days I guess. Feeling much better now actually. Just hoping the pains ease off soon.

Hope everyone is ok.

Hi everyone! I'm so out of the loop these days - great to hear more positive scan news.

I've got mine tomorrow morning and I'm bricking it - DP can't come, so close friend is kindly coming along (despite the fact she started TTC the same time as me and has had no luck yet - she's the kindest friend ever!) Heard heartbeat at (very late!) 16 week appointment on Fri, but am still nervous.

Hoping to find out which 'team' we're joining - didn't see anything which suggests our hospital won't tell so FX.

So impressed with how organised you all are buying things! I literally have nothing other than some organic, bio-degradable babywipes my eco friend gave me for Xmas. Partly practical as we've just moved and our flat is in utter chaos, so adding any new items until we're more organised would be madness.
But also, I'm still feeling very suspicious about buying things - for me it stills feels quite early -I was thinking to make a start around March? From chats with friends with babies I have some idea of what we might want/need and have been promised a couple of hand me downs... Is anyone else similarly under-stocked at this point? Or am I mad to not be getting started?

Jackiebrambles · 12/01/2015 18:54

Perpetual last time I didn't buy anything until way past our 20 week scan! I've bought nothing this time, mainly because we've got it all already!
Will need a new mattress for cots and a double buggy though - am currently researching that!

TiddlesUpATree · 12/01/2015 19:03

Hi ladies. Just had an email saying the asda baby event starts online on the 17th. Worth a look if you need anything. There's a 1/2 price baby video monitor. Xxx

AnythingNotEverything · 12/01/2015 19:09

Emz prams are potentially an expensive mistake! Have a really good think about what you plan to use the pram for. I know hat sounds like a stupid question, but will you be in and out of the car a lot? Doing the weekly shop? Dog waking or doing a pramercise class? Do you have a tiny boot? Need something that will convert to a double? And finally, what's your budget? (anything from £200-1000 is available on the high street).

Then post your requirements on the prams board on MN. Brilliant advice available there.

Aconda - sounds like something to keep an eye on rather than a big worry. Hope you can keep your anxiety in check. Easier said than done, I know.

ClearlyOpaque · 12/01/2015 19:15

Perpetual we have bought the sum total of nothing so far! We were given a baby gro for Xmas, but that's it. I don't feel like buying anything yet, so we're not. I'm doing research and deciding what big items I want but not going to buy anything for a while.

It helps we have a wedding to plan too, keeps my OH too busy to worry that we're not prepared....

impatienceisavirtue · 12/01/2015 19:15

tori can I ask - how obviously 'boy' did your private gender scan seem? Was it a could go either way/maybe it's swelling kind of thing or at the time did you look and think 'that's clearly a penis?'

We had one at 15+4 and it looked unmistakably boy and the sonographer was sure boy. We couldn't see between the legs on the 4d imaging but the black and white 2d imaging seemed so clear that it couldn't be wrong, but now I'm wondering? I have bought an awful lot of boy stuff ha ha...

Emz1989 · 12/01/2015 19:17

So useful anything, hadn't come across the pram boards! Thank you!

ClearlyOpaque · 12/01/2015 19:19

Also meant to ask: what do baby movements feel like??

I'm 18+6 and don't think I've felt anything, but wondering if I'm just not looking out for the right thing... I know have an anterior placenta, so I know it won't be as obvious or early as some others.

speedbird17 · 12/01/2015 19:25

I didn't feel any movements until after 21w with DD, 21w today and pretty sure over the weekend I have felt my first few flutters. Placenta is anterior this time though, so not too worried, but just to say it's perfectly normal to feel movement this late too :)

AnythingNotEverything · 12/01/2015 19:29

You're welcome Emz - I feel pram buying is on par with car buying ... You have to do your research and not just buy the one that comes in the colour you want!

Newgirl33 · 12/01/2015 20:35

Does anyone have any views on the angelcare monitors - the ones with a movement sensor which sounds if baby doesn't move after a set period of time?

Initially wasn't too concerned about getting a monitor which detects movement but colleague at work made it sound like a "must" for ultimate peace of mind.

Newgirl33 · 12/01/2015 20:37

I'm pleased to see lots of happy scan news both here and Facebook. My 20 week scan isn't until the end of January. Have bought a few neutral items but can't wait to find out if girl or boy! :)

bubalou · 12/01/2015 20:39

We had the angel care monitors
With DS and we still have them 6.5 years later.

We didn't use the sensory plate so I can't comment on that but the monitors still working after being used all these years is pretty impressive.

cuphat · 12/01/2015 20:47

Thanks.

Hopefully the duplex kidney won't be too much of an issue, aconda.

Newgirl, we use a Tommee Tippee sensor pad one for DD and it's great. I had read some bad reviews but I think those people must have had it on the wrong settings or something as we haven't had any issues. We're still using it now. It has given us a lot of peace of mind. We didn't get it straight away and we'd struggle to sleep as we'd wake wanting to listen out or look to check DD was still breathing (hard to detect sometimes!). The monitor flashes green every time there's a movement (ie they take a breath - quite addictive to watch) and an alarm goes off if it doesn't pick up movement for 20 seconds.

Jackiebrambles · 12/01/2015 20:49

We got the angelcare monitor for Ds. We used the movement sensor pad too until he was 6 months. It did make me feel more secure when he was in his own room. The only time the alarm went off was when he wriggled off it!!

cuphat · 12/01/2015 20:53

We still use the sensor pad at 19 months! DD moves all over the place in her cotbed but putting a board under the mattress (so the monitor's not just on the slats) has prevented any false alarms - a tip I read on the net somewhere.

Tryingreallyhard84 · 12/01/2015 21:06

Yay for scan news. jazzy love that cat print wallpaper (?) you have, as well as the clothes obviously.

Emz - as a first timer, I did exactly what anything suggested. Sat down, wrote a list (gotta love a good list) of the things I thought were important to me ie I'm tiny it needed to be light, small hands so good handles, car seat integration, easy fold, car boot dimensions, basket, etc etc. I didn't look at the mum's net boards as didn't know they existed but scoured the internet and magazines until I found something that ticked all my needs. Haven't bought it yet mind, but it helped me navigate a minefield in my mind. I also read reviews, allowing leeway for the silly people who thought the pram would raise their child for them and left negative reviews when it didn't. Grin

Trying to work out if bubbles in my tummy are baby or just digestion. Don't have an anterior placenta that I know of but I may just be being impatient.

impatienceisavirtue · 12/01/2015 21:32

Angelcare monitors - I didn't get one until ds3 was 16 months old. He developed a serious life threatening condition that is usually permanent, often fatal, and could have killed him in the night. It is the only reason I ever ever got a single night's sleep. I knew full well that if the monitor went off and it wasn't a false alarm then it was too late but it still was reassuring for some reason. It rarely went off as a false alarm when we did the board trick, and only when he wiggled to the other end of the cot entirely. Most definitely not a necessity for healthy babies though.

impatienceisavirtue · 12/01/2015 21:32

Thank you tori - it may just have been obvious to me as it's my fourth boy so by now I have a fair idea what I'm looking at, ha ha!
