Couldn't see a new thread so thought I'd make one. Congratulations to all the mummies so far. Looking forward to hearing lots more birth stories. Good luck for those still to go.

ikkle there is no way she can tell. I haven't found out with any of mine and everyone love's to tell me what they think I'm having. Don't recall a midwife telling me though but I'd be more intrigued than anything. Don't worry about it.

Eliza I find it so annoying when people tell me what they think it is, it's like why can't you just let me find out alone, I have looked at a load of old wives tales and they do all point to a boy but I'd rather have the surprise

sallygib · 09/01/2015 10:45

Ahhhh, so many babies or babies en route! How exciting. Congrats and good luck...thinking about you little .

Due date tomorrow...flitting between days of excitement of imminent arrival and doom thinking this baby will never arrive as no real signs so far.

MW a week ago kept commenting on how low the head was and how she doubted she'd see me at my 40+5 appointment. Hate that she got my hopes up, however she also sent me for a growth scanwhich revealed my baby is mahoosive!

Parents who live three hours away have booked themselves into local hotel from Sunday night for the foreseeable without asking. Not sure how I feel as grateful but they don't seem to understand that just because baby is due doesn't mean it will be here in the next 3/4 days. My mother seems to have a knack of saying all the wrong things and keeps implying I'm not doing things right as both my brother and I were 2 weeks early. Grrrr...

Congratulations to everyone on their new arrivals and sympathies to anyone who is overdue and still waiting. I don't post much but have loved hearing everyone's news and am learning such a lot from all the signs and birth stories. I'm currently 39+4 with my first and waiting for anything to happen - feel like I might be in for the long haul though!

CheekyBambino · 09/01/2015 13:18

Congratulations to everyone too! Am 38+1 and busy trying to finish unpacking the last few boxes from our move. I managed to batch cook some meals for the freezer yesterday so feeling a bit more prepared. :) v excited but a bit nervous re the birth. Has anyone thought about having a doula at the birth or for afterwards?

chiruri · 09/01/2015 14:00

Ooft, here goes! Before I start, remember that this is my first DC and I was 39+4.
I'd been getting back pain/cramps for a week now so when my Bishop Score was 1 yesterday morning I didn't feel particularly hopeful despite having worsening back pain last night. Went to bed at 11 feeling normal. Woke up at 3.30 with severe back pain and an urge to go to the toilet, so I ran through and passed what I thought was a huge amount of urine and some diarrhoea. Pain settled after a minute or so but I realised I was still leaking pinkish fluid and that what I thought was urine was actually my waters! Went back to bed and dozed for about half an hour before another very painful contraction in my back. Next one came after 15 mins, then a few at 6 minute intervals. At the point I woke up DH and we phoned the midwife unit, who suggested I come in to get checked out. We arrived at the unit at about 6am, and the contractions were coming thick and fast (only a few minutes between them). I was 6cm!! Went into the pool which helped hugely. Contractions were getting more intense and closer together until I needed to push around 7.30. Baby Alexandra entered the world at 7.52am, weighing 6lb2oz, with just the aid of some gas and air. Small internal 2nd degree tear which has been all stitched up. She's fed twice and filled her first nappy, so all we're waiting for is the doctors to check her over then we're free to go. It was a bit insane and it's not quite sunk in. A bit achey but generally feeling good.

Yay, just home. Less than 12 hours after first contraction.

Cherrypi · 09/01/2015 15:26

Congratulations Chiruri. What a lovely birth story and such a cutie.

Can do three buttons on my coat today instead of the usual two. Bump definitely dropped. 39+1

Congratulations - she's stunning! That's an amazing birth story too and exactly what I'm aiming for. :)

CilkieWallinsChristmasChimes · 09/01/2015 18:11

Haven't posted on this group before (long-time lurker) but congratulations to all those who have had their babies and best wishes for a safe delivery to everyone who's waiting. My first birth was very similar to yours Kate, but DC2 seemed to have other ideas. This time when my waters broke I expected an induction again and packed the hospital bag for a week, instead she was born less than 12 hours later in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 20 minutes after admission to hospital and having only just made it from triage to a labour room. At my 38 week appointment on Tuesday her head hadn't even been engaged...am tired but very grateful. I guess the only thing that babies guarantee is the unexpected!

It's a boy! Born this afternoon just after 4. Staying for one night observation but both doing fine. Born at 40+12!

Update further when home. Now sleep. X

CheekyBambino · 09/01/2015 21:31

Congratulations Calling! Hope you are able to get some rest and enjoy the newborn snuggles!

CheekyBambino · 09/01/2015 21:32

Thanks Madrigals. I've read that too so will look into it further.

Congratulations, Chiuri and Calling :)

It's been a few pages since it was mentioned, but we should definitely have a postnatal thread. :)

Glad ds2 is doing well, Madrigals! And that you are coping OK.

I'd say maybe move to a PN thread to keep new baby stuff mostly separate (and stay here if you want to cheer us on as well, like you said :) ) but then again maybe it'll encourage those of us still waiting if your early weeks aren't too much of a struggle. What does everyone else think?

Elizadoesdolittle · 10/01/2015 20:55

No reason why there can't be a post natal thread running alongside this one. I did have a look the other day to see if there was one set up yet and because I'm nosey but since I'm not at the post natal bit yet I didn't do anything about it.

I've been to 2 children's party's today, done the hokey cokey twice and won a prize for the best parent dancer. If that doesn't bring on labour I really don't know what will! Baby is being really active tonight after a few quite nights so I'm hoping it's gearing up for an entry into the world. I'll probably still be in this position tomorrow evening though.

40+8
