Well we have agreed (DH and I) that we wont go mad for presents for each other - just a stocking each and then we are going to buy a camcorder as a joint gift instead. I did wonder what to get the baby, as he/she wont be that aware but as its our first baby's first Christmas, we are maybe thinking about getting a really nice handmade Teddy bear (there is a shop near me that sells them) so that he/she has a keepsake of their first Christmas.

NatalieJane · 26/10/2006 12:39

See I am the other way, I don't tend to buy DS toys through out the year or anything so christmas and birthdays are big affairs, but aside from anything else, even if I wanted to spend a ridiculous amount on the baby this year, what can you buy for a two week old?!!! I don't want to do nothing, but there doesn't seem much point in doing a lot, especially when I know family and friends will all be buying him something. I said to DH I think we might ask people to get clothes for 3m+ (obviously only if they ask what we need/want!) and then we will make a start on buying some toys for when he is a bit older. There just doesn't seem like there is anything else to do.

Hello everyone

Congratualtions CattyB! Were really on our way now we have 3 November babies!

I had my Kidney scan today not great news im afraid my left kidney is fine working well but my right is slowley going down hill. The scanner just said that it's not emptying properly she couldn't tell me anything else so i don;t know what that means in the long run if they can cure it or if it will stop once LO is born?? Luckily im seeing the consultant tommorrow so not long to wait to find out. Apart from that we saw LO again head down and a nice strong heartbeat so that was nice.

As for xmas we will be buying LO some pressies but tiw ill be things like clothes and things it will need for when it's a little older. DS will get normal xmas pressies and DP and i get each other a few small gifts.

I had another baby dream last night it was not particually plesant i was strapped to a metal table in a blank white room kind of like you see in alien space ships on t.v! I couldn't move and LO was in one of those plastic boxes they put babies in in hospital but it was dark skinned which is funny since me and dp are not but it had loads of gingerish hair and he was huge! But i was worried sick as he was getting a rash worse and worse but i couldn't get off the damn table to get to him. Anyway i woke up in the end being sick with dp looking at me strangley because i had been screaming in my sleep!

I will not be making bulk meals as i am fortunate to live with my mum and my sister are always here so they will no doubt help out alot.

Hope your all ok and more babies are on there way!

Delia · 26/10/2006 12:52

As this is our first we have decided to leave it this year as it will already just had things brought for the birth, the family have been told they are welcome to get things if they want but because lo wont know or understand whats going on we wont be offended if nothing happens for it this year. We'll probably get a toy/rattle or something but that will be it.

Delia · 26/10/2006 12:56

Hi Charlee

Sorry to hear the scan showed up a problem, hopefully you'll get some answers tomorrow.

What a horrible dream, i'm not sleeping long enough for dreams now! only get an hour max in at a time before i'm awake and fidgiting! sounds like i'm better off not having the dreams!

Charleesunnysunsun · 26/10/2006 13:01

Having just had a quick scout on Google i have found out that kidney hydronephrosis (what it says in my report from the scanner) is basicly a blockage that can be caused by pregnancy and so therfore should clear up after LO is born and often results in the mother being induced as the longer the kidney is blocked the more likely long term damage will happen. So maybe my consultant will have some news about being induced tommorrow?

40Weeks · 26/10/2006 13:06

Sorry to hear about the kidney Charlee, but thank god for google - it sometimes helps to be able to do a bit of research before you get to the docs as they arent always as communicative as they could be. Will keep my fingers crossed for you tomorrow - you have just over three weeks to go dont you? But you could be meeting LO much sooner than you think!

NatalieJane · 26/10/2006 13:11

Charlee sorry about the results, it is the last thing you need right now Try not to build your hopes up about being induced early, I know it might be quite true, but Google does have a funny way of bringing up shite. I will keep my fingers crossed for you though, I know induction isn't everyones cup of tea, but I get the feeling you would welcome it at the moment!

Congratulations CattyB - good weight as well.

Charlee - sorry to hear that you're having trouble.
I spent the whole of yesterday in the maternity day assessment unit - largely waiting for blood test results. My BP has calmed down a little, but is still unpredictable - the community madwife has been told to visit me on Friday and I have to go back to the assessment unit next wednesday for more blood tests, more monitoring and so on. NHS cuts are really affecting the unit - I had one thin pillow to prop me up on a metal frame whilst I was being wired up to the trace machine (very uncomfortable)and we were taken to another room later which smelt really bad. Still the staff were friendly, and baby and I gave them a little mystery as well- baby did what it was supposed to do - with varying heartbeats (base line is around 130-135 - even the madwife thought it would be a boy on this)rising up to 160 as it tried to kick the monitors off and although I wasn't supposed to show any contractions - I had a series of very regular BH that raised eyebrows for over an hour... I was thinking - if this was labour - then I can handle it... but I didn't really notice them. We will see what happens next. For now I'm planning a waddle down to the local shop (only 5 mins a way) and another nap - I'm so tired at the moment. I'm getting to the point where I would just like to see baby and finally give him/her their name.

Good luck all

Dd is 2.5 - haven't bought her a christmas gift last two years and intend to go one more year before I get sucked into the madness!

My inlaws are big chrismas people, so as it is she gets a lot of new stuff in one day.

I've had a very definite back ache today - and had a light vein of blood in a small amount of mucous this morning. Things must be getting a little closer?

Dh not very impressed - we're going away for the weekend as a 'last hurrah' without the kids - and I've started gaily talking about how 'I bet the baby will come on holiday because I'll be relaxed and know that Dd is taken care of and you're nearby'.

Ummmm can anyone tell me how to start a new thread? I would like to know whether or not anyone has heard about using Evening Primrose Oil in pregnancy (late stages) and if its safe or not....
Sympathies to MyGirl BTW.....

Thanks MyGirl have done it now

fatbetty · 26/10/2006 15:57

Congratulations CattyB!

Feeling a bit frustrated today as I mentioned to DH that I needed more help from him - more like the proactive help rather than me nagging him constantly until he finally does whatever I've asked. I don't know why I bother asking him as he usually turns it around and feels like I accuse him of not doing anything at all (which isn't the case). Ugh!!!

Thinking about asking at my midwife appt next week if I can be induced as DH has been stuck in terrible traffic due to construction on the M25. Most nights it takes him over an hour and a half to get home - compared to 30 minutes. Getting a bit worried about going into labour and him not being able to get back. DS2 was born within 2 hours and worried that this one will be the same.

Regarding Christmas, thinking of not buying DS1 & DS2 gifts as they will get loads of presents from family - but feel horrible if I don't buy something. This must be Guilty Thursday for me! I feel guilty about everything!!

Charleesunnysunsun · 26/10/2006 16:03

Thanks for your kind words

Im not getting my hopes up about being induced it's the same consultant i had with ds and i literally had to beg him to be induced last time as i was in that much pain he's pretty laid back about that sort of thing and goes by the theory of '3 1/2 more weeks wont hurt you' which is fine as i realise induction can cause problems but when the pain causes me to cry my eyes out bending over the sink to do the dishes it kind of takes the piss a bit.

I'm having a tense day today my mother has been in a foul mood for a while now and it's begining to get on my nerves just a little. She expects us to keep the house pristine aswell as look after ds and cope with being heavily pregnant. She's classed as disabled as she's waiting a heart operation but insists on doing all the housework and taking on every job she can possibly find which would be ok if she didn;t then moan about feeling unwell afterwards. Its just begining to annoy me a little. I hope she snaps out of it soon.

staceym11 · 26/10/2006 17:08

hi everyone

CATTYB congratulations, when were you acctually due??

well tutoring went ok today, dd was as good as gold and didnt cause too much hassle. only had a few contractions which is better than every 10 mins if i have to have them at all! lol

am sitting in tears tho as have had another letter from tax credits, this time stating that they overpaid me in June 2005 and could they have their £118.88 back by the 29th nov?!?! i cant afford that!! how the hell can they expect me to pay back money they gave me over a year ago...if they'dv mentioned it at the time id have had the money to give but i havnt kept it for over a year in case they wanted it back, i wasnt even informed of the overpayment till just now! we'r already paying back the thousand and something pounds that they reckon they'v overpaid us as our income went up by £400!!!! arrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

as you can tell im so stressed and bawling my eyes out coz my hormones are all over the place, it doesnt help that dd is in bed so i dont have to stop crying for her sake so the tears just keep flowing, even tho i know its irrational and stupid, i just cant stand all this bullshit, wish tax credits were simple or i didtn get them at all as they feel like more hassle than they'r worth!

Hattie05 · 26/10/2006 17:15

Congratulations Catty!! Wonderful news.
I too am very envious of you .

Charlee - sounds like you're having a hard time you have my sympathies.

Fatbetty, if you had such a quick labour last time do you really want to risk having a slow induction this time round? The last thing i fancy is an induction. My dp is at least an hour away when he's at work and we just keep our fingers crossed i can hang on until he gets home!

As for xmas pressies for newborns- i will buy some essentials for newbaby and wrap them up, just so that her big sister can help her unwrap them and doesn't wonder why santa didn't come for the baby! I do have all of dd's baby toys in the loft and would be tempted to wrap some of them, but scared that dd1 may recognise them and ruin the whole santa surprise. D'you think thats likely? she is nearly four.

Hattie05 · 26/10/2006 17:18

sorry stacey, posts crossed. Poor you! Taxcredits are a nightmare and we had similar problems a couple of years back eventually we won a compromise of paying half the owed amount back ( think it was about 1000.)

Have you read up on this sort of situation? there have been some very helpful threads on here explaining how to win your case. At the end of the day it is just not fair that they can take a year to inform someone of the overpayment and then try and take it back or worse stop future payments which is what they did to us and we really needed the money back then.

Good luck!

Charleesunnysunsun · 26/10/2006 17:23

Stacey. i hate the bloody tax credits were currently paying back £3000 because they failed to send us a letter to sign and send back. They take the piss i hope you manage to get it sorted.

velcrobott · 26/10/2006 17:28

We too had problems with tax credit... you call them, give all the updated info, they send you back a form with half of it wrong... you call again, correct it and still comes out wong!
I know I owe them money and YET they think they owe us so they paid in 2 weeks agao... again.....!
I am just not spending that money but how UTTERLEY unefficient

Hattie, I agree with you that I'd rather not be induced. DS2 was induced in the end as he was over 2 weeks late and he was born very quickly. I have a feeling they wouldn't induce me as I'm sure lots of other people are in a similar position. Doesn't hurt to ask though.
