zampa he didn't mention any of those things! apart from pointing out where the stomach is....so not really sure!

bustherb I think your probably right but I think it's the blood tests that have made the difference. The sonographer said that I'd have to have alien blood for it to come back with a high risk based on my age and NT measurement alone. Trying to reassure myself that until recently this would have given me a much lower chance as I think they only started combining it with blood tests recently.

Will look on the antenatal tests section although me and DH are decided that we'll be having this baby regardless so he points out it's not really worth worrying about it any further. I know everyone has to make their own decision on this one and so I hope that everyone's results come back with a very low risk!

Kilicat · 10/01/2015 15:06

On a totally unrelated note...don't normally shop there but popped into Waitrose for something and they've got loads of really good half price offers on a wide range of stuff. Just got a medium size chicken for about £2.50. Also, if you get their loyalty card (free) then you are entitled to a free tea or coffee (choose from americano, cappuccino etc) in store every day (no need to buy anything and I think you can even just get takeaway). Pretty sure I'll become a regular there on maternity leave as there's free parking outside as well! Maybe the rest of the world already knows about this but I was quite excited to find this out. Hope they don't stop the offer anytime soon.

naty1 · 10/01/2015 15:47

The sonographer said themore weeks etc you are the higher the nt measurement will be. Thats why the dating bit is important

WantToGoingTo · 10/01/2015 16:09

kilicat you can also use the free tea/coffee thing in John Lewis Grin

broodylicious · 10/01/2015 16:13

Aaah yes waitrose and john Lewis cafés are made for maternity leave, kili! I spent hours there after having dd! Sometimes find the cake a bit stale though.

gluenotsoup · 10/01/2015 17:04

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I am 13 plus 6, and the sickness stopped from about 11 weeks, gradually. The thought of tea or coffee, even if it's free, still makes my stomach turn though! My boobs still have sharp, shabby pains though and I just look chunky rather than bumpy.

Three birthdays in one month is going to be expensive, and I think their different ages and abilities might make joint parties tricky. Hey ho, it's all fun though. Dd is the 29th, due the 18th, and dd 2 is the 9th, due the 28th, and this one is the 12th by scan, 16th by lmp, so I am hoping I can get them nicely spaced! Dh is on the 14th though, so his birthday might be a bit overshadowed...

Killicat, try not to worry about the odds. The nuchal and your age are both good, and it's only sounding high but isn't really. Does your hospital have a specialist screening midwife? I found them and ARC very good, and she will be able to reassure you and answer questions.

Quick question- how do you get your maternity exemption form? I haven't got one yet, and am still paying for prescription's, and getting a receipt. I think it just happened automatically last time .

ScaryMartian · 10/01/2015 17:29

Hi all, I've been so rubbish with keeping up with the thread, I hope you are all well.

I had my dating scan on thurs eve which went well. I've been put back to 11+4 which makes sense with my dates, it oddly feels though that the magical 12 weeks has been snatched out of my grasp, just when I was nearly there! Silly I know since the scan was ok.

Anyone else got a foetal heart monitor? I have one from being pg with DS. Can already hear the baby's heart beat which I wasn't expecting so early. I recognise the sound from DS, a bit like a train! It's hard not to listen every hour though!

I've really enjoyed looking at people's bump pictures, mine is def there but prob has a lot to do with slack abs rather than baby bump!

ScaryMartian · 10/01/2015 17:31

glue the mw gave me my exemption form to send off at my booking in. Maybe worth ringing yours?

WantToGoingTo · 10/01/2015 18:19

I haven't had an exemption form from my mw :( think I will ask GP as I am seeing GP on Tuesday.

On another note had anyone else got lumpy veins? I have some veins on back of my knee that have gone all lumpy and obvious Confused hoping it's nothing to worry about...

itsnotthatdeep · 10/01/2015 18:30

hi all been lurking since I started work on Wednesday I didnt fall asleep at 7 pm both nights for an hour its all so much to take in. Call centres are completely different to Hair SalonsWink

my dd had a sick bug on Thursday night so cue exorcist impressions til 4am and missing a day of training in my first week Sad

otherwise apart from arguing with oh re him attending my perinatal mh appt (I dont want him there) all has been good.

also does indigestion feel like your underwire it digging in your chest? cause I've removed my bra and thats what it feels like. and as im 14+5 could I be having braxton hicks

WantToGoingTo · 10/01/2015 18:33

deep my underwired felt like they were digging in so I switched to non wire and much better now :) think is to cage expands as everything gets pushed upwards.

Naturegirl82 · 10/01/2015 19:16

Maternity exemption forms can usually be picked up from your gps. Mw doesn't do them up here, we just get it from gp fill it in and hand back to receptionist.

Had a good day today. Feeling a lot less tired now which is good. Smile

smallgreenbanana · 10/01/2015 19:17

Gosh, I didn't at all just fall asleep for 3 hours this afternoon...

Does anyone else feel the uterus as a sort of hard lump when you try to bend over? It's an odd feeling.

Bustherb · 10/01/2015 19:17

My midwife handed the exemption form at booking in.

I've eaten a foot long subway today!! Blush Still stuffed now!xx

itsnotthatdeep · 10/01/2015 19:39

want it deffo isn't my bra been measured to make sure and I refuse to go wireless til im further goneSad the ladies are way too big for that unfortunatelyWink

SophieBarringtonWard · 10/01/2015 20:13

Hi all. My midwife gave me the exemption form at my booking in but I have to take it to the GP to get stamped. Haven't got around to it yet although I should as I have a dentist appointment coming up…

Been telling lots of people which has been exciting - lovely reactions even though it is DC3! We told the kids (age 6 and 3) tonight which was just the sweetest thing, they were ecstatic, jumping up & down, then went off to fetch various things that the baby can have - new born baby clothes that have ended up in their doll wardrobes etc. They want it to be a boy like DH

glue sounds a bit exhausting having all the birthdays in one month like that! Not to mention expensive. I feel overwhelmed enough at DC1 in June, DC3 in July (hopefully), DH in August, DC2 in September!

StoneBaby · 10/01/2015 20:26

Crakey, we'll need a new thread by tomorrow me think.

In bed, trying to relax and fx will have a good night sllep.

gluenotsoup · 10/01/2015 20:34

Thanks everyone , I will phone on Monday. I think it may be because I haven't seen the local midwife yet, all my appointment s so far have been at the hospital, so the first appointment with her will be at the 16 week appointment.

Sophie, my dd is also 6 and we haven't yet told her. We were thinking maybe of getting an appropriate book, and want to answer any questions she might ask in a fairly low key way as she is still very young and has been quite sheltered. How did you go about telling your dc, and have you got any tips ? Any one else with any advice on this too, all suggestions gratefully received! I am so nervous about telling her, you would think I was telling the queen, and I end up giggling and putting it off a bit longer.

GingerbreadHead · 10/01/2015 20:39

Hi all, I've heard about this Harmony scan around MN, could someone enlighten me what it is!? Blush Is it something you have to book and pay for yourself?
I have bought a few maternity clothes, but have returned most of the trousers so far! Just can't seem to find any I'm comfortable in! Might be living in dresses til July at this rate.......
Have been resisting the temptation to buy anything for baby, hasn't stopped me browsing in the newborn sections though! We really don't need anything new, expect maybe a couple of sleepsuits and vests. Most of the stuff from DD is unisex up until about 6 months, so will only really need to start shopping then. I'm excited to start sorting through all those tiny baby clothes again though!
broody glad it's not just me snapping at DD all the time! Also hoping that things improve in the second trimester. Poor little thing must wonder what on earth has happened to Mummy!! Just hoping it's not a taste of what it will be like with a toddler and newborn and being severely sleep deprived.......Hmm
welcome glue! At least having them all in July will give you a bit of time to save up for Christmas!!
We have quite lot of birthdays in our family around end of July/beg of August too so this baby can join in on the chaos too! Quite glad the DD been moved back a bit to mid July.

Anyone else feeling just ridiculously teary all the time still!?

luckythirteen · 10/01/2015 20:41

smallgreenbanana Yes, this! I can definitely feel it too. Also when something brushes against my middle, like leaning over a counter! It feels a little tender, but not in a painful way.

Fleurchamp · 10/01/2015 20:45

Hi ginger the harmony test is only available privately at the moment, something to do with only labs in the US doing it and it's not cheap. It's basically a more accurate screening test for downs, Edwards and Patau's syndrome.

Yes, I am teary. I cried reading the newspaper and I am pretty hard

naty1 · 10/01/2015 20:49

Re telling other DC. After embryo transferbut only about 4 day old embryo so before any implantation or symptoms DC1 said something about there being something in my tummy and put her hand on it. :)

Zampa · 10/01/2015 21:02

Ginger I had the Harmony test and it's worth its weight on gold. Its not cheap though (485 quid). Apart from the blood test results, I also got a very detailed scan which was 90% the same as the 20 week anomaly scan. I feel very reassured.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

SophieBarringtonWard · 10/01/2015 21:03

glue not sure if I have any tips really! It helps that two of her friends have recently had baby siblings, & she has been asking us to "start a baby because it takes 9 months so if you started it now it would be here for DC2's birthday" so we were able to frame it with that… I think if left to me I would have delayed telling the kids for a few more weeks, but DH thought we might as well tell them, & as more & more people know I didn't want them to find out through over-hearing etc. I think personally I would tell the kids the news, then be prepared in a low-key way to answer questions/read age appropriate books, but not to make a big deal of it IYKWIM? At the moment it's so abstract for them still, despite excitement etc, I anticipate more questions/anxieties as it gets closer and they can see my body physically change…

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 10/01/2015 21:11

Ginger I have been worried about my older DC too as I was very impatient with him before Christmas, no energy to play much or go out etc. although it has been a bit easier the last few weeks (partly due to holidays with lots of relatives to help!)
I have a couple of friends who have recently had number 2 and they all say toddler with newborn is much easier than pregnant with toddler (although still very hard work to start with!). Even with the sleep deprivation I think you tend to have a lot more energy and depending a bit on how the birth goes, just feel generally better yourself which makes it a lot easier to deal with whatever is thrown at you. That's what I'm holding on to anyway!

Hi glue, I haven't been given a maternity exemption form either, maybe because I didn't see the GP initially but went straight to midwives. Wasn't given one in my last pregnancy either though and I didn't ask as I didn't need one. I would think your GP's reception is the place to go though.

My family and DH are all summer birthdays apart from me, now both DCs too. It's nice in a way as the summer feels like one long party!
