broody I never had that. I only felt one kick during my entire pregnancy (which really took me by suprise as it actually hurt!). Dd1 had her back facing outwards the entire pregnancy so all I felt were her bum wiggles Smile My organs must have had a pummelling though!

supersupersupershock · 08/01/2015 09:04

Great bump pics. I will try and figure out how to put one up later.... once I get dressed

Scan this afternoon... going to be a long morning waiting!!! :)

Number3cometome · 08/01/2015 09:05

Morning ladies, scoffing Mcdonalds.

Terrible, but it's one of the only things that makes me feel less sick!

Lovely bump pics, will put mine up in a bit.

Nature - my DS was 9lb, my bump wasn't big, we have no idea where he was hiding!

Was much bigger with DD and showed from early on, she was 8lb 2oz born at 38 weeks.

Ladies discussing horror stories - I know it's not always nice to hear, but I had a horrific time with my DS. The reason I share my story isn't to scare people, but just to warm people that certain things can be very dangerous if you aren't aware of what the symptoms mean. I would not however ever go in to the real details as it's actually still very traumatic for me too and I find it upsetting.
HOWEVER - would I change it? Hell no, I have a beautiful, clever and amazing nearly 12 year old son.

My DD's birth (ELCS) was fantastic, I was relaxed and the whole experience was so chilled out.

Hence I'm not afraid to do it again Grin

All those who talk about sleepless nights - yes of course there will be, but does it bother you at the time? no because you nap when baby is sleeping and generally they only wake up to get some milk then go back to sleep.
I really didn't find the lack of sleep that difficult at all, so don't let that worry any of you Smile

One week until my scan - feeling impatient!!

TinyCaterpillar · 08/01/2015 09:09

Lovely bump pics! I've just had my scan; baby is looking good in there. Got some nice pics too. I've been pushed forward a day so 13 weeks today Smile

Naturegirl82 · 08/01/2015 09:13

number I think people do need to hear that things don't always go to plan and having a birthing plan is good but it is just that a plan. Definitely important for people to realise to take symptoms seriously as well, but it sounds like you share your story but in a good way. Some people actually don't have a bad experience but still scaremonger!

We have a positive birthing stories group in my area so that people get to hear about all different types of birth but without all the doom and gloom and horror.

I have zero motivation for work today but have so much to do Sad

Naturegirl82 · 08/01/2015 09:13

congrats tiny

Number3cometome · 08/01/2015 09:24

Tiny lovely news!

Naturegirl82 yes I totally agree.
It pisses me off actually when someone says how was your pregnancy blah blah and I say "I had eclampsia" and they say "oh I had that" (mistaking it for pre-eclampsia) and absolutely having no idea what they are talking about!

Thankfully most pre-eclampsia is monitored and doesn't get to a serious stage, eclampsia on the other hand is far past the serious stage.

I've even had a MW say to me "eclampsia? are you sure? don't you mean pre-eclampsia, eclampsia is very rare"

Err yes, I think I am absolutely sure about what happened!

as you can tell I am still wayyyy overly sensitive about it!

I'm off my soap box now haha

broodylicious · 08/01/2015 09:29

I agree that as second or third or fourth time mums we need to help point out signs that could be dangerous - I think you had eclampsia, number? So defo would be hoping that if one of us said "x is up or feeling like this today", you'd flag it as a potential warning sign. It's just the whole "agony for weeks/hours/days, awful delivery blah blah blah" thing that I don't think first time mummies who are v probably scared shitless already need to hear. Yes, they are aware it hurts but beyond that? Do they need to know it all? I personally don't think so. But anyway, that's my opinion.

broodylicious · 08/01/2015 09:31

Cross post numberSmile Did you get any signs of pre-eclampsia or just go straight to full on eclampsia? I'm not surprised you're sensitive about it, I defo would be!

Forgot to say congrats to tiny!!Smile

Number3cometome · 08/01/2015 09:35

broodylicious oh god yeah, totally agree.
Yeah it hurts, it's called labour, but actually I didn't think the labour pain was anywhere near as painful as having other operations I've had.

My friend is due next Friday, totally shitting it about the pain, I said if I can do it anyone can because I am a right drama queen with pain haha!

Actually labour is different because it isn't constant pain, so you always get that reprieve in between contractions.

First time Mums just remember, our body does not put us through what we cannot cope with Smile

It's a shame that you don't hear all the positive stories too actually, I had a friend (neighbour actually) who went in to labour at home, 45 mins later, no pain relief or gas and air baby was born in the back of a cab. She said she felt like it was strong period pains, nothing more.
She had DC2 a few months ago, same again.

She is 4ft 11, very very tiny frame (size 6 probably), no problem at all!

Infact, from my friends who have had babies, many more have lovely stories than long painful ones.

Number3cometome · 08/01/2015 09:43

broodylicious Unfortuanately straight to it.
Had a lovely pregnancy, felt great, no issues with blood pressure nothing.

In labour I didn't feel right - the word 'eclampsia' means 'bolt from the blue' in Latin, that's exactly what it was!

I had a very bad headache and loud buzzing noise in my ears, blood pressure very quickly went up. I wish I had of known what those symptoms meant and then perhaps I could have articulated myself a bit better but being my first I thought it was normal and I was coping with the actual labour pain.

Number3cometome · 08/01/2015 09:44

P.s I hope no one is worrying reading about that - I was the only mother in St Thomas's hospital to have had Eclampsia in labour in at least a year!
I became a mini celeb, everyone wanted to talk to me after that haha!

smallgreenbanana · 08/01/2015 09:55

Good news ladies - there is 1 x baby in there, all the bits in the right places. :) Awkward one who would not move for sonographer despite poking and jiggling. Takes after its father clearly! Grin

But no surprise, too big for nuchal test, as I suspected. Hmm So blood test in two weeks instead. Been put forward 2 days, so now 14+1. She did say that nuchal area looked small so some reassurance at least.

Hope everyone else has good scans today.

Number3cometome · 08/01/2015 09:58

smallgreenbanana Congrats!

Question on this - did they book your scan late or did an early scan show you less far along?

This worries me, by my dates I am 12+5 today, but by my last scan I am 11+5. My scan is next week.

How do they date anyway? If you have big babies, then surely you look further along?

BadIdeaBear · 08/01/2015 09:59

Clearly really rare and it must have been truly horrible number but thanks for sharing the symptoms. It's worth knowing so we can all be more aware of what those symptoms could mean. Information is power. But the 'it was agony for 72 hours' type of story has no place in a first time mum's preparation!

Number3cometome · 08/01/2015 10:02

BadIdeaBear
Absolutely! and I think it's bollocks anyway, because if it was agony, they would pass out!

Raines100 · 08/01/2015 10:06

Wow number I can't imagine how scary that must have been.

I was very lucky, and both my labours were textbook and very straightforward. First was 16 hours, 2nd was 6 hours. Pain was very manageable (I was really excited!) until about the last 45 mins or so, when I needed gas and air. My best friend was the same with her two babies, and I know of several other ladies that have had nice, straightforward births, too. For every horror story you hear, there's a positive one to offset it.

Raines100 · 08/01/2015 10:08

Oh, congrats smallgreenbanana. Still waiting for a scan date here...

11+2

Raines100 · 08/01/2015 10:29

Ooo correction! Post just arrived, and my scan is on Tues. Feeling nervous now.

NotPennysBoat · 08/01/2015 10:52

Ahh I am loving the bump pics! Mine looks more like a fat tummy than a pg bump, I checked my journal from my last pregnancy and my weight now was my weight at 30wks last time - ooops! Definitely started off about half a stone heavier though. Not thinking about it until well after the birth and then determined to get back to a healthier weight (Christmas seems a good target as I think someone else mentioned earlier).

Been meaning to ask you ladies something about my scan... I thought at this stage (12+4) that the uterus was just beginning to poke out from above the pubic bone, but my sonographer was having a really hard time taking measurements of baby because s/he was hiding behind my belly button! This seems really high up to me!! She didn't make any comment about it being odd, and I guess I should have asked at the time but I was just too excited/relieved to see a little squirmer! Is anyone 'in the know' about these things?

Overtiredbackagain · 08/01/2015 10:59

Lovely bump pictures ladies! Not brave enough to post mine Grin I just feel like I'm at that in-between stage where I just feel fat!!

I had two very straightforward labours with my two. DS was 12 hours, although had contractions 12 hours before then, had epidural which was amazing, but left me without the urge to push and had to be told by MW when to, although the crowning still made my eyes water!! Was home within 6 hours and spent the next 24 hours just staring at him.

DD was 3 hours from first twinge to being born and I just made it to the hospital in time. Just gas and air. I desperately wanted a home birth but after "issues" with MW, I decided against that option as I lost all faith in her, although I knew it probably wouldn't be her delivering, I didn't want to take the risk. Overnight stay though as she had a poo on the way out (DD, not MW!).

Worries me slightly now with DC3, as I live a lot further away from hospital now, in the middle of relatively nowhere. I am assuming baby will arrive faster??

I agree with others, yes its painful, but I have enjoyed labour both times, more so with my DD as I knew what to expect. The pain is bearable, you just keep focused on why you are experiencing this pain and the joy and love you will feel once your baby arrives and, honestly, the pain is gone once the baby is born. Although no CSection experience, so I can only give my opinion on vaginal birth.

naty1 · 08/01/2015 11:04

Number- when was the early scan?
Ass mw said they dont use before 8w for dating (though my dating of -2 is closer to accurate than my 13w of +4 days bigger its made up 6 days)
So if you were 12+5 today what will you be by scan next week?
Seems quite a few people outside the nt window.
Pip - i think it probably is unusual to go forward 4 days like i did from ivf. Dp is 6'1 and i have pcos.., also 1 embryo was 10cell day 3, though the chances of that being the 1 growing now are possibly unlikely as 8cells do better.
Wonder what 4 days ahead would make baby percentile wise.
Dc1 also still has pretty large head and apparently this early in pg 50% of baby is head (though i guess they only measure to bum anyway)
I wonder if barring xmas they usually aim for scans at 12w as think that what i had with DC1.
Now my 20w scan is at 19+3 ,by ivf dates, so not long waiting

Labour seems to vary completely, a bit like period pain from person to person. I think i was making up for having no MS.

Number3cometome · 08/01/2015 11:08

naty1 last scan was 7+6, by my dates I am 12+5 today (by the scan 11+5)

Will be 13+5 by my dates for the next scan.

Although I do have PCOS so ovulating late is a possibility.

Naturegirl82 · 08/01/2015 11:23

Penny I think if it is dc#1 then you are right in that the uterus is now only just starting to poke above pubic bone, but with dc#2+ everything is all ready stretched so it will move earlier. The reason I had an early scan was because my MW could feel my uterus and found a hb with the Doppler when I was only 10 weeks, so she thought I may be much further along. My uterus has definitely moved up given where the sonographer was scanning, the position of my bump and the fact that my belly button is all ready being pushed out Shock

Naturegirl82 · 08/01/2015 11:27

Number were you charting to see when you may have ovulated? Even without PCOS people can ovulate at different times to the standard 14 day assumption. I would probably think that the scan date may be right as at that stage they look at the development and can determine stage as well rather than just rely on the measurements. Unfortunately though I guess you won't know for sure until you have your next scan which is no help at all.

I've said before but the whole dating a pregnancy using lmp and scan is based on a lot of assumptions that just don't hold true. Not everyone ovulates at day 14 and not all babies grow at the same rate in the first 12 weeks despite what they try to tell us.
