Lol [fleurchamp] I am sure you look very fine, but I have to say its that look I am dreading with my Isabella Oliver skirt.

Wow, I got through work today for the first time without falling asleep. Please please please let this feeling stay for the rest of the pregnancy - wishful thinking! Hmm

JoY007 · 07/01/2015 16:58

misseskimo you only pay for the NCT classes, just spoke to my mw about it.

WantToGoingTo · 07/01/2015 17:12

miss there is a price schedule on nct website but it's hard to find. If you are outside London it is £180 for antenatal (18hrs) and £75 for postnatal (10hrs). If London suburbs think it is £190 and £210 if in London.

Littledragon13 · 07/01/2015 17:17

Miss are NHS classes available in certain areas only?

WantToGoingTo · 07/01/2015 17:26

Haha fleur I have the exact same problem! My stomach just seems to expand as the day goes on Hmm

Bustherb · 07/01/2015 17:30

Is anyone else experiencing itchy bumps? I haven't really got a bump but it's itchy now and again, could this be stretching?xx

247babyonthebrain · 07/01/2015 17:44

Scan went well today - got a bit emotional! Feeling more real now! Planning on booking NCT and maternally fit classes now that everything's ok. Dated as 12 weeks which is what I thought. Due date still 22nd July!

I was in the antenatal clinic for three hours... yawn. However, all looks fine and I have been bumped forward a week so now 13+6.

I noticed on the way home that I'd lost the one photo I'd been given and burst into tears as I wouldn't be able to show my OH. Fortunately, when I went back to see if I'd dropped it, the lovely midwife had found it and put out with my notes. Phew!

Fleurchamp · 07/01/2015 17:57

Yes bust I am itching more around my sides than the front of my "bump". Am slathering on bio oil which helps.

I have such dry skin at the moment.

Bustherb · 07/01/2015 18:07

Yeah that's were mine is, more on the sides than the actual bump. My sister said 'oh stretching skin - stretch marks' Hmm I've been putting bio oil on too but for some reason I can't stand the smell of it xxx

broodylicious · 07/01/2015 18:18

Aveeno is great for dry skin or the mum to be cream by boots if you like something with a bit of scent to it. I couldn't get on with bio oil either so had to investigate other options!

NCT classes are quite pricey but we found them invaluable - it helped dh understand what was happening, how he could help in labour (you learn about what pain relief you can have so you can form an idea of what you would prefer) and what to expect during the birth. For me, it was a great way of meeting eight other couples who were going through the same and it provided a fantastic lifeline/support network/friendship when our babies were born. DH's friend said he thought NCT was just an expensive way of making new friends but he is a grumpy sod at the best of times WinkGrin

BadIdeaBear · 07/01/2015 18:24

yeah bust I'm a little itchy at the bottom of my mini bump. Bit odd and not glamorous to go in for a scratch but no worse than feeling like a sausage in a skin - lol fleur, nice expression!

Told my Dean today, (my boss's boss) so it's all really on now! A call for expressions of interest for my cover might go out as early as next week. I'm already aware that there's one person who will go for it too so it's a relief to know that it should be able to be an internal thing. Calming.

Were they running late zampa - why we you there three hours?! Sounds v dull.

Bustherb · 07/01/2015 18:32

Thanks broody, might try that x

Naturegirl82 · 07/01/2015 18:55

little I've always thought nhs classes are available everywhere. Some people opt for nct as it goes into more depth, and has smaller class sizes so you get to know the other couples better. I have heard that they push natural births and breastfeeding and some people don't feel they cover cs and formula feeding well enough. But I also understand it depends on the class tutor and I've heard similar about nhs classes as well.

Bustherb · 07/01/2015 19:14

Forgot to say before. My niece let me practice changing her nappy today. Never done nappy changes before so it was great to start early. Bless her she was passing me the wipes... Wink Xx

broodylicious · 07/01/2015 19:17

We weren't offered nhs classes here (we are in a big city, so I'd assumed someone would have mentioned it!) Our NCT class did cover c sections and all the different drugs that are available locally (not all hospitals offer the same drugs!) but yes, they do probably talk about more natural options. There was a special breastfeeding session which was run by a breastfeeding counsellor, rather than our normal tutor, and to be honest she totally put me off because she was so frank about how tough it can be! I then went on to breastfeed until dd was 2Smile I think with everything pg and parenting related, you have to have an open mind and then make a decision based on all the info you have. We already had an inkling we would be hippy stylee folk in child raising and probably NCT classes opened our eyes to that and made us realise it was ok!

BadIdeaBear · 07/01/2015 19:19

hehe bust I had the opportunity to practise in November with my new nephew and I chickened out... wish I hadn't now!

nature and little we don't have NHS classes offered here in York anymore (the way mw talked about it it felt like it was a fairly recent change) - so I think some cuts may be being made around the country...

Naturegirl82 · 07/01/2015 19:38

It suprises me that antenatal classes aren't offered everywhere (although with the cuts anything can go). What happens if people can't afford nct? Do they just get no advice at all?

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 19:41

Feeling extra nauseous this evening. I thought i was going to be sick about an hour ago. Nausea seems to be getting worse? Not been physically sick since Sunday,

broodylicious · 07/01/2015 19:42

Exactly what I said at the time nature! You'd then be reliant on the advice of other women, most of whom delight in telling you how bloody dreadful it all is, how the local hospital treated them appallingly and generally how they'd never do it again! What is it about women who want to frighten their sisterhood at such a wonderful time of their lives?!

Naturegirl82 · 07/01/2015 19:56

I know broody really not sure why people feel the need to scaremonger. I'm always keen to share my positive story Grin and it was positive even though dd1 ended up in nicu.

Bustherb · 07/01/2015 19:57

Ha ha bad, I was lucky that my niece is 18 months so will be very different when I'm doing my own new born baby. She was so good though and gave me a little cuddle after.

My midwife hasn't mentioned anything about classes except for a free exercise class run at the local leisure centre.

My hubby has had majority of his office going on about sleepless nights for months and months, really winds me up. Not every baby is the same and I know it will be difficult but If these people hated it that much (the way they go on about it) then why did they go onto having more than 1 child AngryAngry. X

broodylicious · 07/01/2015 20:07

Yes bust, absolutely!! It is hard work - behind with something called labour, kind of a giveaway! - but honestly, when you look at your baby (now mine is a toddler), you just forget all the stuff that's been tough and feel such immense sense of pride and achievement even though you'll have spent hours beforehand thinking how shit you are at this new job!
I had a great positive birth too nature and share it loudly whenever I hear those scaremongerers at workSmile

broodylicious · 07/01/2015 20:08

*begins, not behind!

StoneBaby · 07/01/2015 20:14

broody well said. Yes it is hard but when my DS hugs me and tells me he loves me (and now he adds the baby) I melt and remember all the joy and white hair he gave me for the last 5 years.

Great news on the scans today.

My bump skin gets itchy when dry so I already use a 'stretch mark cream'. It worked with DS so I'm fx it'll eork with this one too.
