Pip I think you can as the harmony is paid for privately. I think some people opt for the harmony over an amnio if they are concerned about their NT results.

Number not such a big gap between mine! Haha!

I'm not bothering with the hypnobirthing classes this time as I know the theory, and I have the book to read and the CDs to listen to. I was thinking of doing the nct class for second babies but they run them very sporadically and the only one advertised in my area is for April/May babies and I can't do the dates as they are during the day.

Just feels weird that it is so different second time round.

SophieBarringtonWard · 07/01/2015 12:51

pip no she didn't. She actually declined the screening but they did it anyway & she ended up seeing the result in her notes when she was 30 something weeks.

You can pay for the harmony screening any time you want I think! It's not offered on the NHS although if your results are high risk (1:250 or below I think) you will be offered an amnio.

I do think it's funny how hung up we get on the downs screening - there are so many conditions (rare conditions!) that just can't be screened for - my cousin has one of those - & of course birth injuries like cerebral palsy can't be predicted. It's such a leap of faith & giving up of control having a baby. IMO.

Bustherb · 07/01/2015 12:57

Wow that's good getting the results straight away Sophie. The man said to me yesterday that I will get a phone call if it's high and a letter in the post within a week, if it's low it can take 4 weeks. I do live in Wales though, seem to be 10 years behind here Hmm xx

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 13:01

SophieBarringtonWard I absolutely agree with you Sophie, there are so many things that are not tested for and we do get hung up on Downs.

My M/W said at my hospital they will only test if the risk is less than 1/150

I hadn't had a blood test before, DC1 was St Thomas London (2003) and DC2 was Kings College (2007) the bloods testing is all new to me!

Littledragon13 · 07/01/2015 13:02

sophie I said exactly the same thing re downs screening and other conditions.

I should've had my NT results backs back now but my blood wasn't posted on time so I had to go back and give more bloods yesterday - this was the last day it could be taken so I hope they send it off on time. They haven said they will give me a call to go through the results regardless of the risk to make up for their mistake.

The measurement given at my scan was 2.1 which I thought seemed pretty high but they assured me that it isn't. If the results come back as high risk, we have decided not to have an amnio. Has anyone else decided this?

Zampa · 07/01/2015 13:03

Re. Harmony, it isn't a diagnostic test so if you have a high risk result you would still need an amnio or CVS to confirm.

SophieBarringtonWard · 07/01/2015 13:06

Littledragon my NT measurement was 2.1mm, my results came back at 1:4,600 (I'm 31 fwiw).

JoY007 · 07/01/2015 13:09

Hi there! Hope everyone is feeling ok today and generally. I think my nausea and battery tasting mouth is wearing off whoop whoop! I finally had my first coffee in 13 weeks and dos not feel sick Grin

Back in gym but taking it easy. Clothes don't fit me anymore, the tummy area is the problem. It's now urgent that I buy new clothes. Feeling so much more energetic and positive compared to the past weeks, so might take advantage of that and go shopping over the weekend.

Anyone finding that tummy seems to grow every day Shock

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 13:15

JoY007 Yes, but as someone said earlier, it is defo worse at night.
Some of my belly button is starting to pop out now, it's also very hard like a hernia.

I feel extra nauseous today, haven't been sick since Sunday, but just feel yuck all day. Hoping this is a good sign!

Went to gym Monday, didn't go yesterday and dreading the thought of going today!

11+4

Naturegirl82 · 07/01/2015 13:28

Joy have a look on asos as they have a sale on at the minute and there is a lot of maternity wear on there. I was always disappointed trying to find maternity wear anywhere other than online.

Zampa I think some people use the harmony first to try and remove the need for the amino. The harmony test is different to the NT measurement and bloods so may come out with a much lower risk, which is why some people opt for this before the amnio if they can afford it

Number glad I'm not the only one with a belly button starting to stick out. I don't like it, it freaks me out.

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 13:30

Naturegirl82 OH constantly tries to look at my belly, it his first baby, my third and I feel really self concious about my stretchmarks from previous DC's and scar from my spinal fusion (runs from bikini line to above belly button). Anyway yesterday he gets a good look and says "OMG this is really happening" haha!

Zampa · 07/01/2015 13:38

Anyone found any good maternity jeans yet? I've one pair from H+M and another from Seraphine, both of which fall down!

I'm hoping that when I get a little fatter they stay up better!

Overtiredbackagain · 07/01/2015 13:43

Number3 OH reaction is really funny!! My OH seems to be taking it all in his stride, which I am actually finding it very frustrating! I'm sure we should be the other way round Grin

JoY007 · 07/01/2015 13:49

Thank you nature will check them out. My belly b not out yet, but I reckon not long.

Meanwhile a colleague saw me cutting up lemon wedges for my water and commented that it's not good for the baby because it's acidic. Strange given one of the suggested ways of relieving nausea is sucking on a lemon. People and their weird unfounded theories, or am I being complacent?Hmm

JoY007 · 07/01/2015 13:51

number so sorry to hear you are still feeling nauseous hopefully it will ease off soon. Going to the gym does help in taking your mind of it for that time period if that helps. x

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 13:55

JoY007 it's the thought of even getting up off my arse and moving that makes me even more nauseous haha!

I think that theory is pretty poor, we can eat fruit which is acidic!

WantToGoingTo · 07/01/2015 13:55

zampa I have some from Mothercare which also fall down! They are over bump though and big in the bump area atm though. I am hoping as bump grows they will fit ok as they fit round bum and legs fine other than being a bit long. I found the under bump jeans way too low rise for me

WantToGoingTo · 07/01/2015 13:58

joy pretty sure we can eat acidic fruit! There are so many fonts it's ridiculous I think just have to be reasonable :)

Naturegirl82 · 07/01/2015 14:10

Zampa I'm wearing some new look skinny jeans today which are fab. They are under the bump but aren't as low ride as some, but they are great. Got them off asos. I also got some asos own brand jeans (corduroy rather than denim though) which are also good. I don't like over the bump ones (I get far too hot) so can't recommend any like that.

I only wear jeans to work so needed a few pairs. I had some mothercare ones from last time and they are still ok but not what I would consider fashionable just practical.

Zampa · 07/01/2015 15:24

Thanks for the denim tips want and nature.

I'm a bit scared of underbump jeans but may give them a go for the earlier stages.

JoY007 · 07/01/2015 15:54

Number I know that feeling so well.

People and their unfounded theories. I actually read somewhere that lemon in water was very good in pregnancy as it helps with not only constipation but provides a regular source of vitamin C which body does not store.

Re jeans - over bump/under since I have no experience I will try both on and see which is more comfy. That said I am wearing my tights under my mini bump today and it feels very comfy.

I am going to buy a few more dresses for work. Not sure I can bother with skirts and trousers. I do have an Isabella Oliver skirt which I will wear more now, can be worn below or over bump, assuming that it still fits.
I wish I could treat myself to some of their maternity dresses, but really trying to learn to be more financially responsible now I am going to be responsible for another human being for the next [21 years] Grin

I had a bit of a situation yesterday with my trousers, since I get changed in the gym for work. The trousers I packed could only zip half way. So I went around with my top tucked out and half zipped trousers all day Blush. I now to have to try the outfits before I lazily dump in my gym bag. Joys of pregnancy Grin

Number3cometome · 07/01/2015 15:57

JoY007 haha!! Sorry!! xxx

broodylicious · 07/01/2015 16:14

Me too joY. Lemon tea - cold - has been an absolute lifesaver for my sickness and nausea this last week! (Also quite loving chai latte with half milk and half water at the mo).

Thanks for all your support today ladies. I've been a mess but seeing your kindness is making it a little easier.

Fleurchamp · 07/01/2015 16:34

The problem I am finding is that an outfit which is quite comfortable in the morning seems to shrink during the course of the day Blush I look like a sausage in a skin in the dress I am wearing today Shock

misseskimo · 07/01/2015 16:52

Do you have to pay for both nhs and nct classes, or just nct? Anyone have any ideas on costs ss the nct website doesn't list anything Hmm
