brixton I love reusable wipes I have some hundreds and they're great for mucky faces and make up as well as bums. We went with cheeky wipes, half of ours are seconds so were really quite cheep and have lasted just as well as the normal ones.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 07/01/2015 19:01

"most babies born after about 26 weeks' gestation do survive to one year (about 80 percent of those born at 26 weeks and about 90 percent of those born at 27 weeks), although they may face an extended stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Unfortunately, about 25 percent of these very premature babies develop serious lasting disabilities, and up to half may have milder problems, such as learning and behavioral problems"

(from www.babycenter.com/0_whats-the-outlook-for-premature-babies-born-before-28-31-33_10300031.bc)

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 07/01/2015 19:02

so we're getting there, girls!

meanwhile, due to the ex being here bitching at me for half of the day I hadn't noticed movement - one glass of coke later I'm being pummelled and feel very relieved!

TheBooMonster · 07/01/2015 19:10

Bounty Baby is now 10 days old and off ventilation, so there is real hope for babies born at 24-25 weeks too, makes me feel much safer

ebwy grump at the ex, yay that baby is happily partying away!

Anyone else notice that sometimes baby's movements tickle?

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 07/01/2015 19:19

thanks, boo
and yes, they tickle, startle, and a few times have actually hurt!

forgot about this conversation from earlier -

the 4 year old: how big is my baby sister now
me: about as heavy as the white bit of a cauliflower (he's seen them and eaten them)
the 4 year old: Mammy, you not call her Cauliflower! That NOT a good name!

cackle

daholster · 07/01/2015 19:19

That's interesting about water wipes being used in NICU. Perhaps will use them in between. I just found huggies just as good (actually a bit better for cleaning) and much cheaper!

Lauren82000 · 07/01/2015 20:19

Ugh DH is making eyes at me, guess that means were dtd tonight Hmm although I might have fallen asleep by the time he comes off the ps4.

daholster · 07/01/2015 20:51

Lol Lauren you made me laugh!!!

smogsville · 07/01/2015 21:01

Lauren you are hilarious.

My DH could make eyes all he likes, I can't be arsed.

Defo didn't have a problem with sex life going back to normal in between DD and this pregnancy btw, but I am just so not interested ATM.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2015 21:13

I've booked my whooping couch jab for 21st, having my midwife apt at 29 weeks so having it at same time. Think it's supposed to be 28-32 weeks minipie.

I didn't get any trouble for using wipes with ds1 and wasn't in hospital long enough after having ds2 to change a nappy :)

The hunger is the worst part of a gtt, dh was lovely and made me a mug of boiled water as a tea substitute in the morning when I had mine with ds2. You can get a bit of a head rush from the sugar arriving all at once after being so hungry but I was fine other than heartburn Cisforcat.

Tried to buy some vests today but all I could find was long sleeve ones. Was amazed tesco newborn only goes up to 7.5lb Shock don't remember them being so tiny before. I got up to 1 month.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2015 21:14

Wish my dh would make eyes at me!

Wineandchoccy · 07/01/2015 21:25

I've just done my 1st aquanatal class it was lovely but I'm soooo sleepy now, baby must have liked it as well as was kicking away.

RL20 · 07/01/2015 21:57

Hi everyone! I haven't been keeping up very well with conversation so I apologise!
Hope everyone's doing ok.
Had mild achy pains today in various places, and my back was really aching at work so I just kept resting. Fingers crossed I feel a lot better now I'm in bed and lying down. And baby is still active!

On another note I'm going to buy a few more baby bits tomorrow Grin have only bought a few clothing items so far!
I'm also going to hopefully start making a patchwork quilt tomorrow for baby too! Going to have a look around and see what I can find. Other than buying general material (shops, market etc) does anyone have any ideas on what I could use to cut up into squares from around the house? As I'm having a boy it's not like I can cut any of my old clothes really! X

RL20 · 07/01/2015 21:59

Wineandchoccy - aqua natal sounds good! I love swimming. It's definitely one form of exercise I'll be doing when baby is here. And I'd also Iike to get him into a pool early on too as I've always loved swimming from a young age! X

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2015 22:02

Ds1 had his first dip in a pool as soon as I'd stopped bleeding RL20, he was 5 weeks and loved it :) took a while before he didn't scream in the changing rooms afterwards though!

RL20 · 07/01/2015 22:09

Aww, it's definitely something I want to do. Hope he will take to water as well as I did! X

Hidingthefear · 07/01/2015 22:13

God i'm glad I joined Mumsnett, so much I didn't know!!
re-usable wipes, didn't know thy were a thing!! Not using normal wipes on a newborn, didn't know that either.
Had a look at that water wipes website but Tesco don't sell them and i'm not making a special trip to boots. Those beige Huggies ones are on offer though
www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=266582323

All the baby stuff I have at the moment is dark colours, but then my nan knitted a yellow cardigan and a blue and white striped one and now i think I might buy some pastel stuff myself. all the stuff i've bought so far is from 3month -12 months ish. I figured that once he's 3 months old that will co-incide with a dramatic drop in my finances so i'd spread out the spending now while I still have money spare. I've put a couple of hundered pounds aside as well so that I can use it to buy an "essentials" we may have forgotten without it crippling us.

think it was you daholster that mentioned posting pictures of what you'd bought. Can't wait. I love seeing what other people have bought. Especially for boys because I also find it seems a little limited sometimes. Will try and post some pictures too of what i've been buying ;)

im not a fan of slogan tops like "I love my Daddy's Moustache" and "totes cute" and that sort of thing. but there seems to be a lot of that.

RL What about just Tshirts or vests you don't wear anymore? Blankets, cushion covers, tea towels (them thin ones that are useless at drying anything). you could use plain material and Tie Dye yourself to make blanket squares. I added a pin to my pintrest recently for Tie Dye with Sharpies sharpies

ooops, long post, sorry : )
off to bed, i'll catch up with you all tomorrow ;)

RL20 · 07/01/2015 22:29

Hiding that's some good ideas, thank you! Ooh I used to love Pinterest! Looks like I'll be downloading that again now then!
Also I agree, lots of things that I didn't /wouldn't know before joining mumsnet! I've been trying to keep up with the wipes conversation!

Also, if you don't mind me asking I don't mean to be nosey, but why so you think there might be a drop in finances around the 3 month mark? Is it a personal thing or is it me being totally unprepared and haven't thought that far ahead ... (!!) x

brummagem · 08/01/2015 02:21

RL20 my finances will dip too. Partly due to maternity pay drop and partly due to impending nursery fees. Still undecided as to when to send him though as currently he'll be 4 months but that nicely coincides with the 1st day of new school year. Might wait and see what my new cohort are due to be like Grin

Cinnamon I'm hoping to take little one swimming asap too. I'm sure I was a dolphin I love being in the water and want him to enjoy it just as much as I do.

Lauren you are good. My DH and I have been banned due to low placenta but that's not an issue as neither of us are particularly springy atm anyway.

What things have people accrued so far? I'm buying bits like bedding bundles, wipes, muslins, bibs and about to start squirrelling away nappies. Sure our dining room will look like Mothercare when finished!

I'm 24+2 and had a right growth explosion it feels like my belly button will rip apart if I grow anymore! I used to have a lovely neat bump up to 22 weeks and was still in my normal clothes now it's full on maternity gear.

Speaking of maternity clothes does anyone have issues with under bump trousers? Bought 2 pairs of black skinny chino type things from New Look but have to keep pulling them up as every time I walk or bend or sit they start falling down! They didn't have a smaller size to try and the ones I have are my normal size. Is the moving about because they're elasticated thus mote inclined to give? It's not great at work to keep hoiking away at them.

Hope you've all been thwacked by the Glow Fairy by now!

Lauren82000 · 08/01/2015 07:09

Brum I have issues with under bump trousers but it's now because they cut into me at the wrong place and by the end of the day I'm in agony with pain across my bump. Only over bump for me from now on. (That's only a recent thing I was still struggling with over bump falling down last week!)

Hidingthefear · 08/01/2015 07:13

Hi RL well basically because I'll go from having about £300 a week wages to just £130 a week from Maternity pay. We won't get any benifits or anything because we are in that bracket of people that the government see's earns too much to need help. and then when I go back to work childcare is just over £200 a week so i'll only have about £100 a week from my wages : (
got a mortgage meeting next week though so should be able to get a new mortgage which will save me about £50 a month hopefully. And were out of our fixed term so it's already saved me £100 a month just going to standard variable from being at 6% fixed. (although we've just had to get a new car because the old one was only a 3 door and pretty old, so that's £100 a month). I've cancelled Netflix and other stuff we don't need so much to save a little here and there. DH can't do overtime for more money because he's Salaried (and already works on average 10 hours a week more than he was supposed to)

Hidingthefear · 08/01/2015 07:25

Brum I had 2 pairs of New Look under bump Jeans but when I'm sat at work all day they dig in under the bump now and he seems to wiggle when they dig in as if he can feel them restricting his movement. So now I'm living in leggings because they don't dig in. Also got some maternity pants from New look. The are over bump and are elasticated at the ankle too, I didn't get this pattern but this is what I got and they are sooo comfy
overbump pants

With Nursery i'm planning on having him go a few days in December to get used to it and build up to a full week before I go back to work in January.

Wineandchoccy · 08/01/2015 08:26

Morning I slept a lot better last night so although I hate to admit it the exercise must have done me good! The company that I am doing Aquanatal with is called Puddleducks and they run classes all over the UK, it's £30 for 12 weeks.
They do swimming classes from birth as well, there is a really cute video on the website of babies swimming under water.

So far we have bought the pram, cot bed, Moses basket, bouncy chair, lots of vests + sleep suits in various sizes, nappies, wipes, bedding.
Car seats ordered and SIL lending us Moses basket stand, steriliser and if it is a girl she has 3 bin bags of girls clothes.

I need to get a changing bag, I got the boots one but it seems a bit small I would like the one to match my pram but in a colour so might wait until baby us here and send DH shopping.

I bought some under the bump jeans from Matalan they were ok but now I've got a proper bump they don't look or feel right. I'm living in leggings at the weekend and dresses at work. matalan maternity tights are comfy and £4 a pair if anybody needs them.

26 + 2

kismac · 08/01/2015 08:44

I bought over the bump underwear from mothercare last week and Im not ashamed to admit that I love them. They are massive. They go right up to my boobs. I may never wear normal pants again.

TinyTear · 08/01/2015 08:45

Kismac, i got 2 pairs for Christmas Grin

I want to buy MORE!!!
