spinamum · 16/10/2006 22:08

my buggy/pram spent most of the last few weeks in living room

only put it in spare room when DH threatened to put it in garage How will I visit it in the early hours if it's a a cold dusty garage.

So now in room next door

Calmriver · 17/10/2006 07:45

I think I will be a late Nov if I carry to 38 weeks with DD like I did with DD1. Having my section though, now they normally book them for about 39 weeks..doubt I will carry as long as that. Couldn't make my date last time around!I won't be the earliest either, I reckon someone will be quite a bit earlier...perhaps a halloween baby???

I remember staring at all my DD1's stuff in her room and getting so excited! Especially her little car seat/rocker thing.

Anyway, got to go and have my shower.

Lucy5- Big baby! They are supposed to gain like another half of their weight in the last few weeks....WOW!
My baba is only weighing 1.35kg's(3lbs) Do you guys reckon she will reach 6lbs2 by end of next month?? Dh and I are having a guess at her birth weight! I don't see it, I'm guesstimating 5lbs13

Lucy, snap! You are the only other person "I know" whose DD has same name as mine, apart from Jamie O and can't say we are that close I like Daisy too but people are bound to comment plus it's my car's name and don't want her to get upset.

Had sobbing episode last night over whole "people coming to stay thang" (so much for being laid-back Eli ) and feel much better for it plus went to bed at 9pm. How sad is that?!

I wonder who will be 1st Calm? Magnolia, Eli or you by the sound of things. So exciting!

weirdbird · 17/10/2006 10:03

All these people with only a few weeks left!

I know I will end up as one of the last

Am now counting down....

CR - Have added you as a contact, will be back from school walk about 3.30 again.

My DD's best friend is called Daisy, so that name is out for us, would be far too confusing. Am really attracted to the old names, but that might be cause I read so many books written at the time

A few faves are Tilly, Helena, Lavender and Elizabeth

EliBoo · 17/10/2006 10:05

Aaargh, look how much chat I've missed out on: internet connection crashed, just got it nback but have to take dd to supermarket (not to exchange her, honest, just to do weeks shopping). It better be working later!

Meantime, the htought of being one of the first to go is almost as scary as going before the cheese I buy today...

Am going to look for Milo....just to calm my nerves....

EliBoo · 17/10/2006 10:06

Lucy, dh's neices are Poppy and Martha - love both!

Any sign of my email yet?!

accessorizequeen · 17/10/2006 10:26

Anyone thought of calling their ds Milo I'm sure that's what Liv Tyler called her son. In honour of us, someone ought to do it (but dp said no).

Castles, anyone else with low bp, I have had dizzy spells most of last night & this morning, finding it hard to function. Nearly fainted twice, have drunk loads of water & just run up the stairs to feel better but don't know if I should keep this up. Should I ring m/w do you think? Bump has been such a wriggler last 2 days (I blame Helen Mirren, he wanted to get out and watch her) - do you think they lie over major vessel or something? Could I get him to move off it???? Have so much work to do, but can barely focus on monitor (although enough to write on mnet).
I, too, v.envious of those producing sprogs 1st, but then I'm not remotely ready anyway. Keep stroking little fleecy jumper I bought on w/end, you're not only one spina (although your devotion to the buggy is a bit worrying

VanillaMilkshake · 17/10/2006 11:14

Good Morning Everyone,

DD and I have been for a walk in to town. And I remember from a few days agao when a couple of you mentioned fainting. Well evrytime i stop walking and have to stand - at the till etc I feel faint. Luckily post office was quiet as it worst in there as it's so small and stuffy!

Found Pampers newborn nappies on sale in Savers so bought them ready for when my new changing bag arrives!

DD was so good, so I bought a whole loaf from the cheap shelf and we stopped on the bridge to feed the ducks - what is it about being pregnant that attracks old ladies like moths to a flame to talk about babies etc. Dont really mind, just makes me laugh.

Stopped in the local second hand shop on the way back too and found DD two more Thomas videos, a Thomas puzzle, a poncho (have just sold the old one on e-bay) and suitcase for all her dolly clothes. DH will not be allowing me out with a credit card again!

castlesintheair · 17/10/2006 11:24

AQ, poor you. You should ring m/w if you are really worried though I've just had 32 week check at GP and asked again if there is anything I can do 'cos like you I keep nearly fainting. She said nothing. Great help! But apparently we have to get up from sitting very slowly and the minute you feel faint lie down on your side. Don't lie on your back if possible or not for long. I really don't know how I am going to last another 7 weeks without having a really nasty accident. I think the worry of it makes it worse plus you have loads of work AQ. Can you take a few days off or is that just not possible? My bump is really uncomfortable too (transverse) and actually caused a few tears last night . I hope it gets better for you AQ. Maybe you need to get your iron levels checked?

weirdbird · 17/10/2006 11:31

Aww Castles [hug]

Seems like we are have had enough of being pregnant with the physical ailments, I know I am.

My mum comes to visit tomorrow for a few days so wont be around much, but won't get a lot of sympathy from her, she isn't the sort...

accessorizequeen · 17/10/2006 11:39

So running up the stairs wasn't best advice then Thanks, Castles. Won't bother ringing m/w if they've nothing to suggest, I do worry like you about driving or just looking after ds if I'm going to faint. Do you feel that stress makes it worse, I do wonder about that but don't seem to be able to control it, am going to do some yoga 2nite if bp up a bit. I don't think ds22b transverse (what wld I know anyway) but it sounds horribly uncomfortable. I can't believe there's nothing either of us can do, it was like this with ds1 but of course I could rest more then!! Take care of yourself or let dh!

Can't see how I can take any time off work, I have 13 days in the office, a major project to launch & have to now complete some stupid regrading quesionnaire before I leave so may end up being downgraded. Got seriously stressed & teary last night, asthma attack as a result. I felt like saying sod you to work, really, they haven't done a thing about appointing anyone whilst I'm away but expect me to hand it all over properly!

DP taking DS away for the whole w/end so I can nest to my heart's content (going to Ikea friday evening, yay if not fainting of course). Thoughts of meatballs keeping me going....

accessorizequeen · 17/10/2006 11:41

Forgot, iron levels checked about 2 weeks ago & fine (well, they didn't ring me). I've ordered some spatone tablets, going to pick them up tomorrow so hopefully they'll help. MW recommended them.

annaspanner · 17/10/2006 12:10

Hi-Can another newbie join? I've been readin the thread for a while but haven't taken the plunge until now. I'm due Dec 1st, expecting a girl, who weighs 2 kilos so far.
My main health gripes are no sleep and achy legs. I know I should do more (ie.some) exercise but I just feel so listless all the time. No Braxton Hicks so far (or Brixton Hacks as a friend's DH calls them) but loads of hiccups and punching/kicking still-I'm 33 weeks-when will the movement slow down?

Other gripes include nursery (still not quite built, never mind painted and furnished, although work started in July) and a dp who snores, talks and thrashes around in his sleep.

We are struggling with names-we need sthg that works in both Spanish(as we livein Spain) and English. Any ideas?

As for the buggy, I love ours and DP can spend hours assembling it and taking it apart again but my family say we can't have it in the house yet as it's bad luck. I don't believe in supersticious nonsense but once somebody says a thing like that, it just stays in the back of my mind.

lubella · 17/10/2006 12:55

G'd afternoon all
I just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone, welcome anna don't worry about the obsession with taking apart and playing with the buggy, my parents have advised the same thing on having it in our house, they (and I) am Italian so I don't know if it is a Mediterranian thing. At the moment I can't take my eyes of the moses basket and have re-folded the newborn clothes about 100 times.

I think I am 99% decided on a name for my little boo but am so scared to tell everyone I honestly don't know why I have all these superstitions. Eliboo I don't know if you saw my name suggestions or what you thought of them...I love helping with name options but it is a deeply personal thing

maroon35 · 17/10/2006 12:58

Bewilder,

My bean hardly moved at all over weekend so I was getting really paranoid... went to work yesterday and movement pattern started up again.... Not sure if it was my normal hunched over computer position or the fact that my mind was taken up with other things!

Weird feeling has now passed thank god which was another benefit of work. Only got 9 days left now. BP seems to have settled down so just sending my bean "grow" vibes and concentrating on keeping calm.

Still don't feel that big (still able to climb on DH without flattening him!)

My pram is in the garage where it got banished to as DH and his family say it was bad luck to have it in the house...

Now got a list of stuff for my hospital bag thanks to you all and just need to get some bedding, clothes, toiletries, feeding gear, monitor for bean then I'm all set.

Still doesn't really seem possible that I'll have a baby before my cheese is out of date....

Make sure all you low BP gals don't overdo it..

love
maroon

p.s. my bean will be Francesca if a girl, prob Ben if a boy...
xx

VanillaMilkshake · 17/10/2006 13:02

Hi Anna,

Welcome.

Have finally ordered myself some Milo from Tesco, looking forward to seeing what you all rave about!
Ricky Lake also named her son Milo.

Anyone else suffering with nasty boil like spots popping up here and there? (yes I am asking another of those questions again) Currently have one on the underside of a boob that looks like I am growing another nipple - very very sore. And one near my nether regions which is now going down.

AQ - please take it easy, if work are being so miserable then take time off and sod them! They can't force you to take maternity leave until 36 weeks. I just told my boss yesterday I was brining my maternity leave forward from 38 to 36 weeks, so if I had sick leave up to then it would'nt affect my planned maternity leave. He's not happy, but can't do anything!

nz · 17/10/2006 13:19

Hi there, I am a student at Birkbeck College (Uni of London) studying an MSc Human Development, and part of my course requires me to take part in Infant Observations. While this sounds daunting (and maybe uninteresting for some...) it is not as clinical as you may think! It simply means that one hour a week, for about 18 months (probably no more), a warm and open mother will allow me into her home to 'observe' her (or her husbands/other family members) interaction with the new born. I will literally be a fly on the wall, I will not judge, speak or talk to the baby or the mother. I shall not be making notes (this is the clinical part I am afriad people will think), in fact you are not even suppose to notice me. The hour that you will allow me to visit will depend wholly upon the mother's wishes, though hopefully an hour when the baby isnt sleeping... As a mother with a new infant, I expect that some people will be thinking that this is the last thing they will want- an intruder/ and outsider. This is the last thing I would want to feel like too. I would like the mothers to know that this is completely confidential. Names will be changed etc. And if teh mother is interested- at the end of my course (June 2008) I have to submit a paper based on my observations, the motehrs are entirely entitled to read them too. As this is a requirement for my course, I have taken the necessary police/Crimincal Records Bureau Checks, and come from a background in child (and adult) related volunteer work as my CV will testify. If there are any expecting mothers who may be interested to hear more about this, but not necessarily make a commitment to allowing me their time, please contact me on [email protected]. My name is Neda, and I would also like to note that I think it would be in both of our interests if I could meet the mother during the end of her pregnancy to see if we are both comfortable with each other and ask any other questions beforehand. This will take the pressure off both of us!

I am looking for mothers who are expecting to give birth in November or December, or even January, preferably in Central London. I am based in Kensington.

Thank you so much and I really apppreciate your taking the time to read this!

castlesintheair · 17/10/2006 14:10

Oh AQ, you poor thing, an asthma attack too! I am sure stress makes things worse - they confirmed it in hospital too. But what do they expect you to do??? It sound's like work is only adding to it. So much for equal opportunities, so many of my friends have been badly treated whilst preggers or on maternity leave. Makes me very Fortunately I retired (was fired!) before I had DS. I couldn't have coped with working in an investment bank so it was the best thing. Now I just worry about what I am going to do once the breeding is over Anyway, please take it easy and I think you should be RESTING at the weekend not nesting. Ok then, just a bit!

Welcome Anna. Your name made we chuckle as I had a friend at school called Anna whom we used to call Spanner!

Thanks, WB . Know what you mean, the only sympathy I get seems to be on here. Which is why I'm on-line more and more The most my DM has to offer is "I never had any trouble ..." blah de blah de blah!!

castlesintheair · 17/10/2006 14:13

Forgot to say AQ you can always buy Ferrous Sulphate over the counter too which is what GP prescribes for low iron. Not sure it is working for me though yet

Calmriver · 17/10/2006 14:55

YAY! I have passed my driving test!!! OMG at 32 weeks! I must be crazy! I have felt this afternoon(probably serious relief) all my braxtons coming on fast and furious!I am absolutely shattered and just want to curl up and sleep...DD going to wake up now!!!

OP posts:
Olihan · 17/10/2006 14:57

CONGRATULATIONS CR . That's excellent news and at 32 weeks too !!

VanillaMilkshake · 17/10/2006 15:15

WELL DONE

Now take the rest of the night off and get a takeaway and put your feet up - you've earned it!

Baconbaps · 17/10/2006 15:33

Excellent news CR! Well done!

EliBoo · 17/10/2006 16:23

Wahey!!!! Congratulations Calm, passing test at 32 weeks pregnant is extra cool - well done!!!

And welcome Anna - just to show how pregnant-brained I am now, my first thought on a Spanish/English name was Anna will see what I can come up with when I've had some rest instead. I have same issue with French/English names.

Lubella, thanks - I did see the names, just no time to respond earlier as had dd in front of Peppa Pig, having said 'no more tv' ten minutes earlier; Farrah and Melize sound more Arabic than Hebrew to me, but I may be wrong - but strangely, Dalia or Daliah have popped into my head unbidden several times! DH nixed it, though. He's keen on Mischa (his family have Eastern European roots) and I do quite like it but am just not 100% sure...would love to know what you have come up with for yours, but understand the not wanting to say: I've felt like that lots.

Castles, AQ.....hugs all round, along with wagging finger saying 'rest!'. Ferrous sulphate has definitely helped me a bit, feeling more human than last week and less dizzy: my blood iron levels weren't awful, and normally they wouldn't have phoned me on them - BUT as I felt so rotten they did give me iron, and it has made a difference, so I would go for it AQ.

As for transverse pains...oh me too I wish she would turn! Still transverse at today's 32 wk apt, and OB suspects I may be prone to crosswise babies given that dd spent most of her time that way...then went head down at 36 weeks, only to disengage and turn oblique again at the first sign of a contraction.

Based on all that, both she and I bet I will end up with a section at 39 weeks. BUT if babe does go head down, and my bp stays well behaved, she will let me go to 41 weeks and attempt a vaginal delivery...no induction under any circumstances (previous section and bp issues) but she's utterly unphased by my extreme old age

Now I have to go and tackle clearing ancient cupboards in the spareroom-nursery-to-be....promise not to heft too much, and will take frequent snack breaks...

Devongirl · 17/10/2006 16:41

Hello everyone - I saw the mw this morning and my baby is head down, raring to go! Hang on tho, got 9 weeks left!!! I thought there was a reason I was a bit more waddly this week than I had been, and my hips were aching, and this explains it! He/she could and probably will still turn around though

Well done CR, that is brilliant! I could hardly drive today as I was so tired, and i have been driving for 17 years! so that is an amazing achievement and I am sure it will make your life so much easier when LO is here

xx
