HI Guys, I am still confused, so please join me on this one.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EliBoo · 16/10/2006 09:42

Oops, sorry for multiple posts. Calm, meant to say - I think it would be fine to use sister's second half of name, though if you're not sure you could always check it out with them, see if they mind?? I bet she'll be thrilled, though - having a neice names half after her

jabberwocky · 16/10/2006 10:04

elliboo - It's a board that has a plaster like finish that you can paint. Looks kind of chalky in cross-section and is really, really heavy and cumbersome to deal with on your own. He does a great job managing without help. Just wish I could wave a wand and have it finished!

As far as names, dh and I have not agreed on the middle name, but tbh, I've decided just to put it down and he can either sign the birth certificate or not! It's a family name and ds has a family name as his middle name. I just made up my mind that this was one area I was not going to budge on. At least we agree on the first name...

EliBoo · 16/10/2006 10:37

Ah...thanks Sounds like what I know as plasterboard.

We're the other way around - middle name will be Helene (my mother's name, and dh's favourite aunt's name). dd's middle name is Anne, which was MIL's name, so it seemed fair...but we like it anyway, and its both French and pronounceable in English.

But first names...

judemum · 16/10/2006 11:41

Morning everyone. Can't believe how busy this thread is. Its nice to log on and hear you all having the same traumás as me. I am officially very grumy today- woke up at 3.30am and couldn't get back to sleep, so watching TV by 4.30am and now knackered. Also fell down some stairs yesterday (only 3 but landed with a bump) and now have had lots and lots of braxton hicks which I was not having before. Anyone else getting braxtons hicks yet?? Please- make me feel better! also getting v grumpy with Dh who refuses to pull his finger out his arse and actually do anything round the house. Was writing him a to do list at 4.35am! ARGHH! sorry to moan...

judemum · 16/10/2006 11:43

Eliboo- btw love Helene- lovely name- very classic. What do you all think of these two names (first names for boys) Ewan and Fraser?? These are our last two and we're at loggerheads, so would be graeful for some frank opinions....

EliBoo · 16/10/2006 11:44

Moan away anyone who's been up since 4.30 has every right.

I was awake at 1am with a head poking my ribs and increasing heartburn, and couldn't sleep again till around 3.30 - had loads of Braxton Hicks in those two hours (don't really notice them during the day). I hardly had any with dd until the very end, so its new to me too - but yes, I think its very normal by now, and they do inrcrease when baby moves around, or when I'm stressed/done a lot.

Hope you can get some rest today, Judemum...

EliBoo · 16/10/2006 11:46

x-post - thanks! My sil, by total coincidence, is also an Helene...so was my great grandmother. Now all we need is a first name.

Out of your two, I think I'd go for Ewan...wonder if thats yours or dh's...

accessorizequeen · 16/10/2006 11:50

Fraser is ds1's name, so I'm v.keen on it judemum! It's a family name, and we liked the scottish links too. I have only met one other fraser his age. I love it, wish I could think of something as lovely for ds2, well we have one but I'm not sure...
Should I change my name now I've revealed that?!

accessorizequeen · 16/10/2006 11:51

bump really liked prime suspect, he stayed up until 1 kicking me!

judemum · 16/10/2006 11:54

I also did not get Braxton Hicks until right at the end with DS1, so I am comforted that you are also getting them already . They do make me feel a bit edgey though for some reason...another 8 weeks of this??!!

Ewan is DH's choice- I don;t dislike it, its just that I worry its a bit boring and Fraser is quite unusual and I think quite cute. But on the other hand, I don;t want DS2 to be picked on about his name and I do worry if Fraser might be a bit too much.... anyway, useful to have this anonymous poll. Might have to change my name to Ewanmum after Dec

judemum · 16/10/2006 11:56

AQ- that makes me happy!

I do love Fraser too. Have you had anyone being nasty/joking about it, or all good feedback??

judemum · 16/10/2006 11:57

AQ- How about Jude for DS2??!!

accessorizequeen · 16/10/2006 12:39

I think I did suggest Jude but dp nixed it
I have never had any negative comments at all about Fraser, everyone has said what a great name it is. It's quite common in Scotland, I think! I & DP both have unnusual names, so it seems right for us to name our children that way. Good to have 2 that you both really like, see what he looks like when he's born!!

accessorizequeen · 16/10/2006 12:40

Would have said Ewan equally unnusual too, tho?

lubella · 16/10/2006 12:46

Hello All,

Lovely to hear everyones tales from the weekend.
I was up last night for ages - my boo was literally doing some kind of two-step on my punani; I seriously thought I was going into labour or something it was so scary. DH has the longest most gangly legs so I am sure she has inherited the same.
Eliboo I love the name Helene - are you looking for other girls name options?
Judemum am I being really dim if I ask that you named your DS Jude? I love that name and was my 2nd choice for a boy - but I am having a girls so....

judemum · 16/10/2006 13:06

yes- we did call DS1 Jude and generally people like it though some have asked if its a girls name! Me and my bro are the spawn of flower children so are lumbered with v unusual names and I need to balance my own desire for unusual names against my husbands desire for VERY usual names and concerns about playground teasing if I call them Napoleon, Baldrick or something along those lines! tbh me and my bro were teased a bit, so I do have similar concerns if the names are too odd!

Calmriver · 16/10/2006 13:26

EliBoo- I have resorted to cadbury's(thats what I love!) for after eye drama...however, she would rather go without the chocolate for peace sake! The doctor has just prescribed the ointment instead...quite excited about that actually! At least she can rub it in herself!

Have to have a nap today! So tired!

Anyone up for a clean up later???? Weirdbird?

I am getting the uncomfortable ache in my belly, like braxton Hicks type contractions, but a dull ache. Have had it about 4-5 times today so far. I think I walk too fast when I'm out!

OP posts:
EliBoo · 16/10/2006 13:44

You can stick what you like in my eye for a bit of Cadbury's, Calm...

No cleaning for me - did a load yesterday, and vacuum packed a load of stuff today to put away. Felt more energetic earlier, but rushing to get dd from nursery did me in - and I've got low down aches today, must be the fast walking!

I love the name Jude...in fact, can think of loads of boys names that would work for us. But Bump's a girl, so...

There's a whole thread about names on the pg section, so I won't repeat myself endlessly, but yes - ideally we need a name that works in French and English, but also has Hebrew-ish roots. We have a long surname (starting with M), so long names don't work...and very English sounding names don't work either in our family, they wouldn't 'fit'.

dd1 is Elia (pronounced Ellia in English) Anne...dd2 will be ??? Helene. Might be Mischa. And on rebellious days am tempted by Delilah, but it doesn't work in French - though Lila does. Have had long process of me suggesting names and dh vetoing them - but does he ever suggest any?!?!?

accessorizequeen · 16/10/2006 13:54

I know exactly what you mean Eliboo, dp is really starting to p**s me off with the name thing. I got 2 books from the library, printed out all the name threads on mn for him to look at in bed, scrolled through 4,000 names on some website with him & all he comes up with are ones from Star Wars or Star Trek. No, am not calling bump Sith or Jean-Luc!

judemum · 16/10/2006 13:58

AQ hilarious.I saw a way thorough my dilemma as DH supports Nottingham Forest football club, so suggested the name Forest. Amazingly he has vetoed it! Damn!

AQ- am glad am having another boy as was v tempted by the name Sienna for a girl, but incredibly naff and embarrassing to have my children named Jude and Sienna. My niece is called Africa which I quite like too.

judemum · 16/10/2006 13:59

sorry- second bit of that was for EliBoo- brain addled today

VanillaMilkshake · 16/10/2006 14:12

Hey All,

I am back at work - and very busy as you can see . I love the idea of the name game.

We did;nt tell anyone in RL when we had DD as we knew family would be like - where's that from but, but when we phoned and said 'your GD Madison has arrived' they had no choice but to love it.

I am convinced this one is a boy and DD found Dylan which we liked, but he has now gone off. If it's a girl - well we have no idea. And if it is a boy I am rooting for Dylan or with DD's help Toby. If DH can't come up with something else we all like he's on his own. besides which I'll be the one going to the registrar he he he, I could call it Arwwen if it's a girl, or Gwain or Gallahad if it's a boy. Oh if only.

castlesintheair · 16/10/2006 14:18

Hi everyone, welcome new people, there's always so much to read on this thread!

Calm, my 2 year old brother (deranged father) is one of the people coming to stay at Christmas. I haven't seen him in a while as they live in US but a friend went to stay with my Dad and said my (half)brother is a horror. Oh joy! My DH has just told me he's spending Xmas at his parents because of it. Does anyone else feel you spend your time trying to please everyone and end up pleasing noone??

Oh dear, names are hard. We didn't have a name for DD until she was 6 weeks old when we registered her on the deadline! I love the name Helene, Eli. (Your comment was very sweet btw .) I love Fraser & Ewan Judesmum, though Ewan seems more scottish to me somehow, probably hear it less down sarf.

Braxton Hicks here too and no sleep. Can't lie on either side for long as baby transverse and DH wakes me up at 1am to tell me not to lie on my back (bless him). Felt faint AGAIN this morning so spent morning on sofa after dropping DS at school. I think this is the way forward unfortunately until Beanie pops out.

castlesintheair · 16/10/2006 14:23

There's a half-French girl in DS's class, Eli, called Lola, which I think is very cute.

weirdbird · 16/10/2006 14:33

Hello all,

We have a boys name but no girls, if its a boy it will be names after my grandfather and will be Charles James Templedon, known as Charlie, as he was!

However we have no girls name to speak of and, its not that we can't agree, we just can't seem to find one we like enough to disagree over

Ohh and CR will be up for cleaning about 3.30 when I get back from the school walk (don't do running for anything anymore! )
