Hey All,

Reading about being snappy, I bit DD's head off as she kept dancing in front of the telly during come dancing DH was a bit surprised by my outburst as was poor DD and me. I was a naughty mummy. But she does the same when he watches football and he has missed some classis goals on account of her 'watching' with him. Still cuddles all round and we're all on speaking terms again.

Finshined washing and drying baby clothes today. All now sfely put away in the chest of drawers in the nursery. Won myself a snazzy new changing bag on e-bay last night and looking forward to itis arrival so I can pack bumps hospital bag. Am still considering home birth, but just in case. Plus a friends who had a homebirth said it's easier to direct DH to finding things like nappies and vests if they are all contained and packed in bag.

Leg hasnt ached for first time all week today. Not sure if it's because I have tight socks on or have spent most of day off my feet. Been teaching DD to do more complicated puzzles and reading to her etc.

spinamum · 15/10/2006 08:32

I've realised that my version of "ready to go", doesn't involve washing Bean's coming home clothes, having my bag ready or anything practical. If he turned up very early I'd need some tiny tiny clothes anyway. I have got some bedclothes on the new mattress(which I'll need to wash before Beanie turns up but it helps my mental prep to be able to go and look at his cot made up!)
I've now got to sort out my pre pg clothes into vaccum packs and put them in garage. All the current vac packs burst during our recent sort-out and they were out of stock at Argos for two weeks so my bedroom is a total mess.
I've discovered that DS1 thinks that all the old toys and even some of the fav clothes(like his red woolly hat) are actual "new" versions for his little brother and not his! Do I correct him or leave it (thus ensuring peace and tranquility)? He even went to seach the hall storage box(for hats, brollies, gloves, etc) to find his "santa" hat. Feel slightly guilty for the deceit! He's cool about buggies and cots etc but is very attached to his hat.

catkins1000 · 15/10/2006 09:57

What have you all found to be the best pillow for helping you to sleep? Bought one from Bump to 3, but its not that comfy, and am feeling like I might crack up soon if I don' get a comfy sleep! What with aching hips, pelvis, getting up to wee all the time etc! Any ideas? Don't even care how much it is....

accessorizequeen · 15/10/2006 11:07

spina, those vac packs are pita, mine all burst last year & still haven't done anything about it! I am trying to zone house this morning to flylady rules (dp v.enthusiastic about this, except he won't actually clean or tidy anything). My house doesn't fit flylady zones though!

catkins, I use a soft flattish fleecy flattish one from Habitat but I think the double sided one that blooming marvellous sell looks great. I had one of those long ones last time & it's stayed in the garage so far! Remember you get 10% off at BM being a mn person.

accessorizequeen · 15/10/2006 11:08

Not so snappy this morning But last night....grrrrr

castlesintheair · 15/10/2006 13:10

Oh no, I haven't done a THING for the baby's arrival. You have spurred me into action (next week ) with all your organisation. I also haven't done a thing about Xmas, apart from saying "yes" to all the people who want to come and stay beforehand and during. Oh dear.

indiemummy · 15/10/2006 13:57

hello! can i join in? my baby (my second) is due 9th dec. i am feeling pretty much the same as you guys, and v relieved i am not the only snappy hormonal sleep-obsessed crazy pregnant lady around. i can already tell i won't be able to keep up with you lot as i tend to only go online once a day, if that, but i will drop in from time to time and see how you are all doing!

still panicking about names at the moment - we're having a girl and DP and i just cannot agree! it's too important for me to compromise. DP refuses to be convinced so far! and i have my heart set on this one name in particular. wish me luck...

haven't even thought about getting my hospital bag ready yet, though our eco crib from mothercare arrived yesterday! (just need a mattress, sheets etc now) love from indiemummy xxx

maroon35 · 15/10/2006 16:36

Ok guys, question bombardment time.....

what do i need in my hospital bag?
do i need a labour bag? (will i even get that far?) where do i get maternity towels from (have some from mothercare but haven't seen any at my local morrisons/sainsburys/tesco)?
if baby isearly what do i absolutely definately need?
help, stressing like mad.....

also feel weird and spaced out.....

love to you all

maroon

EliBoo · 15/10/2006 20:43

Welcome new people! Indiemum, we're still unsure about names too...and its a girl...I've given up, just going to do a short list then see which one she looks like on arrival (none, I bet).

Maroon...are you ok? If you feel too weird, get yourself checked out tomorrow. I can't remember a thing about hospital bags, but basic baby things, toiletries for me, and my notes my notes I always forget my notes. And birthplan (not done yet). Will try harder tomorrow when I've had some sleep

dd has been a handfull today, but has crashed early...so I'm off to bed with some warm vanilla-y milk. Felt a bit better, think iron kicking in - made it to treat outing yesterday with neice and dh, to see Billy Elliot: wish they'd kept the original film music instead of wishy washy Elton, but it was still good fun. Nice to be out again

Hope everyone is well and has had a good weekend...xxx

accessorizequeen · 15/10/2006 20:44

welcome indiemummy, clearly all the rest of the crazy, snappy mums to be are having a rest
Castles, can't believe you're having lots of people to stay when you've only just moved house & then will be having another baby!
Maroon, everyone has lots of suggestions for hospital bags - there's a recent thread here . 2nd time round, I'll be packing a labour bag & a hospital bag, last time I had one huge bag that we couldn't find anything in. Personally I think food is most important, will be taking lots of snacks plus my comfy pillow for comfort & breastfeeding. The mumsnet booklet you can pick up at m/care has a hospital bag list which I thought was quite sensible. Think boots also do maternity pads, that's where I was going to buy some.

If baby's arriving early, basics would be something for him/her to wear - bodysuits+sleepsuits+jumper/cardie+blankets/snowsuit etc+nappies, somewhere to sleep when he/she gets home + a car seat that you both know how to put in & out of the car (otherwise stuck in car park in freezing weather with screaming baby....).

EliBoo · 15/10/2006 20:44

Castles, I'm so impressed. You've just moved, will have a new baby, and have invited lots of people for Xmas? You must be a very laid back lovely person

Me, I plan to batten down the hatches and be as low-key as possible

Though I did buy some wrapping paper today...

VanillaMilkshake · 15/10/2006 20:46

Evening everyone. Hi Indie - welcome.

Catkins, I use one of those 'V' shpaed pillows from Mothercare which fits between my knees under my bump and can be cuddled.

Maroon, I have 2 bags, baby's and mine - you don't need a seperate labour bag, most hospitals make you keep everything with you anyway. Take over night stuff and a then a seperate section with whatever 'birth' clothing, snacks (cereal bars are good) and juice and shower gel - I was lucky after DD was born I got offered a shower. Also a pack (or four) of maternity towels in both sections. The maternity towels are normally kept in the baby isles rather than with 'femine products' Depending on your labour you might also want to take stuff to do I the early stages, I took a puzzle book, but was so excited I could'nt keep my mind on it.

The stuff in the books (Emma's diary, Bounty etc) is usually quite good for what to pack in the baby bag.

EliBoo · 15/10/2006 20:46

x-post AQ, well done on the bag-list!

Am about to try and shove a load of dd's might-still-fit-next-summer stuff into one of those vacuum bags....am now convinced its going to burst

EliBoo · 15/10/2006 20:47

Oooh, and you, Vanilla - bag packing is coming flooding back to me now.

Speaking of vanilla....

'night xx

VanillaMilkshake · 15/10/2006 20:51

Well, DD has named the baby - yes, following her recent conversion to the worlds biggest Thomas the Tank Engine fan, the baby is now called ...Toby. Suggested to DH if it is a boy we let her name it Toby (I have loved this name all along but discarded it when DH said no). He is now unsure as she's so very sure and keeps patting my bump and saying 'Hello Toby'

Also went shopping today and in H&M ended up buying DD (at her request) a Spiderman top, sock and backpack!! Here comes my Tomboy -Yay!

accessorizequeen · 15/10/2006 20:52

course I haven't actually packed mine, unpacked any of the baby stuff, nor do we have somewhere for baby to sleep. and no car seat either. But hey, Prime Suspect is on, so sod it.

EliBoo · 15/10/2006 20:58

Toby is lovely. Unlike Yup Yup Prison, which is dd's choice of names for baby.

Why am I still here, aargh...clinically incapable of going to bed early...

VanillaMilkshake · 15/10/2006 21:05

Eli, I like YUp Yup - not sure about the Prison bit though

I know what you mean, I just can't switch MN off. It used to be E-bay, and so tonight DH said please try not to spend anything. I pointed out I now spend most of my time on here chatting to you lot and he has asked me to ask you if you know how to make money quickly - something to do with buying unnessecary Spiderman stuff or something??

Calmriver · 15/10/2006 21:45

Hi Guys,

Are we doing hospital bag packing? I know mine is coming earlier than due date, but still am not quite at terms with the fact that Baby will be here soon.

I was wondering about names. Toby is very cute! Vanilla.

Is anyone else sharing names?or is it only going to be after the birth?

I have a question>?

I have a 3 year old SISTER!(An excitable father obviously!) Her name is hyphenated. The second part is what we would like to use for our little DD's second part, so do you reckon that is wrong??? I don't want to be a copy cat, but WE DID like this name before my Sister was even born!!!

OP posts:
VanillaMilkshake · 15/10/2006 22:16

CR, have a look under Other Subjects as there is a thread about re-using names - am no good at linkning or would have put it in for you - sorry. Is not quite the same as what you are asking but similar. FWIW I think when your sister is a bit older she will feel quite proud to have her niece names after her (even though you liked the name before she was born).

Am waiting for my new baby bag that i won on e-bay to arrive, then I am going to start having some fun!

have 32 week scan on Thursday, hoping to be told an earlier rather than late delivery is likely, fingers crossed.

jabberwocky · 15/10/2006 22:34

Hi everyone, I just found this great site with a pattern download for a Boppy pillow slipcover and a hospital bag packing list.

Dh has been diligently hanging sheetrock in the nursery today. Who knows? It may actually get finished in time.

Calmriver · 16/10/2006 08:19

I know what you mean Vanilla..

My 32 weeks ob appointment is on Thursday or Friday this week(must check) and I'm hoping for the same thing. They can be nightmares giving dates for sections, so I am going to be on their case!

Now ALL---

Think of me while I try to get eye drops into 2 year old DD's eyes. I am going to have to literally sit on top of her to hold her down...Have had Dh to help me the whole weekend, but now its me on my own!

OP posts:
Calmriver · 16/10/2006 08:21

Oh,and for the hospital bag-

get some Arnica! Great for bruising, and works in hours! Help so much with my cut!

EliBoo · 16/10/2006 09:40

Morning all,

Bump decided to stick her head under my ribs at 1am, causing increase in heartburn and gasping, and feet somewhere inside my cervix (felt like it at least) causing endless pee stops. Think she's trying to be an early walker...is it ok to swear at unborn babies, d'you think?!

Calm, hope the eyedrops went ok - I found polka dots administered straight after helped (pd because so tiny, dd could have 2 or 3 and be thrilled but still teeny amount of chocolate - though I'm probably training a future G&B addict!).

I'd rather like to brainstorm names...we're not telling anyone in RL, because its hard not to take family reactions on board, but here..what d'you reckon?

I have to buy a bag, never mind figure out what to put in it - also have 32+ apt this week (tuesday) to discuss 'modes of delivery'. Oooo. Will definitely be putting G&B's milk chocolate in, though

EliBoo · 16/10/2006 09:41

Jabber, whats sheetrock??
