Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 18th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 35th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread in postnatal clubs here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates! It's a bit quiet at the moment, but with all these upduffed viroids hopefully it won't be for long!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

So, roll call below please, viroids!

Also heard a lot of recommendations for Emily Oster like Pis says. She lets you drink and eat sushi and all sorts Smile

willywallace · 25/12/2014 23:19

She's kind of waiting for proof though i.e. they haven't proved it's detrimental on the whole so therefore it doesn't do any harm; which I don't really think makes sense in this case. It's pretty impossible to determine whether there is a safe limit as there are so many confounding variables and ethical issues etc. (This isn't in reference to your one glass of prosecco La Grin ). I don't really subscribe to her way of thinking, although I haven't read the book in fairness.

Pisghetti · 26/12/2014 01:16

On alcohol specifically she challenges the conclusion that being unable to prove a safe maximum is a justification for a blanket recommendation of nil as you cannot prove a safe maximum of anything. However the intention of the book is to present the evidence in terms of the best research available (and yes the ethics of randomised trials on pregnant women do really challenge how you design those studies!) and leave it to the individual to make the choice that works for them. She discusses this fairly early on - you find out the numbers (from the research data) weigh up the pros and cons for you personally and come to a decision. Personally I've abstained entirely until a glass of bubbly yesterday. I'm happy with not having had any alcohol up to that point and I'm also comfortable with the drink I had yesterday. But I'm probably not going to have another.

Baby has been sooo quiet today and is now having a rave party in the disco womble. I should be getting some sleep but I'm quite enjoying watching her Smile just hope she's not establishing a pattern of being awake in the wee small hours!

Morning (eurgh)
Merry Christmas and all that. Weird day at Minions! So different, but wonderful at the same time. I'll update when I've slept.
Robyn is amazing, but a quick question for those who have gone through this already..
What the holy hell do you do when they wake up as soon as you put them down??
She will sleep on us all day long, but put her down and she just won't settle.
She's very handsy but won't be swaddled for love nor money.
Husband and I are currently taking it in shifts each.
We are beyond tired. But she's got the softest peach fuzz hair I can't be mad at her, and I can't stop kissing her either.
Also my milk has come in and my norks are offensive!

cookielove · 26/12/2014 04:43

min in the early days most people just take it in shifts. I put him down for the first part of the night as he would always settle then and the 2nd half he would sleep on my chest. And I would doze!

A good trick I did when he was super little was to rock him off to sleep on his moses basket matteress (awkward) on my arms and when asleep transfer him into the basket. Use to get alot of sleep doing it that way!

JuniDD · 26/12/2014 04:54

Aw min sounds like you are doing great.

DD would never be swaddled, she loves to have her arms free. I just held her until she was deeply asleep then transfer to cot/bednest. I fed her when she woke. Only nine or so weeks ago, feels like ages!

Minion · 26/12/2014 05:31

So if I doze with her on my chest in not breaking every cardinal parenting sin going??
I'm a light sleeper anyway so this could work well for me...
She's just so blooming beautiful, bias much. Had the dreaded day 3 hormone crash. Everytime I looked at her and the husband I bawled with happiness.
There's just no words to describe it.

He's a bit Worried about me tbh, with no sleep etc but for some reason I just won't be told!
Martyr.
Though when I see her with him I just fancy the pants off him more and more.

Did it get better /easier?
Please say so

FurryScoob · 26/12/2014 06:32

Same problem here minion I have rolled up 2 blankets & put them down the sides of the Moses basket & then I have a wheat filled pig (called bacon) that I keep on the radiator & put in the basket for 10 minutes before DD. I've also spend loads of time with her asleep in my chest while I'm dosing. Not recommended by midwives or health visitors but at 1 point it was the only way I got any sleep. It does get better, it just takes time for them to get use to the big wide world!

FurryScoob · 26/12/2014 06:37

Sorry crap photo, blankets are down the side like sausages. Blanket around her head was supposed to work as a little cacoon but I was scared she'd suffercate on it

RPopz · 26/12/2014 06:44

Sounds like you're doing amazingly Min Smile Does this mean you're home now?? Grin

willywallace · 26/12/2014 07:04

That's interesting Pis, I've only read articles by and about her because clearly I'm too lazy to read an actual book. I agree everyone has to make their own mind up. I just don't really like the confusion around NHS guidelines etc but I guess it's the same about their guidelines for most things on pg. It's just an issue a bit close to home for me which makes me slightly ranty Blush .

Min it definitely gets easier. I'm trying to remember that far back if I'm honest. I think sometimes I just stayed with her after putting her down and rubbed her tummy or let her suck my knuckle or something to calm her down. Am sure it didn't always work but it must have done sometimes. Thing about her sleeping on your chest if you're a light sleeper is that you won't really get any proper sleep which isn't great for you. Also my friend did do this and Is still having to do it at toddler stage - totally anecdotal 'evidence' but scared the shit out of me Grin . Are the sheets warm enough when you put her down? Could be change of temperature is startling her. I put MiniWil down quite a lot whilst she was awake too so she wasn't always used to being held, no idea if that helped or not. She was never a great daytime napper though until she got older. Although R is literally days old, they change habits all the time so don't be worrying that what she's doing now will definitely be the case in a couple of weeks.

Cookie, MiniWil always slept terribly away from home too. Think they like the little world they know best.

laurenamium · 26/12/2014 08:27

Oh la I hope the guilt has passed! Angry At your mil! I didn't even know I was pregnant with DD at 11 weeks and went on a bender in Newcastle with LOTS of champagne. Found out the week after Blush I bet your mil drank stout and Guinness when she was pg too! One glass of prosseco is nothing at all!

Min it does get easier. DD didn't sleep and hated being swaddled, I had nights where she slept on me. One night I woke up panicking that I had fell asleep holding her, couldn't find her anywhere and ripped my bed apart practically in a blind panic...she was asleep in her Moses basket Blush Sleep deprivation is the worst but do listen to DP and sleep where you can!

Sorting day here, finding homes for everything and then visiting DPs family before horses later! Hope everyone had an amazing day yesterday!

DulcetMoans · 26/12/2014 10:05

Merry Boxing Day!

Woken up with a saw throat. MIL trying to give me lemsip but need to grab a read of the box before I agree. Don't think I like it anyway.

Hope you are feeling better after the alcohol guilt la. As the others have said, I am sure it's not a problem. I had a few sips of cava yesterday too, sounds like a few of us did.

Hope you are home min! Of course she's beautiful, look at her!

I think I have that book from the economist. Got it in first pg but it's all packed away now. Will get it out again if scan goes well - week today!

TheBooMonster · 26/12/2014 10:17

Hope you are feeling less guilty today la! I had a small set to about alcohol in cranberry sauce and the trifle was alcohol free, alcohol free trifle I tell you?! Took double helpings of the cranberry sauce!

DD has the serious hump as we've been in the house (apart from a car journey) since Tuesday, I'm also climbing the walls a bit but short of a supermarket that's a drive away there is nowhere to go cries sister is off to the sales today and I'm actually a bit jealous

Hope you're all having a lovely Boxing Day! Anyone braved the sales?

TheBooMonster · 26/12/2014 10:18

Dulcet I seem to recall lemsip
Is a no due to the thing with a Long name beginning with P, it restricts blood vessels or something. Honey and lemon are your friend!

RPopz · 26/12/2014 10:33

Eurgh Dulce ... poor you. Nearly all cold and flu stuff is not allowed unless you get a prescription I discovered! Paracetamol, vapour rub, and halls soothers is about all we get!

Sister is wanting to blitz the sales today... I'm going to stick to walking the dog I think!!

RPopz · 26/12/2014 10:34

Plus Lemsip is rank anyway.... BOOORK

Nessalina · 26/12/2014 12:02

Morning all Smile
Sounds about right Min, they just want oodles of comfort when they're little Smile I've mostly fed J to sleep -he's a lazy feeder so he often ends up boob snoozing! When he drops off I transfer him to the crook of my arm, then give it 15mins before transfer to Bednest - once his jaw goes slack I know he's deep asleep. I reckon I've got a 75% transfer success rate!!

RPopz · 26/12/2014 12:34

Ooof, Gina Ford would be raging at you lot! Haha Wink x

ChatEnOeuf · 26/12/2014 12:46

Min, that sounds entirely normal. We fed to sleep and walked around the house in shifts in the early months weeks. It gets better but I can't promise when...

La, my MiL was dishing out the wine - I'm fully expecting some more this evening. I've always read the paper behind the science headlines, and the alcohol papers are all of reasonably poor quality. I have always followed the RCOG guidance of 1-2 units once or twice a week being safe. Having never felt like it in the first trimester I allow it after without guilt.

Dulcet, genius idea. Please put a spare knife and fork in, for cutting up your food for you when you're bfing Grin

Minion · 26/12/2014 13:03

Oops sorry, yes we're home now. Bullied them into letting us go Xmas eve. as did everyone else on the ward. We were the last to go as we needed to see if Madam was feeding one good bottle to be sure.
Turns out after the 2 x gel to induce me, I started to get contractions but wasnt even in labour! Think it works have been a c section either way tbh.
Hope you had a merry Christmas everyone xxx

Pisghetti · 26/12/2014 16:58

It's lovely seeing the recent grads on their first Christmases Smile

Boring Boxing Day sale question - the car seat I want (maxi cosi cabriofix) is currently £67 in argos down from £99 everywhere else. However only in black and I wanted red. It's silly paying 50% more for the red right?

OP posts:
lildottie · 26/12/2014 17:07

pis black won't show the dirt as much...? I wouldn't pay the extra for red but I'm an accountant!

ZylaB · 26/12/2014 17:46

pis I got the black cos, it was really cheap in a sale too.
