Hi London it's nice to get new stuff. I'm not getting much as we're skint, but if we have a girl, I think I might have to splash out a bit Blush

Tea hope you're feeling better this afternoon. It's horrid being ill on top of being pregnant...

TinyTear · 15/02/2015 17:16

Hello. I'm fine if a bit tired. Yesterday had a nursery birthday party at soft play and today we went to the playground... I just to lie down and rest!!!

And for a romantic valentine's we watched Gone Girl

OP posts:
smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 15/02/2015 18:20

Oh tiny is gone girl any good, I want to watch it but DP not too keen.

We have dsc here so I've become a tutor for the week, since yesterday I've helped dsd with her gcse science, history, geography and maths gcse coursework and dss's English project.

Shetland · 15/02/2015 20:26

Blimey smiling I'm not sure I'd be much help with that homework!

Hang in there tanny Can't be too long now :)

What pram have you decided on London ? I' on to my 5th in four years and I'd quite like something different for this baby but DP's patience has worn thin ;)

Hope your Dad is ok tea Flowers

I did a farm/park place yesterday tiny and I was in bed by 9 - it was exhausting! Today has been a quiet day at home.

LIG1979 · 15/02/2015 20:47

Wow - Shetland that is alot of buggies. Any reason for all the changes? Although I imagine that with yours all so close together you have needed a double. We are hoping to get by with a buggy board and sling as dd will be 2.8 when ds arrives. Got our buggy serviced so it now looks and feels like new.

Smiling - that doesn't sound like much relaxing! Will you get a chance to rest this week?

Tea - hope you feel better soon. No maternity leave sounds tough. Do you have your own business? Hope visiting your dad is ok - it must be so upsetting for you.

Tiny - sounds like you are keeping busy. Did you get to lie down?

We had a big duvet day and I spent alot of it asleep. dh woke me up on Friday night and then dd was ill last night so I had hardly slept all weekend. Probably fitted in about 4 hours sleeping today. Feel quite well at the moment so hoping dd hasn't spread it to me. The last few weeks mean that I now weigh the same at 31+2 as I did at 27 weeks which I don't think is good -I did loose some and then have put it on again slowly. Cannot believe I am worrying about not putting on weight. Have only put on 4.5kg since 10 weeks pregnant. Got a growth scan on Thursday so that will hopefully be reassuring and the little guy is still moving lots. My bump is also much bigger than with dd even though I gained more weight with dd. With dd most went to my bum and thighs rather that bump.

TinyTear · 15/02/2015 20:48

Smiling, it is quite good yes. Have you read the book? It's very faithful to it...

OP posts:
smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 15/02/2015 21:01

tiny I haven't read the book, I bought it but haven't got around to reading it, I wasn't sure whether to read it first or watch the film first.

I've surprised even myself with how much I've been able to help dsd the only one I had to resort to Google with was geography.

Dsc are pretty good at waiting on me to be honest so ill probably get more rest this week than I will at any other time Grin

I'm off shopping tomorrow for the last baby bits with my mum and nan, just need cot sheets and vests then we are ready.

My back is really sore today and I've had a few braxton hicks this afternoon and just feel generally uncomfortable.

Shetland · 15/02/2015 22:09

Partly indecisiveness LIG and partly changing needs. One was a double (which I still have and may use as DD2 will be 2.5 when DD3 arrives), one umbrella fold which is great for travels but impossible to steer one handed so not much use to me on a daily basis. The other 3 were me changing my mind and wanting something different. In my defence, only the first one was bought new - all the others are eBay finds and I never paid more than £20 more for one than I sold it's predecessor for IYSWIM.

TinyTear · 16/02/2015 09:30

Great, starting insuling this evening...

Will need to call the diabetic nurse later on to confirm quantities and stuff, but on well, only for 6 weeks and if it helps me now worry too much about fast levels, then I am happy...

I am having the csection at 38w anyway, so it's not as if it will ruin my dreams of a "natural" birth (tried it once, thanks...)

OP posts:
LondonSuperTrooper · 16/02/2015 11:05

Tea hope your dad recovers well in hospital.

LIG I have the opposite problem of you. My weight gain is spiralling out of control! I hope that DD is feeling better now.

Smiling best of luck with DSC's homework, it sounds like a lot!

Shetland I'm going to splurge and buy the bugaboo. I had my heart set on it 8 years ago and we couldn't afford it as DH was a student at the time. We still can't quite afford it now.....

Plus I have to buy car seats all over again. I didn't know that car seats have an expiration date!

Tiny why are you having a c section?

30+1 and 8 weeks until I start my maternity leave Grin

TinyTear · 16/02/2015 13:02

London, the list includes:

  • previous Section (so itchy scar and i am scared it will rupture and the likelyhood of needing an ELCS when trying VBAC is huge)
  • delivering early for the GD and don't want to be induced with the drip again as the pessary failed
  • weird placenta so this way I can hope they make sure to get everything out

and the selfish reason, will be easier with DD childcare as we can take her to nursery, go and have a baby, and bring her to meet her... although her best friend's mum has offered to take her if we need...

OP posts:
TeaandHobnobs · 16/02/2015 13:51

Tiny that sounds like bloody good reasoning to me. My friend had an EMCS the first time, followed by a burst appendix 4 weeks later, and was advised ELCS the second time around due to the likelihood of adhesions and risk of rupture (had ELCS at 38 weeks I think). I'm so glad she went with it. And I'm with you on the doubts re early induction...

London that is so annoying about the car seats! I think our baby seat is ok as it is coming up for 3 years old. I looked for the expiration date when I took the cover off to wash, but either I didn't find anything conclusive, or it was find and I've just forgotten what it was Grin By the way, sand coloured car seats may seem a good idea (doesn't get as hot in the sun, etc) but it turns out you cannot make it look clean again. Or that may be because I never washed it the whole time DS used it... disgusting

It is chucking it down here today! Oh well, I wasn't planning to go out anyway. Friday evening, DS and I had to sit in the car for 20 minutes when we got back from nursery, as it was raining so hard!

LIG I'm now working freelance, predominantly for a former boss of mine, so it is not quite the same as my mat leave with DS, where I just buggered off for a year and left the rest of my team to it Grin From a financial perspective, I don't want to be not working for a long time, but also I quite enjoy it, so as soon as my brain feels capable (i.e. I am actually getting some sleep), I intend to pick up a bit here and there. There are massive benefits to having such flexible work, but there are also some drawbacks too.

Re my dad, social services have said they will give us a choice of three homes again - just waiting to hear what they are, then I will go visit with my mum...

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 16/02/2015 20:11

london my charge had the bugaboo, I bloody hated it, in fact I hated it so much I bought my own one to use.

My entire body hurts and I'm waddling because the baby feels so low down add to that the fact I'm getting 4 hours max sleep a night and I'm pretty miserable.

35+1

LittleBairn · 16/02/2015 20:44

I'm buying a bugaboo too I've used almost every pushchair there is and its my favorite. If we still lived in the countryside I would also buy a cheap 2nd hand mountin buggy they are great buggies that take a lot of abuse.

In regards to Car seats the NCT rent baby car seats out for around £35 for 6 months.

Tea I hope you find somewhere nice for your dad and he continues to improve.

I had a crappy weekend in Thu I pulled a muscle in my back, I had previously pulled the same muscle around the time I had my surgery but this time its a lot worse. I've been in agony and because of it I can only lie on one side (and for most of the weekend couldn't move at all) so I've now getting sciatica and cramps down my right side. Not to mention my PGP.
Needless to say after months of bed rest my body is pretty weak.

LIG1979 · 16/02/2015 21:13

Tiny - I agree with the logic of your childbirth. That is the one thing I do worry about a natural birth is that mine started so quickly and I would need to get someone to turn up to take dd as I don't want her seeing it. (It was 30 mins from feeling a bit constipated to pure agony and phoning the hospital and getting dh home.) A planned day sounds perfect. However, my one reason for a natural birth was so I could go home immediately. If that is not an option now I am thinking an epidural as I had one for a retained placenta last time and it was lovely to be pain free for a while. I am also not keen in induction as it sounds like if your body doesn't want to go into labour it is just painful. A shame about the insulin - but I think breakfast does seem to be the toughest meal for most people with gd.

Smiling - can you fit a nap in during the day. I found last time, I couldn't sleep during the night for long but if I got up for a couple of hours I could then go back to sleep or I would have a nap in the day. So I got my sleep quota but in 2 lots.

London - dd is much better and did her first day settling in at nursery. She was quite happy tonight about it all but quite quiet when left there for a bit. I think with the weight gain, my body does what it needs to do and last time I followed a similar pattern gaining most in the 1st and 3rd trimesters. This time I gained a whopping 5.5 kg by 10 weeks and then 4 kg since then but I did loose some and gain it back. Which I think is in the wrong proportions. I have been trying to eat a bit more for the last couple of days but I think the blood testing means that I am making healthier choices and this is slowing down the weight gain.

Tea - that sounds better for your dad. Hopefully you will find one you think he will like.

Little - hope you feel better soon. Not long now till you can start getting your life back. Albeit a different life to your pre-pregnancy life.

Thought I was going into early labour earlier. In hindsight I think it was constipation as a painful toilet trip seems to have sorted it. It kept coming in waves and I had trouble sitting at work as it hurt to sit up straight and if I leant back I couldn't reach my keyboard. 18 working days left! Grin Grin Grin We should also offer my maternity cover a job tomorrow and I think I have found someone good internally to cover another member of my team. No idea how we will do a handover with so little time but hey ho. I won't care once I am holding the little guy in my arms.

LondonSuperTrooper · 17/02/2015 07:21

Smiling why did you hate the bugaboo? It seems so easy to manoeuvre and babies look so cosy inside there. I hope you get some sleep- not long till you have the little one in your arms.

Little I'm buying the bugaboo package which also includes the car seat. I think that my DS and I also decided on the colour. You sound like you are in so much pain. I hope it eases soon for you. It'll be worth it in the end Smile

LIG glad that your work situation is improving. It's great that you can handover, it feels less guilty somehow. As for food, I am trying to make the right choices. My weakest point are in the evenings. I must really control it though as I'm beginning to feel huge and I have another 10 weeks to go!

Tiny sorry about the insulin. Hopefully this will stabilise your blood sugars. And I like your birth plan- no major panic about what to do with DD.

LondonSuperTrooper · 17/02/2015 07:22

Yea, hope you will find a nice home for your father.

LondonSuperTrooper · 17/02/2015 07:22

Yea should read Tea!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 17/02/2015 08:33

london I hated the fact it didn't fit in the car without taking the wheels off, and since we live on the country and have to drive everywhere, dismantling the buggy and then putting the wheels back on several times a day was a major pain. He also seemed to outgrow it really quickly and by the time he was a year just looked squished in it.

But it was easy to push and if you use public transport rather than a car all the time I'm sure it's actually a nice pushchair.

I had an awful night, I thought I had gone into labour. I had awful lower back pain and cramps and felt really sick, luckily not labour but the midwife thinks he was engaging and is getting ready. I'm hoping he will stay where he is for a couple more weeks but as the midwife said babies come when they want to!

I still feel strange so will be resting lots today but beanie is active so am trying not to worry.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 17/02/2015 08:34

little I'm sorry your so uncomfortable, hopefully DP is taking good care of you x

Shetland · 17/02/2015 08:36

tea hope the homes are good - it must be a tough decision.

london I know a few people with the bugaboo and they all love them. And they're all still using them 3-4 years later which is always a good sign.

tiny your planned cs should like a good plan - especially from the childcare point of view!
My second labour was so quick that our babysitter just got there and we walked straight out of the door to head to the hospital - she was born about 5 minutes after we got there Shock I really thought she was going to be born in the corridor at one point.
Bit worried about that for this time but my midwife reckons third labours can go either way so we'll see.

I seem to be packing weight on again, after not adding any for a few weeks. Though I never seem to stop eating so it's hardly surprising. I think I'm in line for another 2 stone gain if I carry on like this. Need to cut down meals portions sizes.

Shetland · 17/02/2015 08:40

little hope your back sorts itself out soon.

And that baby smiling hangs on for a couple of weeks.

30+5

dancestomyowntune · 17/02/2015 08:54

Hi ladies, lost this thread and just found you all again!

I'm sure most of you already know because I have posted it elsewhere but baby made an early arrival thirteen days ago, when I was 30+2 weeks pregnant. I had an emergency section after a couple of weeks in hospital trying to get my blood pressure under control. She weighed 2lb11oz and is doing really well in neonatal. She was moved out of intensive care and into hdu over the weekend and is even wearing clothes now (although they are far too big still!)

I cannot wait for her to come home but have to say the last couple of weeks have flown by and she is doing so well that I am hoping once she can feed from a bottle they might let her home in about three weeks or so (although I have been told to aim for 37 weeks, which would be five weeks now, but I am ever optimistic!).

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 17/02/2015 09:21

dances congratulations on your baby girl, I'm so glad she is doing well although it must have been a very worrying time for you Flowers

TeaandHobnobs · 17/02/2015 10:18

Hi dances glad you and your little DD are doing well.

My DS wasn't quite as prem (31+5) but I know what the neonatal and prem journey is like, and I have a couple of friends who have preemies around DS' age that arrived at 30 weeks, or even earlier.

We were also told to expect a term discharge, but DS suddenly picked up speed in his second week and really got the hang of feeding - literally in the space of a few days. So fingers crossed she will be coming home soon Thanks

Sounds like you are being very positive, which is excellent, but do make sure you have lots of support for you, both now, and when DD comes home - it can be a rough emotional ride.
