Siarie the important thing with any type of baby carrier is that the legs are supported out to the knee. The baby should be snuggled up to you in a frog-legged position with the knees drawn up and the upper legs supported. The reason the BabyBjorn is less than ideal is because the baby is only supported at the crotch and the legs are left dangling and uncomfortable. All my three had to be checked out for hip dysplasia so knee-to-knee support was vital so there was no pressure on the hip joint. A lot of parents assume their baby will want to face out but it's absolutely not necessary and for a young baby it's far too stimulating. When the baby is facing you then they can turn their head when they want to see things or turn their head in towards you when they need a break. I actually find it quite stressful to see a young baby facing out in a sling with their arms and legs pumping up and down from all the stimulation. Contrast that to a baby facing inwards that will be calm and relaxed, able to follow the mother's social cues and to look for reassurance, but still be able to see the world if they want to. I find it baffling that so many parents insist on a parent-facing pushchair but then think the baby will want to face away from them in a sling.

Incidentally Siarie I found babywearing to be absolutely fantastic for my back and core. I was practically crippled with sciatica, bursitis and a slipped disc last pregnancy and babywearing allowed me to build up my strength very gradually as my baby got bigger. I was out today carrying my two-year-old on my back for a couple of hours with no problems.

If we could like posts on here, I'd like yours, Stunt. Absolutely my sentiments on Bjorn-style carriers.

smogsville · 11/12/2014 18:58

Thanks Banana and Freedom, yes it's tomorrow morning. Getting a bit restless now so planning a good feed to quell the anxiety! Mum and Dad are having DD so all being well DH and I will pop into Soho for a spot of lunch afterwards.

Hope yours goes well too Banana and anyone else with one tomorrow.

Great news on movement minipie and Freedom. Mine's been quite quiet today. I wonder if this hot as hell Korean chilli paste will wake him up (mwah ha ha)?

I have just read this back and it's clear I basically think of nothing but my next meal.

21+1

FreedomHuntress · 11/12/2014 19:01

Ah, you live in London, hence smogsville! I like knowing reasons for usernames. (Did I get it right?)

Curry for us tonight!

Siarie · 11/12/2014 19:05

That's interesting to know Stunt maybe I'll be ok with it then. I've got a "slipped (although they call it something else now" disc low down L5. It doesn't pain me from day to day as I had great physio but I'm expecting it to flare as I get bigger, I was warned it would.

On another note, I've just realised its been ages since I threw up. We must be programmed to forget, when I think of the first trimester (which mine was horrible, any worse and it would have meant IV drips) it doesn't seem so bad now. I have an excellent memory, so I'm hoping this will apply to child birth too haha! Sorry for anyone still feeling rotten, it is horrible. Just reminiscing on the amazing ability our bodies have.

smogs I plan everything around food normally Xmas Grin. Since being pregnant, I can't get out of the habit but most of the time DH ends up eating by himself.

Feeling very sorry for myself today. Had to go for a root canal, she got part way through and I kept feeling sick. It's all on hold now until after baby arrives Xmas Confused

My little one is a proper wriggle bum. I've only felt one 'kick' but I can feel him moving around a lot, mostly later in the day. He gets particularly wriggly when I have anything against my bump, such as my desk or when I perch my book on it Xmas Grin

The top right hand side of my bump has been very tender for a couple of weeks now, and it goes right under my ribs and round to my back. Asked the midwife about it at my appointment on Monday and she thinks it's just where he's laid.

25 weeks today. 15 to go! let's not even think it could be 17!

Hidingthefear · 11/12/2014 19:53

That's funny about wriggling river I've got my samsung tablet rested on the top of bump and he started wriggling a bit. Keep getting the urge to wee even though I'm pretty sure my bladder is empty, could it be that he is kicking my bladder?

Use a pregnancy card, it's like a get out of jail free card. Just tell her how ill you've been feeling and that you'd be better staying home, she'd understand wouldn't she?

cinnamongreyhound · 12/12/2014 10:03

Worse than last time, we're waiting for notes and next appt. 75% chance he'll have to be born at addenbrookes and in special care for up to two weeks, operation within a few days and possible lifelong damage to one or both kidneys. At the moment one is back to normal so looks like the other is 'taking the hit' as she put it and depending on what happens after he's born may have to be removed when he's older. Still a chance it could change but several signs that it's what they think it is. Still normal delivery and not whisked away but he'll have to have a catheter straight away and be closely monitored in scbu.

TinyTear · 12/12/2014 10:09

Aww cinnamon
Looking on the birght side one of the kidneys is back to normal...

And at least you know, so you can be prepared for whatever happens...

Back on 30th dec.

kismac · 12/12/2014 10:56

Aww cinnamon, such a horrible time for you and your family. Keeping everything crossed that things improve.

RiverRocks · 12/12/2014 11:14

Flowers cinnamon. It's not fair, is it? Keeping fingers crossed (all 20 between us both) that things improve by your next appointment.

BananaToast · 12/12/2014 11:15

I'm so sorry cinnamon, I was really hoping for better news for you Flowers

We had our scan this morning and found our we're team blue Smile

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 12/12/2014 11:21

sorry to read that, cinnamon

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 12/12/2014 11:24

my maternity clothes from h&m have arrived.

they're ok. worth the money, anyway. The extra fabric at the front means the leggings are more comfy than supermarket leggings (though I can and will still wear my supermarket ones) the top is wonderfully long, though closer fitting than I usually wear, the extra for the bump is working well there too.

so if you're still looking, these are cheap and ok.

kismac · 12/12/2014 11:31

Congrats Banana.

I'm off to my work xmas lunch. I feel so grumpy. Really wish I could drink, think it'd cheer me up.

smogsville · 12/12/2014 11:34

Cinnamon, thinking of you and sending a hug. Medics will look after your precious baby for you to the best of their ability - nhs is a wonderful thing (and I say that sitting here safe in knowl that this scan is going to be at least 15 mins late). Sending another hug.

Had to leave DD at her nursery this morning after their Christmas show and for some reason she is very sensitive today and wept when I said we were off. Called my Dad in a panic and asked him to hotfoot it there straightaway and now she's fine (Mum unbeknownst to me had booked a highlights appointment!). Sure she will be spoiled rotten this afternoon and absolutely fine when we see her.

Oh yes Banana - congrats.

Kismac - see if they do any nice non-alc drinks not just coke etc. that's sometimes quite cheering.

Scan fine, everything looks fine. And he's defo a boy!

LadyNovember · 12/12/2014 14:12

Sorry it wasn't better news Cinnamon, but it's great that they are already planning how to take care of the little guy. Sending hugs and strength your way xx
