I found the Pregnacare with the oil capsules made me feel sick as a dog. Or was it the price! Blush I'm taking the basic ones. Mw advised taking a vitamin throughout. I said to DH that perhaps me not realising I was pregnant and therefore not taking any folic acid/vits for the first six weeks could have caused the nasal bone being absent? I got a stern telling off for that question!

cuphat · 30/11/2014 13:50

I've said before, but we used a simple wrap sling and the Ergo carrier (with newborn insert) and both were great. However, I've just remembered that as well as DD wanting to be fed every time she went in them it was also too warm for us to be comfortable for much of the summer she was born.

Just realised I'm in the second trimester at 14+2.

Tranquilitybaby · 30/11/2014 14:06

Detective, the Close Caboo is lovely for a stretchy wrap and a Moby is fab if you're confident ish with wrapping baby. I've got a Moby and will probably get a close too as DH will use that more.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 30/11/2014 14:12

Anything, we have an uppababy vista too and love it. When we got them they were only available in independent stores, but now they're in John Lewis every other mum in my town has one. I like to think I set a trend Grin For the first time in my life!!

We also had a moby wrap for dd but I didn't get it til she was about 9 months old so I intend to use it from a lot earlier with this one. I still used mine for dd occasionally even this last summer when she was just 2. Not for long walks, but it was great at weddings to wrap her up so she fell asleep and I could stay socialising til my back gave up!

StopEatingThatMud · 30/11/2014 14:34

pas did you back carry with the moby? I never found any instructions on back carrying that I could get my head round and gave up trying to get an uncooperative DD on my back solo whilst squinting at instructions and getting the wrap on!

I'm loving the look of the close caboo and may treat myself to one after 20w scan Smile

impatienceisavirtue · 30/11/2014 14:35

Hello - I am so unbelievably rubbish at keeping up on here. I come on, read through as much as I can, update... And then you all talk too much for me to keep up ha! Honestly honestly I will try harder Confused

I have a confession. I am a neurotic scan addict. I have now had three private scans because I keep convincing myself something has gone wrong Shock

We had two losses this year, both well before the stage I'm at now, and though I was never nervous like this with previous dc I am a wreck!

All is great with baby though. I am very sure with dates but the baby is growing very quickly - it was bang on size for the first scan, two days bigger than dates for the second and five days for the third - I'm measuring 11+3 instead of 10+5, so nearly out of the first trimester thank goodness.

We have our actual NHS scan on the 10th. I'm not sure whether I'm going to admit I'm a nutter who has already had three :/ and then will be having a gender scan at sixteen weeks.

Had a horrific time with the MS for a while but not puked in days now - waistline is growing accordingly ha!

I had to go to the dentist too a few days ago - haven't got my exemption card and they were fine about it, I didn't have to pay.

As far as slings, I loved stretchy wraps with ds when he was tiny. I think I will be getting another this time round - not going to start shopping until the gender scan, I'm convinced it's another boy!

StopEatingThatMud · 30/11/2014 15:31

impatience I had a m/c in August and had two early NHS scans before my official 12 week one so I wouldn't worry about them thinking you a nutter if you tell them you've had some already. It's a shame you've had to go privately and I'm still amazed more and more by how much care varies around the country.

Glad you're nearly out the first trimester. I've found my nerves have settled little since my 12w scan (now 14w2) and I'm sure I've felt a few little flutters which has helped. Strangely looking forward to regular walloping in the ribs this time round!

Thelovecats · 30/11/2014 15:34

Sling wise, I'm going to go for a hana baby wrap and prob a ring sling for summer newborn. Hana baby is made from bamboo and is good in hotter weather. Moby is quite thick- I used one for both my autumn babies. There are tons more options for older babies (4months plus). My favourites are a connecta and a hop tye...
Our first baby purchase isn't for the baby at all- it's bunk beds because my older 2 will have to share :D

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 30/11/2014 15:37

StopEatingetc Wink No, I didn't back carry with the moby coz I was told it's unsafe to do that with stretchy slings... I think the main fabric could roll down and baby could fall backwards iyswim? I must admit when I ordered it I hadn't realised that so was a bit miffed at first, but it still lasted a good long time.

AnythingNotEverything · 30/11/2014 16:28

All this talk of shopping inspired me ... I've just bought some maternity jumpers and basic tshirts from Gap - 40% off today with the code CYBERGAP. All my maternity wear is summery so jumpers are a must to see me through the winter.

excitedbutsick · 30/11/2014 17:26

My MS also seems to have eased off/gone away, so I'm now hoping that it stays that way. Back to work tomorrow after sick leave so I guess I will find out.

I'm planning to use slings to transport baby as I don't want the faff of getting a pram on and off buses, but I'm not sure if DH will manage with slings. I think we will be looking at prams anyway so that grandparents/aunts and uncles can have that time when we see each other.

As we are currently in a 1 bed flat I was thinking of leaving most of the purchasing until we move in April as we don't have the room to store things currently. We are saving a fair amount each month so that we can afford to go and buy what we need later on. I am wondering if I am being a bit first time naive about leaving most of the purchases so late. Saying that both of our families are buying small things for us already such as sheets/blankets/muslins/vests etc.

I ve managed to dig out some amazing oversized cardies whilst sorting through my mums clothes, some great vest tops too and as she was a size bigger than me they will fit me for a while but cardies will see me through til end.
Not buying big baby things until April time as house on market and don't want to have more stuff to pack up. I will probably buy a few bits once we have 20 week scan.

Chookford · 30/11/2014 19:31

We are moving in April too to a much bigger house so am going to fill it all up with baby stuff! Grin

I won't be buying anything until after 20 week scan either, I have a pram car seat Moses basket sling etc from dd but they have been stored in our loft so am praying they are all ok up there otherwise will have to replace the lot which we havent budgeted for which will be a pain in the bum! But then again I do love pram shopping so maybe it would do me a favour of they are not in good nick anymore!!

Zaccheryquack · 30/11/2014 19:37

I had a Moby when my daughter was tiny and then a Manduca, which I absolutely loved as she got a bit bigger. i have a tula toddler carrier now but must admit have not carried her much recently as don't love carrying her on my back and too big for the front now. I think I carried her on my front a good 6 months longer than it is recommended anyway (loved the snuggles!). Was thinking of trying a ring sling this time as Moby was great but I did not feel that confident tying it when out and about and thought it might be quicker and easier when I am chasing a toddler too. I was looking into carriers for hot weather as my last baby was a June baby too and Connecta do a solar weave one that is supposed to be good when it is hot….

www.connectababycarrier.com/product-category/solarweave-connecta/

Must admit prefer other carriers to the connecta myself but a lot of people love them!

TheDetective · 30/11/2014 19:42

I'm not moving ever thanks to negative equity so I'm filling up all the empty ikea boxes I have with STUFF!

Today I bought some plain white vests in up to 9lb. I got a pack of 3 with short sleeves, and a pack of 3 sleeveless. Fuck knows what the weather will be doing in Jun/July, so I thought I'd get both!

I've got a discount code for Next, along with a gift voucher, so I've got my shopping basket full with some cute bright sleepsuits. I love them, and they won't be available after the sales, so I'm getting them now. It won't cost me anything with the code and the voucher. Yay!

Also bought a 3-6 month light weight all in one coat. It's fleecy, and thin. I had the same one with DS2, and loved it. Asda still sell it, so I got another one in the right size for winter. I still have DS2's first size one. But I don't think I'll need one in the summer Grin. I loved it because it was so light weight. I have sweaty kids. They need thin layers only! This one is perfect for them. :)

Right, no more purchases now until January! Grin. My card is going to have flames on it at this rate.

I'm an over organised person, I apologise.

Perpetual and Sunbathing I am the same as your DH's over big purchases. I'm okay with the smaller things, but oh my word I drive DH mental with my indecisiveness and planning of big items/special occasions. Grin Blush

TheDetective · 30/11/2014 19:55

I'm definitely going to have to get to a sling meet!

I need something light weight, and very speedy. I liked wrapping, but it did take a while.

Anyone else got or going to have a 2 yr 7 month gap? I'm hoping to have a combination of the following: my bj cmgt for the toddler (and baby when it gets to sitting up age). Sling for baby. That's for longer trips out. Then for short trips out the car, baby in car seat on a pram chassis (will probably pick one up second hand, just the frame) and toddler walking. If he isn't good he isn't! then I'll try a buggy board. I can't sling him any more as I haven't mastered back carries. And he's 2. He can fuck off being on my front, he's a heffalump!

DH only works 2.5 days, so he can come out with me if I need both in the pram. I've got a Maclaren Quest which lives at MIL's right now too. So we'll have lots of choice in mode of transport! My car boot can accommodate 2 pushchairs too. So I'm hoping I'll be okay. We don't go far. Baby groups, shops, town, park, swimming.

I CBA with a double. It seems like a lot of hassle right now. But we'll see! Grin

Tryingreallyhard84 · 30/11/2014 20:05

the detective sniggrred at the "I have sweaty kids" remark. Grin I was a hot child so wonder if that will follow.

I have made note of all the various sling names mentioned. Thanks ladies. Another thing I'd not given much thought to. It will give me something to research.

Still feeling okay so took advantage with another productive day. Boring week at work to come but two Christmas night's out on Thursday and Fri. One is work so meh but the other is with good friends so Dh is dying to tell them. We won't have had our scan though so I'm unsure. Confused

Zaccheryquack · 30/11/2014 20:06

DD will be 3. Really don't want a double. They are WIDE and I don't have the coordination to steer them through the shops. Hoping she will be happy to wander more by then…..

Tranquilitybaby · 30/11/2014 20:15

Ooh detective is the next code a general one?

Deutschybaby · 30/11/2014 20:18

Useful sling talk, I'm not going to think about it for a while but I'll note down these names. I had a baby bjorn standard one for DD from 2 months until 7 months and it was an absolute lifesaver - she hated her pram and I just couldn't relax unless she was super close. But all of these different ones are like a whole new sling-tastic world!

TheDetective · 30/11/2014 20:19

Zacchery I'm just thinking of not leaving the house if I find I need a double Grin.

Seriously though, I probably won't need one due to the fact I can drag DH with me if I really want both in a pram!

Trying DH is ridiculously sweaty at night. It's a fecking joke! DS1 is sweaty at night too, but nothing like DH (different dads thank fuck, or I'd wonder!). DS2 is just like his dad Hmm.

I had to take him out in winter when he was newborn, even in the snow. He wore a vest (short sleeve), babygrow, then either a cardi, thin hat, with a blanket over, or a thin all in one coat and hat (no blanket). The looks I got were awful, but he would be sweating in those, I'd take him out the pram and he'd be soaking. He's not changed. He hardly wears clothes in the house - a vest is enough. Joggers and shirt with no vest if it is particularly cool!

I've just been up to him crying, he was sweating, all he had on under his 1 tog sleeping bag was a long sleeved pj top. I've had to remove it! Crazy kid!

impatienceisavirtue · 30/11/2014 20:23

stopeatingthatmud I'm sorry to hear you had a mc too Thanks

It does seem to rob something from subsequent pregnancies, I don't know how to explain it. It makes it hard to just enjoy it.

I think that my bits may actually be on fire. It's just come on over the course of the day. No reason for it I can think of. I do get thrush when I'm pregnant (and had to have amoxycillin at the dentist) but it doesn't look like thrush at all. I'm red and inflamed and in the bath to try and ease it. What on earth is it?!

TheDetective · 30/11/2014 20:23

Tranquility, it's not, it's a new account code for £20 off £50 spend.

I can refer you as a friend though, if you haven't shopped online for 6 months (or DP/H hasn't, you can use their name!) then you can get the code. Takes a day or so to come through. I have to declare I also get a £20 off for referring a friend if they use the code!

I keep getting family members to get me codes. I rarely pay full price if I'm ordering online! Blush
