zacc fab news re scan!!

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 29/11/2014 22:21

10+5 and now feeling more human, just tiredness but I ll take that over nausea any day. Not bought anything, going to Toys r us next week for OH little girl, but going to snoop at pram shop nearby whilst there. I am being greedy and getting two prams, one a practical one that will fit in boot of car. The other (my OH is horrified) is going to be a classic Silver Cross pram, it was a promise to my Mum before she died that I would get one if I ever had children,as if she was alive, she would buy it and push her Grandchild another the village. I know it is excessive.

Slight nearly heated convo with OH today regarding gender scan, I want to book a scan at private place to find out gender before the NHS 20 weeks one, he said if I can wait 17 weeks, surely 3 more weeks isn't long. So I told him I would go alone and say nothing to him and he could wait the 3 weeks to find out..... He wasn't keen on the extra wait.

Tranquilitybaby · 29/11/2014 22:25

Ah very nice, I used to love M&P prams. What a bargain. I'll have to have a look at what they do now, I fancy a Bugaboo Buffalo but they're such a lot of money.

AnythingNotEverything · 29/11/2014 22:40

A lot of ladies on my other antenatal/postnatal thread really rate the M&P Sola.

We have an Uppababy Vista and I love it. We'll get the bits to convert it to a double I think.

My tip with prams is always to check the basket size. Little is more annoying than a tiny pram basket in my opinion Wink

Deutschybaby · 29/11/2014 23:27

elizabeth my mum bought a big new silver cross before DD was born! It's beautiful, but it cost more than my first car! (Wasn't long ago either!) I was always too embarrassed to push it around but my mum loved it, and people were always stopping us to comment (on the pram, not on DD Hmm )

I think this time I might be brave enough to push it though..the suspension is amazing! My mum got DD a children's one last year - it's huge, I reckon it could fit a baby comfortably for the first year.

I'm looking forward to getting a nice snazzy new pram this time. Last time we had a big bulky silver cross sleepover and it wasn't very practical, but was a gift so I was just grateful for it!

I'm also not planning on buying anything for a while. But that hasn't stopped me looking online all the time at what I fancy Wink xx

Deutschybaby · 29/11/2014 23:39

(Above post makes it sound like I'm sponsored by silver cross, I'm not, I promise!!)

PerpetualStudent · 30/11/2014 08:25

You ladies are so organised! Im still reeling from moving house so think I'll wait for the dust to settle on that before getting onto baby shopping.
Also my DP loves researching a 'big' purchase in a way that bores the pants off me, so I might set him to doing some pram/cot/etc research.

Can I ask if anyone over 12 weeks has stopped taking folic acid? I thought you only had to take it up until then, I've swapped now to vit C & vit D, but seem on forums that some people are/have been advised to take them right through as folic acid is good for other things?
Im not a suppliment taker in general, so for me the less the better (though with my crappy diet these days I can see why they're useful!) I've also heard so many things about folic acid vits increasing nausea that Im quite keen to see if stopping them helps!

Phryn · 30/11/2014 08:36

Impressive planning ladies! I'm not quite there yet mentally in terms of feeling okay to buy things for the baby. Miscarriage does bad things to your head. I don't think I could jinx the pregnancy by buying stuff - I'm just not quite ready - yet. Blush I hope to be soon though - maybe the pragmatics of the sales will help.

I treated myself to a small glass of nice red wine with dinner last night to celebrate being 13 weeks. It was lovely but it seemed to amp up the crazy dreams and sense of disturbed sleep as much as a really heavy nights driving used to! Sad Have I totally lost my tolerance already or is this what even small amounts of alcohol in pregnancy is like Confused. I was planning to have the occasional really nice small glass of wine but am less sure now if it's worth it! Angry

Thelovecats · 30/11/2014 08:36

I stopped in both pregnancies about 13/14 weeks I think. Occasionally took pregnacare after that when I remembered. I did get very anaemic in my last pregnancy though so will make more effort to continue pregnacare this time to try to ward that off.

ots · 30/11/2014 08:47

I'm still taking folic acid (13+1), got about 10 left in the tub. Once they've run out I will probably buy a tub of folic acid+vit d. The way I see it, it can't do any harm to keep taking it.

The only big purchase we need is the pram. Will probably get a travel system as we need a new infant car seat anyway. Not going to do that until about March, unless I see a really good deal before then. After Christmas going to start stocking up on nappies etc too.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/11/2014 08:57

My midwife suggested that I take folic acid all the way through so there can't be anything wrong with it Smile

Tryingreallyhard84 · 30/11/2014 09:05

I love the regional variances we get. My midwife said to stop taking folic acid around 13 weeks. As alisvolat says, I'm sure there's nothing wrong in taking it throughout though. I plan to finish my bottle and see from there.

Last night I sat down and made a list of the things we need. And a budget for them. Seems much better now it is down on paper. We do need quite a few things, but the only expensive thing on the list is the car seat. Everything else ranges from a couple of £ to £35. Will keep getting some things each month. Will have all the main bits sorted by April.

My next job is to find a sling. The wrap I have (Lenny Lamb) is far too big for me now. It was a little big when I got it, but now it's enormous. I need something smaller. Any sling recommendations? I'll probably go along to another sling meet in April once I've finished work to try some. I'm not wanting to spend much though, so might get another LL as they seem quite reasonable at around £30. I've got a mei tai too, but I want a wrap for newborn.

AnythingNotEverything · 30/11/2014 09:14

The caboo close is lovely for a newborn - we have this one.

m.nctshop.co.uk/product/4462

The NCT often has random discounts on the online shop so worth keeping an eye out.

TheDetective · 30/11/2014 09:28

Oooh yes, that looks good! I'm going to enjoy trying the various ones out Grin. I'll make a list of what I've seen that I like!

I'm just a little anxious as it will be the height of summer and I couldn't do it last time, but then DS was 6-9 months in the summer. Maybe a lighter newborn will be easier. I'm just going to have to get something very light weight!

Has anyone else carried through summer? I'm a very hot person, and just found it far too much last time.

BingoBonkers · 30/11/2014 09:52

The Close Caboo is the best. Simple and quick to use. So comfy to wear. No bulky straps or belts.

cuphat · 30/11/2014 09:58

Perpetual, at the time of my last pregnancy the midwife said there had been research to show benefits of taking it throughout pregnancy. I took it throughout, but I take Pregnacare for all the vitamins and minerals anyway. It won't harm, and I'd rather make sure I'm getting everything I need so I'm doing the same again.

StopEatingThatMud · 30/11/2014 10:36

phryn I've braved buying a couple of packs of giant muslins in TK Maxx at the in laws last week as we don't have one locally but that's it for me for a while I think.

I was incredibly lucky to win a Phil & Teds Navigator in a charity raffle last year which I'm still using with 3.5yo DD comfortablty. I'm undecided whether to bother with a doubles kit as it's £100 and she starts school 3 months after I'm due so seems a bit of a waste. Hoping to pinch a maxi cosi car seat off a good friend which fits the P&T's when she's done with it.

I had a very small glass of wine last night too at DP's work do. My first in 10ish weeks since BFP. I slept far better than normal but that could have been more to do with not getting to bed until 1.30am!

StopEatingThatMud · 30/11/2014 10:39

detective I had a Moby wrap with DD and loved it. She was teeny though so I wasn't using it heavily outside the house until the end of summer when it had cooled down a bit. I'm hoping to go for a ring sling this time, as much as I loved my moby, it was a bit of a faff!

AnythingNotEverything · 30/11/2014 10:51

We carried DD a lot this summer, and she was 6-10 months during the warmest months.

Don't they say carrying a baby helped them regulate their temp better?

tori I was still waiting for my glow when I got to 3rd AKA knackered trimester last time! I think glowing is a myth. My nails look good at the moment though which never happens so I shall take that as a small win Hmm

PerpetualStudent · 30/11/2014 12:20

Thanks ladies! Think I will try a week off to see if it effects nausea for me & if not go back to my Sanotagen folic acid/preg vits...
