Congrats chook what a lovely pic! It looks like a proper baby! Let's hope this is the first of many! Smile

cuphat · 12/11/2014 19:13

The books I read last time advised avoiding them from a certain point and I personally wouldn't risk it after what I went though (mastitis and abscess - not bra related but I'd do everything possible to avoid that again i.e. lecithin will be my friend from late pregnancy).

I think the problem is that not many people do have properly fitting bras, especially as size fluctuates so much during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I understand cuphat, and some people are prone to engorgement and therefore the risk of problems - I just wouldn't want anyone to be wearing hideous maternity bras for no reason! I was a 34J by the end last time and really needed my wires back Smile

cuphat · 12/11/2014 19:31

Ha, that's understandable! Smile I'm quite small chested (even when bf) so can get away with it. I think to start off with a few of us on my previous antenatal thread bought these bras from Sainsbury's that you just pull over - they were fab (and cheap!). But probably only suitable up to a certain size. I will say that the Bravado do give a good shape; I think you get what you pay for. They do more attractive designs but the reviews aren't as good.

AnythingNotEverything · 12/11/2014 19:37

You don't get attractive nursing bras in my size. I really ought to check bra sizes before I start a conversation about bras, as it turns out due to size we're in fact talking about entirely different garments! I see mine as structural support, like scaffolding. And at £30 a pop I always get fitted to make sure they're right.

AnythingNotEverything · 12/11/2014 19:46

Oh bugger - did that sound rude cuphat? I was just trying to point out the difference between big boob bra wearers and normal folk.

I'm actually very envious of smaller boobs, especially the pretty bras. I'd love to have thin straps!

I shall put my spade down for fear of digging a hole so deep I can't climb out Grin

cuphat · 12/11/2014 19:50

No, not at all! I can't even imagine what 34J looks like (I was a 34D at my very largest)!

twinkles11 · 12/11/2014 19:59

marking place :) due 9th june after 18months ttc :D
Hope you are all feeling fab xx

AnythingNotEverything · 12/11/2014 20:08

Congrats twinkles!

Cuphat - bigger than baby's head Shock

ememsmum · 12/11/2014 20:27

Yay twinkles

I have a really comfy stretchy sports-type nursing bra that I loved, however it made my back really really itchy for months. I don't do well with lots of elastic (rubber). Maybe it was cheap for a reason? Anyway am put off stretchy crop top style bras due to this experience, altho I think the Bravado one isn't that stretchy? Must check it out next time I'm in JL.

JennyOfOldstones · 12/11/2014 20:31

Welcome and congrats twinkles I was TTC for 12 months it feels like a miracle! Have you had any scans yet?

FreeWee · 12/11/2014 20:35

That's interesting ememsmum. My maternity nursing bras made my back itch too. Wonder why?

Thelovecats · 12/11/2014 20:36

This blog www.stackdd.com is quite good for info about big bras, and it has some reviews of nursing bras too. The bravado essential embrace was only released last year but I have high hopes. It goes up to a J cup anything :) here, though it's def not pretty!

I'm another one that wore underwire all the way through pregnancy, but not for the first few months of feeding. After that I converted underwired bras. I have never had mastitis from an underwired bra, but I have from nursing bras providing inadequate support...

cuphat · 12/11/2014 20:43

Shock Anything

Emem, there is no rubber/elastic on the bravado bras. They are a bit stretchy as they mould to your size but they're not crop top style - they do up properly at the back. I haven't tried any others to compare them to but I haven't had any itchiness.

Congratulations twinkles!

cuphat · 12/11/2014 20:47

Interesting you say that, lovecats, as I had to go braless for over a month after my abscess (due to the pain) yet I never had mastitis again. Mine was not bra related though.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 12/11/2014 20:49

Oh I am still wearing my nursing bras (M&S) from last time round [embarrassed]. Went back to my previous 28E underwire ones for a while but they were always sore after a day's wearing. Back to feeding bras pretty much as soon as I found out I was pg this time as I was so sore.

Anyone else just wishing the days and weeks away til mat leave? I am really not enjoying work now. I was in a miserable job during my last pg /may leave and them refusing my request to go part time was my perfect get out. I thought my current job was my dream job but in the end I have decided I am not in the right career. I can't go back to it again after this one. What the hell am I going to do to earn pennies (not to mention pension)??!!!

cuphat · 12/11/2014 20:54

And again, probably because I don't need that much support Grin .

Kyz · 12/11/2014 21:01

Evening all,

welcome and contrats to the newbies Grin

quick question - are anyone elses boobs really itchy? mine are driving me nuts Blush

oh no forty that doesn't sound fun at all, hope you feel better soon!

pas i've had a few vivid treams but no really weird ones yet, just ones that have felt ever so real. Last time I had some really, really bizzare ones!

they look lovely Tori

I'm so sorry gr33dy :( please take care of yourself

sparkle glad your booking in went well :)

That sound positive sunbathing my symptoms eased off around 10/11 weeks, it'll be the placenta taking over I think :) Now I just have the odd bit of eugh when I smell something I don't like or when I haven't eaten for too long, I don't have much of an appetite but my body reminds me to eat by making me feel yucky. Oh and very itchy boobs. Grr! Am also pretty bloated looking. Veiny boobs too, just thought of it as someone else mentioned it. Look like a road map, yay

good luck with your sisters cake jazzy and I hope she has a lovely day! How are you getting on with it?

I could really do with not burying my head in the sand, I need some new bras, and some new clothes actually. I'm already feeling very uncomfortable most of the time and it's no fun added on top of the tiredness and bloating. I much prefer underwired ones for now but from experience last time they'll be rubbing and be too painful to stick with. Last time BF didn't go so well for us but I still ended up in the pull over your head type bras, very comfy but I don't feel supported in them really. They are ok to wear at night time.

croon i'm glad your booking in went well :)

fab pics chook so pleased all went well :)

Who is next for their 12 week scan, is it you jazzy?

Zaccheryquack · 12/11/2014 21:02

Gr33dy so sorry to hear that you have my miscarried. It is a really sad time I know.

Interesting about bras. Am wandering around feeling vaguely guilty popping out of my usual underwires as have not got round to sorting out new ones. So different to the last pregnancy. Think I was in m&s shortly after my bfp then!!

Pas lovely that I have been in your random dream! Can't believe you put me in a tax office though. Next time I would like to be on an exotic beach or doing something exciting Smile

Deutschybaby · 12/11/2014 21:12

Hi everyone,
I'm feeling really guilty. I was really grumpy with dd earlier on (she's 4) and now I really want to go and wake her up to say sorry. I can't stop thinking about it!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 12/11/2014 21:14

I have had some blood when I wiped tonight. Only a bit, definitely red. No cramps or anything. I am panicking. I never had anything like this last pregnancy, I've never had a miscarriage and until now have been totally complacent about this pregnancy.
What do I do? Will they scan me?
Can anyone give me some positive stories please?

AnythingNotEverything · 12/11/2014 21:19

Lovecat thanks for that link - all the ones is seen only did large backs in large cups. I had some decent Anita ones last time.

I had a crop top style over the head bravado bra. It was great (if too big in the back to allow for huge cup requirements). I wouldn't leave the house in it though.

Thelovecats · 12/11/2014 21:23

Guybrush I'm sure it must be scary, but there are other reasons for bleeding in pregnancy, especially with no cramps. My friend has huge gushes of red blood- she went to a&e with a towel because there was so much- and her baby was fine. Sending hugs your way.

Anything, I know about the small back/large cup problem- I was 30J bf last time :)
