Guy, I had pink spotting when I was pregnant with DD, can't remember exactly when now but around 6/7/8 weeks. The midwife said it would have been implantation bleeding (baby burrowing deeper).

Gingerbread, I'm taking Pregnacare. It covers me for everything then. I'm vegetarian, took them throughout my last pregnancy and my iron levels were fine throughout.

Fingers crossed for everyone.

gingerbreadmam · 06/11/2014 10:45

oh and just to add when i spoke to one of the midwifes they also told me spotting / bleedinf can be to do with the placenta forming which i think is at 8 weeks.

thanks for the vitamin advice think ill step mine up then to at least vitamin d or may take a look at pregnacare. does pregnacare have folic acid in it does anyone know? just i am on the 5mg(?) dose due to bmi. thanks.

gingerbreadmam · 06/11/2014 10:47

oops ignore me jus googled pregnacare and can see they do have folic acid in them.

Chookford · 06/11/2014 10:48

Thinking of all you ladies having a worrying time... hope everything is just fine

Ginger good luck with the scan today.

I'm just taking folic acid. I probably should be taking vit d as I'm still bf (only once a day now and prob not for much longer). I like to think we're outside enough to get something from the sun. I can't bear the constipating effects of iron supplements so we're just eating more leafy green veg for now. Must try more red meat too but I want it rare! Grrrrrr. I don't really believe in vitamins tbh. I think if you have a healthy and varied diet then they aren't really necessary. And they're bloody expensive. I'll probably feel guilty and buy a multivitamin when I get to my second trimester and then have a couple a week to try limit the dreaded constipation.

I remember reading in my last pregnancy that it's easier to maintain your iron levels than improve them, so get working on keeping them up! As MrsE proves, low iron makes you feel really rotten.

Big hugs to everyone worrying. Fingers tightly crossed.

My booking app is tomorrow. Still worried I've made it all up. Might stick an IC in my wee sample before I go Smile

ahh thats useful to know, well if they cover all bases i may just get some of those.

I know what you mean about healthy and varied diet, mine's probably not the healthiest at the moment though. Food aversions a plenty apart from when im starved which usually results in me eating white stodgey full of carbs stuff. Although i have taken a massive liking to kiwi fruits and satsumas. Laid in bed eating a satsuma last night and this morning in fact so that is a pleasant turn of events. Even treat myself to a salad box for lunch the other day! healthy baby ha!

AnythingNotEverything · 06/11/2014 11:19

The baby takes what it needs from your stores though (I think folic acid is different), so the vitamins are to keep you fit and healthy during pregnancy, not the baby IYSWIM. Baby will take what baby needs!

Don't worry about a few weeks of rubbish food. Once your placenta takes over (HG aside) your food aversions ought to lessen and allow you to eat a wider variety.

Thelovecats · 06/11/2014 11:21

Fingers crossed for ladies going for scans today- thinking of you

Vitamins wide, only folic acid at the mo, but buying some vit d and calcium today. Was bf dd for 2 years and literally just stopped before I found out I was pregnant so I'm probably completely deficient. Am almost certainly anaemic, but iron makes my digestion go wonky at the best of times, and I don't need to add to that at the moment!

cuphat · 06/11/2014 11:22

Anything, I'm still bf but we were told by the health visitor that hardly any vitamin d gets into the breast milk and you should be giving breastfed babies vitamins containing vitamin D from 6 months. We were also told it's also really hard to get enough vitamin D from food and we don't get enough sun in this country to make the vitamin D we require throughout the year. We give DD daily vitamins as advised.

fortywinx · 06/11/2014 11:26

envious I feel your BMI pain. I'm a size 12 and my BMI had shot up to 27 at my booking in appointment! But then not many of my size 12 trousers are fitting at the moment as I've had a mini bump since about 7 weeks =/. Been wearing my "too-big-normally-falling-down" size 14 jeans and stretchy lycra jeggings (can't even manage my stretch denim type jeggings as they are too tight :( ).

I don't feel like I've been eating any more unhealthily than normal (and had a week where I ate barely anything as I was so sick), and doing the normal level of exercise that I would do. I did notice that the prune juice/prunes I've been eating on GPs advice are 48% of my RDA of sugar though!

I really wouldn't worry unless the Midwife told you to diet, it's not the best time to start depriving your body of calories, although obviously, eating healthy and not living of chocolate, doughnuts and McDonalds is also a good idea!

fortywinx · 06/11/2014 11:28

I also forgot to say that our dog slept the whole night on our bed last night XD Even when invited up for snuggles he normally gets down by himself and goes back into his own bed, but he did not enjoy the fireworks going off all evening. Not the greatest night's sleep for me, when I'm already feeling fairly exhausted most of the time anyway.

Tranquilitybaby · 06/11/2014 11:35

I'm taking 5mg of folic acid and Sanatogen Mother to be x

AnythingNotEverything · 06/11/2014 11:57

Cuphat - DD gets vit d supplements as she's never really had any formula, but I thought bf mums were advised to take it too? I'm prob deficient. Don't think they had folic acid plus vit d tablets when I bought mine.

Glenpip77 · 06/11/2014 12:23

Opps - sorry that was supposed to go as a PM....bloody phone (and user)!

cuphat · 06/11/2014 12:27

Our health visitor didn't mention anything about supplements for breastfeeding mums but I've taken Pregnacare since ttc DD, throughout pregnancy and have carried on taking it while breastfeeding as my usual pre-pregnancy vitamins contain too high a dose of some vitamins. So I've been taking it for over two years so far without stopping! I have a relatively good diet but I'd rather make sure I'm not deficient in anything.

Gr33dyeggs · 06/11/2014 12:36

GuyBrush - I wasnt fully taking in what MW said but she mentioned placenta implantation and the residual fertilised egg. Somehow this could produce some bleeding. I definitely told her I was 10 weeks.

Hope the scan is positive gingerbread!

Glenpip77 · 06/11/2014 12:40

Just caught up after a bust couple of days at work....its amazing how fast this thread moves.

So pleased to hear your good news Mrs J and Kyz (beautiful pic)

Thinking of you both gr33dy & Phryn, these 1st 12 weeks are such a worrying time, fingers crossed its just normal pregnancy niggles keeping you on your toes.

I'm also in the category of symptoms disappearing (well aside from having a huge appetite), which is slight nerve-wracking at it was at this point things went pear shaped last time. I've got an early scan tomorrow so fingers crossed that will put my mind at rest...and hubby's as he is convinced it's twins!

On the vitamin I was told by my midwife yester only to worry about Folic Acid and Vit D

htf2 · 06/11/2014 12:54

MrsK re moan I don't blame you - I would be fuming and saying lots of rude things about double standards! Hope everyone's scans go well, and no more concerning symptoms for gr33dy and phryn. I wish my scan wasn't still 1.5 weeks away.

Question from a first timer - I had my midwife appointment last Friday , how long should I wait to hear about my blood tests? If I think they have forgotten me I will phone but don't know how long to wait. Not feeling very patient with anything atm!

Chookford · 06/11/2014 13:04

htf2 I had my midwife appt last friday too and have not had the results of my blood tests, she did say to me they can sometimes take a couple of weeks to come back.

Anything.... I have found that different brands will give me or not constipation. Pregnacare is a no no but sanatogen is fine.... I can't say why???

And guess what! I got nominated for an mn secret Santa! Grin I'm bewildered and delighted all at the same time!
