Just had a chat with Lucy5 and we decided that the old thread was getting too long and taking forever to load so here's a new one for all of us.

Hope everyone's well, nothing to report from me, everything's going smoothly still so far.

Not long now until we get the first of the birth announcements!!

Morning! Is anyone else's heartburn getting worse? Was awake for hours last night propped up on 4 pillows cos every time I tried to lie down could taste sick (Sorry, i know it's early for yucky talk!) I've tried Gaviscon tablets, but they didn't seem to make much difference

judemum · 06/10/2006 09:10

Magnolia- can you give some hints as to which of these pregnant lovelies you are? Have bought mag and read article but still no idea which one you are. 'Spose I could scrutinse the pictures again tonight for sight of said nipple, but just in case there's more than one peeping nipple, can you enlighten me??!!

Devongirl · 06/10/2006 09:22

Hello everyone - I don't know if it is the weather but I am feeling really blue today. Also might be the pain in my hands which has suddenly started over the past few nights - googling it sounds like it is normal but I feel like I have arthritis and it's getting me down. Anyone else suffering from that? Also from back pain and sudden groin cramps. I can't stop crying which is particularly annoying as I am at work.

judemum · 06/10/2006 09:37

Hi Devongirl, sorry to hear you're having a bad day. What does google say the hand pains are caused by? Is there anything you can take to alleviate it? If you're feeling weepy why don;t you take the day off sick and go and cheer yourself up with a friend?? If you can;'t do that, then maybe a BIG BAR of chocolate would help??

Eliboo · 06/10/2006 09:39

Milo and babies on Sunday: date. Tonight, we're supposed to be in a dodgy hotel near Weston-super-Mare from whence we visit my lovely but mad uncle and some friends, but will think of you all Milo-ing away...

Jabber, so glad you enjoyed the scan! In my experience, dh's are a step behind in baby appreciation, especially at this stage - mine still talks about 'when we have two children' while I am quite clear we already have (esp. at 3am).

Judemum, look for the tattoo...

Eliboo · 06/10/2006 09:42

Devongirl, Milo and hugs for you....I wonder if your hands hurting is carpal tunnel? I've had a touch of it this pregnancy, and really really thought it was arthritis but it wasn't. And I saw my BF go through her pregnancy with really painful hands due to CT. Try raising them when you can, avoid repetitive strain (tricky if your work involves typing), sometimes cold packs help, but in any case...just know that hand pain is very very common in pregnancy and is probably due to swelling tissues pressing on nerves. If its really crap, try paracetamol?

Eliboo · 06/10/2006 09:45

Gloria, yes - and I've been on Zantac and four pillows since about 16 weeks. Mine is so bad now that OB is looking into heavier medication for me, but if I can manage with Zantac I will - Gaviscon, however, does absolutely nothing for me any more! You can get Zantac over the counter, its perfectly safe in pregnancy: try taking two tablets after supper/before bed (maximum of six per 24 hours according to OB) or you might only need one.
Oh, the other tip from OB that worked for me was to avoid drinking anything from about 9pm onwards...or earlier, if you can bear it. Fluids reflux much worse than solids, on the whole.

Devongirl · 06/10/2006 10:04

Hi Judemum and Eliboo - thanks for the sympathy - this is what I read on 'whattoexpect.com'

What it is: Numbness, a "pins-and-needles" sensation, or aching in the hands and wrists, especially noticeable at night.

What causes it: Pregnancy swelling puts pressure on a key nerve in the wrists and causes the same aching and tingling symptoms most often associated with ergonomic strain and repetitive motion. (Of course, if you?re pregnant and having ergonomic strain or doing repetitive motion, you?re twice as likely to experience it.)

What you need to know about it: If you?re feeling these symptoms more at night, it's because the fluids that accumulate in the lower part of your body during the day are redistributed elsewhere, including your hands, when you lie down. (Kind of reverse gravity.) And of course, if you?ve been at a computer all day long, nighttime leaves your carpal nerve with a double whammy. Luckily, though, this symptom should disappear after delivery as your swelling diminishes.

What to do about it:
If you work at a computer, or do any other activity that requires repetitive motion, like playing the piano or filing, take frequent hand-stretching breaks. If typing, type gently, making sure your wrists are straight and your elbows are higher than your hands.
Try not to sleep on your hands.
Use a pillow to prop up your arms at night.
Shake your hands and wrists out frequently. At night, you can hang your hand over the side of the bed and shake it.
It may help to limit or avoid caffeine and stay away from tobacco (which you should definitely be doing, anyway).
If you?re in a lot of pain, try a wrist brace. Ask your practitioner which kind to buy.
Acupuncture might help ? ask your practitioner for a recommendation.

Unfortunately I do use a computer all day, and it is definitely worse at night (and for a few hours in the morning), but I can live with it. Just looking forward to the weekend now. And I wish I hadn't been so reckless in promising myself not to eat chocolate for a bit as I feel so fat! Boohoo for me. Also I work for myself so if I go home I don't get paid. Only 3 weeks to go and I'll be working from home though which will make a HUGE difference.

I feel like swimming or at least floating in water would help so I will go after work this evening

Sorry about massive post
x

Gloria42 · 06/10/2006 10:16

Thanks Eliboo, will def try not to drink after 9 tonight and give that a shot.
BTW a girl I know went in to be induced on Wednesday 2pm (due Tuesday but pre-eclampsia worsening), STILL NOTHING HAPPENING!!!!!!! Is this normal??

DiamondsAreForever · 06/10/2006 10:49

Hi everyone- this is such a busy thread! Roll on maternity leave so I have time to catch up and get talking before the conversation changes topic!
Firstly, can I also agree wholeheartedly on tea-cakes... I have been addicted to them since being pg with dd- they aren't particularly good for you but who cares? We have all Spring to wear big clothes and also take advantange of half price gym memberships in January!
Devongirl, hope you're feeling better- I am also working full time and am shattered. There are days where I have been working happily at my desk then burst into tears for no apparent reason- just filled with sadness! I blame it all on massive rushes of hormones and find that a double decker usually does the trick. If all fails, I'll try a double mily way too just to be on the safe side.
Whereabouts are you mums?

DiamondsAreForever · 06/10/2006 10:50

sorry, I meant milky way- all this talk of Milo (I'm going to have to try it now!) has got my spelling all wrong!

DiamondsAreForever · 06/10/2006 10:52

Gloria- I was induced with my dd last July- induced 9am Monday and didn't have dd until Wednesday evening- ended up going to 10cm then dd got stuck so had an emc.
But that's a whole different and really gruesome story!

judemum · 06/10/2006 10:56

Hi Diamonds, I'm in Leeds and also working full time. Not feeling too bad yet, but not leaving work until 1st Dec (2 weeks before due date) so no doubt will start feeling completely knackered in a few weeks. DS also decided to sleep badly last few nights! I suspect most of you guys are based down in London- I moved up a couple of years ago after working for 6-7 years in London. Most of my dearest friends (also now having babies) are still in London, I miss them a lot, but glad am here as lots of countryside and fresh air!

judemum · 06/10/2006 10:58

PS also agree re. teacakes although I prefer the biscuity/marshmallowy ones. However have discovered some of them do not have blob of jam on biscuit (M&S) which really put me in a bad mood last week, having bought pack of 12.

weirdbird · 06/10/2006 11:38

So have Milo and Tea Cakes become the official food & drink of this thread

Healthy eating went out the window this morning, its cold and wet and horrible outside, got home and ate a chocolate bar and 2 packets of crisps for breakfast rather than my sensible porridge...

Have lots of things I 'should' be doing but all I fancy is curling up on the sofa, oh dear, where has my motivation gone???

MiL is coming round tomorrow and the house looks like a bomb had hit it after me working all week!

lucy5 · 06/10/2006 12:11

Oh I cant get Milo or teacakes here in Spain! I might be able to get milo in Gibraltar but I deffo can't get teacakes, not the currant ones!

So sorry to hear you are feeling low, I felt like that last week and didn't stop crying for 3 days, it's those pesky hormones again.

Eli enjoy the mad Uncle!

Hello to all fellow fatties.

lucy5 · 06/10/2006 12:12

Oh and just another moan, it's still over 30 here most days, I have had enough. I'm to fat to be this hot!

weirdbird · 06/10/2006 12:27

Its the chocolate Tea Cakes all the way, me personal preference are

magnolia1 · 06/10/2006 12:49

Devon, I am sorry you are having a bad day I can sympathise wit the back pain though. Have had really nasty sciatica for 3 weeks now and getting worse

Judemum, I am on page 54

bewilderbeast · 06/10/2006 13:04

Tunnocks caramel wafres and teacakes for me. Yummy. Am stuck at home again with raging cold, ca't see properly, can't hear and definately can't breathe and DP slept in this morning so kicked me out of bed to take him to work grrrrrr.

Devongirl, midwife suggested sleeping with my hands up by my ears to help with carpal tunnel, a bit difficult to accomplish but it does help a bit ith the pain and swelling. Also know all about the overemotional crying thing been doing it all day, and had to keep running off to the loo when at a conference on wednesday cos i felt miserable. Have become incredibly oversensitive too and seem to take everything as an insult at teh moment. the joys of carrying a baby!

jabberwocky · 06/10/2006 13:13

Eliboo, you are so right about the two children thing. I mentioned that to my mother about two weeks ago. Men are very different about the whole thing. I am a bit of women who have husbands that are very "into" their wives pg. I woke up feeling pretty well, but almost immediately got into a bit of a spat with dh and told him I was kind of glad he was home (he's been out of town for a week) but that is was also really nice when he was gone

DG, I had carpal tunnel with ds. It's really awful. If it gets too bad there are braces that you can wear.

And, finally, you lot are making me want to break out my recipe for teacakes with marshmallow icing, which I know would ultimately be a bad thing

lucy5 · 06/10/2006 13:15

Eli, was it you who said that you developed a milk intolerance when preggers? I think i might have, anyone else experienced this?

Eliboo · 06/10/2006 13:38

Not me, Lucy...sounds unpleasant?

Just time to wave as we set off in pouring horrible endless rain down the M4....must be mad...still coughing, and would much rather go to sleep, but beach here we come

One consolation, nice mad uncle we're visiting is VERY good at tea things, cakes included...

Loulou000 · 06/10/2006 13:38

Magnolia, how many weeks are you now? I am 28 and my placenta is still in the way. I have to go back in another 4 weeks but in the meantime am keen to know what might be in store for me...

Weirdbird your DD is too cute letting you nap! I want one like that.

And poor devongirl. The weather doesn't help, does it. I would give myself a temporary reprieve on the chocolate ban if I were you.

No milo on ocado.

magnolia1 · 06/10/2006 13:44

I am 29 weeks and last scan showed stage 4 which is completely covering the cervix. If it was stage 1 or 2 its likely to move but 3 or 4 more likely to not move enough Do you know how much was covering on your last scan?
