My maternity leave starts on 16th January...quite close to the due date and I did think about finishing at Christmas but then realised that January is such a miserable month to be at home in the cold waiting for baby to arrive and i could do with the additional salary in January! I am already counting down the weeks however, bring on Christmas and I will be nearly there...

Bangonthedoor · 19/11/2014 19:21

Yeah I'm really looking forward to it. We're flying with Ryanair which allow you to fly upto 36 weeks but from your 29th week you need a letter from your midwife....as you say I don't know how they'd actually check

purpleteapig · 19/11/2014 19:36

Enjoy your Dublin trip Bang - sounds like a fab mini getaway before baby comes. I'm quite jealous!

Memphisbelly · 19/11/2014 20:22

Bang keep calling and hopefully she will come through, if not when you board just look shocked and say I can't be that big? i am only 20 weeks then look all sad Grin

Just been out I had a mixed grill, was very nice but baby kept bouncing on me making me keep running for toilet thrn I had to keep deep breathing as I got more full....no room for pudding Shock

freneticfox · 19/11/2014 20:44

Welcome pinky and bang!

Got my 28w appointment on Friday, which I assume will be the first time I get measured! I also have my consultant appointment to discuss my ELCS request. Getting nervous now.

Memphisbelly · 19/11/2014 20:49

Frenetic stay calm and maybe think about writing your points you want to get across in case they try the stalling tactics to put you off, you will be fine...remember it is your body and your baby, you have choices. Just remember they will try and put you off so stick to your guns

Bangonthedoor · 19/11/2014 20:52

Ha good thinking memphis! Grin

Im a bit nervous about being away from DD for 2 whole nights Shock but it will be lovely to not worry about the time or if there are loos nearby ....on 2nd thoughts maybe I'll still need a toilet close!

sandulacek · 19/11/2014 21:35

Welcome newbies!

Bang- just tell them what they want to hear if you can't get hold of your mw.

blankfornames · 20/11/2014 06:11

Welcome new folk!
Bang, I'm in the same situation as you, I'll be taking a short flight when I'm 31 weeks, one with Ryanair and one with Aer Lingus. On the sites, they both state that they require written permission from a doc. I don't think it's too much of a big deal. It's for our sake more than theirs I reckon!
Unless I was heavily pregnant as in 36 or 37, I think I'd lie& wear a big heavy coat in the airport if you can't get a hold of anyone before then.

Bangonthedoor · 20/11/2014 07:33

Thanks blank I think I'll just wear a coat like you say and lie if asked!

Welcome pinky! We're getting a busy old thread now! It's going to be so exciting come February and we're all having our babies!

blankfornames · 20/11/2014 08:17

I was just thinking the same myself bang! Lovely to have so many recruits! Time is creeping by very quickly! 27 weeks today! Would be lovely to keep this thread going for even after we have our Beans arrive!

Has anyone noticed any change in their baby's movements? I was getting loads of kicks for a while but the past week it's more wiggles, tickles and soft rolls that I'm feeling. I suppose I have been putting it down to there being a lack of space in there at the moment but as I'm a first timer, I don't know what's normal or not? Anyone else noticed this?

Honeybird · 20/11/2014 08:37

My team here will be splitting up my work between them, so all I'm doing is gradually making notes for them. I'm planning on working right up to 39+1 if I can manage to maximise leave after she has arrived (I suffer at the beginning with all the vomiting but tend to be pretty lucky and feeling well, if knackered, towards the end).
Having spoken to other pregnant ladies here though it varies a lot. Some have cover lined up and take leave really early, one is taking the maximum 11 weeks before due date plus holiday. She was barely showing by the time she left.

Honeybird · 20/11/2014 08:49

Blank movements for me definitely change over time, from occasional sharp little kicks at the beginning right up to big rolling and wiggling movements when the baby is really big. And towards the end they can sometimes line up a perfect kick or two right on the ribs.

Memphisbelly · 20/11/2014 09:24

Blank yes they can't stretch out to properly kick as space becomes limited it is now like someone is washing up in my belly, it ripples with movement.
The thread I was on with ds contined until they were about 3 then the remaining people moved to a secret fb page that is still going so will be nice for it to continue.

i we t to bed 12 hours ago and eventhough I haven'y beem asleep the whole time it has been bliss but now I am lying here dreading to get up as I know my back is going to kill!

PeppermintInfusion · 20/11/2014 09:45

Memphis, mine has has been more like ripples too this past week or so, also think he has changed position though still feel a lot of movement against my cervix which I hope doesn't mean he's breech.

I definitely overdid it yesterday, the BH have subsided but the muscles round my bump and top of thighs feel sore.

Memphisbelly · 20/11/2014 09:57

Peppermint after my fall baby flipped to breach position here, the movenents now are totslly different to when he was head down, heartbunt is worse, he kicks my bladder until I nearly wey myself, and I am panting to try and keep food down as he is so high. Also getting nore elbows and knees digging out the belly, I really hope he flips back too Sad

donkir · 20/11/2014 10:14

I'm 29 weeks today and my movements have completely changed this week. He doesn't feel as active but when he is it's definitely more jab like especially under the ribs or a foot on my bladder that causes me to catch my breath.

PeppermintInfusion · 20/11/2014 11:27

Memphis I think he turned last week when I was swimming, then had really bad stomach pains/unable to eat for a few days. Going to have to get out my exercise ball and see if I can turn him again!

blankfornames · 20/11/2014 12:59

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to know that other's have changed also. I can't say I'm feeling any jabs, movements are very subtle. I'm aware that any changes in movement should be questioned but since everything is new I just can't help but worry that something might be wrong. I haven't really felt anything all morning.
Would a GP be able to tell if everything was ok using a doppler?

I know I'm most likely being dramatic but this is all so new.

sandulacek · 20/11/2014 13:18

Blank I so know how you feel. I was trying to read up about the kicks on the count the kicks website yesterday. I'm just so confused about the change of the pattern when they say you should ring mw or go to the hospital for a check up. I don't seem to get the baby's pattern Hmm. Thankfully LO knew I was worried and started kicking for daddy. But if you ask me about the pattern every day...I just don't know. But on every website they say ring the mw if you are not sure...so confusing!

Grinningcat · 20/11/2014 13:19

Mine is really active this week. Kept me up for most of last night. I'm 26 + 5 weeks today. I read yesterday that between 26-30 weeks is when we feel the most movement as baby still has room to move around and do flips etc and the amneotic fluid has slightly reduced so there is less of a cushioning affect. I have no idea which way baby is, but I think the head is down and to the right. I'd swear I get what feels like a pert little bottom pushing out just to right of my belly button. Almost all of my movements are on my right.

Just booked a private scan for 31 weeks the day before my birthday. DH couldn't make it to the 20 week scan and this way the grandparents can come too. Then we can have lunch afterwards. Looking forward to it Grin

Viperama · 20/11/2014 14:22

Welcome new ladies!

Grinning that sounds like a fab plan for your birthday Smile

Had my latest cervix check yesterday, I've gained 2mm since last appointment. Next check is at 32 weeks day before my bday. Mil will be in town so she'll come along and have a peek as well. Can't wait! Then all going well we'll book to have stitches removed at 36 weeks. My consultant thinks I'll go into labour about 2 weeks after. I'm going to book my baby shower for 37 weeks and not move a muscle for the first week, I'm only having one child and its unheard of back home not to have a shower, I need to welcome this baby properly. Shame as i intended to have the shower at home in Canada with the 5 million women in my family just before Christmas. But baby is good and we're going to make it to the end so that's all that counts really.

Waiting to have my glucose test, so dizzy!

Memphisbelly · 20/11/2014 16:11

Viper have you had to cancel your trip back home or will you still try and make it?

Blank if you are worried call mw, a gp wouldn't check with a doppler around here (yours may be different) but no need to worry when you could get bany checked even if it is to put your mind to rest.

Since pbaby flipped I struggle to identify which part is where and the movements make me wince most of the time. I have really bad anxiety about the need for a section, it is such a fear for me I was having coffee with a friend and burst into tears thinking about it. I really don't know how I can help him flip, my step mum had my half sister by section as she was breach at 30 weeks and she didn't move I am 30 weeks and petrified

PeppermintInfusion · 20/11/2014 16:27

Memphis, we did a bit about some movements that might help turn a breech baby- it was mainly swivelling your hips (Zumba style if you've ever done it) and a standing cat pose, also circling on an exercise ball.

I'm the same, I am scared enough about a natural birth (not the pain so much as tearing etc) but I think a caesarean scares me more, I've had a few teary times myself.

PeppermintInfusion · 20/11/2014 16:27

(Sorry I did those movements at yoga the other week, left that bit out)
