Evening all

Memphis- embrace the grumpiness- i always think it's nice to have a bit of a grump sometimes. Makes me feel better anyway :)

Shopping is done- mothercare came up temps for tankinis and there is a mannequin in mamas and papas that is now naked because it was wearing the only dress in my size

I must must book whooping cough jab- Thanks for the reminder guys

longbottom · 13/11/2014 18:56

Had 24 week midwife today at 25 weeks, all ok, lovely to hear heart beat!
I go off on maternity 4th feb, I'll be 37 weeks. I want longer with the baby after!

longbottom · 13/11/2014 18:58

I'm not having flu jab as had flu last month, need to book in next month for whooping cough jab, not looking forward to it!

thingsarelookingup · 13/11/2014 19:04

Argh the whooping cough vaccine sounds awful. I have a really sore bump this afternoon. Not sure why. It's been ever since one of the kids at work walked in to me when walking backwards like an idiot but he really didn't hit me hard, just a tap. But I'm in pain now hours later. I really hope it goes away and creature has an active night to reassure me everything is ok.

PeppermintInfusion · 13/11/2014 19:09

I'm meant to be getting my flu and whopping cab jabs at the same time, not looking forward to that! Last time I got the flu jab I was really quite sick from it

donkir · 13/11/2014 19:45

28 weeks today and I booked the day off as had a whole day of appointments.

Started with midwife at 9. Whooping cough jab at 10. It wasn't as painful as the flu jab going in but am definitely feeling it now.

10.30 was a visit from the health visitor. My goodness they are nosy. She even did a family tree. It didn't go down well with the oh.

Then had 28 week bloods/lucozade tests. All finished with a consultant appointment. They're happy with me to carry on as normal and don't feel the need to check cervix again even though at 1cm. Still a risk of pre term labour but also a good chance of making it till after Christmas.

Wow sorry for extremely long post. I hope we're all feeling better even if a little grumpy.

Memphisbelly · 13/11/2014 19:57

Donkir that is great regarding the cervix and fact you should make it to at least xmas.
A HV appointment? What was that for? They dont do hv visits here until baby is around 10 days old. A family tree would go down well here dh knows nothing sbout his family apart from one nan after his parents and that all the men have died at latest 42 until his dad.

I ended up having the flu vac as the consultant waded upin saying because of my blood disorder the flu would end up with me on life support so I got them both on same day one in each arm, whooping cough was defo worse but worth it to give baby antibodies.

I have taken my grumpiness out on the baby room and cleared a lot of it and put all the xmas presents under the cot.

Minichuch · 13/11/2014 20:12

Ive got hv as well on my bloody birthday :-( at 28 weeks - dh is taking me out for afternoon tea after so I figure he can deal with hv and I can just nod

donkir · 13/11/2014 20:13

Memphis it's something that they're in the process of rolling out nationwide so not in all areas yet.
She went into quite a lot of detail about our past. If we had happy childhoods ect, she also asked about my support network, how I coped with my eldest when he was born. Even about my relationship with my ex ds dad.
Luckily we passed whatever test she was giving us and now we won't see her till 10 days post delivery.

Memphisbelly · 13/11/2014 20:33

ah thank you for warning in case it comes up.

LittleMissSunshine33 · 13/11/2014 20:53

36 more work days for me!! Yay!

Oh no not looking forward to whooping cough vaccine!

Had a play with the pram tonight so fiddly! Need a bit more practise I think.

People keep telling me I look big for 27 weeks I have been so looking forward to looking pregnant not sure I want to look too big too soon now! Shock

LittleMissSunshine33 · 13/11/2014 21:50

Ladies I have a question-Duvet/blankets vs. grobag for baby to sleep in??

donkir · 13/11/2014 22:11

Littlemiss everyone keeps telling me I look big too but midwife said I'm measuring exact to my dates. It's quite hard to grin and bare it though. People wouldn't comment if I was fat but seem to think it's ok because I'm pregnant.
My vote is sleeping bags. I'm getting the dream Swaddle for the newborn stage. It's less restrictive than normal swaddles but baby still feels secure.

Bangonthedoor · 13/11/2014 22:19

Glad all is well donkir nice to hear from you!

I had a HV appointment when I was pregnant with DD which was 2011/2012 id actually forgotten about that until now. But I do remember her being ever so nosey and assuming I won't be able to look after my baby! I felt very deflated afterwards. She asked about mine and DP's mental health, how much we drink, do I own my house, who's going to help me look after the baby, my childhood and DP's, do we manage our bills ok...it went on and on!

Memphisbelly · 13/11/2014 22:43

Littlemiss duvets are a no no until 12 months old. I will be swaddling then into a gro bag, even the from newborn growbags seem too big for a newborn.

These hv visits seem awful, I had antenatal depression then pnd last time, interogation would make me feel awful. Luckily feeling fine this time round. They have it on system I suffered last time and have said they will visit more if I feel I need it once baby is here but don't want to swamp me. Hoping being a tiny village doctors they probably know all my business anyway Grin

On a seperate note maternity christmas jumpers are rubbish, not sure if a size 16-18 normal will be ok and fit me, christmas isn't christmas without a cheesy jumperGrin

PeppermintInfusion · 13/11/2014 22:50

Memphis I got an Xmas jumper from asda- think they are meant to be v fitted so I got an 18 and it fits my body ok with room for bump, just a bit looser in the arms than it's probably designed to be.

JacktheLab · 14/11/2014 06:31

Oh poor me!!!

I had terrible cramping last night, was getting really worried, but could feel madam moving about, then I'm certain she flipped 180 degrees! I could feel her moving round! Cramps went after that!

Grow bags are fab, we didn't use a duvet until ds was about ten months or so when we're sure he wasn't going to wriggle downwards and suffocate himself.

No hv visit or call for flu or other jags here, might ask after Xmas when I have more time.

GeekyHybrid · 14/11/2014 06:55

Good news! The whooping cough arm has calmed down enough that I managed to lay on that arm / side in the night Grin. Sleep is so much more comfy when you can move about.
As for these HV appointments, I'm glad they're not in this area, I'd be so uncooperative they'd be getting in social before sproglet even arrived. Even worse I might start on my dodgy humor, you know, the whole: HV "where's baby going to sleep?" me "duh, we're soundproofing the cupboard under the stairs". I've got a whole repertoire of flippant answers to stupid questions! Grin Grin

Minichuch · 14/11/2014 07:16

Geeky - that's not dubious humour - my response to where is baby going to sleep has either been well we have an empty drawer or I need a new washing basket so I could double use that - the clothes would work as mattress and covers Grin

Not sure how well hv will take it

Memphisbelly · 14/11/2014 07:28

Jack double check when you can have whooping cough there is only a window when you can have it I know its from 28 weeks but think it may be up to 2 weeks before birth so baby gets immunity so if you get a section esrly the window may be smaller in which to get it done,

Geeky my friend is due in a week and has nothing at all ready from thr loft and has no supplies like nappies yet, not even carseat Shock so I wonder what hv would say about that! I have another friend who refused all hv visits and injections and she was ok. A sense of humour is a good thing and will help you through the early weeks I am sure! Grin

I need to drive today hope I manage it, we need some food in the fridge and zi am going msde being stuck in the house alone

BanglesSpangles · 14/11/2014 07:31

Ha- i think id feel exactly the same about these hv visits- they sound so intrusive! Wonder who they are meant to help?...

Id imagine I would be polite for about three questions and then switch to 'sorry, can I stop you there...why exactly is this any of your business?' While my dh cringes away next to me :D

JacktheLab · 14/11/2014 09:06

I would say my health visitor is lovely, always available to ask stupid questions of, she runs a clinic weekly so you can get baby weighed and she's just available for advice.

Hey get a bad rep but they do have
their uses, I was referred to the doctor with pmd who I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Memphisbelly · 14/11/2014 09:22

i have since moved docs but I went to my last hv crying and asking her to take my baby so I could run away as I was crazy and she told me to buck my ideas up as all new mums felt this way luckily the old male gp saw me leave and took me back in to help me so my hv experience is shit. luckily the ones in village are apparently great the mw was prickley at first but has been amazing recentlly

freneticfox · 14/11/2014 09:38

27 weeks tomorrow! When does the third trimester officially start?

I think cub has had a growth spurt and I'm fairly sure he's trying to headbutt my lungs out through my throat. Had my fast pulse checked out and all was normal, bloods normal etc. Think I'm just an anxious person by nature.

Tips on relaxing as breathing becomes more cumbersome are much appreciated! I know in my right mind that the breathless feeling is normal, but I need to try and remind myself not to panic.

So glad it's Friday.

purpleteapig · 14/11/2014 09:46

Health visitors can vary from absolutely dire to great, but have to say most of mine were crap last time. They were obsessed with babies fitting exactly onto their graphs. One I saw regularly would tut and shake her head when I took my son to be weighed because he was quite little - I got so stressed I had to get my husband to take over the appointments.

Haha Geeky & Mini - I think those responses are perfect! :)
