I've stocked up on some nappies!! I bought the mamia ones, general consensus seems to be that these are better than the more expensive ones. Just hope baby agrees or I'm screwed!

I havent even booked any antenatal classes. Apparently they are very focussed on the birth and labour, and only a little on other things. Since I'm having a section it seems like a waste of time!

Prams being delivered 2nd Feb. Everyone saying oh no you cant have the pram in the house before the baby! Erm yes I can.

My only experience of a baby is when my sister was born 21 years ago!! I was only 7! Jeez, what have we let ourselves in for haha.

Butterpuff · 17/12/2014 16:53

Ah, we are in for NHS antenatal because it was free and then NCT because everyone told me its the best way to meet new friends to help me through the first few months.

I will look up mamia nappies now.

Ah well, the world is going to turn upside down whatever, prepared or not.

Jannywannywoohoo · 17/12/2014 17:30

gudgyx this is a good thread for what to take with you to hospital... Erm well I think so anyway, although I'm in the haven't got a clue camp myself!

Sorry forgot the link doh!

MissRee · 17/12/2014 17:45

Mamia are the Aldi nappies right? If so, they're very good! We never got on with Huggies or Pampers and found Aldi and Sainsburys nappies the best.

I went to one NHS ante-natal class and refused to go back - it was so dumbed down it was almost insulting! Mumsnet was much more useful for me. I didn't do NCT either, if I'd wanted to, I would have gone to baby groups after baby was born as they're generally free or very cheap! I didn't though because I'm a lazy arse Grin

I do feel that the very most important thing that you need to remember is DON'T PANIC! Grin

Gudgyx · 17/12/2014 22:14

I genuinely don't know what I'd do without all u mn ladies just now! Probably wouldn't even have noticed I was pregnant til baby popped out haha

m33r · 17/12/2014 22:18

Another one who knows NOTHING here. Seems we're in good company!

M27J5M · 17/12/2014 22:37

Might be a daft question but do hospitals no longer provide the milk for baby while your in? When I had DS they had glass bottles similar to baby food jars and they had teats that screwed on top, they asked what brand of milk you used and hey presto bottle in hand! Even sent me home with loads a bottles

SurfsUp1 · 17/12/2014 23:27

Bonds do some cool unisex baby stuff.

pinkandstripey · 18/12/2014 08:41

Morning all, realised I haven't checked in in aaaaages :( hope you are all doing ok.

The hospital I had ds in provided formula, little prepare bottles, several brands.

WRT nct, I did a post natal nct class (did some of NHS ante natal) called early days. Was really good, talked a lot about us, and how we feel about everything that has happened. Was 7 of us (plus babies) and 5 of us are still in touch after 18+ months.

pinkandstripey · 18/12/2014 08:43

Sorry, meant to say that nct ante natal seems a bit 'full on' for me. We are doing a refresher ante natal with nct this time but that's more to meet people with kids in our new area ;)

theonewiththenoisychild · 18/12/2014 13:09

M27J5M they dont do the formula anymore in the hospitals in my area or my friend in burtons area. you have to take it with you. you can get starter packs with pre made bottles like they used to provide. its part of a big push to encourage breast feeding so my midwife says. im breast feeding so wont need them but they are available most places

fourmonthstogo · 18/12/2014 13:13

We're the same pink. I thought the full nct course sounded too much, not sure I'd have got dh there and engaged! But we're going to do the refresher next month, hoping to meet a few local people with babies the same age.

Gudgyx · 18/12/2014 15:04

Just realised I only have 8 weeks left until maternity leave!!!!

And am struggling to fit under my desk and sit on my chair now without feeling squashed. Had to have a lie down on the floor earlier to stretch out

MissRee · 18/12/2014 15:10

Our local hospital don't provide formula either! You have to take your own if you plan on bottle feeding - also to do with the breast is best campaign (and probably cost cutting).

Just been out for lunch with one of my bosses - feeling ridiculously bloated and uncomfortable now Confused

M27J5M · 18/12/2014 16:19

I'll have to ask at my next mw app about formula so I know ow whether to take cartons with me or not! Looked through my book from hosp and doesn't mention formula when it tells you what to take in!

persepolis123 · 18/12/2014 17:13

M27J5M I think it can vary by area but your midwife should be able to tell you. They provide it at my local hospital with a choice of different brands.

Car Seat conundrum - So, I saw that Cybex are bringing out a new car seat for 2015, which, when out of the car can lie flat! It has all the good safety features of the current Cybex also. And it comes in some snazzy colours. Anyway, it is expensive but I want it. I also know it isn't officially compatible with the Uppababy Vista 2015 which we have also ordered. (although several websites say you can actually use the Maxi Cosi adaptor and it fits just fine). Now my local baby shop are saying they can't guarantee they will get my car seat order in in time (despite Cybex telling me I can order it). The baby shop is now recommending I get the Maxi Cosi or some other car seat I don't want just because they are the official ones that go on the uppababy chassis. To be honest I don't even want to use my car seat that much on my chassis as the uppababy pram is really nice. Really frustrated by this. (which considering all the crazy going on in the world is a relatively minor problem - nonetheless still annoyed)

How is everyone else doing....I am now in the 3rd trimester......just over 11 weeks to go!! :)

Gudgyx · 19/12/2014 10:50

Can you try another place to get it MGFM? Dont settle for what they're trying to sell you, you've obviously done your homework and know what you want. Contact Cybex direct and ask them if you can buy it straight from them if they've said you can get it in time?

10 weeks on Monday for me! This has absolutely flew in :) bet the last ten weeks drag now.

Butterpuff · 19/12/2014 11:21

Because of Christmas I have just 5 weeks of work left plus the beginning of next week. So much to do still before I can hand over.

Last night DH brought home about 50 muslins, so we have started buying for baby now!

Sorry MGFM I know nothing about car seats at all, but hope you manage to get what you want.

With less than 10 weeks left I am finally starting to feel broody and want to buy some cute little things to play with and make it all real. Am convinced that these last couple of months are going to go super slowly as I am feeling so uncomfortable already the shortness of breath is driving me nuts. I just want to be able to breath properly.

M27J5M · 19/12/2014 11:32

I'm jealous of you all that I leave 10-11weeks left, I still have 13 to go and I'm mega uncomfy etc, don't remember being like this at this stage when preg withDS

Ellizardo · 19/12/2014 12:25

Mgfm where did you preorder your vista 2015 from? (Sounds like a broomstick from Harry potter). I am about to order one too but feeling a bit 'choice overwhelmed' at the moment. We need to buy a car (2nd hand) first before the car seat (!) so a fun used car salesman weekend awaits.good luck with cybex.

M27 - 13 weeks here too and all sorts of annoying ailments (thrush, bump ligament stretching etc). Am trying to zen my way through it with a Christmas carol cd which is surprisingly calming.

How are everyone's festive plans coming along? Domestic goddess that I am (not), have just marzipanned a cake badly but hope the royal icing will cover up the botched job underneath!

Butterpuff · 19/12/2014 13:44

You must be a domestic goddess if you are using royal icing Elliz, non goddesses use bought roll out!

I just realised that while I have now got at least one present for all the close relatives, I have forgotten to buy anything for DH. So some last minute shopping is needed tomorrow.

I'm Hoping to find time to make some biscuits at the weekend. Last year I bought one of lakeland's giant cookie cutters in the sale which I want to try out.

M27J5M · 19/12/2014 14:06

Yay ellizardo Smile another13 weeker Smile yeah I think it's ligament pain that's making me uncomfy ALL the time!! Lol

Just got lotsa wrapping to do and last min things for Crimbo dinner and I'm done! Smile

Gudgyx · 19/12/2014 14:46

All sorted for christmas here! Just waiting on the bump photo shoot pics to be printed off to get them in frames for the granny's xmas'.

So uncomfortable as well at the moment. Bump is getting in the way of everything, I'm walking into doors, banging off walls etc. Hate having clothes over my bump as well, makes me feel very claustophobic. Cant wait to get home and get my sleep bra on, belly out and lay back on the bed.

Decided I'm waiting until my 32 week consultant appointment to decide on whether to have the whooping couch vaccine. I'm wary because I wasnt allowed it as a baby due to my mum being epileptic, I dont know whether it will reactive with any of my other medication, whether it will do more harm than good due my very low immune system. Plus I read somewhere that it doesnt give baby complete immunity anyway! I'm very confused, will wait to get some more clarification.

Also the stitches in the vag I got in June are hurting me :( the two I had in January are fine, just one of the ones I got in June is very stingy. Called my surgeon this morning and he said it may be just that with my body stretching the sutures are irritating the insition, but for my peace of mind to get a nurse/gp to check for infection. I HATE doing that because they always say oh yes its infected, because there is pus coming out, but that is the whole point of the sutures. Keeping the fistulas open so internal infection can get out. Disgusting and TMI but it annoys me. I just want to say 'check the surrounding tissue, dont assume it is infected because of the draining!' Spent many an hour in hospital on unneccessary IV drips that dont do anything because antibiotics dont work on infected fistulae!! ARGH!! They dont listen to me though, what the hell do I know. Irritating how little GPs and practice nurses seem to know about bowel issues :(
