Very nice Gudgy I like the silhouette of you. Well done, not sure I could do it would be too nervous to have the pictures taken, but they are lovely.

Gudgyx · 12/12/2014 12:28

Thats my favourite one butter, theres another one of them but not in silhoette, and its gorgeous but it comes a bit lower down and you can see everything!! Think I'll try get it cropped a bit

Butterpuff · 12/12/2014 12:45

yikes! yep if that is the case then cropping might be the answer.

Lovely photos to keep once you have forgotten pregnancy.

Quick question, I am finally thinking about looking for a travel system. I was wondering between a traditional 4 wheels and a 3 week version. I live in a small town, will do a lot of walking with Baby around and in the town and also on local tow paths probably through filed when visiting parents who live in a village and love countryside walks. So a fair bit of off road as well as in town pushing. I have no idea what the pro's and con's of each might be.

Thanks for any advice.

DurhamRed · 13/12/2014 08:15

the one that is such a lovely name Smile

It's so exciting when you finally pick a name and know its right for the both of you (and baby).

theonewiththenoisychild · 13/12/2014 10:11

thanks. dd isnt keen on it but she will get used to it i think. its number 46 on 2014 boys names so not too popular. my family is huge and me and oh dont like many boys names and between family and friends a lot of names we do both like are taken so its been very hard to choose one. he likes completly different names to me.

M27J5M · 13/12/2014 13:11

Oh gudgy I'll need to get on to laptop late to see your pics, can't see them in app on phone :/

That's lovely theone Smile

3isthemajicnumber · 13/12/2014 17:33

Butter I have had a 3 wheeler and I love it. Much easier to push and turn. You can steer with one hand. They just felt much less clumpy.
Probably someone will come along and tell you about 4 wheelers in a bit.
Best thing to do it try out a few and have a play. John lewis give great advice.
We have I think got a girls name. How exciting but still not sure on boys. I have a Robyn and a Sam. Need one that goes.

theonewiththenoisychild · 13/12/2014 21:17

butter i prefer 3 wheels my first ever 3 wheeler was a urban detour..... hated it. but baby jogger city mini was in all honesty the best pushchair ive ever had and ive had a lot. this time around i have gone for quinny buzz xtra purely because i wanted a rear facing pram this time (or i would have got another baby jogger) it would probably suit your needs aswell. i was brought up in a rural village so got an idea what sort of thing you have in mind. it comes with adaptors for a maxi cosi car seat too. i will be getting one to form a travel system. it has air filled tyres front and back so would be good for off road too aswell as around town. i say all this but as baby elijah isnt here yet i havent tested it yet Smile but the baby jogger city mini is the best ever if you dont need parent facing and it does form a travel system with car seat and adaptors. and its a lot smaller than the quinny to fit in the boot of a car. quinny is quite big folded tbh. sorry no advice with 4 wheels but hth

Butterpuff · 15/12/2014 10:03

Thanks for the comments on three wheelers. theone I will make sure I test drive the city mini and the quinny buzz. Just had a look at them and they look good. Lovely that you have chosen your name, this is all getting rather real and rather close now. Brilliant.

I'm 30 weeks today so its time to start doing some baby shopping at last Smile

M27J5M · 15/12/2014 20:46

M27J5M · 15/12/2014 20:47

Sorry that should have said - hope all you lovely ladies are keeping well

theonewiththenoisychild · 15/12/2014 23:43

butter yeah we thought we would never get there with the name.
and time is going very fast. we have got most of the baby things now but still quite a lot to get. including the car seat. my bedroom looks like a cross between santas grotto and babies r us at the moment

MissRee · 16/12/2014 11:49

We've just bought our travel system and went for the Joie Chrome - its on offer in Mothercare at the moment for £250 for frame, seat, carrycot and car seat. I had a Joie Brisk stroller for DD1 and absolutely loved it so happy to go with another Joie.

I've had 3 and 4 wheelers for DD1 and can honestly say that I didn't find much difference between the two in terms of ease of pushing. The one thing I did find with the 3 wheeler is that if you will be up and down kerbs a lot, it can be a little unstable as you need to rely on one wheel going up/down (unless there's some clever way of doing it that I didn't realise?!).

Unisex bright baby clothes - Next do some nice ones. They're not separated out so look at the boys and girls but some would do for both as they're brights, rather than blues/pinks iykwim?

M27J5M · 16/12/2014 14:17

Oh I'm going up to next later so ill have a wee nosey at they're bright stuff Smile

If you on/off buses a lot then 3wheelers take a bit of getting used to, I always had 4 wheelers for DS but used my brothers 3wheeler (for his DS) in the snow and took me a while to get used tiki fringe it onto the bus as have to try keep the 1 wheel t front balanced!

Gudgyx · 16/12/2014 14:57

Oh MissRee, was that just an instore deal? Just tried to look online, but its still full price there :( liked the look of that one before we got the silver cross 3d monodot

MissRee · 16/12/2014 15:15

Gudgy - the deal is set to run (online and instore) until 1 Jan but at the moment the car seat is out of stock (we got the last one in the country, apparently!) but it looks like you can pre-order here: www.mothercare.com/Joie-Chrome-Pushchair-Travel-System---Jade/psX5158,default,pd.html#q=joie%20chrome

Add the whole lot at £399 and it discounts at the checkout Grin

We went for the Jade but they also do it in Black. Did you know that Joie have released the Chrome Plus now, which you can customise with colour packs? I think Babies R Us have the exclusive on that though.

theonewiththenoisychild · 17/12/2014 11:10

missree i am going for brights this time around as i do find the usual baby pink and blue stuff rather dull. they have some at tesco too but not much

MissRee · 17/12/2014 11:58

I hate all this sickly pink and blue stuff really. I know that well-meaning relatives will buy pink for this one (as they did the last one) but I will be aiming for brighter and more interesting colours.

Must be better for baby to be surrounded by bright colours too? I always assumed that's why baby toys were bright.

Gudgyx · 17/12/2014 14:06

I'm in the minority I think here then, everything I've bought or baby is pink! Had a few things handed down to me from my friend (her daughter is just turned 1) that are quite bright though! But her room will be all pink too!

I need some help! I cant breastfeed due to medication, so how do I know what formula to buy?! And how much of it should I buy? Also, how do I take it to the hospital when I go for the c section? Already made up in bottles? If so, how many bottles?! Or do I make them up in the hospital? Argh!!!

I'm getting nervous now. This time in 11 weeks I will have a baby. And I dont even know how to feed her! I have NO IDEA what I'm doing!!

Also when do get your hospital bag sorted? What will I need to bring in it for a section birth?

I love you all!!

MissRee · 17/12/2014 15:56

We used Cow & Gate formula for DD and got through just over a tub of formula a week for her - have a look at all the brands and read the labels to try and decide which you want to try.

If you mean the ready-made cartons then yes, I would recommend taking them to the hospital rather than faffing around making bottles at the hospital whilst trying to recover from a c-section. Don't make your own bottles up to take though! I think 4-5 cartons per day, if I remember rightly? Your DH/DP can always go and get more if you run out though so don't panic - hospitals usually have a shop on site where you can buy stuff like that.

Don't panic :) None of us know what we're doing first time round, it just all sort of falls into place by trial and error when baby arrives.

I didn't sort my hospital bag until about a week before my due date and then DD was 12 days late! I would recommend you pack comfy pyjamas with loose waistband (buy a size or two too big), big knickers that won't rub on c-section wound, maternity pads (you will still need these and don't buy regular sanitary towels, they need to be proper maternity pads), clothes for baby and comfy clothes for you to come home in. Then there's nappies/cotton wool etc for baby, breast pads in case your boobs are leaking.

Gudgyx · 17/12/2014 16:11

Thanks MissRee - having a panic now realising how little I actually know!!

I didnt even know you could get ready-made cartons of formula! Argh!!

Butterpuff · 17/12/2014 16:28

Oh Gudgy I know exactly how you feel. We are completely and utterly clueless as well. I am hoping that it all falls into place once bump arrives. Also hoping that the antenatal classes we have booked through the NHS and the NCT will help out a bit.

One of my wonderings is around nappies, I would love to buy cloth, but read that you should try different types to see what suits, so do I get a selection now, or buy some disposables for the first few weeks and investigate cloth once bump is here.

Am starting to panic that we haven't bought anything yet and prams etc will have delivery times.

No idea what labour will be like or how to clean a baby......

......its all a big mystery.....but I am very, very much looking forward to it Grin
