Extra special Christmas in your house then fish you must be so excited.

That was the reason for our delay to start with Janny didn't seem much point until we moved (and therefore had room to put stuff) we moved last week but now we are too busy unpacking and getting quotes for new heating system, roof repairs etc. to think about bump.

I sent an email to DH yesterday mentioning that if we are as early as my cousin then theoretically bump could be with us in around 11.5 weeks. His reply was FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK! Better stop at Tesco's and buy some Champagne!

Maybe we should start to take things a bit more seriously. Or maybe surf is right and we are in denial Grin

M27J5M · 27/11/2014 14:25

How have you managed to resist butter? I can't help but look at any stuff anytime I'm in the shops, I've managed not to go daft tho and only buying what we really need

Butterpuff · 27/11/2014 14:29

I suppose not going to the shops has helped. I cant remember the last time I went shopping. Other than a quick supermarket run.

fishfingerSarnies · 27/11/2014 14:49

Totally get the not buying stuff don't think we'd bought anything at this point first time round, I'm lazy and not really into shopping... But no idea how you don't talk about names dh and I talked argued about names before we even decided to get pregnant!

Speaking of names how are people doing, we have 5 strong possibilities just waiting to see what he looks and feels like. Any one picked the name for sure or do people wait to see what suits?

coastergirl · 27/11/2014 14:59

We are struggling with names. The only time we've discussed them properly was on a train journey when we went through the boy's section of a names book, but we tend to have random little chats about them.

I really like Callum and Rose (we don't know whether baby is a boy or a girl) but I'm concerned about the popularity of Rose, and hubby isn't sure about Callum. Not sure when we will ever agree on names! We would find a girl easier to name, there are more girl's names that we like. It's so hard! How does anyone ever choose a name? It's such a big responsibility.

Butterpuff · 27/11/2014 15:23

The responsibility bit is probably what has my DH procrastinating. He hates responsibility scares him rotten Confused

Butterpuff · 27/11/2014 15:24

Sorry meant to say I think both Rose and Callum are lovely. I didn't think Rose was over popular, classic rather than faddy.

fishfingerSarnies · 27/11/2014 15:34

Not sure Rose is that popular as a first name, it's very popular as a middle name but I really quite like it as a first name, callum is nice too.
First time round I really stressed about names, finding one dh and I agree on its funny the name we gave my dd was bottom of my list but she just looked like one the moment I saw her. Hoping that will happen again although dh wont be there so can't really name the baby without dh seeing him.

coastergirl · 27/11/2014 15:39

Thanks ladies Smile

I thought the same about Rose being very popular as a middle name but not so much as a first name. Trying to consider everything-how it goes with our surname, nicknames etc. It is hard! I think we will end up having a shortlist for each and choosing when baby arrives. We want something fairly traditional (neither of us are keen on very trendy or unusual names) but not too popular, so there aren't 10 of them in one class! Just need to get hubby to agree to Callum lol.

It's all so difficult!

Gudgyx · 27/11/2014 15:40

Think we've finally whittled it down to two names - Natasha and Lucia. Only problem with Lucia is that it will get mispronounced ALL the time. We want it as Loo-see-ah not Loo-chee-ah or Lucy-ah.

Think Natasha might be the favourite for the moment though!

coastergirl · 27/11/2014 16:04

I like both of those names but would have the same concerns about Lucia as you. I don't really want to choose a name that my child will constantly have to spell or correct people's pronunciation. Natasha is lovely and I really like Tash as a nickname too.

Butterpuff · 27/11/2014 16:07

Love Natasha Gudgyx pretty, and strong. I worked with a Lucia recently but she was only ever known as Lucy, don't sure anyone knew her real name except HR, a shame, Lucy I like for children, Lucia sounds nice when you grow up.

Names are hard. I might have to go buy a baby name book!

tannyLoo · 27/11/2014 16:15

I'm frightened to share mine, in case people think we're bonkers! I have an Archie and an Augustus, who is known as Gus, so we like them a bit odd...

fishfingerSarnies · 27/11/2014 16:23

Our top 5 in no particular order are

Rufus
Harvey
Idris
Macsen
Broc

We also quite like Hector but it's not yet definitely on "The List"

MGFM · 27/11/2014 16:36

We have only one name picked out. Jacob William. I can't see us changing our mind. We even refer to the bump as Jacob now so it feels very real and I think suits our surname really well.

DurhamRed · 27/11/2014 17:02

We have chosen the name Hettie for our little girl...and just in case the sonographer got the sex completely wrong we have chosen Noah for a boys name.

ZylaB · 27/11/2014 17:12

We're going with Hannah Emily and like MGFM we've started calling the busy Hannah so it's her name now iyswim?

ZylaB · 27/11/2014 17:14
  • the bump not the busy!
DurhamRed · 27/11/2014 17:26

We're the same Zyla we are now calling the bump Hettie, both our families are doing the same too which is really lovely Smile

coastergirl · 27/11/2014 17:40

I love all your names, but especially Hettie, that is so cute.

This is the only doubt I have about not finding out the sex. Choosing a name seems so abstract because we don't know what we're having, and I don't particularly feel like I'm bonding with baby. Not sure how much difference knowing the sex would make though.

This conversation has put me into gear a bit though. I've started writing names down and thinking of middle names, and checking how they flow and that they don't have awful initials etc!

m33r · 27/11/2014 18:29

We have bought LOADS! Blush I just can't help myself. Will be glad to get nursery finished to get it al out away. Shouldn't be long now though.

Names wise, we're going George after my late father in law not the prince. We've had it agreed since we met. I had RAGE when Kate chose it!

24 weeks today! Hurrah!!!!!!!!!

Also agree rose is classic and not faddy! Some great names guys !

tannyLoo · 27/11/2014 18:37

OK, so if it's a girl, we think Margaret, but known as Peggy, after my granny, and if it's a boy Bertram/Bertrand but known as Bertie. Still a work in progress, as we seem to need time to chew over a name, and the baby might really not suit our choices once it's here.

Emilyrose1290 · 27/11/2014 18:46

We have found it so hard to agree on names!! It really is a big responsibility... And it's so dissapointing when you love a name and your OH doesn't agree.
I love Matilda, Beth or Abigail for a girl but my partner wants Beatrice!!! We just can't seem to agree...
I also haven't bought anything yet, mostly because money is very right but also because we don't know if we are having a boy or a girl and i find the unisex stuff a bit boring!!!

fishfingerSarnies · 27/11/2014 19:28

I think I'd be too scared to name the bump incase I got too attached try not to think of it as a baby until it's here if you know what a mean. Also what if the name didn't suit? I was so sure my dd would be called Alba but when I saw her she just wasn't. Ha, names is such a tricky one, sometimes I want to punch my dh for not loving the same name as me! I'm really glad we've found a few we agree on though his least fave is my fave and vice versa. I'm quietly confident though that after him missing 6 months of the pregnancy and the birth I'm going to win any arguments when the day arrives. Ha ha
Loving some of tour names, matilda has always been one of my very favourite names but dh always said no as its his sisters best friends name!
Hettie was on my girl list and Peggy is just fab! George is a classic I like it.

Lifeisabeach · 27/11/2014 19:46

Loving all the name talk, we're not anywhere near deciding. A lot of the common/popular names are children in my DS and DDs classes at school so it sort of feels as though they're already taken, as I associate them with someone else.

I still like Annabel for a girl, and also Imogen. And Alexander for a boy. But just not sure.

I haven't bought anything except the new pram, but have most things stored away from my other DC. After Christmas I'll start getting a few new clothes and other bits though.
