Sorry, should have elaborated on the first bit. I'm a bit grr at it because its MY job!! I dont want someone else to do it!!

DurhamRed · 12/11/2014 11:30

Hi Gudgy I asked my mw exactly this question as some days I feel movement all the time and other days only some movements. My mw said this is normal as baby is still growing and up until 28 weeks we will start to feel baby more often and the kicks will be more regular and more definite. She said that if i did not feel any movement at all I was to phone maternity triage for advice. Otherwise not to worry, if you feel movement all is ok. Hope this helps!

As for work, I understand completely, however from what I can understand employers can arrange maternity cover but that person is only able to xcover your absence and cannot replace you permanently. The govement website regarding maternity info is very good.

Gudgyx · 12/11/2014 11:39

Thanks durham! That is a big help :) shes moved a bit too I think, she's been pretty quiet today, but the few kicks I've had have been at my belly button, she's normally a lot lower down! I'm dreading the counting the kicks bit, I'll be a nervous wreck.

I know they wont replace me permanently, not being big headed but I am too good at my job for someone who doesnt know the business to come in and replace me! My appraisals are always great, never have any even constructive critiscm, and my manager said to me 'please tell me you're coming back after maternity leave, I couldnt do this without you' even though she knows she isnt supposed to say things like that. But its MY job haha. Strange though, I cover all of Scotland in my job, and am obv based here, but the cover will be based in Leeds. Not sure how thats gonna work.

Butterpuff · 12/11/2014 13:09

Gudgy I can go days without noticing bump move, but I assume its noticing rather than he/she not moving as im really busy at the moment so barely notice myself moving.

Are your work getting you involved in choosing your cover at all? I know how you feel, while im not there I don't want to do the work...but its my job! Ive been interviewing today, it will really help that I get to say who will be my replacement.

Gudgyx · 12/11/2014 13:39

No butterpuff she's not asked me to be involved at all. My line manager is very fussy though so I know she will pick someone suited to it, I just dont know how she will. My job is the kind you only really learn how to do by actually doing it. And I dont believe my maternity leave will be anywhere near long enough time to learn it! It takes a special kind of personality haha.

On another note, am slightly worried. People from fb page might remember last week I had very blurry vision in my left eye, so went to opticians and was referred to eye hospital where they said no sign of anything wrong etc. Well I've just had them on the phone saying the doctor wants to see me again and I've to go in first thing tomorrow. Strange.

Jannywannywoohoo · 12/11/2014 14:03

Gudg hope all ok with your eye xx

Gudgyx · 12/11/2014 14:08

Thanks Janny! Its fine now, not blurred anymore, so I have no idea why they want to see me. Maybe just being cautious

theonewiththenoisychild · 12/11/2014 22:19

butterpuff i never usually get on with maternity jeans but i love the skinny jeans i got from asda. at first the legs wernt very skinny but after a couple of washes and going in the dryer they are a fab fit. i ordered in my pre pregnancy size and went for the under bump ones they were only £16 so i brought 2 pairs. i also have the black over bump ones but im not as keen on them even tho they do look fab on and the over bump bit doesnt roll down.

theonewiththenoisychild · 12/11/2014 22:24

sorry forgot to add that up until today a cup of tea was out of the question even the smell made me feel sick. but today ive managed to drink tea without any problems Grin its a small thing but i am pleased

DurhamRed · 13/11/2014 14:24

Hi all, hope everyone is well.

Gudgy hope all went well at the eye hospital today.

Theone its the small things that make all the difference. I'm just hoping my current aversion to chocolate (even the smallest amount makes me sick) will end soon, can't imagine going through Christmas without chocolate!

Lifeisabeach · 13/11/2014 14:50

Durham, good to hear you're feeling a bit better, hope things continue to improve. I kind of wish chocolate made me sick, given the amount of it I'm eating at the moment!

Gudgy, hope the eye appointment went well.

My Baby Jogger City Mini GT arrived today, squeee! I haven't got it out of the box yet as I haven't got much time before school pick up, but can't wait to see it.

Am annoyed though - I listed my Phil n Teds double on eBay last week and clearly stated all over the listing that it was for local pick up only. It sold today for £155 (loads more than I expected) and the buyer immediately messaged me to ask if I would post it! I don't want to lose the sale, but I really don't want the hassle of arranging a courier and have no idea how I'd package it up. Don't know what to do. I could do a second chance offer to the next highest bidder, but not sure how soon I can do that?

DurhamRed · 13/11/2014 15:14

Thanks Life I am still feeling nauseous all the time but I am much much better than before. I am going back to work on Monday on a phased return basis after 4 months off sick. I'm excited to be going back but worried that it may trigger severe vomiting again. Hopefully all will be OK if I take things slowly over the next few weeks.

Getting the pram is so exciting, I couldn't wait to put ours together when we got it...my OH suggested that as I was so excited I should put a teddy in it and walk to the end of the street and back...I wasn't that desperate!

I haven't used eBay for ages so not sure how long you have to wait for second chance offer. It is really annoying though when people don't read the info properly... Or maybe they did and thought they'd be cheeky and see if you would send it?

Lifeisabeach · 13/11/2014 15:46

I think she's just being cheeky and hoping I'll send it. She's just messaged pretty much begging me to post it as she's just had a baby and has 2 toddlers as well so is desperate. You'd think living in London she could find one closer to home rather than bidding on one 120 odd miles away!!

Ellizardo · 14/11/2014 08:22

Life..I think there are specialist courier companies that will take it for her (for £30 or so) if she's prepared to pay? We're doing that with a sofa...

theonewiththenoisychild · 14/11/2014 09:16

life i would say she should arrange a courier to pick it up. she should pay and make all the arrangements o as not to inconvenience you any more

Lifeisabeach · 14/11/2014 09:47

She's asked for my address so I'm hoping that's what she's planning to do. Think she'll need the dimensions of the pushchair once packaged up before she can arrange the courier though. Not sure how I'm going to package it...

Butterpuff · 14/11/2014 11:41

I'm guessing shoving it in a bin bag will not do the job Life what a pain.

Durham glad to hear that your able to try to get back to a normal life. Hope things go well when you start back at work.

Thanks for the advice re skinny jeans theone I might go see if I can get some. My next ones I really don't get on with. They just seem to keep falling off. I got my regular size but they are still too big. I went for over bump as I find under bump a bit uncomfortable (think its because I am so short wasted that there is no under bump!

I had 25 week midwife appointment this morning. Heard baby's heart beat again. My blood pressure keeps going down which midwife seems pleased about. So all good here. I asked about flu jab and she said it was up to me (husband and mum are going to bully me into it) and told me to have a think about whooping cough, but then told me I would not need it as I had whooping cough when I was a child. I had thought that you still need it as your natural antibodies fade over time.

KeeperOfTheZoo · 14/11/2014 11:46

Life I would definitely tell her that the listing clearly stated that it was for pick up only so if she now wants it sending then she has to arrange and pay for collection and it has to be collected at a time/from a place convenient for you. Cheeky mare!

I'm getting lots of comments all of a sudden about the size of my bump, which has absolutely sprung out at the front. I was big like this with DS though (even though he only weighed 6lb 15 so was presumably all water) so I expected it. Most of the comments are kind/good-natured so I don't mind really. At least I do look obviously pregnant now though, not just fat...!

I'm on a mission to start Xmas shopping today! So far this morning I've bought my sister a ticket to see The Lion King as it's back in Manchester for just a month at the beginning of the year (and I obviously had to get one for myself too, just to keep her company...!) and I got a NowTV box for my Mum. We're going to a local bike shop tomorrow to see if DS will actually be tall enough to ride a proper bike. He will be 2.5 at Xmas but he's quite teeny really so don't know if his legs will be long enough!

Lifeisabeach · 14/11/2014 12:05

Keeper, my bump has really grown in the last couple of weeks too. I'm definitely bigger than the last two times.

I'd recommend a balance bike for your DS - they are fab. My DD went straight to a pedal bike with no stabilisers when she was 3.3 after using a balance bike :-)

Gudgyx · 14/11/2014 14:17

Thanks ladies, my appointment was fine! Eye is completely back to normal, and they have no idea what caused it. I dont know why they insist on calling and coming in first thing next day just to check it again, worried me for nothing!

Saw my midwife and consultant today for 24w appointment. Have another midwife only appointment at 29 weeks, then first growth scan at 32, and another midwife appointment at 33. Then next growth scan at 36 weeks, and on the road to baby! Also got my MATB1 form, handed it in at work and have arranged all my maternity leave. Finishing up on 20th February!! All seems very real now.

I mentioned to her that baby was very varied in her movements i.e. some days going daft kicking and squirming, other days seeming quite content. She put the doppler on to reassure me she was ok and was just still small and getting used to movement. Baby had a nice strong heartbeat and kept moving away from the probe, little minx. Have felt good movements since which is reassuring!

Glad you're going back to work Durham. Maybe getting back into your routine will help a bit? So you're not at home thinking about feeling sick all the time. It's good you're feeling better though, fingers crossed thats the worst of it over for you.

M27J5M · 14/11/2014 14:44

Just place marking till I catch up Smile

Hope your all well

theonewiththenoisychild · 14/11/2014 14:45

durham i had aversion to chocolate with dd couldnt even smell it without retching. it was awful Sad but it did go away eventually. i find my aversions are to things i love and my cravings are for things ive never been that keen on like apple crumble or mince pies Grin

fourmonthstogo · 14/11/2014 19:10

Gudgy 20 Feb is my finishing date too! What with Christmas in the middle I suspect it's going to come round so fast!

DurhamRed · 14/11/2014 19:58

Thanks *gudgy" glad all is OK with your eyesight Smile are growth scans at 32 weeks the norm in your area or is this part of your personal antenatal care?

theone before pg I had such a sweet tooth, but as soon as I became pg i had/have an aversion to coffee and chocolate (hg didn't help as could really eat anything!) I can't even summon up any enthusiasm for cakes or biscuits either, they just make my nausea worse. Crisps however are a different ball game...and chips, strangely these are the only foods I know for definite now that I won't throw up (have even been able to tolerate veggies over that last few days, yay!).

m33r · 14/11/2014 20:15

gudgy my little lad's movement is like that too: sometimes he goes nuts and other times he gives me a bit of a token kick. I feel like it's too early for 'counting'
