callingall engles sorry, typo!

sallygib · 03/11/2014 21:54

So glad others feel in the same boat about unwanted size comments. Fed up of all the women at work who've had children and somehow feeling this gives them the right to comment on my size. I already feel like a freak show with about 200 teenagers scrutinising me whenever I walk (waddle) around the building. Yes I may suddenly have got huge, because I suddenly really like Galaxy chocolate bars. Then, stop lying to me, I haven't kept the weight off elsewhere and maintained a compact bump, I can feel my ass jiggling when I walk!
Work seemed really hard today, not sure how I'm going to manage the next 6 weeks without naps, teenagers moods and not being able to sit down 90% of the time! My classroom is on the 3rd floor and my kids are really trying, plus the fact I have all set 3/4's who are exhausting and mostly lack empathy.
Sorry for the big moan. DP has been away a week so I'm lacking my human vent station!

Single digit week countdown though! Wahoo!

Cherrypi · 04/11/2014 08:50

Anyone else bloody knackered? My work contract finished on Friday so now solely a SAHM to toddler. Don't want to do anything and husband and is sick of my moaning. Feeling a bit sorry for myself.

BilboTheAlmighty · 04/11/2014 09:20

If there is one person who should never be sick of your moaning, it's the father of your child cherrypi

For what it's worth, I'm feeling so shattered on top of other health problems that I've decided just now to only work 4 more weeks and then be off (as opposed to 6 weeks). Take care of yourself. It's the most important thing at this stage.

cheshirem2b · 04/11/2014 09:57

Cherrypi I agree with Bilbo! Tell him that you need to moan at him - he is the father after all!

Bilbo I'm shattered as well - well done you on finishing in 4 weeks instead of 6! You deserve it! 3 weeks and 4 days to go for me!

BilboTheAlmighty · 04/11/2014 12:57

cheshire I was getting so anxious about "surviving" till the Christmas holidays that I just went to see my head teacher about finishing sooner. They were very supportive and it's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. No long commute (I drive an hour each way) in December and I'll be able to rest for a month before baby comes. At first I felt guilty but I know that staying would have meant that my little health problems would become too much. DH was very supportive so I'm now happy. I actually only have 3 weeks left alone then I'll share with my cover for a week and then it's her on her own with my classes.

How far along are you? I need to keep track of people's dates!

cheshirem2b · 04/11/2014 13:08

I don't blame you Bilbo - I'm off for 4 weeks before my EDD of 1/1/15 unless they induce me due to the GD which means I'll be off 2 - 3 weeks which is still ok I think.
I'm 31+5 today so time is flying by!

The only thing we still need to get is a bouncer/rocker seat for baby - I keep seeing them and think they are too much for baby with music and vibration etc - anyone got any recommendations?

ilovelamp78 · 04/11/2014 18:28

Wow I've been away too long! It just took me 2 days to catch up on the threads! Looking for a bouncer over here too- recommendations welcome!

JonesSchool · 04/11/2014 22:35

The size of bump comments are horrid! My bump is quite small, on the 5th percentile at my 24week appointment but now moved onto the 50th percentile at my 28week appointment, but I still worry. Others peoples comments certainly don't help!

Due the 17th Jan, working until the beginning of the Christmas holidays, (zeta her) when I will be 36 weeks. So days I feel 'yes' I can do this, other days I want to crawl up the corridor. 6 weeks feels a long time.

jobrum · 04/11/2014 23:15

JonesSchool, I am also due Jan 17th. Finishing on 12 Dec with a couple of weeks holiday before my maternity leave starts. I'm in awe of anyone who works in a school! I can just tell my team when I'm intending to spend the day feeling sick and grumpy, I imagine a class of children don't pay much attention to that!

I'm so glad it's not just me that gets quite defensive over size comments. Dh tells me that I'm eating healthily and I've upped the amount of crap I'm eating Grin so I shouldn't take any notice. Stupid hormones!

I think I saw some basic bouncer chairs on mothercare and possibly in John Lewis. A friend is lending us one but I think it might be a vibrating, musical affair. I don't want to turn down the gift but I'd rather have a quiet chair!

BilboTheAlmighty · 05/11/2014 07:21

Regarding bouncers, I've seen some that were so ridiculously expensive with all their gadgets! Surely all those options aren't needed? Confused If yes then my poor baby is starting with a disadvantage because I got a second hand one. And I thought it was the alpha of all bouncers because it could rock Grin

From what I gathered from my online reading, you basically want a comfy chair that can bounce/rock when baby start gesticulating in it. Apparently they get hours of entertainment out of it? I don't know much about babies though, so it may be all wrong!!!

Cherrypi · 05/11/2014 07:24

Some babies don't like bouncers so maybe try one out when they're born before get an expensive one.

madrigals typical! Grin Poor baby bilbo is only getting a simple one I'm afraid! But I got her a great activity mat for later Blush I wouldn't mind an adult size one actually Grin

chiruri · 05/11/2014 11:23

Yay, 30+2 today! I'm with you all on the 'size' comments. I get told daily that I'm so 'neat' but as it's my first and the whole thing is so alien to me that I feel like a whale! I wish people would just stop talking about my bump :-(
Baby is definitely lying head down (I have an MRI to prove it) and I can feel constant little kicks and jabs under my ribs. It's reassuring, but so uncomfortable!
In getting bloods checked today to check my kidney function. Had a health scare two weeks ago and they're now just keeping close tabs on things. Just means appointments every 2 weeks until delivery, which is a pain!

HenriettaTurkey · 05/11/2014 14:09

Re: size comments. I've been getting the 'neat' ones too. Not helpful when you're signed in for growth scans etc.

Also, a load of old bollocks...have just had first of said growth scans and the boy is currently measuring on the 97th%.

Huge!

sleepisforthetired · 05/11/2014 16:31

Bouncers - some are not sold as "suitable from birth" - whilst I am sure they are fine, I was PFB, so had one that specifically said "suitable from birth" - so glad I did as could have stationary/various reclines and rocking.

DS had reflux and this chair was such a life saver for somewhere to put the baby after feed, whilst keeping on an incline, I have lent it to various people since with refluxy babies - and they all rave about it also. Best part was it was only £15 (from £50)!!

Also had a basic chair, and an all singing all dancing bouncer at the 2 grandparents houses, and DS preferred the basic rocker when smaller.

If there is anyway of trying them out before you buy, I would :)

BilboTheAlmighty · 05/11/2014 17:58

Ugh. Just received an email from work. That's another 30 minute lunch break for me because of a lunchtime meeting. How am I gonna survive I don't know. I have taken to sleeping in my car for 20 minutes now! Sad I'm such a moaner sometimes Blush

JonesSchool · 05/11/2014 21:13

Due date buddy jobrum
Not sure what zeta her means, makes me sound like a witch. Apologies.
We brought a second hand bouncer, it was supposed to be £120!!! We got it for £50 which is still crazy, but has rave reviews from various friends, it's a baby bjorn.

KateTheHuman · 06/11/2014 07:25

Woohoo! High Five Kate! 8 weeks until official EDD!
I've got diabetes clinic, growth scan and antenatal clinic this afternoon. Hope to pin consultant down on whether they will induce me or not at 38w and see if I can get any dates! I know these consultants can be evasive so I'm not holding my breath! Wink

KateTheHuman · 06/11/2014 08:02

Sounds like an exciting day!! Good luck!!! :)

bilbo extremely jealous that you have a car to nap in! I've been racking my brains for somewhere at work to nap and have realised there is no where. Also my school's heating is currently not working meaning I'm freezing!

Had to have today off as went to a fireworks display last night which meant about 3/4 hours of standing due to travel/ tube mayhem etc. Got home in absolute agony with hugely increased pelvic pains. Tried the ball for a while but still had a restless night and could barely walk this morning. Anyone else suffering or have some good tips to alleviate this pain?

Silver lining is I got my jabs done!

We got given a jazzy baby swing by Mamas and Papas from SiL and apparently nephew loved it. I'd never have picked it as it has a disco light roof and is covered in plasticy things but I think my inner snobbishness will have to disappear as apparently babies like these things...

sally I know, I'm so lucky! And because I arrive early (I'd rather beat traffic!), I always get a spot right by the entrance Grin As luck would have it, we also bought a new (to us) car this summer and both front seats can actually go completely flat, turning them into mini beds when needed! Having said that, aren't workplaces supposed to provide you with a place where to lie down and also express milk? Or is it just for expressing milk? I'm pretty sure I saw something about lying down in a quiet room... We have a sick room but it's dingy so I'd rather go to my car!

Regarding pelvic pain: I have it intermittently when I stay in one position for too long and it can be atrociously painful. I'm glad I've never had it so bad I can't walk. It must have been so painful Sad

cheshire I hope all went well?
