Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 14th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 29th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread in postnatal clubs here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates! It's a bit quiet at the moment, but with all these upduffed viroids hopefully it won't be for long!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

So, roll call below please, viroids!

Lol at antenatal bingo! I so want to play that when we go in jan!

Yes please to birth story juni

Scan tomorrow but movements are keeping me happy today, since we decided I was sure I was feeling her last week (cos DH could feel it too!) she's been moving about lots :)

ZylaB · 28/10/2014 10:11

bother I don't believe you're old, how old are you?

ZylaB · 28/10/2014 10:14

Also, just had a call from occupational health from work. They're doing a phone consultation with me on Thursday morning. The thing is, I have no idea what to say to them..... "The doctors have decided I'm better at home, no there's nothing you can do at work to make it better or they'd have put me on amended duties, but they haven't, they've said I'm not fit to work. I'm seeing consultants every other week, so I'm sure they know their stuff. Yes, I know what will make it better, having the baby in February." Does that sound rude? I just don't see the point...

KatoPotato · 28/10/2014 10:49

DH and I loved sniggering like children at our appointments and classes. We shamefully (and I'm sorry, please don't judge me!) used to play 'Who'd shag that?' then try and pair up couples.

We also remember 'Mr Scented Oils' who asked in a slimy voice at what stage in labour he'd be able to whip his out and start massaging his partner'

TheBooMonster · 28/10/2014 10:56

rofl kato that sounds like fun, and a far more productive use of time than grumbling about how long everything's taking. 'Mr Scented Olis' sounds fab, maybe I could borrow him for labour as DH is only really interested in massages if he thinks there are 'strings attached' :P

zyla I didn't realise companies actually did that O.o surely if your doctor says you can't work you can't work... having someone on the books to confirm your dr is right seems a bit pointless... Does the ocupational health dude have a degree in medicine?

I'm totally up for hearing that birth story!

RPopz · 28/10/2014 11:04

There was a lot of eyerolling and grimacing between me and DH last night (yep, we are that couple Wink ) A real low point was "Does everyone know what a cervix is??" ..... Hmm

Lol at your Bake Off Baby Bother Smile Pretty sure Juni kept under wraps til 20 weeks, and a lady on my other antenatal fred did too Smile x

Minion · 28/10/2014 11:12

Cookie
What? What?
I thought that was a hoax. Fuck...

ZylaB · 28/10/2014 11:19

Lol kato and rpopz

boo I think they just have to see if there's any adjustments they can make to help you either come back sooner, or for when you come back. I'll just be repeating that it won't be an issue when I've had the baby as they're classed as pregnancy complications lol.

BothersomeB · 28/10/2014 11:22

Zyla - I'm vvvvvv old in TTC terms - 40. Mr B is 47. I already have a mental image of him at antenatal classes rolling his eyes and coming over all Jeremy Clarkson/Basil Fawlty.

We were looking at the NHS guide to 'what not to eat' online last night and were crying laughing at some of the questions at the bottom...Mr B spent his time making up the answers...it was quite sweary...a sample of the questions for your entertainment:

  • "Is it safe to have cheese flavored crisps in pregnancy ?"
  • "Are Falafal and Hummous ok to eat whilst pregnant? I have just eaten a Boots Jamie Oliver flat bread with both and am worried that I may have put myself at risk of Listeria?"
  • "I accidentally ate some sausage, and after a few bites (maybe a quarter of the sausage), it struck me that it contained duck liver, and immediately stopped. I'm now desperately worried that I would have done some harm to my baby"
  • "you state on the website that smoked salmon is safe to eat in pregnancy. Does this include cold, pre-packaged smoked salmon?"
  • "Is it safe to eat a mcchicken sandwhich with the mayo ?"

Assuming these are the sort of people we'll be meeting at Ante Natal classes - I cannot wait!

In other news - saw my GP this morning for my referral...she gave me an info pack...turns out it was the wrong one - entitled 'Labour information pack. For Mums-to-be from 34 weeks'...am thinking it might be a mistake to open it...?

x

Nessalina · 28/10/2014 11:25

Bother - if you really want peace of mind I highly recommend the NIFTY test available privately. Full genetic testing for all the possible issues - not cheap, but you can have it from 12 weeks (we had it at 14) and it was very reassuring. Plus we got to know the gender super early! Smile Our NHS hospital offered it at £200, most of the private clinics were more like £350, so worth asking your midwife if you're thinking of it.
We didn't announce on FB til the 20 week with the scan photo, though we'd told everyone that mattered by then Grin

Zyla, just say that! They've got to follow process, but there's really nowt they can do to help is there??

Popz - if they don't know what a cervix is how the hell did they get this far? Grin

I had a proper meltdown last night viroids Blush A proper 'oh fuck, we're going to have a real BABY and I have to give BIRTH!!' DH had to calm me down - I was running around throwing things in the hospital bag Grin

teejayem · 28/10/2014 11:40

Is anyone doing the NCT antenatal, or are you going with the hospital led classes (sorry for the noob question).... I can book my hospital ones from next week, NCT booking isn't for another couple of weeks in our area..

Mr Tee reckons we can learn everything we need from TED talks and youtube. Hmm - I actually think he's trying to avoid them as his ma is a midwife and he's been scarred from years of war stories. I'm actually quite keen on the social/juvenile amusement aspect more than anything else.

I just ate two greggs apple danish pastries. Blush

Pisghetti · 28/10/2014 11:43

Haha Ness best to get the panic over with early - I didn't get it until I brought him home. At that point I was like 'Oh shit was I meant to bring it home with me? What do I do noooooww!!'

As ness said Zyla they have to follow procedure. It'll probably be straightforward like the home visit? We have an office with a factory site so all of our HR procedures are shaped by the factory environment (specifically the Union) so it's unlikely that a manager or HR would use their initiative to judge whether due process ought to apply or not - it just gets done to prevent more hassle further down the line with accusations of unfair treatment Hmm

I accidentally ate some sausage snigger

I'm being horribly unproductive flitting from one task to another and not getting anything done Blush I have my scan this afternoon so the day is going soooo slowly! I'm going to throw myself at a policy paper and not allow myself to look up until I have read it, understood it, and drafted a response to it. That should occupy me for a while! Might just tidy my desk up a bit first....

Oh and another pregnancy app related question - baby is currently the size of a small cantaloupe. Last week it was a tomato. On what fucking planet is a tomato nearly as big as a cantaloupe???

BothersomeB · 28/10/2014 11:45

Ness - thanks so much for the NIFTY info - I'd never heard of it but will almost certainly be doing it...finding out if there's a problem early is well worth £350 in my book and means we'd be able to make the 'announcement' with confidence! Feel really relieved as that was worrying me a lot. Thanks. x

Pisghetti · 28/10/2014 11:46

I want a Danish pastry now Envy

Can I ask a dumbass question - is that a biscuit wearing a witch's hat in the smiley list...? Halloween Biscuit

BothersomeB · 28/10/2014 12:05

Don't know what you're talking about Pis - that biscuit looks perfectly normal to me Halloween Grin

ZylaB · 28/10/2014 12:21

bother we had nifty test too, though they actually did it for us at 10 weeks so I knew before the nuchal fold scan that everything was ok! You're hardly older than us, I'm 36 will be 37 when little one arrives and DH is 42, will be 43 when she gets here. I also think we'll snigger a LOT at antenatal Grin

pis and ness thanks :) I know it's just following procedure, but it seems like such a waste of time. Oh well, hoops to jump through and all that!

I'm eating sausage!! Sausage sarnie for lunch, but it's ok cos its granary bread mwahahaha

ZylaB · 28/10/2014 12:23

tee we're doing nct, mostly because the course is a lot closer to home than the hospital and I want to meet some other mummies to be near us :)

ZylaB · 28/10/2014 12:27

pis good luck for scan! I liked it when baby was the size of a carrot, have you seen some carrots?!

BothersomeB · 28/10/2014 12:30

Zyla and Ness - on the nifty question, did you have to get referred by your hospital? Not sure whether I wait until first midwife appointment to talk about it or just crack on and book privately? Will be such a relief...the chance of downs rockets at my age...1 in 400 at age 35 but 1 in 100 at 40...so the few years could make a big difference Sad

BothersomeB · 28/10/2014 13:02

Sorry for all the newbie questions but Wiggly, I know you're an exerciser and previous MCer (Sad) and I'm in a quandry...I had an MC last year, am in an age bracket where it's more likely, and usually do yoga, a 'boot camp' style class and run each week...I asked GP and she said 'one miscarriage doesn't change the advice to carry on normal exercise, but if you are particularly worried, you might want to cut out running and anything involving impact'...so plan to swap the running for exercise bike at home, stick with yoga...but the bootcamp is problematic as it's at work at lunchtime so dropping out would involve an explanation...should I make something up? Or I could chat to the instructor separately and fein a knee injury so he can make adapts for me without bother...although it's still likely to be pretty hardcore...I love exercise and it makes me feel good, but I want to take absolutely no risks this time. What have you been told?

RPopz · 28/10/2014 13:11

Hahaha Ness - that's EXACTLY what I said!! Grin

Oh God, the food lists.... Just ignore them all, I do Wink

ZylaB · 28/10/2014 13:34

bother we just went privately. Was nice, had a scan then a blood test and that was it!

Nessalina · 28/10/2014 13:37

Tee - we've done NCT and really enjoyed it! The main benefit really is getting to meet other parents, so if you've already got a good support network it might be less useful for you. Our parents live nowhere near and we've not got many friends with kids, so it's great for us to have some folks to swap notes with! Smile

Ooh good luck with scanning the cantaloupe Pis! Grin They're all bollocks those size things - no one knows how big a dragon fruit is, but that was one of the 'helpful' comparisons on my app! Hmm

Bother - glad it helps! They're looking at introducing it on the NHS soon, but they haven't decided how yet. Because it's not invasive like amnio/CVS there's no chance of MC, so they want to introduce it as an alternative, but it's super expensive right now because the tests get send to the US for analysis, so they might only offer it free for high risk groups. We're just a couple of years too soon for freebies at the minute Shock
Anyway, we knew we wanted it doing, so we booked it privately for the week after our 12 week scan. When we went for the 12 week scan the consultant (we were with them coz of previous issue rather than the usual scan team) she asked why we weren't having the combined test done (bloods & nuchal measurement) and we said that there was no need because we were having the nifty blood test which was more accurate. She then said that they'd just started to do it in their department, and how much were we paying? Turned out it was £150 cheaper, so a no brainer, and they drew the blood for it that day! We were only the third people to have it done at our hospital though, it's mostly still done privately, so as I say, ask your midwife if it's something on offer in your area.

I'm a pillock. My breast pump has arrived - all the instructions are in Spanish, and it's got a 2-pin plug!! I've bought the EU version like a numpty!! Off back to Amazon it goes Confused

laurenamium · 28/10/2014 13:42

Mmmm sausage. I've had no Internet so haven't caught up with the thread properly yet- apart from the sausage bit Grin

I have a weird feeling that something's wrong that I just can't shake off. Has anyone else had this? I'm having MC dreams and just convinced something's going to go wrong!

Pisghetti · 28/10/2014 14:06

I had a sausage sandwich for dinner last night (Linda McCartney). DP was pretty horrified but he had sausage and potato wedges and I fail to see how that is 'better' Hmm it was everything I've ever wanted - love it when a meal feels like that Grin

Ness that's such a baby brain thing to do! Oops!

Lauren I was pretty convinced there'd be nothing there when I went for my dating scan. I've also dreamt about losing the baby. When DS was born, because his head was a bit blue when it emerged I just thought 'oh the baby's died'. In my defence I was totally off my tits on gas and air at that point -I'm not usually emotionless. I think it's fairly normal to have raging insanity a little paranoia
