Waddle aboard ladies.

Re trimming down there, I learnt my lesson last time, I had shaved and my god it hurt so much when it started to grow back and would catch on the maternity pads. This time im litterally trimming with scissors and I might shave the very edges but tbh I couldnt care less what it looked like Grin

blamber · 27/10/2014 15:15

I heard waxing is particularly painful in pregnancy. I do know some women who had it done just before their due date though, so it depends on the salon. But I would never have some stranger wax me anyway! So I just do what I always do, trim and shave the edges, using a mirror now.

My midwife actually told me not to get false nails for labour in case you need a c section and they need to attach a monitor to your finger. Not that there was any chance I would!

WorkFreeWannabe · 27/10/2014 15:16

Oooh Winter, that's a very good point. Might trim it low now so the regrowth isn't too severe

Lol WeeOnion, a vajazzle would've the furthest thing from my mind as well as the scourge of social media. I'm making an effort to get a pedicure this weekend as my scaly lizard feet and crocodile nails would definitely get noticed. Now to choose a suitable nail varnish colour decisions decisions

Has anyone else developed a sharp shooting pain in their groin/top of thigh almost like a trapped nerve Mine often stops me in my tracks and makes me want to collapse in a heap on the floor.

Annarose2014 · 27/10/2014 15:26

Yes WorkFree I've had that for weeks. Makes me weep changing positions sometimes. I'm hoping it goes away afterwards.

TwigletFiend · 27/10/2014 15:34

Oh God, my mind is in the gutter. The GUTTER!

My boss just offered to get the warehouse manager upstairs to 'squirt one for me'.

He was referring to air freshener.

I had to do an awkward, knock-kneed waddle to the toilet after laughing so hard a little bit of wee came out Blush

Greenstone · 27/10/2014 15:40

I have that top of thigh pain too. It's weird!
It's a bank holiday here so having a day of tidying and cleaning around dd. We shamefully, shamefully started into the bloody Christmas cake after lunch. Honestly. Self-control does not exist in this house! It was made yesterday. ..

Petal26 · 27/10/2014 15:49

So....
Constant back ache and period type pains here today, feeling very sick...
Just had 38 week midwife appointment, she said she could definitely feel tightenings, either early labour or baby trying to get head into position (so could ease off). Referred me for a growth scan as measuring 35cm but she said the event might have occurred by then. Still back to back which may explain the back ache....

Thisisimpossible · 27/10/2014 15:55

Ahahahahahahaaa!! It is so good to read all your stories - thank you for making me laugh :D Weeonion I loved the vajazzle story - my god, I really couldn't be bothered with all that kerfuffle. I saw an article the other day that some ladies were paying £700 to have someone come in and make them look all lovely for photos after they'd been through the birth (hair, make-up etc). Really?? I have a million things I'd rather spend £700 on. I am fully prepared for looking like I've run a marathon, but I'm rather hoping there might be a serene, peaceful quality to the photos that will more than make up for looking a complete mess.

I haven't had the stabbing pain but I have a friend who likened it to being stabbed in the groin. Quite pleased it hasn't hit me yet.

Twiglet you are well and truly in the gutter Grin May I join you?!

Ages ago, after someone mentioned it on here, I bought Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. I flicked through it when it arrived and scared myself silly with the graphic photos of babies emerging and so it's been on the bookshelf, unopened, until today because a few months ago I just couldn't face the realities of giving birth I guess.

But today I picked it up again and have started to read all the positive stories of childbirth that are at the front of the book. Yes, it's a bit hippy, but it is really nice to read some positive accounts instead of listening to everybody's horror stories. And there are some useful tips for managing contractions. It's probably not everybody's cup of tea but there was clearly a reason that it ended up in my house as it's been a refreshing and positive afternoon on the sofa Smile

amy83firsttimer · 27/10/2014 16:32

Ooh Petal26 sounds positive!!!

I've just had some little wicker baskets delivered and I've sorted the baby clothes into sizes etc and discovered I'm massively overstocked on vests and under on sleepsuits. Looks like I'll have to buy some pretty sharpish. I literally have 4 newborn sleepsuits and about 3 0-3. What a dick!!!!!!!

ladydolly · 27/10/2014 17:17

I was waxed but it really was minimal, I normally go for just a tiny landing strip but I just wanted to keep things neat, I did it for me, not for the midwives! I've also shaved the whole time because of swimming but done a ridiculously bad job on ocassions! I've also got an apt for lashes tomorrow but again, I've always had them done.

Backache and lots of tightening here but still think I'm a long way off, I can feel her head above my hip and see her bum under my boob. Need to get back on that ball.

All cake is fair game at this stage if you ask me!

ladydolly · 27/10/2014 17:17

Random thought, why don't they make gaviscon in choc flavor, they'd make a fortune....

haventgotaclue1 · 27/10/2014 17:31

ladydolly - LOVE it!!!!! Grin

amy83firsttimer · 27/10/2014 17:40

Crisis slightly averted - found some 0-3 sleepsuits in the box from DH's sister, but no newborn that I can see. Also found loads of little trousers and leggings. I reckon just a packet of newborn ones will sort it. Phew.

I've always been neat (shaven) before following foray into lesbianity but think it's a little overgrown now. Definitely going to get DH to neaten up for me (he's mainly shaven too so can be trusted with a razor in intimate areas)

OP posts:
pinkgirlythoughts · 27/10/2014 18:05

Amy, don't forget that they don't tend to stay in newborn very long though, so you won't need masses of them- I think the only think I've bought in newborn size this time is the baby's coming home from hospital outfit expects to deliver tiny-sized baby now that I've only bought bigger stuff

Twiglet that made me giggle!

Been having some horrendous stomach ache this afternoon, diarrhea and feeling really sick/shivery etc. Had it on Friday night too, when I actually woke up about 3am with it. A couple of Rennies and a nap seem to have eased it off a bit, but I still feel 'delicate,' to say the least! I wonder whether it's some kind of clear-out in preparation for labour. Never had anything like this with DS, so not sure if it's anything to get excited about, or just something I should get used to for the next 2-3 weeks!

CraziesTogether · 27/10/2014 18:06

The lady garden can stay a garden. I'm sure the midwives have seen it all before plus I can hardly reach down there now let alone see what I'm meant to be trimming!

Love the thought of going fully vajazzled....like a glitter ball just for the reaction! Grin

I've managed a whole day of ironing today, hoping gravity would help me get this girl out, and nothing.

DH now making hot hot hot veg curry for dinner which I know will keep me up all night with heartburn but you never know!

Amy I've had a few flaps about clothes but until baby is here who knows what size as some newborn stuff says up to 7lb or 9lb...and according to my last MW appointment I'm having a 'really really' tall baby. I have resigned myself to a supermarket dash once she is here and I know how big/small/tall she is.

amy83firsttimer · 27/10/2014 18:30

I literally have 3 smaller sleepsuits in the hospital bag plus one in the cupboard. Definitely going to get a packet while I'm at Asda tomorrow picking up my nursing bra, I can always keep in the pack and swap.if need be I suppose.

This article just appeared on my FB timeline. I thought it was interesting given the chat this afternoon about lady garden's, vjazzles etc

imagesofchildbirth

I also just lost a longer post. Essentially:

Yes to the stabbing groin pains

I have imported the grandparents for half term which is saving me from having to entertain the boys myself. It's a bit of a cop out, but I think we are all happier for it. Try getting your kids to make a to do list. A lot of the things even on my 3yos list were very low key and achievable. E.g. Play hide and seek; carve a pumpkin; play with musical instruments.

I was the one who recommended Ina May Gaskin. I wouldn't have said it was my cup of tea before reading it, but I have found it a positive read in my second and third pregnancies.

Thisisimpossible · 27/10/2014 18:56

Thank you loads, Kantha Smile I am very grateful.

It has been quite empowering reading it this afternoon Grin

Thisisimpossible · 27/10/2014 19:02

And thanks for the link to the Guardian article too Smile. Really interesting.

moggle · 27/10/2014 19:35

We got given so much second hand stuff- I sorted a bag of about 70 vests at the weekend! Figure it'll mean less washing hopefully - don't think I really needed any of the new clothes I bought...good job they were all half price at the time.

Kantha · 27/10/2014 19:56

You're welcome. Smile

weeonion · 27/10/2014 20:06

I loved the Ina may book too - really positive and empowering with a real focus on how amazing women are and can be. I have also loved Sheila kitzinger, Janet balaskas and Michelle mongan. On the October thread - lots of them, have been talking about ju ju sundin but haven't read it? Any of you tackled it??

weeonion · 27/10/2014 20:19

Kantha - thanks for posting that article. I had seen it on my positive birth group but it was good to see it here too.

I was reminded of it today when at hospital for monitoring check and how easy it could be to lapse into the 'white coat' mindset - where we think we have to give up our choices. I am ok with being monitored, especially as it shuts up the induction talk but HATED lying back on a bed with 2 dopplers strapped on. I told them,I find it hard to breath lying down and was uncomfortable. DP stepped in to change angle of head rest and source extra pillows - problem, solved. I honestly hated the thought of being like that for alot of labour and it made me more determined than ever to have an active birth. they now have me booked for induction at 2.45 on,Wednesday, despite me saying no.they also "offered" a sweep - in a " just while you're on that bed - why dont we just give you a wee sweep". no way - if baby's head is not engaged - there is no way my cervix us ready for that.

Anyhow - rant over. We all have elements of choice and options and I will be,using B.R.I.A.N. as needed!

amy83firsttimer · 27/10/2014 20:35

WeeOnion I'm part way through juju sundin's birth skills. It's good. It's all about distracting yourself from the pain through use of different techniques such as movement, vocalisation, visualisation etc.
Think DH's role in it is more important than he appreciates though.

Loving all the natural, active birth chat!
I had a medicalised, awful labour last time. Pessaries, drip, monitors, IV fluids. Nothing I want to repeat! Home birth all the way :) I might even have time to read some of these books suggested here! Where to start though?!?!
