Is any one else convinced spontaneous labour will only start at a ridiculous time of night and it couldn't possibly happen randomly at 2pm in the afternoon!?

For some reason I have myself convinced before I go to bed kitchen etc needs to be spotless just in case I end up in hospital but in the evening after tea I can happily leave the dishes hanging out by the sink for a while!

Also for any of u getting BH or contractions my midwife told me that rubbing your bump during the tightening actually stimulates the contractions as I was rubbing my tummy through them on one visit! Not sure how true this is or not!

pinkgirlythoughts · 10/11/2014 13:49

Yep, I'm just the same! I need to actually clean the kitchen with flash wipes every night at the minute, just in case. With DS though, my labour did start spontaneously just as I was going to bed at about 11.30, so that's my excuse this time :)

Annarose2014 · 10/11/2014 14:38

Blood Hell, now everything has stopped again. Nothing stirring now - rang midwife who told me to relax. Oh right, OK then, no problem! Hmm

Everything shutting down again has put me in a very cranky mood and then the doorbell rang and who should it be but the FORRINERS that some people may remember from previous threads. Basically they were inviting themselves to stay with me for two weeks just when I was due and wouldn't think of changing their dates and I refused to let them stay here. But they still came over to the nearby vicinity and decided that visiting a woman 9 days over made perfect sense! (And they knew full well as my sister picked them up from the airport yesterday).

I was in my pyjamas! Just time to leg it up the stairs and throw on yoga pants and my Mums hideous ancient fleece. But I still looked like shit on a stick, and felt horrendous, and had to sit there for an hour making polite conversation with FOUR of them.

And then afterwards I rang my sister for a moan and she decided to tell me about my parents having a right old upsetting barney and when I cut her off and told her I really couldn't hear it right now because I'd get in a state she got all huffy with me. I think she thinks I'm just sitting around having the life of Riley!

I HAVE NEVER NEEDED TO GET DRUNK MORE.

Sorry guys, needed a vent!

Greenstone · 10/11/2014 15:16

Oh Anna Rose I hear you. Having familial dramas here too and I just want it all to go away Cake

Can you go back to bed now?

Strawberryfield12 · 10/11/2014 15:27

Anna just a quick thought, could potentially a small glass of red get the things flowing again and you would manage to relax with the same as well?
I think at wk41 it cannot do too much harm to the baby?

But just a SMALL glass! Grin

Thisisimpossible · 10/11/2014 15:39

Oh Anna, how hideous. Your poor, poor thing. I think you were very wise to tell your sister you didn't want to hear it, and I take my hat off to you for managing to host your surprise guests at all.

Rant away. I would be! Have a big hug xx

haventgotaclue1 · 10/11/2014 15:39

Oh god Annarose, sounds awful!! What were they thinking?! Reckon Strawberry has the right idea re a (small) Wine!

Twiglet, I' with you - 39 weeks tomorrow and feeling pretty much the same as you. Still absolutely zero signs if I'm being completely honest except for the odd period-like pain, but that's not even every day.

Anyone else feeling really knackered now? Up until this weekend I'd been relatively ok - still doing quite a bit in the mornings, followed by afternoon snooze, but now I'm doing SO little and STILL sleeping in the afternoon! Is this "normal"?

Thehedgehogsong · 10/11/2014 15:56

Oh no Anna how awful! Back to bed with you and another vote for a little wine later. I will definitely be having a glass on my due date (if I make it to then!)

I'm having a weird leaking feeling and I have some watery yellow stuff coming out (sorry for over share). Would I be totally unreasonable to just not care and wait and see what happens next? Clearly if it is waters it's not all of my waters, so risk of infection isn't much of a problem, and if I call the midwife she will send me in for monitoring. Last pregnancy they just said 'yeah probably your waters' and induced me, then I had to have my waters burst in labour as they hadn't all gone at all!

Strawberryfield12 · 10/11/2014 15:59

To be honest Anna I admire your patience with those people, can see myself standing in the door half open and telling them something along the lines "Oh, so sorry you have to go now and cannot stay for a cuppa, would be nice to have a chat, hey ho, next time it is then" and closing the blooming door shut. On a lock, obviously...

That foursome do deserve to be told the truth about their cunning ways to crush on people without invitation. Especially knowing what you have been recently going through with the dad's illness etc. Argh, what a bad taste and manners!

Annarose2014 · 10/11/2014 16:01

Thanks so much all for the sympathy, as usual once I have my vent I feel much better! Grin

DH has put on a roaring fire in the grate at 3.30 in the afternoon and installed me in front of it with chocolate. The decadence of it all! Is helping enormously. Honestly, DH is literally the only person in my family who's not a complete head melter. Love that man!

[[hugs] to Greenstone. This is so not the right time for family shit. Its just impossible to cope with on top of everything.

Strawberryfield12 · 10/11/2014 16:06

Thehedgehog I think I would not rush calling, but would wait a bit. You cannot get infection straight away. Anyway, depending on hospital they have policy to consider induction if contractions don't appear 24-48 hours after your waters have broken. So you have time to wait over and see if contractions kick off and you can do the labour in a nice and natural way.

Also unless you put there something in (midwife's little fingers including), there should not be anything to get infection from?

Annarose2014 · 10/11/2014 16:33

hedgehog thats what I had on Friday - not waters, just discharge.

Thisisimpossible · 10/11/2014 16:37

Ah Anna love your DH! How thoughtful Smile

Thehedgehogsong · 10/11/2014 17:00

That's what I think it could be Anna. Just rather more than usual rather suddenly! I'm giving it until Thursday to see if it continues :)
Getting awful backache pains now, think I've overdone it today, probably what's causing the leaking! Lots of housework and playing with DD, walked to feed the ducks then took her to the park. I was expecting to wear her out but it's just me who is shattered!!

Petal26 · 10/11/2014 20:28

Evening all, baby is officially late now! Boooooo

40 week midwife appointment today. All checks were fine, she thinks baby has moved from being back to back to having his back around the left side of my bump?! Who knows, whatever makes labour less painful :-)
DD got to listen to baby's heartbeat again which she loves :-)
Offered a sweep next week but declined, made an appointment for next Thursday which is the earliest she can book me in for an induction for the following week so definitely having to wait 2 weeks.
Hopefully things will have kicked off by then!

TwigletFiend · 10/11/2014 21:17

Evening ladies,

Your DH sounds like a champ, Anna! Send him out to fend off any visitors next time!!

I feeling cramps coming in waves tonight, though nothing major. Trying to persuade myself it's nothing so that I don't get my hopes up! Only one wave every 10 minutes or so at the moment though, so not feeling too likely. Just realised car seat is at PILs house down the road, so large part of me hoping that this isn't anything, as there's no way to sneakily retrieve it and I really, really don't want them to know when I go into labour!!

excitedforbaba · 10/11/2014 23:00

Had a very productive day today done a good bit of walking round the shops, up and down some stairs and managed to convince oh to dtd and ever since iv had lots of crampy pains and slight tightenings but they seem to be getting bigger more painful and lasting longer

Trying not to get my hopes up though as I hate the disappointment of it coming to nothing! Especially as I'm not due for another few days!

No show yet either so I need someone to slap me and tell me tonight is not the night and to haul myself off to bed for a full nights sleep!!

catg83 · 11/11/2014 08:03

excitedforbaba- how did your night's sleep go? Any progress? Hope you are feeling ok.

I did too much yesterday and spent yesterday evening sitting on the ball whingeing to OH about my back. 40 week apt tomorrow so we will see what comes of that. Past 3 mornings I have woken up with a dead arm. Always my right one, however I sleep. Very odd!

Hope everybody has a relaxing day with lots of cake!

excitedforbaba · 11/11/2014 08:19

Thanks Cat had an awful nights sleep but all pains etc eased around 3am. Woke up this morning feeling horribly sick though!

So disappointed it all came to nothing... Again! Confused I am more than ready to meet this baba now!

I keep getting dead hips in the night have to haul myself round in the bed on an hourly basis!

Hope everyone had a good night's sleep. Wonder have we had any new arrivals over night Smile

happypotamus · 11/11/2014 08:39

Those of you still waiting and feeling disorganised and not ready: on Sunday DD2 was 2 weeks old, on Sunday DH finally got round to putting up the changing table in our room. We had survived fine for 2 weeks without it, just make sure you have everything you and baby can't live without (car seat, somewhere for it to sleep, a means of feeding it, nappies, clothes) and it will be ok.
anna grr at your relatives. When DD2 was 7days old 3 of my relatives invited themselves round to see her. They hadn't given a precise time but had said afternoon. They turned up at 11am. I wasn't even dressed, the house was a tip, there wasn't even any space to sit as DD1 had covered the settee in toys, DH had to rush out and get some food in as we had nothing to offer them for lunch.
Things are finally going better with DD2'S feeding here. After 2 weeks she is only 75g below her birth weight and I have started ignoring MWs' demands that I top her up after every breastfeed and am trying to trust her demands and my instincts.
Good luck to those of you with babies keeping you waiting.

pinkgirlythoughts · 11/11/2014 09:04

Well done happy and minihappy on feeding finally going a bit better :)

I'm 39 + 4 today, and today is the day my sister has predicted baby will be born. Since she's managed to guess the birth date of the last two babies in our family, months in advance, everyone is weirdly excited that something will be happening at some point today! I feel achy and heavy, but that's really no different to yesterday, so I'm not particularly expecting anything to kick off! Grin

blamber · 11/11/2014 09:19

Morning everyone! My baby boy is here! He was in a hurry to come out and he was born saterday after a quick labour. He was born weighing 3.2 kilos and is all healthy. Stayed in hospital for a couple of nights and now resting from a first sleepless night at home. Well he slept fine but I didn't as he won't settle in his crib!

We are still undecided on a name.

We were a bit unprepared too. We have all the basics but were still finishing his room! Had a bit of a panic about the house not being ready for him but we should be fine. It'll be easier when the nursery is finished but he has everything he needs now too.

pinkgirlythoughts · 11/11/2014 09:24

Yay, congratulations Blamber! Thanks

Thehedgehogsong · 11/11/2014 09:28

Congratulations Blamber! Wonderful news Grin

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 11/11/2014 09:29

Congratulations blamber - from my email as a maternity night nanny first night home are generally worst for baby sleeping no matter if short or long stay in hospital and whatever delivery method, I always know if I ever do a first night home that no dozing will be done by me. :)

Midwife app at lunchtime today am prepared for her to be running up to an hr late especially as mine isn't an official app squeezed into end of clinic as couldn't trust a 2.15 app being on time so could collect ds at 3 from school - they did agree with me that chances were slim of being on time.

Hospital bag finally arrived yesterday and wasn't alot bigger than one I had but means I can do a seperate "going home" bag for husband to bring in - with c section will be in 2-3 days.
