Evening ladies, room for another? I'm sure I know some of you from the start of the old birds thread but having been absent for a while Will introduce myself....

Notta aged 37, ttc #1. BFP today! After 20th cycles. I had had day 21 bloodshed and DH had a slightly iffy SA (3% morphology) Attended our first fertility clinic appointment Friday.......sod law and all that!

happy happy happy to be hear!

Sparrowlegs248 · 01/12/2014 22:00

Day 21 blood tests!! Not bloodshed obviously!

stubbornstains · 01/12/2014 22:05

....unless you had a really incompetent nurse?!

Congrats again notta, do you want to go on the stats list yet? Have you had a peek at what your EDD might be yet?

My letter from the fertility clinic dropped through the door a few hours after I got my BFP Grin

HexyQueen · 02/12/2014 10:22

Woo hoo! Congrats notta, good to have another old(ish) bird graduate in the coop! Sod's law is a weird one, eh? I was coming to the conclusion I needed to start to accept it may never happen at 42, as life was conspiring against us trying to DTD at the right time each month: I'm ill, 17 yo step son was seemingly never in college or out the bloody house during the day when I have the energy to cavort, but then DD had her 1st day at school, we put Dolly Parton At Glastonbury on TV* to drown out any noises from bedroom, and bob' your uncle, a sticky bean!! (Which may have to be called Jolene if a girl! ;))

  • I should add the choice was purely pragmatic not aphrodisiac; it was the only music recorded on my humax pvr, as we'd seen her at Glastonbury festival & never got round to watching the footage. Life is odd. Wink

LOL at Dolly Parton, Goddess of Fertility....well, it's obvious really, isn't it?!

You know, I'm 14+ 2 today, and gradually coming to the conclusion that these little movements I've been feeling in my tummy for the last few days aren't all wind.....Grin Grin Grin

HexyQueen · 02/12/2014 16:31

Stubborn, I've been feeling movement since turned 11 weeks. It actually showed bean revolving on my 12 week scan, which I'd been feeling as we walked into the scan room :)

stubbornstains · 02/12/2014 19:28

That's amazing hexy! It's funny, the NHS website says it's possible to feel movement from 13 weeks if it's your second (or more) baby, but I did happen upon a discussion where lots of women were saying that they started to feel movements at 11 weeks- and one at 9!

I actually find it more reassuring than the scan- probably because I don't really, truly, believe in technology. (adopts Medieval Crone- type whisper) The child quickenssss.....Grin

BingoBonkers · 02/12/2014 19:52

Stubborn - my EDD has moved but as I'm always overdue I think I'm going to keep the 21st! I'm liking the summer solstice vibe.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 02/12/2014 19:56

Hi old birds! notta you found us Smile.

Was away for a spa weekend with my hypnobirthing mate, def the way I'm going.

I bought a cot bed in the sales.....gulp!

stubbornstains · 02/12/2014 19:57

Maybe you could get some Druids to do a ritual to get the baby to come on time?

I know what you mean- my EDD is the 31st May, but I'd feel a fraud going on the May thread, because I'm sure it'll come late.....

stubbornstains · 02/12/2014 19:59

(that last post was meant for bingo, obvs, although I do now have a lovely vision of a load of druids chanting away in a jacuzzi Grin).

Gingerbreadlady1 · 02/12/2014 20:24

Hehe! I googled for an image of Druids in jacuzzi but strangely nothing came back.

I wouldn't get too hung up on edd, it's a guide surely that can go 2 weeks either way?

Gingerbreadlady1 · 02/12/2014 20:26

I think I've maybe been feeling gingerbaby for the last week but not sure. hexy I'm impressed!

Sparrowlegs248 · 02/12/2014 20:41

Ooh its great to hear of your baby movements! (I've got wind.....really, so early or a coincidence?!?!)

So ladies, tel me what I'm doing?! I'm clueless! What can i or can't i eat or drink?! What about exercise? What about riding my stupid horse?!!

Gingerbreadlady1 · 02/12/2014 21:01

I would think not due to repeated impact plus if you fell from height can't be great however I'm no expert notta

I recommend ovia preg app, should help with all your other queries, also useful food & medication guide.

BingoBonkers · 03/12/2014 06:40

Notta with my first child I rode until I was about five months but it was not comfy on my tum. Second time round I had moved yards and there wasn't a school only hacking and I not really anyone to ride with so I decided not to chance it in case we had a spook and I came off. For me now I wouldn't ride whilst pregnant. I can't help but think it's not worth the risk.

ClearlyOpaque · 03/12/2014 09:02

Been reading for a while, now it's time to introduce myself! DP and I are expecting our first in June and we've just announced on Facebook, so it all seems very real now.

I had a few concerns about being an "older mum" before we got pregnant, but they seem to have faded now. It still would be nice to join your club though.. will add my stats:

Hi! I'm new too! Not old, oh no no, not me! What is this old you are talking about? I'm 40, expecting our second at the end of April - I may or may not be 41, depends if she is early or late (due on the date I myself was due, and I was early. Might even share a birthday!). DS is four (so I was officially old with him too!). He was late, so maybe this one will be as well.

Just had our anomaly scan this morning, and looking as good as is possible to tell, so I am finally letting myself relax and enjoy my pregnancy.

We haven't announced on Fb, and probably won't. I will tell a few people. Not told anyone yet - telling PIL tonight, via DS's new 'World's Best Brother' tshirt.

Nice to meet you all!

FreedomHuntress 40, (may be 41 by birth), edd 27 April 2015. Girl. DS is four.

stubbornstains · 03/12/2014 10:56

Ooh, new cluckers! Welcome freedom and clearly!

We're obviously running nearly parallel lives freedom- we're the same age, and my DS is 4, too. I must admit I'm bricking it, having happily left the hell that is toddlerhood behind, and achieved a small (partially) rational human being, who can wipe his own bum, and even make his own lunch (kind of), and is learning to read and write.......and it's all going to be back to Square 1 soon- noooooo.....

nottalotta- erm, no booze. Or 1-2 units 1-2 times a week, depending on which guidelines they've issued over the last 5 minutes Hmm. (I went no booze in the first trimester- I'm now technically allowing myself a drink, but haven't yet). One cup of proper coffee a day, or 2 cups of gnats piss instant, or 3 cups of tea. No soft cheese, unless cooked, or pate. Don't clean litter trays out, unless you're wearing gloves. Don't assist at lambing Hmm. No swordfish. No more than 3/4 tins of tuna a week (who the hell eats that much tuna?!). Take Vitamin D. And, most importantly, FOLIC ACID. Use any literature on nutrition the NHS gives you to line the cat litter tray.

FreedomHuntress · 03/12/2014 11:11

Thanks, stubborn!
I'm finding I know quite a few people with a child of four and then a second. I think it is a lovely gap. (On paper! Yet to see!!!) I'm impressed yours makes his own lunch! Mine doesn't. He does bake a lot instead though.
Do you know if you are having a boy or a girl? How four is your boy? Mine will be four and a half when his sister arrives.

Notta, I am risk averse, so I wouldn't do or eat anything on the NHS avoid list. It's only nine months, not even that. I don't eat dairy anyway, nor meat, so no pate or soft cheese etc issues here. I don't drink either!

stubbornstains · 03/12/2014 11:25

DS is about 4 and 3 quarters...Smile. So he will be 5 and a bit when the baby arrives. I don't know what I'm having yet hope it's a girl.

When I say "makes his own lunch", I mean "gets wrap out of the packet, grates some cheese into it, chops some lumps off a cucumber with a butter knife, rolls it up leaving the ends open, hares into the dining room with it while I'm still getting a plate, leaving a trail of grated cheese behind him, has a total meltdown when this is pointed out to him, and ends up wailing inconsolably on the carpet surrounded by a halo of grated cheese" Grin.

FreedomHuntress · 03/12/2014 11:39

Do you plan to find out boy/girl? I had the Harmony test done at 11 weeks so we found out at 13. Just had it confirmed at scan today, though I think the Harmony test is pretty reliable. We aren't telling anyone we know. DS knows though, just hope he keeps quiet! Or I'll pass any comments by him off as wishful thinking? Sister? No, we said sibling!

That's still very impressive!

stubbornstains · 03/12/2014 11:48

I will totally find out at the 20 week scan! Hate surprises!

But, to be serious, when I was pregnant with DS I was on my own, and absolutely inconsolable when I found out I was having a boy. But, having struggled to get pregnant this time (a lot of us on this thread are "graduates" of the Old Birds TTC thread), and having heard of so many other peoples' losses and difficulties, I feel ashamed of my previous reaction. I now wonder what the U/S staff thought of me- for all I know they may have had to tell someone their baby had serious problems that day Blush. So, now I'll just be happy to have a healthy baby, of whatever sex but I'd still be made up to have a girl

FreedomHuntress · 03/12/2014 12:03

It's a surprise whenever you find out! Xmas Smile

I am sure the u/s staff thought nothing - they have seen it all before.
I think lots of people have a preference, most just don't admit it. I am very happy we are having a girl - we didn't have a second boys' name that was as good as DS's! Xmas Wink Mostly though, I am happy she seems as healthy as can be at this stage. And she took a while coming, felt like a struggle, compared to DS who was first time trying. Though I was BFing him extended, on demand, so when I take that into account, actually, it was about average, I guess.
