And good to have a due date buddy anything

Sparkle your nausea sounds just like mine. I find if I way something which spikes blood sugar, the nausea comes back much more quickly. Trick is to eat little and often and ideally not sugar! But sugar is good for an instant fix if you need it.

My first major symptom today- other than the general mild nausea- I cried because we didn't have any marmite.

Sorry I'm not posting much- getting into the swing of things and this thread moves so quickly! I'm reading when I can. I am generally feeling irrationally anxious about this pregnancy so just trying to keep my head down and get on with it until 12 weeks.

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend without too many worries.

Quick question, DH and I are going out for a Chinese next Friday for my birthday. Anything I need to avoid? I love the sesame prawn toasts and crispy duck... Still OK to eat?? And crispy seaweed, chicken satay etc?

htf2 · 26/10/2014 19:19

Also quick question from me - has anyone used cyclizine before and found it to only work for a little while? as of friday I am v+d again and not sure the cyclizine is doing anything at all anymore. it feels like really bad timing with work at the moment, I'm not sure what to do!

Jackiebrambles · 26/10/2014 19:35

Hello all! Congrats to all the newbies! :)

Really pleased for you MrsK I haven't been posting much but I have been lurking and keeping an eye!

I'm 5+1 today I think, although I reckon I'm slightly further along due to ovulating early. Got my docs appt tomorrow to get myself in the 'system' for booking in/scans etc. finally!!

God I'm so tired too. Just knackered. Toddler has been challenging but actually he slept in this morning so the extra hour didn't screw us up too badly, but I'm still knackered! Sorry to those of you whose little ones were up at some godawful time this am!

I'm starting to feel sick too, comes and goes, normally when I haven't eaten for a bit, but I've also got mouth ulcers so that's not helping!

Zaccheryquack · 26/10/2014 19:36

ots despite just eating a big dinner your post just made me feel hungry! Think you can eat all those things though as far as I know!

Jackiebrambles · 26/10/2014 19:37

Ots I don't think there is anything you can't have at the Chinese but I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will confirm!

ots · 26/10/2014 19:42

Yay :) . I've been so off food for the past week or so, but I'm so looking forward to Chinese. I'm a bit worried about the prawn toasts, but I'm guessing they would cook them really well?

sparkle17 · 26/10/2014 19:45

Think you should be ok with those things ots sounds nice.

JennyOfOldstones · 26/10/2014 20:14

Anything cooked is ok I think ots that's what I told DP today when he questioned whether I should be eating a steak and Stilton pie. I had Chinese on Friday, ordered enough for 4 and ate it all myself. It was a novelty to feel sick from overeating instead of from pregnancy!

ots · 26/10/2014 20:22

I think I'll just risk it and have 1 or 2. Steak and Stilton pie sounds good. I think I read on the NHS website that you can eat Stilton uncooked, I'll check :)

ots · 26/10/2014 20:24

Cheeses that are safe to eat in pregnancy

All hard cheeses are safe in pregnancy

You can eat hard cheeses such as cheddar, parmesan and stilton, even if they're made with unpasteurised milk. Hard cheeses don't contain as much water as soft cheeses, so bacteria are less likely to grow in them. It is possible for hard cheese to contain listeria, but the risk is considered to be low.

Yay for Stilton!

Catypillar · 26/10/2014 20:26

Guybrush I love your username! Remember DH playing the Monkey Island games when we first got together (around the time that MI 3 came out- a long time ago!)

I'm 6+3 and just found out today. DS will be 7 next year. I'd pretty much given up on this ever happening! Cautiously excited as it's still very early days and I'm on a lot of medication for bipolar disorder so am expecting to need extra scans, etc. I did allow myself a few minutes of looking at maternity clothes on eBay this afternoon though... Had hyperemesis last time and am quite nauseated now but still managing to eat whole meals so hoping it stays like this.

Catypillar · 26/10/2014 20:28

Cross-posted with Jenny and ots- yay for Stilton indeed! Also cooked goats cheese and peanut butter. None of these were allowed when I was pregnant with DS.

AnythingNotEverything · 26/10/2014 20:32

Caty congratulations and welcome. Hope the nausea stays away.

MrsExtraOrdinary · 26/10/2014 20:32

Ots I think it all depends how strict you intend to be. I've stopped drinking caffeine but that's easy as I can't stomach it. I started off with good intentions but it's kind of gone out the window as I'm eating so little if I do fancy something I've just gone with it. My confessions are a few cubes of feta, an accidental few almonds and several prawns and I think a bit of mayonnaise?! I've steered clear of all alcohol and prescribed meds I usually take.

JennyOfOldstones · 26/10/2014 20:36

Thanks for the list ots and welcome caty I am another monkey island fan!

The advice seems to have changed with peanuts but I can't stand them so that's an easy one!

MrsEO- feta and almonds are fine! So is mayonnaise if it's not made with raw eggs (so most home made is not, but you can have Hellmans, etc) just looked up prawns (I'm veggie so didn't know) and they are fine if they're cooked. I'm using the NHS Scotland Ready Steady Baby guide www.readysteadybaby.org.uk/you-and-your-pregnancy/looking-after-yourself-during-pregnancy/eating-well/what-foods-to-avoid.aspx .

AnythingNotEverything · 26/10/2014 20:42

MrsE I think you can eat all of those things. I wouldn't eat homemade mayo actually because of the raw egg, but feta, almonds and prawns are fine I think. I was last pregnant just over a year ago and am sure I ate them then!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 26/10/2014 20:43

Thanks Catypillar Smile I love it when someone recognises the name! I player MI 5 when I went off on maternity leave last time. Don't think I'll be doing that this time with a toddler to look after!

impatienceisavirtue · 26/10/2014 20:47

Welcome caty, and congrats! I'm also bipolar, but pregnancy has never made it worse for me, I actually find I'm less crazy when pregnant ha!

I think I'm going to have to go make some cheese on toast. I cannot stop eating. I'm going to be massive come June.

MrsExtraOrdinary · 26/10/2014 20:53

Well there you go! I thought the Mayo was probably ok as it was only in a pre packed sandwich. But was absolutely sure the prawns and feta were no go! Thankyou caty! Just goes to show I've had 5 babies and I know nothing, lmao!

impatienceisavirtue · 26/10/2014 21:09

Prawns better be ok, I had a whole load of them at spudulike today without thinking BlushBlush

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/10/2014 21:13

What's the deal with caffeine? Why is this a no?
