FreedomHuntress · 20/10/2014 20:49

Thanks, cinnamongreyhound. Aw. It's a lovely time of year!

FreedomHuntress · 20/10/2014 20:56

Just about to add myself to the stat thread. Shall we start three groups within it - Team Pink, Team Blue and Team Yellow? I think everyone who knows so far is expecting a girl, aren't they?

LadyNovember · 20/10/2014 21:22

Congrats on the scans those that went today!

I swear my tummy has grown overnight Hmm maybe it's because it's so full of poo Grin #constipated

TheBooMonster · 20/10/2014 21:57

welcome freedom You're all organised passes you the organised hat I will be finding out what I'm having this time (hopefully) I think it might be a bit easier to wait until people are having their 20 week scans to try and split the due dates up into colours as most of us won't know for a while, but it's a good idea. Was it this group that was talking about bump buddies? (Pairing people up to text to give the group updates if they go into labour.) Perhaps it was the Facebook group I'm in...

Horseyone · 20/10/2014 22:16

theboomonster how to join fb group please?

How does everyone know sex so early?! Still undecided on whether or not to find out, what's everyone's thoughts on reasons not to?

And thank you lauren was worrying my bridjit jones moves might have been a bit too much for little prawn :)

AbiBanbury · 20/10/2014 22:45

Hi all, I'm 15w tomorrow. The morning sickness has worn off (thank God so I can now sit on the sofas and lie in my bed without smelling the fabric which makes me want to hurl!) but have had side splitting headaches for the last 5 weeks. Praying to whatever God there is that they stop soon before I lose my sanity but otherwise, feeling loads better. As for coats, I've got a fur coat that I bought last year and I'm hoping its got enough space in it to house a bump without having to buy anything extra. Just looked at prams/buggies for the first time today and was completely bamboozled!

TheBooMonster · 20/10/2014 22:51

horseyone It's originally from bounty because we couldn't get the bounty forums to work properly so we quickly emigrated to Facebook. if you add Betsi Thomas Percy, she has an in the night garden thing for her pic, she can add you to the group.

FreedomHuntress · 20/10/2014 22:55

Thanks, Boo, good to be here.
Sure, happy to wait! Just seemed a fair few already knew!
I shall go add myself to the stats thread as is.

Horsey, we found out as we paid for the Harmony test. We didn't find out with DS, but this time, I mainly wanted to know because we have NO boys' names (used up the awesomeness on DS), so I wanted to be able to relax about names if it was a girl. And it's nice telling DS he is getting a sister. I was perfectly happy not knowing first time round. Horses for courses. It's still a surprise whether you find out at 13 weeks or 40 weeks.
We aren't telling anyone in RL that we know the gender. We haven't actually told anyone in RL that we are even expecting (other than DS)! I'd like to keep it to ourselves for a good while yet. Not showing at all, no nausea or anything, and by the time I am showing, it will be wintery and cold so I will wrap up in chunky knits!
Going on holiday with a friend, she may guess as I won't be able to go on the big swirly waterslides. I don't drink anyway, so no clues for her there. May feign twinned back re lack of waterslides action! But if she knows, I'm not too bothered really.

FreedomHuntress · 20/10/2014 22:57

*twinged back

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2213810-Best-month-to-have-a-baby - lots saying April is a great month to be born. As an April baby myself, I'd have to agree! :)

TheBooMonster · 20/10/2014 23:12

We didn't find out the sex first time round, we knew we wanted two babies, so it made sense to shop neutral for all the big stuff so it could be used with both babies regardless of their sex.

We also agreed on Alex for either sex, Alexander for a boy and Alex(and)ia for a girl, so it wasn't like knowing the sex would help us pick a name, we went for the shorter girl version in the end, which is nice and unusual, but I'm kind of kicking myself a bit now for not sticking with the longer version.

This time round we have so much girly clothing built up that I'd like to be able to shift it and get boys stuff if we're not having another girl (and I'm convinced this one's a boy, though that might just be because I've seen so much cute boy stuff :P) and we can't agree on any names, so halving the choices by knowing the sex will make things so much easier, we might not announce the sex to everyone else though...

Wineandchoccy · 21/10/2014 07:16

Morning all, I'm off to China today for 1 week that's if my plane takes off Confused planes either side of mine from Manchester have been cancelled.

Still got to finish packing as so far I've only packed knickers, socks and my maternity notes!

We are not going to find out the sex as it's our first we have decided we will have a surprise although we have more girls names picked than boys.

15w today.

FizzyBubbly · 21/10/2014 08:11

Have a great trip Wine! Hope you get to see some of the sights in between work... although I suspect trekking the Great Wall might be off the list!

BooMonster, I'm same as you re finding out the sex - we didn't find out with DD but now I want to know if I an get rid of the bags and bags of girlie clothes we have stored in the loft. Figure I'll have more time to sort it out now than when #2 arrives

Lauren82000 · 21/10/2014 09:12

I think if they can see at the 20w scan then fine I'll find out but if it's not conclusive or just a bad angle I don't mind having another surprise. I'll pull all the baby clothes out and either wash them ready or charity shop them.

Siarie · 21/10/2014 10:58

So much for waiting for the baby to be older to fly! My PIL and BIL have invited the whole family over to Australia for Christmas next year! Baby will be about eight months old so I need to do a little research before committing.

PIL have offered to pay for the flights and everything, flying us all business class.

Does anyone have any experience of flying with a baby at that age?

Siarie · 21/10/2014 11:01

I'd love to do it if possible as we haven't met BIL's girlfriend yet and they want to rent a big beach house. I just have no experience with this as this will be our first.

BananaToast · 21/10/2014 11:10

Siarie we'll be doing a similar trip for the baby to meet DH's side of the family - we're currently planning on doing it fairly early (3 months ish) because we really want them all to meet the little one early one, but we're aware it will probably be a horrendous flight - and we might change our mind on timing! I've had mixed advice from people with experience... some say it's best to go as soon as possible when they sleep loads and don't really need entertaining, others say the altitude hurts their ears and they will scream the whole way.

TinyTear · 21/10/2014 11:18

Siarie I flew with my dd at 10 weeks and 7 months... she was fine... much better when they are not mobile and running about and needing more entertaining!

TinyTear · 21/10/2014 11:19

For the altitude, if you are breastfeeding, boob on take off and boob on landing is the best... or if they are fast asleep it won't even be necessary...

Siarie · 21/10/2014 11:24

Altitude effects boobs! I would not have known that. I'm Hoping to breastfeed if I'm able.

What do you do for nappy changing? Those toilets are always tiny in fact I can barely turn in them so I can't imagine trying to change a nappy in one.

TinyTear · 21/10/2014 11:29

I'm afraid I have only done shorthaul to Lisbon or Faro so changed before boarding and on landing... but i know someone who went to Australia and said it wasn't that bad... especially if you are on business class...

TinyTear · 21/10/2014 11:30

And a funny story, on one of the flights (7 months I think) DH had DD on the carrier and while we were on a GIANT passport queue she did the most horrible poo, but we couldn't leave the queue so he had to keep her hanging on him, with the most vile stench Grin

at least it wasn't me...

ChickenMe · 21/10/2014 11:46

Morning
Feeling very sick still despite being 16+3, have the driest skin ever too. Anyone else?
And am drinking loads of water/herbal teas for the dry skin so am up hourly in the night for a piddle!!!
I'm really determined to breastfeed so I've bought a few books and briefed my friends who breastfed that I will need tips. Who else is hoping to or has done it before?

TinyTear · 21/10/2014 12:01

I am still bf-ing my 2y8m DD
Grin

Ready to stop now, but she isn't getting the memo...

wrote this yesterday on another site as someone else was asking about breastfeeding and pumps:

  • -

Main things: I got a philips avent natural manual pump and it was great, much better than the medela electric which i ended up selling.

but my DD didn't take bottles so pumping wasn't too needed, mostly when i travelled for business to prevent engorgement.

she took some from a beaker at 7/8 months...

it hurts at the start... it takes a while to get used to it, but then it's just so easy... lansinoh is a godsend for the nipples at the start, but then you won't need it anymore...

fenugreek is good for milk production and so is porridge. but fenugreek makes you smell a bit...

you will miss the exclusive bf days when you start weaning and have to carry snacks and food as when bf all you need is baby and boob...

Breastfeeding a toddler is great especially if they are ill and poorly as it's the best nutrition. my DD was 3 days in hospital with a chest infection at 18 months and the fact i was bfing meant she didn't need hydration via drip as she wasn't eating or drinking...
