Every woman in my family on my mum and dads side right back to my nan had had a girl first Hidingthefear so I was convinced I was going to have a girl but ended up with ds1. Dh is convinced he felt the baby yesterday and it was were I felt it so maybe, I'm 18weeks today but it's usually 20+ weeks for feeling from the outside I think.

Hidingthefear · 03/11/2014 13:53

cinnamongreyhound ooo not too long to wait then, i think he's a little envious he can't feel it yet but he says he doesn't mind seen as he's not being sick every day. So i tickled his belly and said it's like that but from teh iside which made him smile (yeah we're pretty childish still at 25!), oh and on your earlier post, me too on the previous injury thing. Damaged ligament on right side of my inner hip is playing up and i image it will get worse the heavier i get.. sigh

TheBooMonster sounds like a very sensible partner. I'm in charge of budgets in our house as DH confesses he is useless with money. We had a joint account before we even lived together because he had no money saved for a house deposit. I can forgive that though seen as though we were only 17/18. I set up a budget plan earlier in the year when we got married so that I could work out if a baby was financially "do-able". but is anybody really ever financially "ready" for a baby, people just seem to make it work. I just know it will have a better start in life than I did and that's all I need to know.

JaneyTea · 03/11/2014 13:59

Nunkie I'm still here, thank you. Mostly lurking. Tiredness has lessened a bit, which means I have been able to make some progress on DIY and general sorting out of stuff, (seriously - 4 bags of clothes to the charity shop this weekend. Blimey Confused ) Still feeling pretty down and anxious, and then anxious about feeling anxious and pickling the baby in hormones etc.

We also found out last week that DP's dad has cancer and has to have surgery next week. The long term implications of the surgery are a bit vague at the moment. Somewhat ironically, he received the 5 year all-clear from the first time he had cancer in April, so it's been a bit of a shock. We told him and DP's stepmum about the pregnancy, so that they had some good news amongst all the hard stuff.

I really need to start taking better care of myself - just struggling to feel motivated. Apparently I have been pregnant for 89 days - only another 177 (ish) to go!

We're off down south to visit my parents to tell them the news at the weekend.

Welcome to the new ladies Brew

Nunkie · 03/11/2014 14:01

Are me and Hiding the only ones holding out for finding the sex at birth now then? Smile We did think about it, but - as your DP says, Hiding - it seems a bit like peeking under the christmas present wrapping before Christmas.
I also like the idea of him being the one to reveal the gender once Peanut is born (assuming a nurse doesn't jump in there first) - as a bonus, it gives him something to concentrate on - other than fainting! :0D
(That said its still tempting to find out, but we've already turned down the chance once - lets see if we can hold out thru the 20week scan. Which i am (predictably) getting worried about now, after a blissful couple weeks off the Worry Sofa. Especially since i thought I felt Peanut movements on Friday, but haven't felt anything now for a couple days)

I now make phone games Hiding, so I don't think they're pathetic at all! Grin (well, I guess it depends on the game, I think its more that some of them can be a little exploitative - though an interesting bit of inside info is that only about 2% of players ever pay anything on a Free to Play game. That tells you something about the sheer volume of people that play the successful ones) P vs Z is awesome tho!

And yes - Hurray for more gaming Mums!
I don't really have the energy to concentrate on games other than the ones we're making anymore. Had another go on Gone Home yesterday and made self motion sick. Again!
Hearthstone has taken over from Clash of Clans as DP's current favourite pastime - just as well the poor bloke has one, as i tend to go to bed at about 9pm these days!

livvy - just type Maternity Sportwear into google, and your cup shall runneth over with websites selling yoga pants! :0D

Hi CherryLips and Toucanet, good to have you join us!
(I hope you're not dieting too hard tho Cherry - its not such a great time for it when you're preggers!)

Lauren, I get the dizzy thing all the time when i get out of bed in the night and start walking to the loo! I had to start getting out slower :0)

Kismac - that was a bloody daft thing your Mum-in-law said - good she has apologised though!

JaneyTea · 03/11/2014 14:09

I think that we will wait until birth to find out the gender, (unless bloblet displays all during the 20 week scan). My main motivation for wanting find out is for the knitting, which probably isn't a good enough reason!

Hi Janey!

Oh, I'm really sorry to hear about your DP's dad, and I hope he makes a good recovery from his surgery! It was nice of you to tell then the news and give them a lift!

Try not to feel anxious about feeling anxious (I do it all the time, too, but I like to remember what Cinnamon said re having a very stressful pregnancy then the most laid back kiddie afterwards! I wouldn't worry too much about 'looking after yourself' either.. as long as you're eating food, and getting some fresh air here and there, I reckon you'll be fine! (specially when you consider some gals live on ice-lollies and not much else for weeks!)
Pictures of pregnant ladies smiling over a forkful of said just... well - i think i'm just going to re-post that tumblr account from the other day, as it says what i want to way better than i can :0D

itsliketheyknowus.tumblr.com/

We did the charity shop thing too - uncluttering your house a bit kind of helps unclutter your brain, and I felt a lot better afterwards, I don't know about you..?

The best help, for me, was definitely telling folk. As soon as i saw friends/family all excited, it rubbed off on me a bit. So i still worry, but i kind of feel buoyed up by that, and make a point of catching up with them if i feel down again and need a good old vent!

cinnamongreyhound · 03/11/2014 14:24

I think the measuring of the bump is daft Misty414, I was always too big with my boys and was told I was having huge babies. They were 8lb12 1/2 and 9lb 2 but they were both two weeks over due. My friend was frightened into having an elcs because drs said her little boys was going to be huge, 8lb 2 at 39weeks. They don't seem to take into account how much padding you have or the shape/density of your abs. I was 15 1/2st when pregnant with my boys so had quite a bit of tummy flab which must make a difference. Had to have extra scans with ds2 as my Bmi was 35 (they changed the guidelines as I was lighter with him than ds2) and he measured a bit big but not as big as he had by tape measure over my belly.

JaneyTea · 03/11/2014 14:31

nunkie that link is amazing, made me giggle away behind my computer screen. A bit of decluttering definitely helps - it was also another thing crossed off the 'giant list of things we need to do before April'. I do love crossing things off a list.....

minipie · 03/11/2014 14:44

Afternoon all

Welcome to Toucan and Cherry and any other new joiners I've missed! Do add your stats to the separate stats thread Smile

A few people have asked if we are going to be trying again for a boy seeing as DC2 is another girl - nope! We are definitely stopping at 2. Lots of people asking if DH is happy as well - yes he is! It is a bit of a shame to me that there's this idea that everyone must want at least one of each, after all it's not like all boys are the same or all girls are the same. I'm sure DD2 will have her own personality different to DD1 hopefully she will need a lot more sleep and be a bit calmer!.

dances I have an anterior placenta (again) and just starting to feel very slight prods in the last few days (am 18 weeks) which is earlier than last time. But I might be imagining it. If you look on your 12 week scan notes it might say if you have anterior or posterior placenta, I think mine does?

Annia we have a similar decor dilemma - there is a room which is going to be a spare room for the next couple of years, then be DC2's room. So we need to find a decor scheme that will work for adults and then for a child. Probably a stripy blind I think, and maybe green or duck egg walls.

kismac Shock at your MIL though some credit to her for writing the letter I guess. Sorry you have to go back to work, that's rubbish with HG.

Pregnancy seems to be going quite sloooowly at the moment... not a bad thing as we have lots to do.

minipie · 03/11/2014 14:48

Oh I love that tumblr link Nunkie!

Wineandchoccy · 03/11/2014 14:51

We are not finding out the sex either, decided we would like a surprise in April.

I de cluttered the spare room which will become babies room at the weekend I think I was a bit ruthless though as I wanted to put a photo of my niece in a frame and guess where the frames are, yep at the charity shop!

I have zero concentration levels today, I'm working from home and hardly got any work done. Spreadsheets and pregnant ladies do not mix Grin

janey sorry to hear about your DP's dad, I hope the good news spurs him on.

kismac I'm glad your MIL apologised but very stupid of her to say it in the 1st place.

nunkie that link is very funny Grin

Right best get on with some more work, is it not time to go on mat leave yet??

RiverRocks · 03/11/2014 15:08

Afternoon ladies,

Welcome to Toucan and Cherry.

I'm 19+4, and people keep asking if I've felt anything but I'm not sure. I think so, but people describe flutters, or tickling. What I've felt feels more like a hollow 'thunking', if that makes sense. And then a bit like my muscles are spasming. Does this sound about right? Confused

Got my 20 week scan on Friday. Think this abstract idea of pregnancy may result in a weekend of panicking 'Oh God, there really is a baby in there, it's not just too much chocolate and crisps, and biscuits, and buns and the rest of the crap which is all I can eat at the moment'.

I still feel a bit nauseous when I wake up, and have to make sure I eat regularly, but I don't feel nearly as sick as I did, so there is hope. The tiredness, however, seems to be getting worse Sad

AnniaFausta · 03/11/2014 15:41

Janey, I think we're in the same boat as you - if it's really obvious in the scan we'll ask the sonographer to confirm the gender, but if it isn't, we're happy to wait. DH thinks it's weird for the sonographer to know and for us not to, which feels about right to me, but we're not fussed enough to make the baby do acrobatics to find out.

Also, I'm sorry to hear about your DP's father and glad the pregnancy news has created a little bit of positivity in the midst of everything else.

mini - I think we're going to go for something very neutral, possibly gray-blue. I like the idea of stripy curtains/blind for a nursery, just because it'll have a good chance of surviving any DC's own development of taste, and is cheaper to replace than repainting the whole room. I've really liked the designs I've seen that have been v. plain but with lots of colourful rugs/cushions/blinds/soft furnishing to pep it up. A lot easier to update, although I think DH is going to make some pointed comments about carpets and infant-related spillage...

AnniaFausta · 03/11/2014 15:44

...in Tumblr-related news, I have just seen the Wifi-accessible breast milk caption and tea has leaked onto my marking. Nunkie, you are a bad influence ;)

Lauren82000 · 03/11/2014 16:21

RiverRocks I think mine has been doing acrobatics I can feel it rolling around and wind certainly does not feel like that. It kind of feels like something is brushing up against the front of the inside. I've also been having flutterings and the odd pop. I think everyone is different at how they perceive the feeling. It is after all your body and only you know it best. If you think your feeling movement you probably are.

I'm only 15+5 but this is my second pregnancy that's got this far so I'm pretty sure of what I'm feeling despite the sonographer saying that my placenta was at the front. I think it's more to the side than front and centre as he said it was where he had the wand and that was on the left side. I am certainly feeling more in the centre and in the right than the left.

CherryLips1980 · 03/11/2014 16:54

We're waiting to find out as well. At the moment, anyway. I am pregnant, therefore I can change my mind whenever I want ;)

Nope, not dieting too hard. Ummm, it would be fair to say I'm hardly dieting at all at the moment Blush hides Galaxy wrappers

DD had her 8 month HV check this afternoon. It's her birthday on Sunday [huh] . Anyway, HV said she's developing 'as they'd expect' which is nice to hear. Got my 16 week appointment on Thursday. I still sometimes find it hard to believe I'm pregnant again (despite having whined yesterday I feel like I've been pregnant forever). Lauren, I'm pretty sure I've felt this one move this week as well.

kismac I'm glad your MIL apologised but another whose jaw dropped when I read what she said!

cinnamongreyhound · 03/11/2014 17:19

With both my 20 week scans the sonographer kept away from that area until we asked to know the sex. With ds2 we took my mum and ds1 who waited outside while she did the measurements and checks and then they came in afterwards, she wouldn't tell them the sex and said it was down to us to tell them when we got out.

FizzyBubbly · 03/11/2014 20:50

Evening all! And welcome Cherry and Toucan!

At my 20wk scan with DD we told the sonographer we didn't want to know the sex but he referred it as a boy throughout the entire scan... "There's his legs"...."There's his bladder".... He finished with "Oh sorry I should be saying it, not he shouldn't I!"

Left the scan convinced it was a boy so we were totally shocked when out popped a girl!

I've got an anterior placenta (again) too, but have been feeling flutters since about 12wks and they're even more noticeable now at 15+4 so I'm not sure how anterior it is? There's also the fact that I've still got a pretty large gap between my abs from my last pregnancy so that's one less layer of muscle for the kicks to be felt through.

16wk appt tomorrow and then consultant appt on Wednesday!

daholster · 03/11/2014 21:15

Hello all and welcome newbies! 16 week appt with midwife today, all seemed ok, baby was a little pest to find, could hear it kicking but the midwife had to spend ages and turn me over to find the heartbeat - eventually she found it!

Am very busy this week, exam on Thursday, so just checking in... So looking forward to the weekend, and have up just booked last minute Centre Parcs next week, excited!

16+6

Lauren82000 · 03/11/2014 21:41

Fizzy I'm the other way round consultant tomorrow and 16w appointment Wednesday.

Going to see DH's cousin's new baby tomorrow quite looking forward to a cuddle. Men aren't really interested so I get to bogart the babySmile DH wants to take DD with us I'm not sure but I suppose it will be easier for her to visualise what's going on in mummy's tummy. I'll get over it, just have to make sure DH is supervising her properly she's a right little madam at the moment.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/11/2014 21:51

Good luck daholster!

mswibble · 03/11/2014 21:51

'Ello!
Am interested to hear everyone's ideas for their baby's rooms. We're slowly getting the foundations sorted - plastering, replacing a bust radiator and wiring - and I can't decide between carpet or laminate. I like that laminate is cheap and easy to keep clean. OH thinks it will be too cold and we should get a carpet but I'm worried about stains and spillages. What have you got or what have you got planned? I have a board on Pinterest called 'Bambino's Room' which is being filled with ideas, love it!

wineadchoccy I am bloody useless at the moment. The only spreadsheets I'm able to to faff about with are my own which detail all my 'to do' lists!
I'm also in the middle of a giant declutter, tidy house tidy mind as they say, but blimey - its exhausting!

river rocks you have described exactly what I have occasionally felt! And I'm still eating loads of crap but I'm hoping that the tonnes of houmous and raw carrots is at least cancelling out some of the thickly buttered soda bread I have been jamming in to my gob non stop!

15+4
