There are some extremely unusual names on the baby names thread! Is it because people only want to sound out more unusual names or is there just a general trend toward the more fantastical now?

Lauren I like that you have a theme (and especially that it is Roald Dahl related)!

We have barely discussed names but so far we definitely seem to lean towards more traditional names. But I have a bee in my bonnet about names sounding too 'common' with our extremely common surname! So they can't be too popular either Hmm

LadyNovember · 01/10/2014 23:21

Just had a quick look at the threads..jeezo..remind me not to share my names on MN..some people are just SO mean!! It's not that hard to say "it's not my cup of tea, but if you like it...." Is it?! Hmm

Horseyone · 02/10/2014 06:40

Lovely scan cinnamon!

Seem to have gotten over the sickness, I have a big bag of mixed fruit and nuts which I nibble on throughout the day and I'm sure it's helping. Also got a thing for meat-flavoured crisps....frazzles and mccoys steak crinkles are the best! Anyone else got cravings?

Plus completely gone off tea (decaf of course), used to drink 8 cups per day! Can only be a good thing I suppose :)

Ps love all the names! I think daholser has an amazing selection! Gertrude is a great name too, DH bought a baby names book months ago and wrote lists of his favourites in the back, I think he has about 20 girls names and 4 boys names! Is that a sign?

cinnamongreyhound · 02/10/2014 07:30

My stepdads mum was gert :)

Love your announcement LadyNovember.

Catsofa I just changed my profile pic to my scan pic when I had ds2 and waited :) a friend of mine posted a pic of her two saying we are going to be a big brother/sister.

Sorry to hear they were mean Sazzle82G! I had a problem with ds2's nursery last week, I was sooooo angry I had to walk away and speak to them later but the teacher was very apologetic and the woman who upset ds2 is very new so I'm hoping someone had a quiet word.

Been for a run this morning with someone I run with regularly and she stops quite a bit but today she said 'let's stop her to get your heartrate down', 'let's walk this bit as its a bit uneven' oh dear! It's not always good people knowing!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/10/2014 07:31

I think girls names are much easier HorseyOne so maybe not Wink

BrixtonBunny · 02/10/2014 07:53

We still have not a clue about names! I'm trying to convince DP that because baby will have his surname, I get to pick the middle name - that's fair, right? Wink

I think we'll talk more about names when we know the sex as every time we talk about names now we just can't agree on anything! We have a boys name we both quite like, but drawing a blank at girl's names... But I do have a weird feeling it might be a boy so who knows! Blush

BananaToast · 02/10/2014 07:56

See when we've discussed names in the past we've agreed on lots of girls names but hardly any boys names - and one of my friends who is about 20 weeks has told me she is naming her little boy one of the only boys names we both like. So because it's going to be so difficult for us to name a boy I've convinced myself that's what we're having!

I loved Beth before I met dh but that is his bitch of an ex-wife's name so I'd never name my child that :( I also love Charlotte and Emily but we haven't really talked girls names as dh is so convinced we'll have another boy!

HippoPottyMouth · 02/10/2014 09:26

EssenceofGelfling, I hope you get the harmony test very soon and that it hopefully puts your mind at rest. If the nuchal measurement was good then perhaps it is just a blood anomaly? Who knows of course, it must be v stressful for you, not knowing.
As it's a private test can you just ring up and make the appt ASAP? The results will take about 2 weeks.

Re names, I like Toby for a boy, as Toby the Tram Engine is my favourite. But we had a stick insect called Toby who recently died, so not sure that is a good provenance..

Oh and I had my second attempt at harmony test on Tuesday, blob was finally big enough for the test and had a really thorough scan with it too which was lovely. Even got a 3d pic, it was quite clear on the screen but the photo is a bit weird.
You can kind of see head and then arms are bent up to face and bent legs at the bottom

I LOVE talking baby names, they're so cute! I have a few boys names that I love (settled on one but DH doesn't know that yet!) but girls names are so hard! And I think it's going to be a girl. DH and I both work with children so name suggestions are hard as we both associate names with children we've come across. The only girls name I like happens to also be the name of DH's best mates wife... Not sure if I can use it in case she thinks we've named buttons after her!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/10/2014 09:57

You can definitely see it HippoPottyMouth!

I love Laura for a girl but dh works with a horrible woman called Laura so he said no way! He said if we have a girl I can call it whatever I like but that's not really true, when it get a bit more serious!

Siarie · 02/10/2014 10:04

We have had names sorted since we met really so no need to discuss them. But I can't share there as they are unique and I want to keep them that way Shock

10 weeks today, feels like the 12 week milestone is speeding along right now, I don't know where the time is going. Probably all the sleeping I'm doing.

Lauren82000 · 02/10/2014 10:49

Grr got some pinky/beige spotting again. Been 2 weeks since the last lot thought I was over it. Now I have to sit tight again for a few days see what happens. Very annoying.

RiverRocks · 02/10/2014 11:03

I really like Alice, but DH's mum's (recently deceased) cat was called that, so I don't think it'd go down well.

I like Toby too, Hippo, but that's our cat's name, so also a no go, and Ben, which was our family dog when I was little.

Why can't people be sensible like me, and call their cats something which nobody in their right mind would call a child Grin (Toby was a rescue).

I also have a huge family, around 35 cousins, and about 15 half cousins now, so we have a lot of the nicest names already taken. DH's favourite boys name is one of my cousins who I'm really close to, which was also my granddad's name (he died before I was born), and my favourite boys name is one of DH's cousins. But they're not close, and I've never met him, so I say that doesn't count!

londonlivvy · 02/10/2014 12:43

Ooh names are HARD. We have a very boring surname so I kinda want to go with a slightly more interesting first name, but not a very very unusual hard to live with sort of name. Possible contenders include Luke, Zachary, Hunter (I'm not convinced, it's DH’s choice!), Phoebe, Lucy and Emily. I think it must be really hard if you work with children as you’ll know so many kids with different names and it’s hard to disassociate the name from the child. DH has refused one name because it’s his best mate’s name for his knob. I was all WTF? How do you even know that? Men. GRR. It was a good name too. squattingneville I like Beth and Bridget. Lovely. Not sure about Joseph as I can only hear it said in a soft Irish brogue and I’m not Irish (but would you call the child Joe on a day to day basis? If so I think it's a fab name. Great for boy and man). Hurrah for a good night’s sleep.

Good news for us at scan today. Just one. Phew. And nuchal fold looking reasonable (1.5) so just holding out for the blood test results to get our risk status etc. It’s reassuring but don’t think I’ll relax til we get the bloods. Bonus was that I skipped a few days so instead of being 12+4 I’m now 13+1. Hurrah.

Brixton sounds entirely fair to me!! We went with two middle names as we couldn’t decide! (ooh just noticed you’re my new due date buddy).
Oh cinnamon I quite agree. People can be a bit too protective sometimes. I’m not made of glass all of a sudden!

Oh ratsLauren. I know spotting isn’t necessarily bad news but worrying I’m sure nevertheless. I loved Ophelia and wanted to copy you but DH says no. Boo. This compromising business is tricky.

minipie · 02/10/2014 12:46

Some lovely names mentioned here!

I love Dominic for a boy - though looks like we'll never have a boy now if all goes to plan... Lucky really as DH wouldn't agree to Dominic Toby is great too.

Our top pick at the moment for a DD is Cecily. I also like Madeleine, Bryony and Marianne but DH isn't keen. I think I like Romilly, not sure.

Lauren82000 · 02/10/2014 12:55

Thanks London, health professionals don't seem to care if your spotting if it's not red or your not in pain. Still going to finish work early and ring the EPU when I get home for advice. This is the fifth time I've spotted usually just a few days but one of those times was a full on 8 day brown period (sorry time) the scan I had over 3 weeks ago now was fine but I've spotted twice since then.

BananaToast · 02/10/2014 13:05

Lauren if it makes you feel any better I've spotted every day except for about 2 weeks since I found out 7 weeks ago! And every scan I've had (4 of them) have all looked perfect with no obvious reason for bleeding. So fed up of it but trying not to worry too much.

Lea2014 · 02/10/2014 13:38

12+2 scan on Tuesday eeeee excited

MrsS010814 · 02/10/2014 13:50
