minipie we'll see how it goes, I wouldn't want to fly with a small baby I was thinking more 12 months plus then they can enjoy it more. Although as you said depends on the child Grin could get a little monster. I guess that's why people take their nannies on holiday!

Cute picture horsey! Looking forward to mine on Monday, although Im hoping I feel a tad better. I'm sure they are used to lots of sick ladies waiting so at least I won't look out of place if I have to be sick!

I haven't been able to take my prenatals every day as some days just the taste of them makes me sick. But they have folic acid in and I was thinking of just taking them for the whole pregnancy.

Lindalove · 15/10/2014 17:07

Anyone else been told to also have whooping cough vaccine? Went for 16 week check up today, all is well but they mentioned that I might need that.

Have also got 20 week scan , 25 week doc appt & 28 week check up booked - at 28 weeks they'll do a glucose check to see if I'm diabetic apparently. Also get a free antenatal class at the hospital though I'm doing NCT too.

Tummy really sticking out now but haven't felt any movements that I didn't think was wind!

Other than that have started to research how I can try and have an Eco baby to avoid too much waste. Wow re reusable nappies, had no idea there were so many types! Also you can get reusable baby wipes which seems like a good idea. I don't mind the washing, and in theory at least reusables should cut down on expense. Anyone had any reusable nappy experiences? I'm thinking Tots Bots Teenyfit and Bumgenius sound good.

mswibble · 15/10/2014 17:30

minipie im finding it hard to envisage both our money in the one pot and feeling comfortable buying things out of it. We have very different views on money - im a spender and he's a saver! The actual childcare cost will of course be joint, as will all bills really whilst I actually have money to contribute, but its going to be hard to stop the 'my money' and 'your money' mindset!

My midwife told me to carry on taking Pregnacare throughout the whole pregnancy. Not sure whether thats standard or if its because im a total chubster!

Update on the terrible toilet situation ... im now actually managing to go every day, however still blocking the loo! Sad urrgh! Going to have to analyse my diet, maybe its all the crumpet loaf toast ive been munching!

minipie · 15/10/2014 17:30

Fizzy yup that's a sacral dimple.

Siarie Ah I was thinking you meant old enough to fly as in, the plane will accept them! which is a few days old I think Grin 18 months worked quite well for us - old enough to be walking reasonably well/able to potter in the pool, young enough to be quite easily amused/not want us to play all the time.

minipie · 15/10/2014 17:34

ms that does make it harder! Maybe agree some principles you can both stick to eg no more than X each spent on frivolous stuff per week (cos it's not really fair with joint money if one of you is being frugal and the other is having loads of coffees/nails etc) and if either of you want to spend more than Y in one go you have to discuss it first? That's kind of what DH and I do. But we are both savers by nature so it's easier.

mswibble · 15/10/2014 17:35

Im really hoping to go down the real nappy route too lindalove and also considering the wipes. It doesnt seem like it would be more of a chore, just another scrap of fabric to go into the nappy pail. How all this would go when you're out all day or even away on a weekend is another matter though.

Tesco have a terry nappy starter pack which is reduced to £6.99. Im not sure I could go for the retro terry nappies, complete with nappy pins, but I might pick one up just to have a play around with.
There doesnt seem to be a real nappy library in my area sadly which is a shame.

mamabear0315 · 15/10/2014 17:43

Hello everyone :)
Feeling pretty good now (minus my spotty face lol)
& starting to get a little bump :D im going to share my pic on here, hope that's okay! This was at 14+2.
hoping the next two weeks fly by so i can get back into the midwives and book my anatomy scan :)
My fiance started his new job today! Such a relief financially :) (honestly where he was working before there is nooo way we would have been able to afford this baby! so it was getting a little scary)

Reusable wipes are amazing, I went a bit overboard on the Cheeky wipes website so have tonnes and tonnes. With nappies it's a really good idea to buy or borrow a few different types and cuts because babies come in all different sizes and some nappies will fit better than others. we bought tonnes of the two part Bambino Mio nappies and they were an awful fit in the beginning (not so bad now but two parts are such a faf). I love the Mio Solo nappies because they're so easy to use, but DH and his parents have never been hot on using the reusable nappies, and I gave up trying to get them to work overnight, unfortunately with the disposables in the house 'just for over night' it's too tempting for people to reach for them in the day :/ Definitely check out Facebook groups for preloved nappies, so long as they've been looked after well they'll generally be more absorbent than new nappies anyway and much cheeper.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/10/2014 18:11

Yes LindaLove, I've been told to book a whooping cough jab at 28 weeks. I also have antiD at 28 weeks at hospital and have to have bloods done a week before as they need the result before they give antiD. I'm guessing I won't get a 24 weeks apt as they skipped that one with ds2 so assuming it's a more than one baby thing. My first cloth nappy arrived today. I have a friend who's given me some tips, she recommends pocket ones as they are convenient but easier to dry than the all in ones and she is now solely using bumgenius after trying lots of other brands. The one I have is birth to potty training and she says they really do last that long. I've watched these and babipur seems to be a good site to buy from and each month has a code. This months is spooky which gives you 20% off but I'm not going to buy until I know the sex as they are quite colourful!! There are also fb groups for buying second hand ones which is where I bought mine and its in fab condition. I have yet to convince dh though Angry

cinnamongreyhound · 15/10/2014 18:17

Crossed 3 posts there! Lovely bump mamabear0315, I have a tiny bump laying down but standing up nothing and above my belly button swells during the day! I had most of my bump above my belly button with both ds's and it was a horrible shape! Was hoping with being 5st lighter this time I'd have a more normal bump but not to be I guess. Having been very overweight a lot of my life I have a lot of excess skin on my belly so it just looks hideous at the moment.

mamabear0315 · 15/10/2014 18:37

Thanks misty and cinnamon !
i find that so fascinating with baby bumps..how many different shapes and looks they can take! (all uniquely beautiful! :)).
I wasn't so fortunate with my DS ( it kinda just looked like i was putting on weight until i was about 28 weeks when it finally became more defined! ahh lol) but with him i had beautiful hair and beautiful clear skin..
this time i seem to have traded for a cute bump lol since my hair and skin are a mess! :/
Interesting about the reusable wipes though..I have never heard of that being an option before..i think i will have to do some research :P

Stuntman · 15/10/2014 18:38

Linda I had to have the whooping cough vaccine last pregnancy as the outbreak had just started. I was quite annoyed to find out I have to have it again this pregnancy too.

I have been looking at my bump and wondering what it is made of?! It's quite pronounced now at 12 weeks yet the baby is only the size of the lime. So where has all this belly come from?

With regard to finances, all ours go into a joint account that pays the bills then we each have a 'pocket money' account that we put a set amount into each month which we can spend on whatever we want. We also have separate savings accounts for any windfalls like work bonuses that we can use for larger purchases.

Has anyone else had their blood test come back with alloantibodies? Mine has and I got quite upset about it yesterday but there's nothing that can be done until they test it again in another ten weeks so it's just a case of watch and wait.

Lauren82000 · 15/10/2014 18:42

I'm not convinced about reusable wipes. It's fine if it's a quick wipe I suppose but when you get a bum explosion out and about and have to use half a pack if wipes I can imagine using your entire stash of reusables in one sitting. Hence not that useable in practice.

Definitely getting a bit of a bump standing up and only one I can see lying down but happy non the less. With what little I have and when I'm alone give it a little stroke even if it is mostly squished organs Wink

My scan letter finally showed up along with 2 consultant letters that were identical. (Waste of paper) I have to go have an ECG Confused I didn't have one last time. Wondering if they have changed their policy or if it's because I'm older and not had my heart checked since DD was 1?
(12+5 or 13+1)

BananaToast · 15/10/2014 18:42

mamabear I am jealous of your lovely little bump! I can't wait to have one - I still can't even feel my uterus so think it will be a while yet for me!

Lauren82000 · 15/10/2014 18:47

Banana one day you'll wake up and look like someone stuck a bike pump up your bum in the night. That happened to my mum with my sister. One day she was flat the next she had this cute little bump come out of nowhere. Wink

BananaToast · 15/10/2014 18:53

That sounds rather unpleasant! But looking forward to looking properly pregnant, and particularly to feeling movements.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/10/2014 19:01

Sounds like a girl then mamabear0315! They say they steal your beauty Wink

Sorry stuntman, can't help all my bloods have been normal. Is like a stepB thing? Not heard of it before.

I think you can do more than one wipe Lauren82000, as they're quite big. I imagine it's more of wipe and fold and wipe again Hmm Confused

cinnamon yes I heard bumgenius were good and will check out the Facebook preloved groups . Also as I live in Hackney the council give you a £50 voucher towards buying cloth nappies as part of the 'real nappy' campaign so am waiting for my voucher to come through.

I've heard Cheeky wipes are good and should clear up faster than normal disposable wipes. I really avoid throw away wipes generally as think they must clog up the drains even if they're disposable.

Lindalove · 15/10/2014 20:04

mswibble I heard that the gnappies make are hybrid - you can add a disposable liner when you go out & about & then use cloth at home? That's as much as I know though.

I love love love huggies wipes! You need so many less than all others and they don't leave a horrible coating and I have used every type of wipes with my job. Unless I have a specific reason like allergies I usually leave my mindees wipes in their bags and just use my huggies ones. Never flush them though, they go inside the nappy, which are always disposable until now.

BananaToast · 16/10/2014 07:55

Woke up to the news one of my good friends had a baby girl yesterday - the photo made me completely broody... Lucky I'm already pregnant Grin It feels so unreal that it will be my turn before too long. Off to buy a baby present today! I'm excited to buy something baby related even if it's not for me.

TinyTear · 16/10/2014 08:16

cinnamon funny how it's a matter of personal taste. I found the Huggies a bit dry and prefer the pampers sensitive... and I was a Huggies nappies woman! i cried when they stopped selling!

My advice to the newbies, is don't commit to a giant box, buy a few packs of different brands - nappies and wipes - and then decide which ones to buy massive boxes of...
