I bought a pushchair on eBay for £16 when 16wks with ds1 and my mum went mad Sairie!!! I've looked at a few bits but haven't found any gender neutral clothes so far so may have to wait for that! If you have somewhere to store it all then when ever you like! I didn't buy bottles until later as I was determined to bf and didn't want anything bottle related in the house. Got a pump when he was around 6 weeks and a few bottles as I expressed when I went back to work so needed him to take a bottle but they don't recommende before 6 weeks to stop nipple confusion. Otherwise I got bits as I saw them as they were mostly second hand so wanted the best bargains Grin

Have any of you made a birth partner guide for your other half? Like with things he needs to research into / have an understanding of. The things he needs to pack. The things you want need him / don't want him to do? I'm wondering if a terrifying check list might help him understand my thought process, it would kind of be like a birthplan, but specifically for him?

Lauren82000 · 10/10/2014 13:59

I'm just buying mattresses too, one for the cotbed DD is currently still in, one for the swinging crib that has had every member of my side of the family in for the last 60 or so years and I might see if my sister still has the Moses basket so that will need one too. I am using my pram from DD as it's practically new. Not sure what happened to the car seat bit think my sister borrowed it. So might need a new one if those. Got loads of baby grows and vests packed away so just going to need nappies and an emergency dummy. (DD wasn't a dummy/bottle baby so hoping for another that won't do fake nipples either) oh I do need a new monitor the last one died after 9 months hoping the batteries have moved on since then and actually last.

TinyTear · 10/10/2014 14:05

ah yes, a car seat, we had a borrowed one as we don't have a car, we used it for holidays, but have just given it to another friend...

littleluna89 · 10/10/2014 14:07

Yea, we mostly need nappies and mattresses. DD started off yellow, so we have lots of neutral stuff up to 6 months if we have a boy, though if that happens we'll sell all the girl clothes (though perhaps not vests and baby grows...) to get boys things.

Though I'm prowling gumtree for one of those neuronic rocker chairs, if I can find one cheap I might have to try and sneak it into the house... and if I can't breastfeed we'll get the tommy tipped bottle maker.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2014 14:07

I have 3 car seats so should be good! Pushchair is good from birth and my mum has bought a mattress for both my boys so assume she'll do the same this time. My friend has my cot but her ds will be 2 by the time this ones born so hoping he'll be in a bed by then :)
I have a bouncy chair, changing mat and gym I kept for minding but no clothes at all. Sold my pumps though :(

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2014 14:08

I still have my grobags too :)

Lauren82000 · 10/10/2014 14:11

Yup still got gro bags and hooded towels. I'm such a pack rat. I have a bouncy chair a swing and a gym. Not forgetting my jumparoo.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2014 14:14

I want a bucket bath this time :)
I know people say a baby bath is a waste of time but I loved mine, both boys could have a bath in front of the fire when tiny and i found it easier then leaning over the bath. Ds1 had one of those seats that went in the bath and hated it so when too big I just laid them in the big bath with enough water to go sort of half way up their heads :)

TinyTear · 10/10/2014 14:16

My 2y8m still used her baby bath! she prefers than the big bath. (but she is dinky)

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2014 14:18

My two are huge! Ds1 was 8lb 12 1/2 and gained a lb a week for ages! Ds2 was 9lb 2 and has stayed reasonably big. Both on 91st centile for height and 75th for weight!

TinyTear · 10/10/2014 14:26

My dinks has been on the 9th centile for weight for ever and about 5th for height!

If this next one is bigger will be a surprise

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2014 14:32

Ahhhh, I'd like one in newborn clothes for more than 2 weeks!

I don't think you have to but my DD has been in a toddler bed since Easter so it will be a year of the mattress being used for play and being stuck in a corner of the spare room...

Lindalove · 10/10/2014 15:05

Just been to a knitting show and bought lovely patterns and wool for a baby blanket, a crochet teddy bear and a jumper. I got a sock pattern & husb a hat! So I'll be busy this autumn!

I'm lucky in that in terms of other baby stuff my sister in law has a stack of gear to give me including bassinet, clothes, changing table etc, car seat/buggy thing - it's so great to get hand me downs, saves a bundle.

Lauren82000 · 10/10/2014 15:25

I thought it was something to do with increased risk of Cot Death. But I might be wrong.

Ahh spotting again! Had 2 days of back to normal and again with the brown. It is slightly darker than Tuesdays, still annoying though even if I know why it's happening. Just clinging to the sonographers words of 'it would take something big to shift the baby now.'

Lauren82000 · 10/10/2014 15:28

Hand me downs are great but for those first timers who won't be getting any. Don't panic despite what advertising tells you baby's don't really need that much. Just a place to sleep and something to wear.

dancestomyowntune · 10/10/2014 15:30

Have to say I'm a little naughty and have already picked up a sangenic nappy bin (£2:50 from Asda' s bargain bin), a pack of bottles and a baby gro. Oh and a tall boy for babies stuff! My mum has also been given a Moses basket so although I'm only 13 weeks we are starting to accumulate quite a bit!

I have the Angelcare nappy bin Dances and even though people will tell you it's not worth it, once you start weaning and the poos get, ahem, more adult, it was a godsend!

TinyTear · 10/10/2014 15:32

I didn't buy mine until 7 or 8 months on...

Yep I love my nappy bin, none of my minded children are in nappies at the moment so it's just sitting. Rather that than have nappies in sacks sat outside the front door like lots I see!

I think it's just General accumulation of dust, skin etc in the mattress which is why they recommend new ones to reduce sids?

As I said my mum bought ours but they were £80 and the cot itself was £20 second hand. So not breaking the bank for peace of mind, unless you have an odd shaped cot like SquattingNeville which may make it more pricey!

Siarie · 10/10/2014 16:18

My cats have the equivalent of a nappy bin, so I can see how great they would be. Two bins of poo! Great lol.

It sounds like it's a good idea to buy quality items and keep them for the next one. This will be my first so while I know they don't need much I think it's nice to splurge to make my life easier.

I'm also due for my scan on the 20th so it seems the last few pictures will be coming in a little spurt.
