Bitchpeas, I was two weeks behind where they thought for my first scan so I've had a bonus one, and I'm presuming the heartbeat will still be there... it's the rest of it I'm nervous about. The sonographer then was very chatty and friendly, so I'll hope for the same one...

daholster · 06/10/2014 19:06

The problem of course is the fact that they can't actually test in pregnant people and their unborn babies so there is no info. But they have the vaccine 2 months after they are born anyway so its not long before its in their system, this just tides them over until their immune systems can make their own antibodies.

daholster · 06/10/2014 19:12

Oh dear posted too soon sorry! The vaccine is fairly newly used in pregnancy so there isn't much info about long term effects yet (well, any really). But there's lots about the vaccine from 2 months and its been used safely for decades.

Be careful what you read about I hrediwbts and autism etc etc and take it with a pinch of salt. If you are really worried you could ask the midwife for the exact vaccine name so you could get ingredients and look them up, but there are a lot of stirrers about and the amounts of some of the ingredients ppl talk about are miniscule or even no longer exist in the current vaccines.

Gather all the info you can and feel comfy with what you choose, you could regard it as a risk either way. But looking at my dd (I was in the first cohort, 2012) I'm glad I had it, she's perfect. Good luck with your researching! I'd be interested to know what you find out.

daholster · 06/10/2014 19:13

Lol hrediwbts = ingredients!!! Hm! Hmm

catsofa · 06/10/2014 19:21

Re: dentists, mine said they'd just take my word for it that I was pregnant, which I found a bit odd but since you don't I think get the MATB1 certificate until 22 weeks perhaps that's how it always works? I have an appointment for 10:30 tomorrow anyway so I'll let people know if it is free, maybe we could all have been getting free dentists all this time by pretending to be pregnant?!

Vaccines obviously they do not offer vaccines unless the risk of being unvaccinated is much greater than the risk of any side effects, so it's very nearly always a much better idea to take the vaccines offered than to miss them - the calculations are already done for you. Unless you have any specific condition etc that makes your risk unusual in same way of course, but then discussing this with the doctor should mean they can advise you on how your particular risk stacks up. The things they vaccinate against are very very serious, and risks of serious side effects are very very low. That's why they do it.

tryinghard2 · 06/10/2014 19:23

haha catsofa i had to show the card at the dentists :)

TinyTear · 06/10/2014 19:47

It's a giiiiiiirl!
Got my harmony results with the sex

Lauren82000 · 06/10/2014 19:54

Wow I take it you wanted a girl TinyTear? Girls are so much fun, I'm not a girly girl and as much as I tried to be gender neutral with DD she still turned into a pink loving disney princess. Confused Just put new princess bedding on her bed and she told me she loved it and loved me very much. (She's 3 btw)

cinnamongreyhound · 06/10/2014 19:57

Sorry x post earlier Bitchpeas, lovely pics. Glad you're feelinf a bit more positive and hope you're feeling back to your normal self soon! Ours was very good, she said I will find the baby and get my bearings and then tell you what I'm seeing but as soon as se found baby she said there's a good heartbeat.

Catsofa the matb1 is for maternity pay the form for prescriptions and dentist is a different one and I got it my booking appointment, it says on the form it's valid for a month before they get it so if you send it soon you will be able to claim your money back if they do charge you!

I disagree about things not being offered unless the alternative is worse, look at thalidomide that was offered to so many women with disasterous consequences.

With whooping cough they will not be immune until a while after the second jab so I can see there's quite a window of risk but with high uptake of the vaccine in babies I see the risk as quite low. Having said that vaccines are expensive so the nhs must feel that that cost is off set by the number of babies that won't get ill.

Congrats TinyTear!

TinyTear · 06/10/2014 20:04

Ha yes Lauren
I have a 2y8m one already... Trying to keep away but she asked me for let it.go on YouTube... Must have heard of it at the nursery...

At least she loves octonauts and fireman Sam for balance...

MissV84 · 06/10/2014 20:09

Congrats Tinytear! How lovely. Good luck for scans in next few days and must echo the 'tell then ur scared' advice - I did this too and she tried to be as quick as poss to reassure re heartbeat.

Janey I hope ur ok - I feel very sympathetic to you re the feeling overwhelmed as I've felt similar and it's so important to tell people how ur feeling. Saying that I don't know how useful its been as I do feel as stressed as ever Hmm and have similar feelings of 'I can't do this' at work.... Try to stay rested and take comfort in the fact that we're bound to feel overwhelmed as our bodies are in overdrive!

Anyone else feeling anxious about lack of bump ? I can't see anything when I lie on my back / suck stomach in and I'm desperate for some kind of physical sign ... 20 week scan seems YEARS away!!!

catsofa · 06/10/2014 20:10

Hmm, I've already had my booking in appt and didn't get a form, so hoping I won't be charged tomorrow. They did say over the phone that it'd be ok. I'll maybe take my scan appointment letter and notes so at least I have something to show - though of course nobody has officially actually checked that I am pregnant at all, so maybe they did mean that the charge could be refunded rather than that I wouldn't be charged.

MissV84 · 06/10/2014 20:10

Also bitchpeas I really feel for u, my sister had hyperemises in both her pregnancies so I remember the horror - hope ur ok and being looked after xx

cinnamongreyhound · 06/10/2014 20:11

Can you feel a hardness of you poke your belly MissV84? I couldn't see anything for ages with my other two but I'm 5st lighter this time and on my back there is a definite bump but it's very small and I'm 14 weeks now.

MissV84 · 06/10/2014 20:13

Cinnamon no I can't Hmm I feel a bit porgy/bloated but no hard bump at all and I'm 14 + 4 - where is this baby???

cinnamongreyhound · 06/10/2014 20:23

Might get it at your 16 week appoitnemnt Catsofa. I don't remember getting it so early last time!

Wineandchoccy · 06/10/2014 20:27

I've told my parents tonight they are thrilled, Dad cried and Mum gave me some baby grows because she had already guessed Grin

It feels very real now people know, I rang my brother to tell him he is going to be an Uncle and he said about time as well, he is 11 years older than me so it's about time I made him an uncle at 44! My 9 year old nephew asked if it's a girl will we call it Martha, no idea where he has heard it but I quite like it.

Told my boss as well today and he was lovely I am so relived because I was dreading telling them because I work in a really small team and I know it will be a nightmare covering my work but he said it's his job to worry about that.

I have my flu jab tomorrow evening and I booked my 16 week appointment and picked up my bounty pack so it's been a very busy day Smile

littleluna89 · 06/10/2014 20:45

stuntman yes, you will need to have it again in order for baby to be covered, I'm in the same position and the midwife confirmed it with me at booking. That reminds me I need to get my ass into gear and got my flu jab, whooping cough won't be till 28 weeks, and they won't let me book that quite this far in advance.

Lauren82000 · 06/10/2014 20:47

I have the beginnings of a bump when I stuck everything in it doesn't all go in. (Basically can't see my lady bits anymoreBlush) when I'm lying down I have the beginnings of something just inside my hip bone nothing visible in the middle yet but it is firm and can easily feel uterus.

I didn't get a bump till I was almost 18w with DD and that was just a small one couldn't even tell with clothes on.

Stuntman · 06/10/2014 20:59

Annia with the whooping cough vaccine given in pregnancy there is a theoretical risk that the child won't develop as good an immune response when given the vaccine after birth since he or she will already have antibodies to it. Clearly the NHS believes the very real risk of a newborn contracting whooping cough outweighs the theoretical risk that the rate of whooping cough in older children (when it isn't as life threatening) will increase fractionally. Having said that they've been giving this vaccine for a couple of years now so there must be some additional evidence from when I last had it in 2012.

I wonder if a bump or at least detectable uterus is to do with those of us who've had more than one baby?

BananaToast · 06/10/2014 21:48

Congrats TinyTear - that's two girls and no boys so far on this thread!

I can't feel my uterus yet at all but am not expecting to this early as it's retroverted and from what I've read online it won't right itself until about 13 weeks when it gets big enough to rise out of the pelvis. Keep having a good poke around to see if I can feel it though.

Thanks all for advice on telling the sonographer about nerves, will definitely do that in the hope they reassure me quickly! In early scans it has felt like forever waiting for them to tell me there's a heartbeat when they start looking.

HippoPottyMouth · 06/10/2014 22:47

Congratulations tinytear, that's fab, girls are ace Smile

Have we got a separate stats thread that I've completely missed or have the stats fallen to the wayside?

Hi everyone!
been absent for a while due to being so ill, and then took me a while to catch up! lol lovely scan pics to those that have shared recently! They are starting to look so human like! :D lol mine was still very creature-ish around 9 weeks when i got to see him/her haha so it's killing me to have to wait for my 20 week scan to see that cute little silhouette look that they are all getting now!
