Don't worry daholster, I'm not easily offended! Got 14 weeks to decide but I've had whooping cough vaccine therefore have antibodies in my system to pass on to baby. I'm not anti vaccines at all, my boys have had all of theirs just not see this one is really necessary.

Just got my letter from the hospital and baby has less than 1 in 10,000 risk of Down's syndrome. And they wish me a very happy healthy pregnancy :)

ThereMustAndShallBeTea · 06/10/2014 14:20

Welcome TinyTears :) I have my 12 week scan tomorrow too, 24 hours and counting ...

Am I the only one embracing my greys?!

minipie · 06/10/2014 14:33

I never had any paperwork last time from my GP, and haven't this time either.

I think insofar as you are having GP appointments, you need to book them yourself (that's how it worked for me anyway!)

AnniaFausta · 06/10/2014 14:36

Thanks everyone about paperwork - what I think I'm waiting for (or what the nurse who booked me in told me to look out for) were things like the certificates that entitle me to free prescriptions, dental care, etc. I've got all the stuff about appointments and so on from the midwives, but as I was told something should be in the post and it hasn't been, I'm a bit curious!

TinyTear · 06/10/2014 14:46

ah that is the midwife that fills it out!

I need to ask mine next time as I want it for the dentist... i have free prescriptions anyway because of my thyroid, but the dentist isn't included in that

cinnamongreyhound · 06/10/2014 14:47

I got my form for free prescriptions at my booking appointment.

HippoPottyMouth · 06/10/2014 14:53

Ooh I was going to ask about jabs too. Had forgotten the whooping cough one was now recommended, is everyone getting the flu jab too?

I think my main concern is that I don't like jabs but I am umming and ahhing about it for some reason. I had flu jab in last pregnancy though.

OP posts:
Lauren82000 · 06/10/2014 15:21

All this talk of jabs reminded me I needed to book DDs boosters, I was told they don't have any flu vaccines atm so when I go next week for her jabs I can book us both in then.

Stuntman · 06/10/2014 15:46

Do you have to have the whooping cough vaccine if you've already had it? In had it in 2012.

Lauren82000 · 06/10/2014 15:59

Your probably ok but I'd ring the mw/gp to double check. I think it's because most of us haven't had it since we were kids. We're a long way off needing it anyway. Was is it 28weeks you can have it from?

AnniaFausta · 06/10/2014 16:10

Lauren, 28 weeks is what the texts I'm getting from my GP's surgery say (!).

BananaToast · 06/10/2014 16:17

I'm going to have whatever they recommend, so will have flu and whooping cough whenever they tell me to.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/10/2014 17:19

Whooping cough is at 28 weeks, as I believe that the optimal time to pass best immunity into the baby and it can apparently protect up to when the baby is 6 months. The flu one is at some point I don't think it matters when.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/10/2014 17:24

Posted too soon! I had an American book with ds1 and it said to have a flu jab, when I asked the midwife so looked at me as though I had said I wanted to stab my belly with a bread knife! She said that it was not necessary and could be dangerous so things has obviously changed in that time.

These threads move so fast! Hello again, I was on the first thread but have only been lurking since then due to being an utter misery with hyperseremisis that shows no signs of easing up and being worried about the scans (previous TFMR)

But I have had my 12 week scan today, officially 12+1 EDD 19th April. 3 scans down, and two more to go (16 weeks and 20 weeks) till I find out everything is ok for sure, but I am feeling a bit more positive.

Is anyone any good with the nub theory? I have a feeling I know but don't really know what I'm looking at, these are two pics from this morning.

They were promoting the nasal flu vaccine on BBC breakfast this morning and saying they are also extending it to 4 yo's. Ds2 had it last year with no probs. I've had flu once and was also in bed for a week. The problem with the flu jab is that it is based on probability. They include several strains that are most likely to occur that year and if they get it wrong and there's a different strain it provides no protection at all.

BananaToast · 06/10/2014 18:00

Yes my midwife said they're not doing flu jabs just yet but she would strongly recommend getting it done when available, so I'll go with it. Never had one before.

Great scan pics BitchPeas, sorry you've been so poorly. I'm not bed good with nub theory and can't identify a clear nub in your pics but someone with more experience may be able to!

As the day has gone on I have become completely terrified about my scan on Friday. Keep worrying that there will be something wrong and it feels so long to wait. I know worrying doesn't help but know that doesn't stop me! Just can't wait for it to come and fingers crossed see everything is ok.

AnniaFausta · 06/10/2014 18:07

Banana, if it's any consolation I'm getting myself worked up about my nuchal on Wednesday too... very glad my mum is free to come with me as OH took off work to come to the first (too early) one and wants to save future time off for other things that need doing. At least there will be somebody to hold my hand!

Lauren82000 · 06/10/2014 18:09

Urg felt grim all afternoon and had more stretching. Just want to sleep now I'm home from work don't think I can be bothered cooking tea. Might see if DH will do it as well as bath and bed for DD. Wink I know he wouldn't but might be worth an ask. Least I managed to put DDs preschool uniform in the wash so she will at least have something to wear tomorrow.

dancestomyowntune · 06/10/2014 18:16

BitchPeas looking at yours I think girl, but I'm no expert and don't really know if I'm looking at the right thing!

Care to take a guess at mine?

daholster · 06/10/2014 18:20

Interesting, I was recommended the flu jab when pregnant and have had it this weekend.

cinnamon phew! You need it again I believe - it's about boosting the antibodies at the right time to pass to the foetus for their newborn period.

daholster · 06/10/2014 18:41

Last winter the neonatal infection rate of whooping cough causing death halved after the introduction of the whooping cough vaccine to prenant women at 28-32 weeks. This cut the death rate from 14 to 8. Sadly, 7 mothers of the 8 babies that died hadn't been vaccinated because they didn't want to put their baby at risk from the jab. Get your vaccines ladies!

BitchPeas · 06/10/2014 18:42

dances I'm thinking girl for you, as it's not pointing up? I'm not very good at this though so I could be looking at the wrong thing!!

I think girl for mine, hopefully they will tell me at the 16 week scan.

Banana and Annia I was crying before I went in today and told her straight away about how worried I was, she was lovely and said she would tell me straight away that there was a heartbeat. She kept chatting to me the whole way through and was very quick and positive. Not like some other ones that I've had who silently stare at the screen for a lifetime leaving you in suspense.

If you tell them before they should make an effort to put you at ease ASAP.

AnniaFausta · 06/10/2014 18:44

daholster, do you know anything about the risks posed to the baby by the mum having the whooping cough jab? Or indeed from the flu jab? Does anybody? All the stuff I can find atm seems to be about the side effects for the mother, which is all well and good but I'd like a bit more information. (I am generally pro-vaccine, but I'm the sort of person who likes as much information to hand as possible before making decisions. Ah, the problems with doing research as part of the day job.)
