Oooo I just came on to ask if anyone has felt any movement! I'm sat at my desk and I swear I felt something... I'm 14+2 so I guess it's possible. I can't really remember when I felt movements with DD but I think it was a bit later than this. Soooo exciting! It's like he's saying a little hello (I don't know that it's a boy, of course, but in my mind it's a 'he'!)

I have used reusable nappies too, with DS from age 1 and DD from about 3 months. Found they didn't fit well until DD was in equivalent size 3 disposable nappies. We used all in ones, as DH couldn't cope with folding! Paper inserts catch the poo and you just plop it all in the loo, easier than emptying the potty if its a slimy one...

They are expensive new. We saved LOADS by buying second hand at £1 per pair. They were more of a faff compared to disposables but the extra money saved was well worth it for us, particularly for the first 9 months when we had both kids in nappies!

Wineandchoccy · 03/10/2014 19:01

Very very happy and so relieved to say my scan was ok and there is a baby growing in there Grin

After my mmc in April I was terrified it would happen again but it is good news this time.

I cried before we went in I had got myself in a right state, sonographer was lovely though and very quickly told us there was a baby and a healthy heartbeat. It wouldn't keep still though so nuchal measurement took ages but she managed in the end and it's 1.2mm.

daholster we are due date buddies as I am also 12w + 3 days and now due on the 14th April.

Oh and DH burst into tears when he saw the baby Grin

cinnamon we use reusables during the day. we use either a fleece reusable liner that we flush the poo off or a disposable liner that we chuck away, we figured that it at least creates less rubbish :/ depends on the state of her tummy. I found so many gooooorgeous nappies and had to leave all the Facebook selling pages in the end because I seriously lack self control :P Second hand tend to be more absorbent and cheeper!

Great news Wineandchoccy!

Lauren82000 · 03/10/2014 19:35

My only concerns with reusables is that we don't have a tumble dryer so surely they will be like cardboard and I hate washing at the best of times without having to wash nappies and worry about getting them dry in the house.

BrixtonBunny · 03/10/2014 20:27

Evening ladies! I'm already in bed with a horribly sore throat and painful ears / head - feel like pregnancy is just one illness on top of another! Poor DP is on hot lemon and honey duty.

But good news is that we got our scan letter back and we were low risk for everything, which was great. Very relieved now!

13 + 2

BrixtonBunny · 03/10/2014 20:28

Ps should I be thinking about stuff like nappies yet? It all seems so far away still - maybe I'm just kidding myself though! X

dancestomyowntune · 03/10/2014 20:29

cinnamon are you sure buggies no longer sell in the UK? I'm sure our local Morrison's still do them!

LadyNovember · 03/10/2014 20:29

SquattingNeville..I do hope DS is 2 or 20 months and not actually 20 and just starting potty training Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 03/10/2014 20:29

From what I've read they are fine to air dry. Ive seen all the second hand ones but still pricey. Ds1 had explosive nappies at least twice a day but ds2 only used to PPP every 7-10 days before I started weaning him Grin

So pleased for you WineandChoccy!! I was nearly in tears before mine and I haven't ever had a mmc so I can imagine how you were feeling. Hopefully you can relax now and will be able to enjoy your 20wk scan :)

cinnamongreyhound · 03/10/2014 20:30

Not sure why my phone autocorrected poo to PPP?!? Confused

Yes dancestomyowntune, our tesco don't have them so thought I'd try boots but I checked their website. They only sell pull ups, dry nites and wipes now :(

I missed loads of posts when I posted earlier Confused

littleluna89 · 03/10/2014 21:52

squatting We bought a lot of kits before we settled, we have tonnes of the two part bambino mio stuff that we don't really use but got it all super cheap, thing the whole lot cost us less than £80. we found the miosolo's which are pretty fab though we put an extra booster in them. they tend to be about £10-£15 each to buy individually but there are kits we have about 10 of those. I have a few work at home mum ones that were about £30 each, but gorgeous. Wee notions are great too, but again about £30.

We have a tumbler but I don't put them through it very often. the one thing I would say is use powder not liquid when washing them, liquid tends to build up and make them whiffy.

There are several places that do trial kits so you can a have a play and see what's the best fit.

Lauren82000 · 03/10/2014 22:07

Sad to hear that about huggies. Their newborn was the only one that fit DD without looking stupid and I liked them much better over Pampers which she was mildly allergic to. I'll have to buy a box of everything this time to try before bulk buying. Hmm

sazzle82G · 03/10/2014 22:21

Ooo interesting to hear about reusable nappies. I really like the idea of them I think. Less waste and I was hoping they'd work out cheaper. How many do you tend to need in one size? £15 is pretty pricey.

ThereMustAndShallBeTea · 03/10/2014 22:31

Checking in - 12 weeks today :) and have our scan on Tuesday next week.

Been a bit anxious but finally managed to track down my doppler yesterday and think Confused I've found the heartbeat.

It's NCT nearly new season at the bit - they usually have a few bits and bobs of maternity stuff. Great for nursery equipment etc too. My SIL bought loads of bundle of maternity stuff off ebay - always got something weird chucked in the mix but you're not going to wear it all that long in the greater scheme of things. Maternity stuff probably won't fit yet, some trousers with yoga style top are a good buy (for post-birth as well, when the bump's mainly gone but nothing fits).

Definitely recommend second hand cloth too. Best advice is to get a few different brands to try as they all fit slightly differently. For my first baby I loved Bum Genius but got fed up as the elastic/velcro tends to go quite quickly, so had a huge stash for #2 and quite an eclectic mix for #3. Oh, and I've never had a tumble drier! Most aren't terry these days. (Outside line helps though.)

ThereMustAndShallBeTea · 03/10/2014 22:37

Ooh, missed lots of posts :)

Sazzle you can get nappies that are BTP ("birth to potty") - might be a little large/small at either end of the scale but are adjustable as your baby grows. They tend to be more expensive than sized nappies but obviously you just need to buy one lot.

Don't forget you can also resell cloth nappies once you've finished with them so recoup some of the costs (or use with more than one baby). I've just made a couple of hundred pounds selling off the ones I won't be using with #3.

I've treated myself to a Snugglbundle off of ebay and I'm all set! Feels a bit odd Confused

Wineandchoccy · 04/10/2014 07:31

My 12w + 3 scan photo it's not very clear because it wouldn't behave and kept doing back flips and putting hands and feet near its head!

It feels a whole lot more real this morning, we are actually having a baby in 6 months Grin going to start telling people today it's weird that up to now it's been our secret yet by the end of the week everyone will probably know.

Has anybody used Aldi or Lidls nappies? My brother and SIL and friend both swapped from Pampers to Aldi nappies and really liked them.

20 week scan booked for 21st November and I'm rhesus negative so need anti D at 28 weeks.

We used reusable nappies with dd - totsbots. We bought a bundle at the baby show. We bought easyfit (one size fits all) but dd was 6lb 6 and they were too leaky until she reached about 9lb to be honest. Confused Then when she hit about 7 months old her legs were chunky and the nappies seemed to cut into her and the Velcro rubbed her tummy sometimes, I felt so guilty seeing the marks. Also she has sensitive skin and started getting nappy rash - and the only way to fix it was disposables overnight and then on and off during the day... Eventually we kept having to switch to disposables for days at the time and we just gave up. I was sad about it, but she was happier.

Having said that our friend uses Bambino Mio and a selection of others and is very happy (she uses lots of fleecey boosters for her mammoth wee-er!) She has no probe with rash at all and doesn't use cream. I wish we had trialled a few of each before buying the bulk deal we did.

So that's one of my tips, trial a few then choose the best. And eBay is fine for reusable nappies, according to my friend, its where she bought most if hers. You save money in the long run, we did the maths, since they should (ahem) last through to potty training.

Secondly, one size firs all ones are not necessarily all they are cracked up to be.

And lastly, yes you have to wash nappies every day or every other day, but the poo thing is fine (flushable liners if you like, that's what we did, it gets most of it) but they look so darn cute!!!

Oh, and wineandchoccy Grin

12+4

daholster · 04/10/2014 07:43

Oh, and we sold ours on eBay for loads of money... We had about 20 nappies in total and some patterns went for £50 a piece... Second hand!!! Shock

cinnamongreyhound · 04/10/2014 07:54

Me too Wineandchoccy, needed it after birth with both too as they are + like their dad :(

A couple of my mindees have been in Aldi, they're ok but don't wick the wee away like the gel nappies (pampers and huggies). Probably better for the environment though!
