morning all
cactus- hope you get it sorted out- surely your midwife could just give you the damn form! Don't really get why you're not 'allowed' it if you don't work

I had a bit of a melt down yesterday- realised that because my DH will be going to work for the family biz in January, he won't have worked long enough to qualify for the additional paternity leave that I really really wanted him to have (wanted him to take two months off after I went back, and have harped on about how important I feel it is to about a million people). I then cried for about 2 hours down the phone to him- I felt it was the first major baby decision I'd made and I'd already mucked it up!

Upshot is (hopefully, after a bit of discussion with his dad), he'll do two months part time which means that he'll get a bit of daddy-bonding time and I won't lose my enhanced maternity pay. My eyes look like tiny prawns today, and I'm feeling like I possibly overreacted a bit!- well done lovely DH for finding a solution- looking forward to a big cuddle when I get home from my conference

Memphis it's one of the biggest lies I was told about pregnancy, that it's a magical time of glowing and happiness. If you say otherwise, there are a legion of women waiting to tell you you're being ungrateful.

February feels like the longest time away.

That's really mean of your husband's work Cactus, you'd think they'd accept something else like a consultant letter - I'm sure most dads don't need to produce the MATB1 form to get their paternity leave.

I'm feeling a bit stressed at the moment - it's getting close to the time when things went pear-shaped in my last pg and I had to spend several weeks in hospital with unexplained heavy bleeding and had steroids as they were sure baby was going to be v early. It turned out fine & my son was born at term, but I'm worried something will happen when I'm in work.

Memphisbelly · 09/10/2014 10:25

bangles you are allowed to meltdown you are pg and this is something you felt strongly about.

frenetic my mum loved being pg but was petrified of birth where I am not bothered by birth. I just feel cheated as a small minority do enjoy it and i want to

donkir · 09/10/2014 11:16

Feel like rubbish today. Can't seem to shake this cold off. Turned in to a nice cough now so I've stocked up on cough sweets. Sod's law as I've booked in for flu jab next week.

Viperama · 09/10/2014 11:45

Hello from under the duvet - my sister has arrived this morning hallelujah! Our long haired cat made her feel welcome by barfing up a hair ball for her to clean, nice one cat lol!
Huuuuuge cold sore, but good news is docs approved my compeed patch which is the only thing that seems to work once I have one. And I just read that getting one in pregnancy makes baby immune. First good news I've had in weeks!
8 days since my emergency cervical stitch and so far so good.

Lovely to hear news of scans and that the girls are slowly catching the boys.

BanglesSpangles · 09/10/2014 11:48

Thanks memphis :)

Ditto donkir- I'm definitely reconsidering my flu jab- was pretty against the idea, but I didn't realise how shagged my immune system would be in pregnancy-I'd be utterly buggered if I actually got the flu!

donkir · 09/10/2014 12:01

Bangles I'm normally immune to pretty much anything as worked with children for so long I very rarely get ill. Think being pregnant has knocked my immune system a bit. I hate being ill.

JacktheLab · 09/10/2014 13:52

Bored bored bored, ten weeks and one day till I finish for maternity leave....

Grinningcat · 09/10/2014 14:33

I'm planning on starting maternity leave in the beginning of Feb as I'm not due until the 21st, but I am planning to have lots of 4 day weeks leading up to that. I have worked out that I only have 7 full working weeks left to get through! Hurrah!

Minichuch · 09/10/2014 14:53

I'm planning to work till mid feb - not due till end feb and I'm never on time for anything so junior is guaranteed to be late - but drop down to 3 days a week at start of feb - I can luckily also work from home so fingers crossed I'm well enough to put that plan into action but work have been really good and said if need to finish earlier then not a prob, also said if I'm getting tired during day then I can leave early as well

Grinningcat · 09/10/2014 15:18

My work is really good too. I'm working from home today and I've been told by my manager to use common sense when travelling to other offices and keep it to a minimum even though I'm not having any particular pregnancy issues. Mind you my boss has 5 kids so is maybe more understanding than others Grin.

BanglesSpangles · 09/10/2014 16:49

I'm planning on going at the start of Feb- around week 38, with the proviso that if im struggling or being crap I'll go earlier. My boss, as brilliant as she is, had been a bit disapproving of the girl in my office who's just started her mat leave- she's been really suffering for about a month now and her minds not been on the job.

Boss confessed she would have liked to have 'suggested' to her that she went off a fortnight ago but isn't allowed to, so instead we've had to muddle through, pick up her work and now she's gone off two days earlier than planned without a proper handover...

Consequently I've promised to myself if I can't cope, I'm not going to bust a gut to stay till 38 weeks- I'll just have to take holiday or stay my mat leave earlier than planned. And my handover notes are almost finished already anyway!

sandulacek · 09/10/2014 17:21

I was planning on working till the end of January but things might change now. I will have to have discussion with the consultant about when and how.
But my boss was pretty good before saying I could work some days from home.

Memphisbelly · 09/10/2014 17:47

Jack....not counting then Wink

Im so tired, I keep saying sorry to dh amd he keeps telling me off. I say 'I don't understand why I feel crap' and he says 'errrr stop saying sorry....you sre pregnant!' Grin

Cooking dauphinoise potato/squash with chicken en croute..... i can feel the heartburn already!

One of my customers has a baby called Boscoe he came round today and he is beautiful, such a smiler and made my heart melt...gave me a boost as ai kept thinking I will have one soon! (Also totally love his name)

cactusnic · 09/10/2014 18:46

DP has emailed HR (on Tues) to see what we can do. He's not heard anything back from them yet though. Thankfully i've got an appt at 24 weeks, so i can attempt again to get the MATB1, before the 25 week limit his work wish.

tonightsthekindofnight · 09/10/2014 19:55

Wow 4 arms and 4 legs all wriggling at once is starting to feel really bizarre! My lovely assistant at work asked if she could have a feel and when they kicked her she started crying and got all emotional, was really sweet.

My midwife has said I will be induced the first week of January if hopefully I get that far. I am planning to work till the end of December which is only 11 weeks, eek!! I don't know how feasible that will be, don't really know any twin mums to ask!

It's funny how many comments I get on my bump size. Some say I huge, look full term etc and then others keep saying how neat I am. Either way I wish people would stop it, makes me so uncomfortable when they eye me up and down!!

I have got all of my baby clothes out from my other two and started to wash and iron etc. I know it's still really early but I want to try and do as much as possible. I'm really pleased to find loads of newborn white stuff in good condition (some brand new!). Don't think I will have too much to buy as I am not particularly bothered about them matching! I'm all about the easy option.

Starting to feel really nervous about coping with two newborns and my daughter who will be 20 months! Am thinking a sling might be handy for me about the house. Anyone any experience/recommendations?

Memphisbelly · 09/10/2014 20:06

Tonightsthe awww sounds amazing! I reckon if you are feeling ok you can carry on as late as you want to.
Re clothes I think you are wise not bothering about matching, you will get some matching gifts I reckon but when in thr newborn blur it would just be an accomplishment to have them both dressed and clean Grin

freneticfox · 09/10/2014 21:20

Guys, what does ligament pain feel like?

Started getting slight twinges under my bump to one side, kind of feels like a stitch. Naturally the first timer in me is panicking blindly. The rational part of me is trying to remember that aches and pains are normal...

LittleMissSunshine33 · 09/10/2014 21:30

Sorry to hear some of you haven't been feeling great. I have to say I sound more like your mum Memphis touchwood so far I've loved pregnancy but have so many fears about labour!! Think it's the unknown!

Does anyone know how many weeks notice you have to give work before you leave for maternity?

Memphisbelly · 09/10/2014 22:12

Littlemiss my mum sat at home sobbing begging dad not to take her in she was that scared......didn't stop her having 3 though Grin my thoughts on labour are it is going to hurt, but it is going to happen so there is no point in worrying yourself sbout it.....also the pain does stop as soon as baby is out.....and it is all worth it Grin

Frenetic I am 24+3 and I had this pain on my upper left side like bad stitch 2 weeks ago, It did pass and I was told it is normal at around 22 ish weeks as uterus then goes above belly button so its everything stretching. Not got that pain now though so hoping yours passes too.

I snapped at dh tonight about him falling asleep and not doing washing up and then he said he wants a treehouse for ds (our garden is tiny, with no tree and over looked) so I said maybe before thinking up silly ideas he could do the list of jobs that NEED doing.....hormonal wife alert Grin

blankfornames · 10/10/2014 04:29

Frenetic, I had a pain similar to yours a week ago. It was to the bottom right, quite low down. It went after about 2 days. I didn't do anything about it as it didn't feel like a 'bad pain', iyswim.
I'm going off at Christmas. I have a commute of 1hr 15mins by car so not going to do that when I get very big!
Crazy early time here, pregnancy insomnia still with me, this morning woke up before 4 with a nose bleed..never a dull moment!

hanflan · 10/10/2014 09:23

frenetic Yep a stitch is exactly what it feels like! I get it loads on my bottom right if I walk too fast to work! Nothing to worry about, it just means take it easy and stick your feet up for a while ;)

hanflan · 10/10/2014 09:24

Bottom right of my bump, that is. Not on my bottom haha

freneticfox · 10/10/2014 10:53

Yeah definitely think I have ligament pain! I'm on bed rest again until I get to see a physio (hopefully next week) so plenty of time to recuperate. It's a pain literally and figuratively but hey... I only get one shot to do this pregnancy right so not taking any chances with a body I already know has its problems!
