I've used an online calculator a couple of times coaster this one for example www.babycenter.com/pregnancy-weight-gain-estimator sorry, not sure hot to do links. But if you google pregnancy weight gain calculator you may find a few. I did loose with MS, now at 18 weeks today I am still down a few pounds, midwife was not bothered in the slightest.

I too suspect that I will loose more than I gain until baby gets heavy due to the missing alcohol calories.

smokeandglitter · 22/09/2014 17:12

It needs to be less about weight and more about nutrition. If you are eating the right amount of calories (only an increase of 200 in last trimester so currently normal amount) and a balanced diet with fruit and veg for vits etc then you are fine.

I have struggled with an ED for over 10 years and have gained loads since being pregnant because my body is not used to eating a 'normal' amount of calories. I have just got to 18.5 which is within 'normal'. Don't worry about weight, especially at this early stage. We're all different. Some women gain only a few pounds and some gain a lot naturally. This is what I keep repeating to myself despite feeling huge and gross anyway

PickledPorcupine · 22/09/2014 18:43

Gudgy love the names but just thought I'd mention Lucas Scott is a character in one tree hill. Might not make any difference to you but just thought I'd say it now in case you find out after! I asked my dh what he thinks of the name Luca Scott and he said 'like on one tree hill'. He always tried to convince me he wasn't watching, secret fan!!

I was worried about weight too as I've put on nothing at 15+ weeks but agree with smoke that a balanced diet is more important and the mw isn't concerned at all.

I think I am caught up with facebook requests - check your emails (and spam) for an invite :)

I know I shared this in the fb group too, but I'm blogging about this pregnancy so I can attempt to keep a record of it! anotherbun1.blogspot.co.uk/

I love the name Leo. I would have had it for ds but a friend nicked it. Grr

With dd I put on 3 stone and with ds only 1. I think as long as you feel healthy and well not to get too obsessed. Depends on your life style and your diet anyway. Food is so difficult anyway sometimes the extra calories only in your 3rd trimester makes it worse.

coastergirl · 22/09/2014 23:34

Newbie question here. I'm just looking at getting baby some basics for the first few days. Not getting much because we know family will buy us loads as soon as baby is born and they know the sex! I'm getting a bit confused with the full sleepsuits, long-sleeved bodysuits, short-sleeved bodysuits, and vests! What do you use when?! I know this probably seems stupid, but I genuinely haven't a clue! Other than that, I've got a couple of cute little sleepsuits but that's it so far.

Surfsup1 · 23/09/2014 00:49

Nice names Gudgy!

We have a Leo and I still love his name. I like Luca and Levi too.

Not that my opinion really matters, but you husband does have a point re moving. It's far easier to move when pregnant than it is once you have a little baby and if you can afford a second bedroom then I reckon the extra space will be invaluable. I would have gone mental in a 1 bedroom once DS1 was born and I'm not sure DH would have been able to hold down his job!

Surfsup1 · 23/09/2014 00:58

Butterpuff I flew to Australia and back when I was 5.5months pregnant with DS2 and I have low blood pressure too. It was totally fine. Exhausting but fine.

lotsoftoast · 23/09/2014 06:28

coaster for a march baby, you will probably start off with a long sleeved vest/bodysuit with a long sleeved sleepsuit on top. As the weather warms up, a short sleeved vest/bodysuit, with a sleepsuit, up to sleeveless vests with a 'romper' (short sleeves, footless) when it's very warm. You will soon figure it out - I wouldn't bother buying anything but long sleeve vests and sleepsuits in newborn sizes anyway as they probably won't wear anything but that the first wee while

Butter I'm flying long haul in a few weeks. The midwife just said to make sure I'm moving around the plane every hour. I did tell her we're flying for 30+ hours each way so I'll need to sleep and well not move for a bit. She said moving's more important! I'm going to be exhausted!

fishfingerSarnies · 23/09/2014 07:29

I'd buy sleep suits and some short sleeve vests to go under and a couple of cardigan jumper things to go on top if it's chilly. And remember they can quite easily go through 4+ outfits a day, what with sicking up and explosive poo!

Rainbow555 · 23/09/2014 07:30

I'm flying to uk on Thursday! 15weeks today, mw said drink heaps of water, move regularly get sleep if I can, wear flights socks else I'll be really swollen by time I get off ( I always wear them anyway) other than that should fine, oh and lots of snacks!

coastergirl · 23/09/2014 08:20

Thanks for the advice guys. Makes sense!

Butterpuff · 23/09/2014 09:13

Thanks for the reassurance surf, porcupine and rainbow guess I will just have to keep moving, I usually wake very often if I sleep at all so will have to have a little wander each time.

coaster I'm impressed your buying already we are going for head in sand method and will have a last minute buy in the January sales I think Grin

Surfsup1 · 23/09/2014 09:32

Get some compression socks for the long-haul flights. For a 30 hour flight you HAVE to get plenty of sleep. Just get up and go for a stroll around the cabin in between sleeps and jiggle your feet while sitting. Unless you already have high blood pressure you'll be fine!

Butterpuff · 23/09/2014 09:54

Flight socks check, and luckily, just been told its low blood pressure so that's better than the reverse. Better check my travel insurance too I guess. Thanks.

persepolis123 · 23/09/2014 10:33

Back from a lovely week in the Netherlands and feeling refreshed. Have only read the last couple of pages of the thread, will try to catch up later.

I was overweight to start with and have put on 1.5 pounds so far. The midwife gave me a leaflet on weight gain in pregnancy and it says if you were already overweight then you should try to limit weight gain to 6kg which is about a stone. It says that there are no official guidelines though and the emphasis should be more on eating a balanced diet.

gudgy they are all nice names. I think Nico is cool.

I think we have a name sorted if it's a boy but will struggle for girls names. We had agreed on Ava but DP changed his mind Sad Other names we both like are Anisa and Eliana but so far we have found nothing that both of us love.

M27J5M · 23/09/2014 10:46

Lots of toast - sorry I've totally left you to the fb stuff on here! Barely been on here, been busy with packing to move! Promise I'll be about more and actually do my share once I'm moved xxxxx

coastergirl · 23/09/2014 10:52

persepolis I know SO many little girls called Ava. Not sure whether that's a consideration for you or not, but thought I'd mention it.

Jealous of those who have a name sorted already! I can see us being those parents who still don't have a name a couple of weeks after birth! We have enough trouble naming our pets.

persepolis123 · 23/09/2014 11:10

I know Ava is popular but I love it and it works well in both countries where our families live. DP has decided against it though.

Anyway going by the nub theory it shouldn't be a problem because it looks like a boy so perhaps we will just wait until we find out the gender.

KeeperOfTheZoo · 23/09/2014 11:13

Just caught up on here after a few days of not having chance to log on. Still trying to sort out the insurance claims for DH's wedding ring (form being sent off today/tomorrow) and the kicked-in front door on our rental property (insurance company were supposed to ring me back last week but didn't, now I can't get them to answer the phone - grrr!!!)

Also trying to get ourselves sorted for our week away to Jersey next week. Still need to arrange travel insurance but apart form that I think we're getting there.

I think we've finally decided what to do re: finding out the sex - and we're not going to. I loved the element of surprise last time, and had planned for DH to find out first then tell me but everything went wrong and that didn't happen so we'll try to aim for that again this time round. The only reason we would've found out would have been so that we could talk to DS about his "baby brother" or "baby sister" but he's only 2 so has limited understanding of what's going on anyway so we'll just refer to it as "our baby" and he will still be "big brother".

Rainbow555 · 23/09/2014 11:33

Sooo this is a little TMI but I figure we are going to get reasonably open about things ans I need your opinions! I went to the loo fine this morning then this afternoon and evening I have felt a bit constipated. When I tried to go all that was there when I wiped was blood and when I looked in the loo there was a bit in there too. I did get piles a while back from taking iron so I am presuming it is just that again? Any thoughts? Do I need to go to the doctors or just get on with it like I did before? Not seen a doc about it before.
Sorry I know tmi but advice or reassurance would be great!

KeeperOfTheZoo · 23/09/2014 11:47

I've had similar and also put it down to the iron as it does make things difficult to say the least! Maybe try some lactulose if you're struggling?

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 23/09/2014 12:14

I finally have my scan today , I don't think I have ever been this nervous before Sad
