Thought we'd better start a new thread, how many more will we get through before babies arrive??

OP posts:

George I've suffered with the same manky taste in my mouth since the beginning! I pray it goes as it ruins the taste of everything! Mine doesn't respond to teeth brushing or mints anymore either!

The doc gave me some cream the should help pain and shrink the buggers so fingers crossed!

CellyD · 16/09/2014 12:21

Fedup congratulations on the birth of you little boy.

ExcitedCJ · 16/09/2014 12:25

Bloody hell! I must be on waaaayyy too much insulin now! That was my second low since 2am! Sitting having a CTG & luckily I had a mini packet of pretzels in my bag or I'd be passing out & flopping all over the joint!
Can't wait to get rid of this GD, it is no nice at all!
Cute dogs! I have a golden retriever at home & when DD came back from hospital with us she was so jealous for about a week. Pooed in the house a couple of times & was a right mope! Poor dog! Hope now she is a bit older this time might be a bit easier for her.

PunkyBubba · 16/09/2014 12:25

George and Mum, my sister had the same awful taste throughout her pregnancy (and was sick through most of it too), but said the taste disappeared literally the moment she gave birth. I'm sure it will be the same for you!

Congratulations FedUp, it certainly seems like we've come a long way from that 'nutty' conception thread! So so thrilled for you that your little boy is safe in your arms.xx Thanks

GTT done this morning, so now just got to wait for the results at 9pm tonight apparently!

cabster · 16/09/2014 13:20

Mine coming by 4.30 tomorrow apparently punky. Nearly passed out between tests, it's not looking good is it...

mrsb87 · 16/09/2014 13:32

Cabster I almost passed out in between mine. But I think it was more due to the fact I hadn't eaten anything in such a long time and at 36wks (at the time) that's a long time! My results came back clear which was such a relief. Fingers crossed for you!

binkybunny · 16/09/2014 13:33

Didn't get to watch Elf yesterday so having a bit of Christmas cheer this afternoon. Spent all morning gluing, sticking and painting stuff for the nursery and waxing my rocking chair so looking forward to getting my feet up.

Sorry to hear about piles, sugar levels and horrible tastes, nearly there everyone! Grin

fedupofrainydays · 16/09/2014 13:54

Thanks everyone. Currently having a lovely cuddle Grin
We are calling him Rory.
Slight nightmare of being milked left right and centre by various people (not at all pleasent) as he's not latching properly - don't blame him. He's small and tired!
Hopefully he will get the hang of it all soon

Georgebythesea · 16/09/2014 14:02

Aw lovely name Rory :) Hope feeding gets easier soon.
What are other people getting for hospital/labour snacks/food as well as sweets? Our doula suggested dried fruit and nuts but that sounds so unapealling! I know it's not ment to be good to have too much fatty stuff as you can throw it up...

Congrats fedup, that was our name for a boy but we are having a girl...bet he is gorgeous and will get hang of feeding soon am sure.

ohthegoats · 16/09/2014 14:07

Ah fedup that sounds lovely and urgh all at the same time!

I don't quite get this breast feeding malarkey - NO ONE I know has been successful at it straight off, it's always a 'latch' issue and involves a load of undignified manhandling of breasts.

How did it ever happen in nature? Without 20 different midwives coming along and squeezing boobs there must have been loads of babies going hungry!

ohthegoats · 16/09/2014 14:09

Oof, I just had the biggest fanjo stab pain so far.. actually squawked aloud (in the office at work, nice).

binkybunny · 16/09/2014 14:18

fed up lovely name! Hope you/he gets the hang of BF!

FlipFantasia · 16/09/2014 14:35

Fedup lovely name! He'll get the hang of bfing soon...and in the meantime I bet he enjoys those mama cuddles!

Goats both of my babies bf easily. DS was slow off the mark (apparently common with cs babies as the fluid isn't squeezed from their tummies during the birth). I developed problems with him after birth (thrush which spread to my milk ducts and then infection = 3 months of agony and stress but awesome once overcome) but initially was fine.

Google the breast crawl - it's amazing to see what a newborn can do when it comes to finding the boob! Also lots of cool facts like the nipple area smelling like amniotic fluid right after birth so newborns can smell it. And the magic of colostrum. And how milk changes depending on the time of day/night (as well as the lovely hormonal buzz it gives). Nature is really rather clever about it!

I think a lot of the fussing is because of the hospital setting (eg the hospital may need to actively encourage bfing due to WHO bfing friendly status which can then result in women feeling 'meddled with' so the speak). Also just the sheer exhaustion after birth/noisy post natal ward

Also latch problems can be tongue tie issues, so any recurrent problems should be addressed (which may mean going private, based on friends' experiences).

PunkyBubba · 16/09/2014 14:35

Haha Goats, I have wondered the same thing re breast feeding. Have you ever seen the film 'the blue lagoon' with Brooke shields, where she has a baby on a desert island and it is screaming as she doesn't know what to feed it, so she cuddles it and it amazingly latches on and starts feeding happily, and her and baby's father smile in contentment.... Uh no, that does not happen!! I bet that scene was written by someone who had never tried BF.

Cabster, I was the same.. I felt sick, dizzy and sooo tired by the time they took the 2nd lot of bloods.. But was/am hoping as Mrs said it is down to lack of food more than anything! Will find out later I guess.

Rory is a lovely name.xxx

binkybunny · 16/09/2014 14:54

Oh God, how emotional can I be, I just cried at the bit in Elf when Santa's sleigh flies because of Christmas cheer Hmm

BadgerInBury · 16/09/2014 15:00

clops I've just bought a wrist splint so I'll let you know how I get on. I'm also doing absolutely nothing today in an effort to rest it. I think I might have been overdoing the decorating!

Captainmcgraw · 16/09/2014 15:19

I think historically/in certain other cultures today women would have seen a lot more breastfeeding close up from a young age and there would be a support network of family/friends etc. around to help you. Here/now it is all very medicalised/pressurised at first, and as Flip said, it's really not a calm, natural environment in a hospital to establish feeding in.

binkybunny · 16/09/2014 15:58

captain that's exactly what was said on the DVD we watched in our breast feeding class, for example in African tribes the children watch their mum's, aunts etc breastfeeding so pick it up from a young age. The class made it seem all so easy but I'm under no illusion!

Shirehobbit · 16/09/2014 16:02

Historically, there would have been a much higher infant mortality rate, too. And how much of that would be due to feeding issues/failure to thrive is unknown.
Also, communities would have had wet nurses too.

Lily31 · 16/09/2014 16:32

Wowee, so much going on!

Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy fedup.

Someone mentioned seeing the genitals clearly on a late scan. We have our 36 week scan soon and I want it to be a surprise. Will it be obvious?

Feeling for those with carpal tunnel, I occasionally get it if I sleep with my hands under my pillow. It's not pleasant...

I can't stop being sick after a main meal! It's terrible, just comes from nowhere... I'm a three main meals a day person and just can't get my head around the little and often thing. Mw said baby is lying head down with feet up near my tummy, probably giving my stomach a good toe punt. Argggh...

mrsb87 · 16/09/2014 16:41

lily I've had that, usually if I've eaten too much or too quickly! Little and often us the key.
I've had an awful pain round my kidneys and across my bump all afternoon. It's not really coming and going like I would imagine contractions to be like Sad
I had a growth scan last week and I could barely make anything out, just as difficult as the other scans which was annoying as I was hoping for a wee sneaky peak!

Kirstipops · 16/09/2014 16:41

Had my scan this avo and all is well, due to being 38 weeks baby is a squished wee lump in there so I couldn't have seen whether it was pink or blue if I wanted to, got a funny pic tho of a pouty frowning face! Baby measuring 50th centile, they didn't estimate a weight, said there's no point as they can be so inaccurate, but looks to be a nice healthy wee squish anyway Grin

Fedup I love the name Rory!
