Thought we'd better start a new thread, how many more will we get through before babies arrive??

Playlist; I'm feeling some Salt n'Pepa coming on... DP would have death metal if allowed! To be fair baby does seem to like a bit of Metallica, has a good wiggle at heavy guitars Smile

gunwalloe · 11/09/2014 17:17

slidein how many weeks are you? I hope everything turns out ok

BP was just under the level which would have got me sent to hospital again so I've come home and am having a lying down

gunwalloe · 11/09/2014 17:18

It has to be Push it if it's salt n pepa Smile

cabster · 11/09/2014 17:37

Free at last! And I'm so ready for maternity leave, had my fill of headaches and office politics and stressing about the commute.

lou I can only repeat what others have said - what a wanker, take care of yourself and we're all here if you need us. If you're feeling apprehensive about what the future holds and want some support locally, please consider giving Home-Start a call, they have volunteers who can come to you and offer practical support, whatever you need that to be.

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 11/09/2014 17:38

Sorry for all of you with nausea and niggles and horrible stress Sad. I really can't complain about much, touch of heartburn, few unanswered questions about my vbac, but so far so good.

I am in denial about the impending birth, too though, me23. I think dh will be a spectacularly unhelpful birthing partner, partly because he's very worried about what could go wrong (he'd far rather I had a repeat cs) and partly because as a senior staff member at the hospital I think he will struggle with inhibitions instead of motivating me to get on with it. He did jokingly suggest I take our neighbour instead - he's a behavioural therapist and a father of three - but taking someone else's husband into the delivery suite is a taboo too far, even for me, and would be talk of our small town for the next year Grin.

Re Juju Sundin, I think stamping and banging stress balls may well help me. I can imagine rhythmic music would help with both of those, a running playlist sounds ideal. Counting has always helped me to pedal up steep hills on my bike and I may even try counting in other languages to distract me further.

SlideIn · 11/09/2014 17:41

Gun Gotta be - though assume is a terrible delivery room clichè and would elicit eyerolls Wink
Surprised they sent you home with those symptoms - I was told to go straight in if I had the headaches or visual disturbances - was that your GP or MW?
Am 36+2. So baby would likely be fine if delivered now, so near to term. Just a bit on the wee side. I'm nervous and a bit mentally unprepared for labour - got quite emotional and frightened at the thought of an induction the other night in here. Thought I had a couple of weeks at least at home to screw my head around it.

MundayCakes85 · 11/09/2014 17:46

Sorry to those feeling poorly again.
Blimey I hadn't thought about playlists or visualisation. I'm hoping to spend as much time at home as possible as recommended by our MLU, then pop in for a quick water birth- anyone think I'm being a bit naive about it all? Grin
So today I've packed my hospital bag, attempted a bit of perineal massage (not v relaxing, or comfortable) and am
Drinking my first cup of raspberry leaf tea- bleurgh!

Think we ended up with my gym / running tunes - so the exact opposite!

Yep, that's also all on a playlist ready to go. It's the stuff that boyfriend HATES though, so wonder if he'll even manage to stay in the room if I opt for that. Lady Gaga, Party Rock etc. Haha.

YellowWellies · 11/09/2014 17:53

I found footstomping, hand banging, counting and crossing bridge visualisations (I used the Forth rd bridge in my head as I used to run it) worked well for me. And being shouty / mooing!

YellowWellies · 11/09/2014 17:54

I've got one playlist of motivational, upbeat, happy tunes which I think would suit me better than whale music!

Lily31 · 11/09/2014 18:01

Gun loving the push it suggestion.. might put it on the list, even if it is a cliché.

I keep forgetting to listen my natal hypnotherapy CD. I think it's cos I fall asleep after about 10 mins of it being on. Not sure it has any effect when I sleep?

I am now off for 6 weeks until the due date! I have been signed off by the Doc. What to do each day?? Perineum massage - not looking forward to that (not sure I can reach), cake eating and sorting a playlist perhaps.

gunwalloe · 11/09/2014 18:04

slidein it was the nurse at the drs as the bloods were ok yesterday im happy to chill out at home if they are back tomorrow I will take a drive down the hospital.

madamweasel · 11/09/2014 18:05

It sounds like a cliche but last time I was thinking about breathing deeply (thanks G&A) and just dealing with one contraction at a time. It's amazing how time becomes abstract when you're focused on the moment. If you haven't done labour before but have done endurance runs then I found it was a similar mental place to the second half of a long run, except much more exciting because you get a LO at the end.

SlideIn · 11/09/2014 18:12

Gun I don't blame you. I want to run home & hide right now. Doc has reviewed - if I were 38+ apparently he would deliver, but wants consultant's opinion, who is in theatre atm. So sitting artificially raising BP through anxiety now - gah!

ohthegoats · 11/09/2014 18:26

Erk, similar mental place to the second half of a long run sounds angry! I'm usually angry by that point.

I bought jelly babies for hospital bag today, but still don't have anything like nursing bras. My boobs haven't changed size - I had to get an underband expander thing, but since the bump has dropped a bit I don't need that bit either - so, no idea what size they'll be. Have a couple of crop top things from Sainsburys that I figure will do for the first day or so.. then I'll do some online shopping.

Also haven't got a buttoned nightshirt type thing, but might see if I can find one in Tesco or something. Have PJs and floppy vest tops and a couple of big wrap cardi things.

Keep not wanting to actually 'finish' preparations, because then it will be actually happened. Denial-central.

madamweasel · 11/09/2014 18:33

Whatever gets you through to the end goats

I'm sure some people float on a cloud of idyllic rapture through labour, personally I felt it took more stoic determination and bloody mindedness to just. keep. going.

Wink
gunwalloe · 11/09/2014 18:34

Oh god slide what a nightmare! Def don't let them do your BP after making you sit there and sweat. Are you with your other half?

STIGZ · 11/09/2014 18:39

Thinking of you slide Flowers

All i wanted to do in established labour was squeeze someones hand and shut my eyes,,, i remember being in surgery and the anethatist saying "stigz can you please open your eyes so i can speak to you" think i opened one and just shook my head to agree with what he was saying... I honestly couldnt speak and was in my own "zone" but i do remember telling my mum who was pushing me towards the lift in the hospital mid contraction to "get her f*king hands off me" Blush i was trying to "breath" them away but got a bit carried away and nearly passed out aswell... All this was at 9 cm dilated when i got to hospital so had nothing for pain at this point, then got epidural in for c/sec and the pain all gone in a matter of minutes ... Pure bliss Grin

gunwalloe · 11/09/2014 18:40

Lol just asked hubby what noises I made during labour he said I growled like a angry dog

mum2kiss · 11/09/2014 18:44

Gosh slide it all sounds a bit stressful!

My boss is cool with me finishing next Friday and has said if I need to work from home more then I can. I also offered to do a few hours from home to tie things up week after next too. I've done 2 days in the office so far this week and I could barely keep my eyes open when I was waiting for Dd to come out of school!

FlipFantasia · 11/09/2014 18:51

Thinking of you Slide.

binkybunny · 11/09/2014 18:51

Ha ha thanks all for confirming we can choose what ever we like for music, I have my running playlist already so will have a chill out Jack J style one too and can then choose between them. I can see my iPod probably staying in my bag though as I imagine it will be the last thing we want to listen to. For visualisation I'm thinking of climbing mountains, the smaller contractions are Grahams and Corbetts and as they get bigger move onto Munros. DH thinks I'm insane so still trying to get him on-board with that one as he knows how much I can complain when hill walking Grin

I also still need nursing bras, some isotonic drinks and savoury snacks, then the bags will be ready. Goats primark have super cheap button down nightshirts. I have one that buttons all the way and a few that button down far enough to get a boob out (yes I did try that out in the changing rooms!)

binkybunny · 11/09/2014 18:53

Gosh slide do you have someone with you? Hope all's ok Thanks.

ExcitedCJ · 11/09/2014 18:56

Slide, sorry I have been so wrapped up with my own stuff I missed that you were still in hospital, thought you had been allowed home.
Are you in for PE?

STIGZ · 11/09/2014 19:03

Quick question, Do i need muslim squares? Never used them last time, are they handy to have ?
