Pack your giant pants in your satchel and maternity pads in your pencil case, it's the antenatal thread for BESH graduates

Still in itu. Pain control and breathing not great. Been in since 7 but just home to let R have a proper feed and sleep. I can't sleep. Or eat. Splitting headache again. Feel like my heart is breaking.

SinkyMalinks · 04/09/2014 11:42

GHJ won't see R. Keeps saying he'd wanted to see to see him grow up. Past tense.

maamalady · 04/09/2014 11:56

Oh sinks, there are no words. I have everything possible crossed for you all.

eurochick · 04/09/2014 12:00

Oh sinks. You have both had the most terrible shock. When do you expect the histology results?

SinkyMalinks · 04/09/2014 13:22

5-7 days Euro. It looks like quite an unusual type (won't give details as would be identifiable). So diff to know what we're talking about. Good signs and bad signs for prognosis based on what we know now. Won't know more for a while.

Feel a bit better for some cereal and a drink. R's had lunch (apple, baby rice and milk mush). Trying to get another nap in then will head back.

sinks I'd guess he's in shock and facing his own mortality. It must be scary for both of you. I'm glad you feel a bit better after food, hope you get a decent kip.

katandkits · 04/09/2014 17:02

Oh sinks I am so sorry you must be out of your mind with worry. I wish there was something I could say that would help but since there isn't, I am here with the others holding your toe and my virtual esh candle is lit for you.

FrankelandFilly · 04/09/2014 17:26

Sinks I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this. I can't imagine what you're going through at the moment. As with all the others, I'm thinking of you all and am here for hand/toe holds.

cherrycoconut · 04/09/2014 21:13

Just popping in to send all my love, toe holds and good wishes to you Sinks. Fuck dude I'm so shocked to read this here on my occasional lurk, I understand totally the disorientating horror of what you're going through right now. Much hope and healing thoughts for a positive outcome. In the meantime try to rest where you can to stay strong xxx

Fankletastic · 04/09/2014 22:26

Sinks I don't know what to say. Such a shock. I just found the new Fred as on holiday and trying to distance self from t'interweb and failing on first full day

Am really sorry and saddened to hear about GHJ and I hope that there will be better news about him in the coming days.

Thinking of you all.

SinkyMalinks · 04/09/2014 23:04

Thanks all, esp you Cherry. Disorientating horror does capture the mood well.

Morning all. We are off to the vet this morning to see if Oldcat will (literally) have a stay of execution. She seems to be coping better, but is still very shaky and can't turn to the right, so we have no idea what the vet's advice will be. Poor old thing.

Thinking of you all this morning, sinks, hoping very much that histology is encouraging news and GHJ is feeling able to see R today. Try to keep eating/drinking when you can. It is unbelievably awful, so do whatever you need to to cope.

My birth plan was basically "will follow medical advice, would like HOTB present at all times", bugs, and that's how it went. I have no idea if anyone read it, though.

FrankelandFilly · 05/09/2014 08:58

Hope you managed some rest last night Sinks and that today is better for you all.

Fingers crossed for good news at the vet Draf

Enjoy your last day at work Bugs

Funeral went ok, at least as these things can. E was well behaved and hardly made a noise. Everyone was very impressed with her. HWHNN flies back in the early hours of tomorrow morning, so I've got him till about 7pm tonight.

maamalady · 05/09/2014 11:38

Glad it went alright, frank. Enjoy HWHNN while you can!

Vet agrees that Oldcat seems improved, hurrah! More antibiotics administered, so hopefully she'll get by okay. I think we will be even more aware of her health now, though, poor old crock that she is.

eurochick · 05/09/2014 12:37

frank I am glad the funeral was ok. It sounds like E was a little star. I hope you enjoy your time with HWHNN and that saying goodbye again isn't too hard.

sinks I hope you managed to get some rest and that you are both getting over the initial shock. I've been thinking of you.

draf I hope the kitty gets the stay.

bugs a birth plan was pretty irrelevant to me, but my advice would be to think through your preferences for all your non-ideal scenarios. So not just how you would like a spontaneous VB to go, but also induction and CS. And what would you want if the baby needs to be taken away to be checked over (GHJ to stay with you or the baby if e.g. you are in recovery after a difficult section). An awful lot of my August group ended up with sections or other interventions, more than I would have expected. And C was not the only baby to end up in special care (although most of the others were out after a day or two). I hope this is helpful rather than worrying!

I'm sitting here having a lovely lunch with some of the bits and pieces from the ESH hamper. The fresh stuff is long gone but the chutneys and so on are still going. :) Nom.

Glad you've done with work bugs. Deffo the right decision.

At visiting. GHJ won't see me. Am sat by bed as he lies facing away from me. R is grumpy as fuck and being walked somewhere by inlaws. This is grim.

FrankelandFilly · 05/09/2014 15:23

Oh Sinks I'm sorry, that's not good. Can his parents talk to him? I know he's upset/scared but he needs to not shut you out. Very unMN/BESH ((hugs)) for you

He can't bear hugs etc atm, because he feels sick/swollen/sore. He let me stroke his head by the end and said he was happy for me to stay. Progress I suppose.

I don't think he would speak to a chaplain bugs, and I can't think of anyone else the hosp might have. Mcmillan would be a total no go. But I might speak to them tomorrow. Or Monday. I guess they aren't in on the weekend.

He won't speak to his dad. Dad thinks he is speaking to his mum. He's worried we'll lose the house/never get another mortgage - the first of which is definitely ridiculous. If nothing else, we have crit illness cover to the tune of potentially over a million.

On my own tonight. Inlaws gone. My family taking over tomorrow. Then the first of my friends is flying in for a 3 day stint. Then we'll see where we are.

FrankelandFilly · 05/09/2014 18:59

Glad you are getting lots of support Sinks

HWHNN is leaving in the next hour Sad. Only 3 more weeks to go.
In good news though we have heard that he got the job he wanted so he can live at home and commute at last. He's getting 6 weeks off before it starts too.

cherrycoconut · 05/09/2014 20:08

So glad to read this Sinks, definitely progress. The infection and the drucks will make him very confused to start with, hopefully he'll be getting more rational now. Sounds like you have some great support. Toe holds and the sole of solidarity to you, you're doing amazingly.

Frankel that's awesome news... Three weeks, three weeks. You can so do this girl.

FrankelandFilly · 06/09/2014 12:13

How was your night Sinks, was R less grumpy? Hope your family arrive soon to help out.
